She hears footsteps approaching, the creak of the uneven planks, then the clunk of a heavy lock. Her body is numb and she’s shivering in her pale silk gown, but she stands, ready to fight as the doorway cracks open. A blinding light overpowers her, and she falls backward. Her world goes black once again…
When Detective Katie Scott is approached by a smartly dressed woman with desperation in her eyes, Katie’s senses go into high alert. Moments later, questions still buzzing through her mind, Katie finds the woman dead in the carpark, blood pooling around her, and just enough life left to utter the find my daughter.
Katie doesn’t waste a second gathering her team and pulling the casefile for Anna Braxton, a teen with sparkling blue-eyes and an even brighter future, who left to meet her best friend in the mall, then disappeared. Staring at the blank investigation board, Katie won’t rest until she fulfils Anna’s mother’s dying wish.
Scouring the Braxton’s impeccable family home, Katie finds Anna’s journal, filled with teenage secrets and confessions. But it’s the one-off mention of an approach from a talent agency that catches Katie’s expert eye. She gets to work tracking the business down, but it’s a dead end. And now Anna’s best friend is also missing.
The case takes another terrifying turn just hours a girl’s body is found in the embers of a housefire, her yellow satin dress devastatingly beautiful amongst the ashes. Is it Anna, her best friend, or another girl entirely?
One thing is a monster has the closeknit community of Pine Valley in a chokehold, and Katie must get one step ahead before any more precious lives are taken—but at what cost?

At the end of one of the sessions, a woman approaches her who seems distraught. The woman wants Katie to find her daughter who's been missing a few days. Katie wants to help the woman and tells her so. As Katie goes to the parking garage a bit later to go to lunch, she hears a noise. It's the mother who wanted Katie's help. She's been stabbed and is barely alive. Katie uses her jacket to try to stop the bleeding. The last words the woman says to Katie is find my daughter. She's dead. Why would someone kill the mother of a missing girl?

Katie finds mention of a talent agency that recruits at the mall. Katie thinks this is the key to finding Anna, but she can't find any information on the agency. Was it fake just to lure teenage girls to them? Katie gets a call about a house fire and a young girl's body has been found there. Anna's best friend is now missing, too so she's wondering if it could be Anna or Jasmine? There's a killer on the loose and he seems to have targeted young girls. "Find My Daughter" is yet another thrilling and heart-pounding addition to the Detective Katie Scott series by Jennifer Chase. This is the thirteenth book, and the series continues to get better each new release. Find My Daughter certainly lives up to the high expectations set by the previous books.
Detective Katie Scott attempts to come to terms with the recent changes in her personal life. This means throwing herself into her work. At the beginning of this installment, she's a guest speaker at a conference. While at the conference she unwittingly got pulled into a case involving a missing teenager and a brutal murder.
The person or persons behind the chilling events intends to destroy Katie's perfect solve record. However, they never counted on her tenacity and strong will in finding justice for the victims. So despite having to dealing with the memories from a recent heartbreaking situation coupled with PTSD from her time in the military, Katie is determined to find the answers before it's too late.
I love the fact that figuring out the villain's identity did not come easy. It had me guessing the whole time. The villain clearly had issues, but despite this they portrayed a brilliant and skilled mind. Someone who has the skill to change their features at the drop of a hat. This made it difficult to find the perpetrator.
From the very first page, Find My Daughter captivated me and was impossible to put down. I became completely invested in learning the truth. For those looking for a thrilling and exciting police procedural, Find My Daughter is must-read. If you are new to the world of Detective Katie Scott, I suggest starting with first book and working your way through the series. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
Firstly, as always, I am extremely grateful to be given the chance to be part of the Books On Tour review team, more so because i am absolutely OBSESSED with this amazing series by the equally amazing Jennifer Chase.
Find My Daughter is book #13 in the Detective Katie Scott series and whilst you may expect series to start dropping off over time, with each new book, they are just as explosive, tension filled, fast paced and all encompassing as the first in the series. They just keep getting better and better.
Detective Katie Scott, starting to put her life back together after her relationship ended, is a speaker at a conference when a woman approaches her, distraught, begging for her to find her daughter Anna, who has been missing for a few days. On leaving the conference for lunch, Katie hears a commotion and finds the woman in the car park stabbed and in a pool of blood. Barely alive, her last words, "Katie, find my daughter."
The formidable duo of Katie and her partner Gav are determined to not only find Anna but also her mothers killer, when they receive the news that a girls body has been found and shortly after another girl goes missing, Anna's best friend.
Anna's last known whereabouts was at the mall, where Katie hears of a talent agency recruiting models. But, on investigating, nothing on this agency can be found anywhere. Is it a real agency or one set up to entice teenage girls?
This is one hell of a twisted killer, a chameleon who is able to change their identity with such ease it even unnerves Katie. How can they find a killer when no one knows what they look like?
From the very first opening paragraph, I was fully immersed. To say it was unputdownable would be an understatement. Completely compelling with a whole rollercoaster ride of twists and turns, it had me turning the pages at lightning speed, desperate to find out the who's, why's, and whodunnit's.
I don't want to go into too much detail as it will definitely ruin it for others, but this is a MUST READ, and if you haven't yet started this series... why the hell not? Download, get comfy, and strap yourself in for one super twisty ride!
The biggest thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
With two teenage girls missing, Katie and McGaven are on the case. Then the on of the girls mothers is murdered and the girl found dead shortly after. With a killer who seems to change repeatedly and clues that make no sense, can they find the killer.
Wow wow wow. This was so good. It was exciting, fast paced, and impossible to put down. There were no hints to the killers true identity until right at the end. I found myself doubting some of the good men in Katie’s life. I enjoyed detective Daniel’s return and I’m rooting for a new romance! The partnership between the two main character is amazing. They are written so well and you can see how they care deeply about one another. My only gripe was that Cisco didn’t feature as frequently, but I was pleased to see feature heavily at the end. I just love that dog and the thought of him being in danger was scary.
Another great crime thriller from Jennifer Chase. Detective Katie Scott is at a conference when a woman begs her to find her daughter. When Katie goes out to find the woman she finds her in a pool of blood in the car park. Katie and her partner Gav are determined to find the missing teenager but soon receive bad news. They start the investigation to find the killer, and soon have another missing teenage girl to find. This is a gripping crime thriller, with a twisted killer who makes it difficult to track them down. The last part of this book is a real nail biter, and it was great to see Cisco getting involved too. Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
✅ Another gripping installment in the Detective Katie Scott series. I have read every book in this series. Each time I get totally engrossed in the storyline. A missing teen has Katie scrambling to find answers as to what happened. Then, another teen goes missing. Is there a connection? Katie, Gav and her team track down a few leads that seem promising. But, they seem to just hit dead ends each time. Cisco, Katies dog, is always a nice addition to this fast paced story. As with other series that go on and on….I feel that there is a point where the series just has to end. I am starting to get this feeling with the Detective Katie Scott series. Overall, a fast-paced, thriller suspense is always delivered by author Jennifer Chase. Definitely a series I recommend to family and friends. I do recommend reading the series in order. There is so much back story to know about the characters.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Oh my lord, Jennifer Chase delivers another nail biting addition in their Detective Katie Scott series that kept me on the edge of my seat. With an intriguing mystery, a diabolical killer ont he loose and more, this author delivers a tour de force with Find My Daughter. The story flows seamlessly as the reader is drawn into the story and gets invested in Katie trying to solve this case. With a few twists I so didn't see coming, Find My Daughter delivers a powerhouse of a story and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat till the very last page is read.
Meet Detective Katie Scott. A military vet, she and her trusty dog, Cisco, are a unbeatable team. Add in her success at solving past cold cases, Katie and her partner, Sean McGaven are the duo to watch out for. She's tough, vulnerable and determined, perfect for dealing with cold cases where the trail goes cold the longer time goes by with no answers. I really love Katie's voice in this series. The author doesn't shy away from Katie's PTSD and how Cisco was her K-9 military dog she was able to bring home with her after she left the military. With intriguing secondary characters as well, the reader finds a cast of characters so unique and well written, complex and fairly jump off the pages of the books in the series. Find My Daughter is more than a crime story/thriller, but one that also has humourous parts, relationships that weave through the pages with other characters and I can honestly attest I eagerly await book 14 coming in August, The whispering Girls. This series keeps me glued to the pages and I love revisiting the books in the series. This is an author who knows her characters inside and out and gives the readers some amazing characters to root for. I can't recommend this series as a whole enough to other readers. If police procedurals and crime fiction are your jam, then I highly recommend Jennifer Chase's Katie Scott series. I do caution that it's best to read this book from the beginning (Book 1 is Little Girls Sleeping) as the characters continue to grow with each book and in Find My Daughter, there are mentions of past books.

352 PAGES OF GENUINE EXCITEMENT—IT’S JENNIFER CHASE’S BEST YET
Teenager Anna Braxton is missing. The young girl who planned on doing something important with her life woke up one morning, had breakfast, and then disappeared into thin air … or so it seems. Her mother is worried. Although she reported the disappearance to a police precinct— Detective Katie Scott’s precinct—it’s been weeks and weeks of silence without any feedback about where Anna might be … or if she’s even alive. In desperation, Mrs. Braxton tracks Katie down to a seminar where the detective is serving as guest lecturer. At first Katie is reluctant to believe Mrs. Braxton’s story, but after making inquiries, she’s surprised to learn it’s true. She can’t imagine why the missing person’s case has been neglected and makes the decision to take over the investigation and get some answers. But before Katie can begin, the unthinkable happens. First, Mrs. Braxton is murdered, and next, her daughter Anna is found dead in an abandoned property that someone set on fire. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, another teenage girl was just reported as “missing”.
Hello and welcome to an episode of Finding Out What’s Been Dumped in Katie Scott’s lap! All I can say is that it's no wonder Katie’s confused! Luckily, author Jennifer Chase isn’t and delivers on 352 pages of genuine excitement in her taut thriller FIND MY DAUGHTER. Since I’m a long-time fan of Ms. Chase’s work, I can say with certainty that FIND MY DAUGHTER is her best outing yet! Intelligently written, it seems this author is committed to besting herself with each new title. And in this outing, a solid plotline keeps us glued to the pages as twists and turns are thrown at Katie—and at us, too!
Ms. Chase handles all with a keen eye for murder. Keeping up with the fast pace, there is not one false note in the entire journey that will end with Katie shouting, “You’re under arrest!” And did I mention the whole gang is here? Well, I will now. Of course, for me ‘the whole gang,’ means Cisco, Katie’s valiant German shepherd who would do anything to protect her. I have very few demands, but having Cisco in play is one of them … but not the only one because there are a couple of extras in this tale … extras that emit a little heat … hint hint … like the kind heat that you get when you forget something is still on the stove … hint hint … with the burner turned all the way up to smokin’ hot … hint hint … and with emotions burning out of control. Yeah, now you’re getting it. That kind of fire. But I’m rooting for Chad to come back into you know who’s life so let’s leave it as ‘to be continued’.
So if you’re looking for a great mystery that will carry you late into the night, and way past your bedtime, I recommend FIND MY DAUGHTER by author Jennifer Chase. It’s a smartly-written, cleverly designed, and easy to fall in love with thriller-diller. The characters all resonate with me. Especially one intrepid furry hero with four legs and a tail. And, of course, there’s Detective Katie Scott, one amazingly endearing young woman, who is also a hero. Love both and can’t wait for more. Five stars and ten woofs for this one, please!
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
Find My Daughter by Jennifer Chase, Book 13 in the Detective Katie Scott series.
A chilling, high-stakes procedural that blends emotional depth with relentless suspense—Jennifer Chase proves once again that Katie Scott is a force to be reckoned with.
In Find My Daughter, Jennifer Chase delivers a taut, emotionally charged thriller that plunges readers into the heart of a small-town nightmare. With a dying woman’s final plea—“Find my daughter”—Detective Katie Scott is thrust into a case that spirals from a missing person investigation into a deadly game of cat and mouse with a cunning, chameleon-like killer.
A mother’s last words. A girl gone missing. A killer hiding in plain sight.
When a woman collapses in a parking lot, bleeding and barely alive, Katie Scott is the last person she sees. Her final words—find my daughter—ignite a desperate search for Anna Braxton, a bright, blue-eyed teen who vanished after a trip to the mall. But as Katie digs into Anna’s life, she uncovers a trail of secrets: a suspicious modeling agency, a cryptic journal, and a best friend who also disappears.
Then a girl’s body is found in the ashes of a house fire, dressed in a yellow satin gown. Is it Anna? Her friend? Or someone else entirely? As the case widens, Katie realizes she’s chasing a killer who thrives on manipulation, disguise, and destruction—and who may be watching her every move.
The villain in this installment is one of Chase’s most chilling creations yet: a master of disguise, capable of slipping through the cracks of identity and surveillance. The psychological tension is razor-sharp, and the killer’s unpredictability keeps the reader—and Katie—on edge.
Katie remains one of the most compelling protagonists in contemporary crime fiction. A former military K9 handler still grappling with PTSD, she brings both grit and vulnerability to every case. Her bond with her dog Cisco adds emotional texture, and her moral compass never wavers—even when the cost is personal.
Despite being the 13th book in the series, Find My Daughter feels fresh. The pacing is brisk, the stakes are high, and the emotional beats hit hard. Chase balances forensic detail with character-driven storytelling, making this more than just a puzzle—it’s a story about grief, guilt, and the lengths we go to for justice.
- Some secondary characters (like Anna’s parents) could have been more fleshed out emotionally.
- The killer’s backstory, while chilling, might have benefited from deeper psychological exploration.
Find My Daughter is a pulse-pounding thriller that doesn’t just deliver on suspense—it delivers on heart. Jennifer Chase continues to evolve her series with emotional intelligence and narrative precision. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this installment is a reminder of why Katie Scott remains one of the most compelling detectives in the genre.
Find My Daughter by Jennifer Chase Detective Katie Scott #13
A dying woman’s last words, “Find my daughter!” begins a dark gritty tale of a serial killer on the loose in Pine Valley. Riveting read ~ Couldn’t put it down.
What I liked: * Katie: ex-military K-9 trainer & handler, cold case police detective, good friend, leader, puzzle solver, works for her uncle the sheriff, loves her K-9 partner, suffers from PTSD, strong, dedicated, dealing with personal issues that I hope resolve soon * Cisco: Katie’s black German Shepherd K-9 partner who has been with her to war and was discharged into her arms. He’s there for her no matter what, companion to Katie, skilled at his job, loving and protective, helps ground Katie – loved by all * Sean: Katie’s work partner, supportive, good sense of humor, able to read Katie, in a committed relationship, loves Cisco, dedicated, protective, a good man * John: forensic supervisor, ex-SEAL, intelligent, strong, protective, and I still wonder if he and Katie might end up together * Evan: detective, Katie’s K9 training officer in the army, located in Sacramento, attracted to Katie but timing has never been right * Luke: arson investigator, K-9 handler of Blitz a bomb sniffer, an enigma that could play a big part as the series progresses * Catching up with a variety of supporting characters * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * The police procedural aspects and how the twists & turns were dealt with * That the case was wrapped up without loose ends with the killer exposed and captured – hope he never escapes!
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * That Katie is deaing with moving on after she and her fiancé Chad broke up * Thinking about how easily some people can con vulnerable people and the harm they do * The way Katie tends to act without thinking and sometimes gets into trouble
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Find My Daughter by Jennifer Chase is the 13th book in the superb Detective Katie Scott series and I have loved all these books from the very first one called Little Girls Sleeping back in 2019. All of these books have been a 5 star read. and this one was no different. Jennifer is an excellent author and has a way of writing that will have you gripped from the very first few pages till the last page. I always look forward reading all her books, Once I start reading her books everything I had planned for that day goes out of the window. I snuggle in my comfy reading chair, phone/social media is turned off and my kindle comes alive.
Detective Katie Scott is at a conference is approached by a smartly dressed woman with desperation in her eyes, Katie’s senses go into high alert. Moments later, questions still buzzing through her mind, Katie finds the woman dead in the carpark, blood pooling around her, and just enough life left to utter the find my daughter. Katie doesn’t waste a second gathering her team and then pulls the case file for Anna Braxton, a teen with sparkling blue-eyes and an even brighter future, who left to meet her best friend in the mall, then disappeared. Staring at the blank investigation board, Katie won’t rest until she fulfils Anna’s mother’s dying wish.

Speed reading through this book had me breaking out in a cold sweat as a I breathlessly awaited the conclusion never dreaming of the conclusion, which knocked my socks off.
A young girl has been missing, and her mother is desperate to find her. Her final dying words to Katie are to "find the million dollar man". If you have read any of this series, you know that there has never been a challenge that Katie will not accept. Now another girl is missing which just speeds up the timeline for solving this mystery.
This brutal killer is a chameleon who could be anyone and be anywhere, which makes it even creepier - a killer who hides in plain sight. The darkness of this individual's mind gave me goosebumps. I could feel the tension oozing out of the pages as Katie and Gav raced to outwit this vicious, yet highly intelligent killer. It was a chess game of sorts. The only saving grace for the victims is that the killer did not count on the ferocious tenacity with which Katie attacks solving crimes and fighting for victims. It was just a question of when would the hunter become the prey.
The characters in this series are electric and easy to like. Cisco, Katie's retired MWD, is one of my favorites. Everyone loves a good dog, but a working dog (or should I say hero) takes the cake. Jennifer Chase knows how to reel you in and keep you wanting for more. I accused everyone at some point as I tried to solve this mystery.
If you can handle the pressure and goosebumps, you will not want to miss this one.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’ve been following this series since the 6th book, and one of the main reasons I keep returning is the lovable characters and the fresh, unique cases that Katie and her partner tackle in each book. The author also kindly includes some background information for new readers, which is incredibly helpful for readers like me to recall key details as well.
Find My Daughter is the 13th book in Detective Katie Scott series. In this story, Katie and her partner, Det. McGaven are faced with a challenging missing person case involving a dangerous killer known as "The Million Dollar Man." The culprit with his ability to change appearances makes it harder to profile the perpetrator.
I really enjoy following Katie s she navigated this intense investigation, especially with assistance from Detective Daniels, a character who made a memorable appearance in earlier books. The final chapters were quite intense, as the case became deeply personal for Katie, raising the stakes to new heights!!
Overall, it was wonderful to return to this series—it continues to be both entertaining and enjoyable. Katie undoubtedly needs time to heal, both physically and emotionally, after the toll of her many cases and a significant change in her personal life. Hopefully, this will pave the way for new beginnings in the future and I look forward to see her back in action soon!
I received an advanced review copy through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!
⚠️ 𝐓𝐖: death, murder, confinement, brief mention of body horror
Find My Daughter by Jennifer Chase is book 13 in the Detective Katie Scott book series by the author. You can absolutely read this book as a standalone in the series, as I did. The book centers around our MC named Katie, who is a Detective at the Pine Valley Sheriff's department. Katie and her partner McGaven have a 100% cold case solving rate and they are a bit famous for this statistic. Katie is talking at a conference about her ability to solve cases when a mother who has lost her daughter stumbles in and asks for Katie's help to bring her daughter, Anna, home. Katie of course accepts this case and therein starts a whirlwind of events about the case involving Anna and other girls. Katie and McGaven do a great job in this book in nailing down the person who was doing the crime with the girls. There are several love interests for Katie in this book, two men that we hear about a lot. One is Detective Evan Daniels who is a nearby detective that Katie has worked with in the past and there is definite spark between these two. The other is Inspector Luke Ames who is new to Pine Valley and a fire inspector for the town. There is a love/hate relationship between these two and I can tell there may be a spark there as well. The story is engaging and well written by the author and you can not help but wonder who is taking the girls and why. Also that ending is so action packed and then wraps everything up in a nice bow for the next book involving Detective Katie! I can not wait to see where the characters head next and what happens with Katie's love life eventually!
Welcome home. That is how it feels when I get my hands on the next book in a great series with a cast of characters you love, and this installment is no different as we are emersed in the characters' lives that are changing, evolving. Pulled in from the beginning and the closer they come to finding where the killer may be hiding, the more gripping and edge of your seat reading it becomes.
In Find My Daughter, there is action from the very start when Katie is presenting at a conference and approached by a woman asking her to find her daughter who has gone missing, but shortly after speaking the woman is killed in the car park. As they chase down the killer, trying to come up with a profile of a man referred to as the Million Dollar Man, who has many disguises and MO’s, both Katie and Gav find themselves in danger, and Katie will go against orders, risk everything, including her career to catch this killer before it’s too late for someone very near and dear.
This book we have a newcomer to the team, a new fire investigator who Katie and Gav meet when they head to the scene of a house fire where their missing teenager has been found. It might take a little longer for them to warm up to him. Detective Daniels is also back on the scene, teaming up with Katie and Gav on this latest case as it crosses jurisdictions.
Pulse pounding. Tension filled. A brutal murder. A missing teen. And Detective Katie Scott just might lose her perfect solve record for cold cases. However, one thing is clear about Katie, and that is her unrelenting tenacity. Working alongside her partner, Detective Sean McGaven, she is determined to find answers.
Not only does the evidence resulting from these crimes need to be examined, there is also a rash of fires. No doubt they are due to arson considering the carnage being left behind. All while Katie is looking for answers, she can’t help but think of her recent breakup. More importantly, her ongoing battle with PTSD rises at the most inopportune times. But, Katie is relentless, and it soon becomes a race against time as she digs deeps while trying to find answers.
I’ve read the previous 12 books in the series and highly recommend doing the same, especially if you value continuity and the intricate backstories of Katie, Gav, and their team. This latest book was an exhilarating read from start to finish, and is certain to keep the most attentive reader guessing until the very end.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
This series can be compared to a jewelry box filled, up till now, with 13 precious gem stones!
The stories are filled with suspense and vicious killers on the one hand, but on the other hand a good series needs good characters as well. And who does not love the dynamic duo Katie and Gav?
Having a good partner is very important for two detectives, but they would be nowhere without the rest of the team and police officers behind them to do research, forensics, door to doors, etc. If they all work together like a well oiled machine, a baddie does not stand any chance at all.
What this series makes this series even more appealing to me is the fact Katie has a dog, who was trained with her in the military and who helps her anywhere he can. I love for him to play an important part in the books, but I also always hopes he stays safe. I could not stand it for him to get hurt or even worse...
So yes, Katie and Gav face a very intelligent killer, but he should know he could never escape them.
I am looking forward to the next book, because of the way this one ended. 5 stars of course. Who would have doubted this? :)
Another propulsive and gripping addition to the Detective Katie Scott series! I’ve been a long time fan, and this one was no exception!
The team dynamics in this series are exceptional, I truly love the partnerships, the trust, and the family they’ve built over each book. Cisco, Katie’s German Shepard, is probably one of my top favorite parts about these books, he’s such a fun and unique addition to each case and storyline. I’m hoping in the next book, Katie can find some peace and move forward more in her personal life.
This book gripped me right from the get go, and man, that last 20% was wild! Chase knows how to write a really intense finale showdown, and she never ceases to surprise me! My ONLY complaint is how repetitive the backstory has started to get in explaining each character and situation. I’m sure it’s great for those that are jumping into the series now instead of from the beginning, but as a long time fan I have had to start skimming some of those parts to move along the current timeline and plot.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!
A woman’s plea to find her missing teenage daughter will open a complicated and all-consuming case for Detective Katie Scott and her partner Detective Sean McGaven. The young girl wanted more out of life, wanted a career as a model or actress and was kidnapped. As Katie and Sean search for leads, they are called to the scene of a house fire with a dead body in the basement. Have they found the missing teen? The killer is not done and the young girl’s friend is now missing. The cases must be connected and time is of the essence to find her before she meets the same fate. When they learn that the killer may have been able to alter his looks, have they already questioned him without knowing who he was? Katie’s uncle, the sheriff, is worried for her safety and the killer plans to ruin Katie’s one hundred percent cold case closure rate. They haven’t found the missing friend and now Sean has been taken. Will Katie, her team and her K9 Cisco find and stop the killer before she loses her partner and best friend? A complete rush from the very first page! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Find My Daughter by Jennifer Chase is the 13th book in the Detective Katie Scott series. I have not previously read any of the other books in this series and thought that this worked just fine as a standalone. Detective Katie Scott is at a conference speaking about some of her cases. At the end of her session she is approached by a distraught woman wondering if Katie can help find her daughter Anna who has been missing for a few days. A while later, after agreeing to help the woman, Katie goes to the parking garage to go to lunch when she hears a noise. It is the same woman she agreed to help earlier. She has been stabbed and left barely alive. The last words she says to Katie? Find my daughter. I won't go too far into detail for fear of spoiling it but... wow I was hooked from the first chapter! I have not read anything by Jennifer Chase before so I did not know what to expect. This book was fast-paced, exciting, and full of twists and surprises. I had no idea who the killer could be so I was shocked! Adding the rest of the series to my TBR! Thank you to NetGalley, Jennifer Chase, and Bookouture for this ARC. Expected release date is February 17th 2025.
Pine Valley cold case Detective Katie Scott returns in a confounding case.
That sees her approached by a desperate mother when Katie attends a conference in Sacramento.
Then, just a few minutes later, Katie finds the same woman dying in the car park, having been stabbed and as Katie tries to keep her alive. The mother makes one final emotional plea "Find my daughter"
So Katie doesn't waste any time in learning everything she can about missing Anna Braxton and starting an investigation.
But before Katie and her partner, McGaven, can make any headway, a body is found, and then Anna's friend Jasmine disappears.
And now the race is on...
As Katie and McGaven come up against a formidable foe. One who sees Katie as the only worthy opponent. But also believes they are far too clever to ever be caught.
And they might just be right.
As the danger is getting closer and the death toll is mounting and Katie is going to have to take all the risks and defy those she cares about. If she is to save a daughter and catch a relentless cunning killer.
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Find my Daughter. ☺️
I was lucky to read an ARC of this book which is the latest in a series I have really enjoyed. What I like most about this series is the role of K9 Cisco. Adds an interesting layer to a detective series, seeing the role of the search dogs. There were a few red herrings in this book, which kept the surprises coming. Fast paced and flowing plot, and we saw more of Katie's mental state which is understandable if you have read the other books, but it does work well as a standalone book too. It's good to see the relationships she has built developing further, with not too much emphasis on her personal life. I'd like to see more of the Fire Investigator in future books too. There were some brutal killings in this one, teenage girls going missing and arson among the main themes. I found the ending slightly disappointing, as we had been lead in so many different directions, so it felt a bit low key.
This is such a good series that includes a K9 partner, Cisco, for Katie. Although in this one, Cisco is mentioned but not featured prominently through most of the book. But I’ll always take whatever animal I can get.
The darkness of the case is offset by Katie and McGaven’s friendship and her helping him with his love life. I like their connection and how well they work as a team. Knowing each other so well will help them get through a harrowing part of the investigation.
This starts out running and the pace never relents. I like the chapters from the killers point of view. It gives me insight, but not enough for me to figure out who it is. It had me doubting every male character in the book at one point or another. He’s an ever-changing chameleon that will keep the team on their toes. He is clever, but Katie has a few tricks up her sleeve to keep him guessing too.
And that ending. I just know there will be a round two. Is it too soon to start wishing for the next book?
McGaven would never forget her pale face and blue eyes staring back at him, as if he was giving her to the devil.
Anger didn’t fill her soul, it was rage.
His eyes said everything she needed to know, in that it was clear the man was desperately searching for something that was never going to happen— to right whatever went so wrong in his life.
Katie’s life was always a flux of bittersweet reality when it came to her work.
My Review:
This one was rather creepy. It featured a brutal and volatile psychopathic serial killer who was skilled and clever despite his insanity. Narrated from a third-person omniscient point of view, the storylines were active yet easy to follow, with realistically challenged and flawed characters all doing their best. However, my favorite part didn't have anything to do with the characters but was the irrefutable power of the jelly bean.
I can’t seem to get enough of Katie, Gav, Cisco, John, Denise and the rest of the team. This book was especially interesting and intense. A totally unique, creepy, psychotic killer who has been evading the world for years is now in Pine Valley. As always, the story is so compelling and engaging that I couldn’t help myself from reading it through the night without stopping. This one was really tough for them and as usual, Katie never stopped, she pushed herself and Gav to make sense of the case as they fought for their lives as well as the missing girl. I really love how the author is constantly enriching the characters and evolving the team into something special with more development of John and a few new characters. I can’t wait for the next installment. I hated when this ended, I just wanted more. This series just gets better with every new book.
Find My Daughter is bk 13 in this series and each book is twister and more complex than the last. As always I love coming back into this world with Katie, McGavin, and one of my favorite canine companions Cisco. From the minute a woman comes up to Katie during a seminar and asks about her missing daughter only to end up dead not too long later. Katie was already going to look into the daughter's case, but now there's no question.
From page one I was invested and didn't want to put it down until I reached the end. With twists and turns around every corner the tension keeps building keeping you on the edge of your seat and completely immersed in the story. I can't wait to see what kind of case Katie and McGavin will be solving next!!
This is the first Detective Katie Scott book and I absolutely loved it. I’m such a sucker for a strong female MC, especially detectives. This book is about Katie and her team searching for missing girls and the person who killed one of their mothers. It seems as though Katie always ends up being a target of the killer (seems like a common theme with female detectives). Her male coworkers are determined to keep her safe while they find the killer.
I love that her gut directs the investigation. She just gets these feelings that something isn’t right. And she comes to conclusions that her counterparts don’t.
I can’t wait to pick up more of Jennifer’s books and read more about Detective Katie Scott.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC of this book.
Find My Daughter, book thirteen of the Detective Katie Scott series by Jennifer Chase is an intriguing and captivating thriller that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! I’m a long time fan of this series and I have to say, this one took on a bit of a darker edge and I didn’t figure out the bad guy until the very end! I love Katie’s grit for digging in even when things get down right tough and dangerous and I love her friends and partners for always having her back. My favorite characters are Katie, McGaven and John but my most favorite is Cisco, Katie’s K9 partner. This book was excellent and had an ending that has me wishing the next book was out already!
A thriller of murder and mayhem from start to finish. I have rated all of them with 5 stars however there were things I didn't care for. From the beginning I didn't like Chad. He came on to forcefully and riding on the past. They were best friends growing up and he felt safe to settle down with but that is all there was. I hope the series continues and her chemistry with John continues to grow. She has to stop looking to the past and embrace someone who moves with her and shares her passions. Another thing that bothered me was the use of the same names used over and over. These are not even common names that you would hear. Example: Tessa and Darren (used multiple times)
A woman approaches Katie and begs her to find her daughter who has gone missing. Not long after, Katie finds the woman badly injured, and the woman says to find the Million Dollar Man.
Bodies are piling up, and Katie and her team are no closer to identifying the brutal killer.
I enjoyed this thriller, Katie is one of my favourite detectives.
The book is a little drawn out, and clues are found, but none are quite enough to identify the killer, never mind find him. He is elusive and a master of disguise. But thanks to dogged detective work, and Katie's instincts, the maniac is hunted down.
