Volume VII of Trinity Blood isn't a favorite, but I'm still enjoying this version better than what the anime did with this arc. Much less getting moony-eyed over one another and far more of the Empire's culture and class systems. In the anime I reached some points where it all went on so long that it started to sound like "blah blah blah." Still, even in the manga it's a ton of exposition.

Though thanks ever so for putting a busting out Asthe on the cover; I love when cashiers give me that kind of weird look.

I still miss Tres.

Remember when I said that Ion doesn't do stupid things and doesn't whine as much in the manga as in the anime? He decided to prove me wrong in volume VII. All it took was a few minutes of Radu talking about Esther and some creepy, violent molestation to get Ion to ignore what he's seen with his own eyes for months. Esther had just put herself between him and an ax recently too! Ion even takes Radu's accusations in new and more ridiculous directions. Radu passed him the ball, but Ion ran with it to the goal post, spiked it, and did a touchdown dance. Moron.

Now that Radu is being puppeteered by Dietrich, he also puts a creepy sexual element into his torture.

Ion feeling outraged and humiliated by the human shop people squeeing over his girly looks and cuteness made me smirk.

I'm glad Seth looks older in the manga, because her Mary Sue qualities went down even worse when she looked about eight years old in the anime. With her flippy-haired bob and all the kitty faces Kyujyo gave her, I half expected her to start brandishing an electric guitar like FLCL's Haruko does. I can't help wondering what I'd think of her if I didn't already know who she really is. I adore her white squirrel Abel.

There are a lot more chibi moments in this volume than usual. I wonder why. Though Seth's Naruto moment made me smirk. Believe it!

The empress is really deluded about the state of equality in her land. Then again, she sees humans and Methuselah as her possession. Radu's talk to Ion shows how her refusal to let her subjects see her is coming to bite her in the ass.

I don't get what's up with the pillar of salt thing. How does that happen?

I can't help wondering if all those intricate Empire outfits drove Kyujyo and her inker nuts.

The Afterwords continue to be really amusing, as this time the spotlight goes on Kyujyo's luckless friend Akira, who's represented by Radu in the pictures. In these cartoons we get to see why Radu is perfect for him as he cracks two teeth, gets assaulted by an afghan hound, and explains why Radu probably betrayed Ion from being in debt. "Super high interest! Super fraud!" We also meet S-ko, who only loves the actual Radu when he's being tormented. Sounds like a certain kind of fangirl. *g*

This next volume of Trinity Blood continues the story of conspiracy within the Methuselah (vampire) Empire. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of new material in this volume for those who have seen the anime, but the pacing and story-telling in manga form is superior (as well as the introduction of one favorite character - her character design is much better in manga form than anime, thank goodness!). Perhaps I am just biased, since I do seem to prefer manga to anime in most cases, but in this instance, there is so much more depth to the characters, better dialogue, and better pacing.

While Trinity Blood isn't great, it's a lot of fun, and I really enjoy it. The art is highly stylized, so that might be detracting to some as well as the some times superfluous nods to fanservice as the cover art of this current volume so perfectly illustrates - note, Asthe is a really cool character that is in no way done justice with her poor depiction on this cover.

Next volume should prove interesting, and hopefully, we'll get new material again. As much as I love the flawed anime, it's all about the manga. :)

review Having learned my lesson from writing short little reviews for the Vampire Hunter D manga, I'm just straight up going to say that the art for this is gorgeous. My only complaint is that it's sometimes a little too heavy on the fanservice, but it's otherwise really well put-together. I love the characters and the plot – which builds itself as the volumes progress, revealing the world to us gradually and making it seem very, very real. Overall, this is one of my favourite mangas and I'm really disappointed that the English release hasn't been continued.

I really liked this volume! A lot of drama and some fun stuff! The scene between Radu and Ion was kind of hot...not gonna lie XD Haha! But, I really love Ion a lot! I hope he and Esther can work things out!

On to the next!

Asta is amazing I just adore her, out of all the characters I'm most like Asta, especially her temper. I'd love to cosplay ASta one day.
