What May Remain
Tully can’t remember how many times she’s died.
People rejoiced at first when scientists discovered the cure for death—but it didn’t take Tully long to realize that immortality in a world shattered by nuclear apocalypse is not a gift, but a punishment beyond compare.
Now a bitter, deathless exile, she has been content to run errands for the people who enslaved her. Then one day she is given a second chance - word of a woman who might just save her, if only she can make the journey.
In another time, Alexandria is the most famous woman in the world… right before everything starts going to hell. Fleeing the public eye, she finds herself seeking the meaning of love and beauty at a prestigious art academy, with the help of a secretive young man who lives in a beautiful mansion.
But this means living with her sister, Dylan, who she has never loved well enough. Dylan is a brilliant and fevered scientist with secrets of her own—secrets that might contain the collapse of the world as they know it.

I still don’t have fully coherent thoughts and also I don’t want to spoil anything. This is a book that you simply have to experience. Plot takes almost a back seat and you should just immerse yourself. Honestly, this is one of the things I like about my Jan 1 reading tradition. It makes me just sit and read most of the book in one go. There’s no time to gain distance from the story.
It’s about sacrifice. It’s about grief and remorse and hope. It asks, “What does it mean to love a monster?” and “What does it mean to be monstrous?” It’s about sisterhood and brotherhood. It’s about radical love.
Also I texted Krista and was like “I’m twelve pages in and I would die for Gunboy” and her response was, “He’s so HOT (never actually describe him physically)” and I was like “I fully believe this and knew it instinctively”. So anyone who reads this book, you should know that Gunboy is gorgeous.

Not many books make you say “wow, I wish I’d written this”, but this one did. Although actually, I’m quite glad I didn’t because then I got the pleasure of reading it and guessing to the end. It split my heart right open.
