Glad to note that somebody has taken the trouble to ascertain the truth about Rani Padmini who sits on our psyche as a national heroine. In fact, a fascinating chapter of history has been expertly and painstakingly dug out of the womb of uncertainty. After sifting literary, epigraphic and numismatic evidence available with some archival institutions and at places connected with the celebrated queen, Karkra has been able to establish that the brave, virtuous, wise and superlatively beautiful Padmini, did, indeed, live in flesh and blood amongst us. This is a heart-warming revelation. No wonder that Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s award winning mega movie is deeply inspired by this work.

An intriguing read for people interested in history and the entire Padmaavati narrative. With a more analytical style that tries to verify the credibility of the entire episode, the book makes us truly appreciate the genius of Amir Khusrao and is somewhat successful in putting an end to many debates about the chronology and in fact the existence of a certain beauty called Padmaavati, who is almost lost in the annals of history.
