'The only thing darker than his heart is his suit...'
SCAR The Marones took from my family, and now it's time for payback. I. OWN. HER. And I will crush her if it's the last thing I do. Her fate is sealed—she'll endure the darkest torment as I defile and destroy her. I'll make sure she's the last of their tainted bloodline. But Allegra isn't as fragile as I expected. She defies me at every turn, threatening to flip the script and drive a stake through my heart. And if I’m not careful, she just might make me want to keep her...
ALLEGRA I was destined for Scar Gatti before I drew my first breath, my fate sealed by an oath written in blood. Now, I'm shackled to a man who sees our marriage as nothing but revenge against my family. He’s a monster lurking in the shadows. He wants to see me shattered, broken, ruined. He’s vowed to destroy me, to make me suffer, and to send me to an early grave… I’m determined to thaw his icy façade. But he’s a beautiful demon, and if I’m not careful, I might start to believe he has a human side.
Blood Oath is the first book in the Gatti Brothers Mafia Empire series. A steamy hot arranged marriage dark romance full of tension and off the charts chemistry. For all lovers of dark mafia romance, you can expect forced proximity, enemies to lovers, with touch her and die vibes. It's a full length novel with a HEA and sets the stage for book 2 in the series. Spice level 18+. Please check the trigger warnings.
DNF at 33%. I realized at 17% this was gonna be a bust, but I was in denial for another 15%. I've read weather reports darker than this book. He's "going to destroy and ruin her!" and then houses her up in an expensive mansion and leaves her alone to do whatever she wants. The h in all her bipolar brattiness, has got the insufferable shrew of a wife thing down pat. Both characters are annoying, cliche and one-dimensional and that dimension shifts in and out of focus all the time. Somewhere around 30% for no discernable reason, they are now WILDY attracted to each other and the "big bad Mafia don" who forced his enemies daughter to marry him in this "dark" romance confirms consent from her 3 times before they have gentle sex...what in the ever loving fuck? Why is it that all "dark "romances lately are either completely devoid of anything dark OR in the flip side, they are violent erotic gore fests with no romance, just lots of anger, hate and torture. Dark romance to me is about the romance being toxic and unhealthy by societal standards, but works for the couple. Anyways, tirade over, but this ain't it fam.

DNF This was so cheesy! The H is always saying how he’s going to make the h suffer and throw her I. The dungeon. He says he’s gonna treat her so bad. Then he sets her up in a luxury suite and serves he r5 course meals. Meanwhile she calls him an asshole, monster and a bastard repeatedly. Just when you nigh get some angst the author fools you again! This book is cartoonish.
SCAR Blood Oath is the first book in Iris Cannon’s Gatti Brothers Mafia Empire Series. This book was my introduction into Iris Cannon’s writing style, and I have to say, I can’t wait to read more from her in the very near future. If you are looking for a mafia romance featuring an arranged marriage trope with extremely strong enemies to lovers vibes, don’t hesitate to pick this novel up.
Because Scar and Allegra’s story is riddled with suspense and twists and turns, I’m going to keep this review as spoiler free as I possibly can while also giving you all a view on my thoughts. So let’s get started with this review!
Allegra’s life was never meant to be her own, all thanks to a blood oath her father and his now rival enacted thirty years ago. The first born Gatti Son would wed the first born Marone daughter, joining their family’s and becoming the most lethal mafia family around. She would rather die than marry a man who loathes her very existence… If Scar thinks this marriage is going to be easy, she’s about to give him the fight of his life.
Scar would rather die than marry the enemy. Until he comes up with a plan to exact his families revenge towards the Marones. An eye for an eye, or so they say. But what happens when the line between hate and love is crossed. What happens when Scar no longer sees Allegra as a threat and starts to see her as his equal…? What happens when Scar starts to allow himself to fall in love with the enemies daughter? This may be a risk he isn’t willing to take. That is where I will be ending this portion of my review!
My Thoughts:
As soon as I finished reading the blurb for Scar Blood Oath, I was intrigued, and I knew I needed to get my hands on a copy of this book. I can’t say I’m a HUGE fan of mafia romances due to the fact that I’m still fairly new to the sub-genre. But, this is the month where I try to pack in as many novels that involve danger, suspense, and dark vibes as I possibly can. With all that being said, It has to be said that Iris Cannon definitely had me invested and intrigued from the start to the very finish! I couldn’t put this one down!
Let’s dive into the characters, starting with Allegra. Allegra is a fighter. She’s as fierce as they come, but beneath the surface, she has a fear that is undeniable. She uses that fear to flame the anger burning within her. I loved the fierce vibes she brought to this novel.
And then we have Scar. I have to say, I wasn’t a huge fan of Scar during the beginning of this novel. This man screams Anti-Hero, with his alphamale tendencies and his overall dangerous vibes. But then, I saw a flash of something he kept hidden beneath the surface, and my hate started to morph into understanding. I can easily say, I’m a fan of Scar and his protective instincts. He may not always make the best decisions, but he has his reasoning for why he decided to do things a certain way. This man brought the dark vibes to this novel, and I couldn’t get enough!
I loved the constant push and pull vibes from Allegra and Scar. The endless feuding and the battle between the two had me turning the pages as fast as I possibly could. I loved the fact that Allegra dished out exactly what Scar was serving. He pushed, and she fought back. But their was always an underlying current of chemistry that ran between them. Let’s just say my heart was invested in their love language.
Now, for the reasoning behind my rating. I decided to drop a star on my rating due to the fact that I wanted a little more context and detail during some key point moments. Because I’m avoiding spoilers that’s all I can say about that moment. I’m going to add one more thing. Typically, I try to stay away from suspense type novels, and I think that is why I tend to steer clear of mafia romances. The fact that I have the ability to easily predict a storyline from the very start is the main reason. With that being said… Iris Cannon has done the impossible. She pulled that damn rug out from under my feet and had me falling flat on my back with her suspense. That is one of the top reasons why I’ll continue my journey into her novels! It’s hard for me to be surprised/shocked while reading suspense, and I was SHOCKED!
Overall, I loved the romance aspect between Scar and Allegra. I also really enjoyed the arranged marriage, enemies to lovers storyline!
I had to stop midway through. I was somewhat ok with the cheating in the beginning because it was an arranged marriage anyway and they both didn't want each other. How did his brothers all love her immediately? She brought them all together? How? Why? From what I could tell she barely talked to them but they all liked her because what, she was pretty? He all of a sudden wanted her and loved her when he saw her almost naked? That's what opened his eyes? The mmc is the don but is terrified of his mom still? He's a don. He could off her easily or banish her. He didn't seem very don in several parts of the book. So confused.
Yes there are trigger warnings for cheating. However, it wasn’t necessary to devote pages to the sex scenes for the cheating. That could have gone to black. Yes, eventually he decided it was okay to love his wife but frankly, those cheating scenes tainted him.
That’s my opinion. I recognize that everyone has their own opinions but this really caused me to take off a bunch of stars, hence my rating.
Iris has once again delivered with a no nonsense, mafia romance that you just can't help but deep dive into! Bursting with suspense, action, mystery and spice, including lots of twists and turns thrown in... I was kept guessing until the very end! 🙈
Giancarlo aka Scar has come to collect his bride, Allegra, that was betrothed to him before birth. He has no intentions of commitment, but is bound by duty to honour his late father's wishes and to avenge his death.
Allegra has lost everything, but gained a husband she never wanted. She must be strong if she wants to survive the new life that she's been handed .... but what happens when you play with fire and end up falling for the one person you vowed to hate?
Someone is out there to destroy Scar once and for all, reining danger for those close to him and Allegra. When his estranged mother also coincidentally appears into his life again after many years apart, some things just don't add up and Scar must exterminate the immediate threat, before they come eliminate him first.
Scar and Allegra seriously had me on edge half the time! Their initial meeting was anything but "cute", but the chemistry and passion between them was nothing short of was explosive. I honestly wasn't a fan of Scar and his initial treatment towards Allegra. She may have been young and somewhat naïve, but I loved how she challenged Scar (and his feelings)! Once Scar realised that he was slowly falling for Allegra, it was game over for him. Boy... did she end up bringing him to his knees 😂 Scar's overall protectiveness (and possessiveness) of Allegra was affirmation she was the one person he never thought he needed, becoming the light to his darkness.
It was also a joy to see some of the characters from The Sinners series. Makes I realise how much I've missed them! 💗
Thank you to Iris for gifting me with an eARC, in exchange for an honest review 🫶
🔥 Enemies-to-Lovers? Check. 🔥 Mafia Feud? Check. 🔥 Arranged Marriage with High-Stakes Passion? Triple Check.
In Scar: Blood Oath, Iris Cannon dives deep into the twisted, high-stakes world of mafia loyalty, blood oaths, and revenge. Allegra Marone and Scar Gatti are bound by an oath that’s older than they are, and it’s a setup that’s fraught with danger from the start. Allegra, destined to marry Scar as part of her family’s legacy, finds herself trapped with a man who sees her as nothing more than a pawn in his game of vengeance. Scar is ruthless, brutal, and bent on making her pay for her family’s past sins, but Allegra refuses to back down. 💥
Allegra’s strength and resilience give Scar a run for his money, and their intense clash creates a dark, steamy, and suspenseful story that’s impossible to put down. It’s an unfiltered look into the complexities of a romance built on hate and fate, with the twists and turns that only a dark mafia romance can deliver. With every battle and defiance, Allegra and Scar test each other’s limits—and just might uncover hidden desires that neither one is prepared for. ⚔️❤️

✨ A must-read for fans of: 🔹 Dark Mafia Romance 🔹 Enemies-to-Lovers Stories 🔹 Arranged Marriages with a Twist 🔹 Dark, Complex Characters 🔹 Emotional and Intense Storylines
SCAR: Blood Oath is the first story in the Gatti Brothers series. SCAR: Blood Oath is a breathtaking mafia romance book which I absolutely did NOT want to set down. The plot for SCAR: Blood Oath was quite captivating right at the beginning of the book and continued to be captivating throughout the book. SCAR: Blood Oath follows the narrative of Allegra and Scar. Allegra was destined for Scar Gatti before she even drew her first breath, her fate was sealed by an oath written in blood. Allegra is now shackled to a man who only sees their marriage as nothing more than revenge against her family. Allegra soon comes to realize that Scar wants to see her shattered, broken, and ruined. Scar sees Allegra’s family as being the ones who took his family away from him and is determined to make them pay. Allegra is one determined woman to show Scar that she’s nothing like her family as she tries to thaw out Scar’s icy façade. Scar is a man whose on the warpath for revenge for what happened to his family. SCAR: Blood Oath is definitely a dark mafia romance book that I would suggest to anyone who enjoys reading these kinds of mafia romance books. However, I would encourage readers to read over the trigger warnings to determine if this is a book one still wants to read. Author Iris T Cannon has written an amazing dark mafia romance story which captured my attention straightaway and held it captive all the way through the book. SCAR: Blood Oath is a definite suspenseful and page-turning book. I can’t wait to read more fascinating books by this author.

3.5☆ Storywise, it was a good read. While I did feel like the reasoning and catalyst for his actions was flimsy, I did like the premise. Once they got past the annoying " I want you though I should hate you so I'm going to do stupid stuff to cover my feelings " phase, I liked the relationship they developed. I wasn't expecting things to go where they did but it was a nice change in pace. I was especially interested in the newcomer friends that came to help and hope to get their stories (if they aren't already out, I need to check), as well as the brother's stories to see who they end up with and how it will happen and grow their close knit family. My downsides, were the flip flopping character of the mfc. It was a confusing situation but, she was more petty than putting up real fights, and when she thought she had been betrayed and decided to run away I RME so hard, because her self preservation and thinking skills were lacking at times, but then she didn't even attempt it. Not that I was mad, it just cemented she wasn't good at following through with things. Then her attempts at espionage, claiming to want revenge, and willing to die for it but saying she was worried for her safety. Her character was a bit all over the place at times. My main problem with the book is the editing. This being a ARC, I hope there's going to be another combover before the release, because there were quite a few repeating sentences and paragraphs. The word break constantly intermingled confused me because at first I couldn't tell if it was part of the book or a notation. Overall, I liked the story I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
This was my 4th book by this author and I have to say that it didn't disappoint.
I liked Scar and Allegra and all the brother. Granted how Scar and Allegra got together could have been better. I wasn't sure about reading this one after reading a lot of the reviews about cheating not that the cheating trope bothers me but after reading it I don't actually get what the issue was. Yes Scar is the one that decided that he was marrying Allegra because of this blood oath and revenge for his aunt but the women he was "cheating" on her with we pre-her arrangements and granted his does go for one 2 days after the wedding and the other one is at the martial home but he realised that what he was doing was wrong and stopped after that. I personally preferred him doing that than forcing himself on his 18 year old innocent wife. The fact that he waited to be with her granted he felt bad because of the dress thing but he did seem to try and make it a little special for her and made her feel good and not just himself like a lot of the guys in Mafia books do.
I was sad when the guys are in the convoy explosion but I had a feeling that wasn't the end to that story and I'm glad I was right. It thing for me that helped when Dante and Caleph turned up. It took me a minute but I was like how do I know them and then when Attila and the Jekyll make the appearance all was right with the world again.
I really liked this one and I already have Brando and Lucky's books line up to read next. I really hope at this point that Rafi get his own book too.
Gatti Brothers Book 1 A Dark Mafia Arranged Marriage Romance
I have read a lot of mafia romance and this one I have to say I really enjoyed Iris T. Cannon's writing. It captured my attention from beginning to end. The story is full of action and suspense, I simply devoured it. This is a twisted game of revenge that made me feel a roller-coaster of emotions.
I will say be prepared to absolutely LOATHE Scar at the beginning of the book he is the anti-hero morally gray to the max. This is not an insta-lust/love story. He is flawed and he makes big-time mistakes and does our FMC Allegra so wrong.
Allegra is the daughter of the rival family and sworn enemy. She is no meek mafia princess and though very young she's grown up in this world and is feisty, strong, and resilient for it. Boy does she bring Scar to his knees.
Scar and Allegra have excellent verbal sparring and undeniable chemistry once they finally get to see and know each other.
The side characters especially the other Gatti brothers are great and I'm looking forward to their stories in the series.
Tropes: Mafia Arranged Marriage Age-gap (18/29) Enemies-to-lovers Touch her and ☠️ Spice Dual POV Check TW
It's rare I give the first book in a series five stars and even rarer that I read a book in one sitting. This is the first book in the Gatti Brothers series. It's Scar and Allegra's story and my first by this author. I was late to the party and now I'll have to binge read to catch up. This is an arranged marriage/blood oath between the Gatti and Marone families. For a while I thought one was going to end up buried because they were both giving "I hate you and will make you pay" vibes. Then it changed. It made sense when it changed so no Instalove.
If the personal relationship between Scar and Allegra wasn't hot enough for you, the business end rocked it. There's action, blood, betrayal, twists, turns, everything including the kitchen sink. It keeps the reader guessing and the business ending was the chef's kiss. The personal end was good too. Glad Allegra had his brothers as a backup plan. I have read two previous books by this author, and I recently received Brando as an ARC so I knew I needed to read this book to set up the rest of the series. This book is a quick easy mafia read. It has a basic plot of a mafia man protecting the heroine due to some unforeseen circumstance mixed in with some insta love romance. If you want a quick but palate cleansing read, I usually pick up one of the authors books! I only gave this 3 stars because I just felt something was missing in the book- it was a lot more telling me stuff then showing. Also, I love an age gap book, but it gave me a little bit of an ick that she was only 18 years old, I wish she was maybe 20 to his 29. Also, I just wanted a little more from the FMC. Her thoughts are all tough in which she is going to stay strong against the MMC, Scar, but she quickly falls for him. Plus, the plot did not read and felt like it was all over the place. Overall, it was an okay ready, I just wanted more of a detailed plot and characters with a smooth transition of the story.
Scar! Oh! My! God! Someone tell me how many mafia book boyfriends I can have before it becomes a problem because Scar just walked in and claimed me completely.
Enemies to lovers always makes my heart race and this one had me clutching the pages. He is brutal and cold and uncaring until those rare and devastating moments of vulnerability break through. Allegra is a fighter to her core. She will never give up on what they could have had and she will stop at nothing to uncover the truth.
The mafia world here is dark and bloody and terrifying. You do not know if you should fear the rival families more or the haunting shadows of the Gatti legacy itself. Every twist feels like a shot to the heart and every secret drags you deeper into the storm.
I screamed I swooned I prayed to the mafia gods to let me survive this story. And even though I will be exhausted tomorrow I have no regrets.
Scar is wild emotional and unforgettable. Absolute five star read.
My first read by Iris, but it won't be my last. As this was an ARC, I am assuming the typo errors were rectified. I enjoyed this book, a little fast paced for my liking, hence the four stars, I usually read thicker books as they are more in depth. Allegra and Scar, promised by a blood oath by their fathers, bickering at first at being put in this predicament but in time they grow to love one another. Allegra is a sassy, young lady. At eighteen, she is eleven years younger than Scar, but boy does she hold her own! All of the characters were intriguing, I am pleased to see that there will be more books in this series regarding the brothers. The writing was good, the story kept me gripped with the twists and turns. All in all a worthwhile read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love a good mafia romance and this one checked all the boxes. Violence, arranged/forced marriage, revenge, murder, hot steamy tension, love and great characters.
Scar and Allegra’s story is a familiar one and omg I hated Scar at the beginning of this book. He is such a jerk but he redeems himself throughout and it turns into a love story for the ages. Allegra is so strong willed, sassy, smart mouthed and short tempered. She pushes back when no one else dares to and you can’t help but love her spunk.
Together they figure out how to navigate this new life they find themselves in and learn more about who they are as individuals and who they must become as a couple to survive in this ruthless underworld of crime and corruption.

Scar and Allegra's fathers used to be best friends and allies, until something happened to change that. When they were friends an arrangement was made for Scar and Allegra to marry. Scar has now come to collect. Neither of them want this marriage but Scar feels he has to honour his fathers' wishes. He doesn't change his lifestyle and makes no concession to Allegra and how she is supposed to fit in, he's really not very nice at all. She really struggles with being treated like chattel and is determined to change this. What starts out as hate slowly, very slowly, changes into something else. Family secrets are uncovered, old adversaries turn up with their own agendas.
I really enjoyed this story. Scar is one of 4 brothers who have recently had to bury their father. Scar feels it is up to him to carry out vengeance on what he thinks is his father's enemy. His way to do it is to marry an innocent "Allegra" the daughter. Scar plans to make her life miserable to punish her dad.
There is cheating from Scar going on in the early part of the marriage. It would be fair to say this is a difficult situation for Allegra, however she is not the weak link she has been taken for.
There is a few twists to this story but overall it is a very entertaining and worthwhile read for those who enjoy this genre.

I thoroughly enjoyed this dark, mafia romance! Scar and Allegra were so well done. The feelings they evoked!
I felt for Allegra big time! My only complaint is that Allegra sure took offense easily. It was certainly understandable what played out! Thank goodness she was easy to forgive Scar!
I was a bit upset with Scar. Even his younger brothers seemed to have more maturity! BUT, will he come around. Will love become a weakness he didn't want? Or, might love bring him a strength he so desperately needs?
I had fingers and toes crossed for an HEA for these two! The road was bumpy! The steam rising!
I'm ready to spend time with Scar's brothers. They deserve HEAs too!
This was my first book by this author. It is the story of Scar and Allegra. Allegra has been arranged to be married to Scar by her father. It is an oath that he had with Scar's father. It is a mafia romance which I'm a huge fan of.
In the beginning I didn't like Scar. He seemed very arrogant and I didn't like him cheating on Allegra. I wasn't sure he was going to be a good character. Allegra was young and she had a lot of learning to do. The more I read of their story the more I read the more enraptured I became. It has a lot of excitement and suspense. I look forward to reading more from this author. The brothers in the story were all very intriguing.

This wasn’t bad but wasn’t great, which sucks because I’ve liked Cannon’s other books. It started out ok (could’ve mentioned she was only 18 to show the age gap between Allegra and Scar) but when it got to them finally discovering they felt something/had an attraction for each other it said it had been obvious to everyone but honestly there were just a couple times when they were around each other with nothing noteworthy happening. There were a couple instances where they mentioned a slight attraction in their own POV but nothing crazy. It felt like every stereotypical mafia book detail was crammed into this and it just wasn’t for me.
Scar: Blood Oath is book 1 in the Gatti Brothers series and is Giancarlo "Scar" Gatti and Allegra Marone's story. It's an intense hate to love story that had me completely infuriated with Scar most of the book. As furious as I was with him I can't say enough about Allegra. She's very spirited and gave as good as she got. Scar never bargained on a sassy, smart mouthed, fierce woman when he went to "collect his debt". He also never bargained on falling in love either. This series is going to be exciting to see how each of the Gatti boys fall. Especially since none them think it'll ever happen to them. I can't wait for Brando's book.

Wow, revenge can last along time, it was best friends now enemies but it's the innocent in the crossfire that suffers. Scar is the Don of the Gatti family with his brothers, he has the perfect singles life playboy picking up women at his Night Club. Allegra is a good sweet lady, she gets angry that a deal between the two fathers drew up a contract that Allegra and Scar are to marry, so now their married she has her own bedroom even when they are married they sleep separately. Allegra is getting accused of stopping Scar and his friend he has been hooking up with for the last seven months
3.8 stars. This is a new author to me and the premise caught my attention. I'm a sucker for mafia, arranged marriages and such. The story started a litttle slow for me. I struggled initially but I kept reading and I'm glad I did.
Scar and Allegra are the couple in this book. Scar is the eldest in his family and is determined to make his enemies daughter, Allegra suffer for what her father did to his. Honestly, I enjoyed that Scar was a douche. Lol. Allegra has some sass to her and wasn't going to be some meek person for Scar. There's some give and take with the couple. There is some cheating at the beginning so be aware. Towards the end there is a twist that I didn't anticipate for, so that was nice. Overall, a good book.
Allegra, was force to marry her husband, Scar with their anger towards one another, Allegra stubborn, determined, sassy, passionate, and kind, loyal, and loves her husband brothers as well her husband. Scar loves his brothers, and does not understand his young beautiful bride. It has old ex girlfriend, warning ++++one or two small-- cheating sexy scene, before they accepted they are husband and wife., I enjoyed the drama. I really enjoyed this book. There murders, crime of betrayal, and so much more. A mafia romance story I recommend, and really enjoyed.
