I was so thrilled to get an ARC of Luka. The setup for Luka’s story happens at the tail end of Lincoln. You can find the review for that one on my grid, and it’s a memorable setup. Luka was illegally body-checked, was concussed, and took a skate blade to the face. At the beginning of his book we get a recap of his recovery from his perspective this time so we get to see what’s going on with his mental health, he’s pretty understandably not in a good place, but that is exacerbated by unresolved trauma he has from when he was a kid and his father suffered a head injury bad enough to change his personality into a very angry and abusive man. He’s scared of becoming his father.

Enter Liliana, she runs a kids charity that Luka was supposed to go and volunteer at – apparently no one actually explained how injured he was when they sent someone else in his place (we never find out why now), and so she’s pissed at him because she thinks he ducked her on purpose and that he’s a jerk. Once she finds out how injured he really was, after he does show up for her kids and goes above and beyond, she is super apologetic. It’s understandable that as a non-hockey fan, she didn’t follow his career, but her whole family ARE a hockey fan, so between the Quakes not explaining the situation to her and her family knowing exactly what happened to Luka enough to explain it to her, it gets a bit confusing.

Their love story is very sweet, they’re opposites, but she really does help Luka to heal and turns out to be exactly what he needs. The stalking storyline with her ex gets really intense. It’s important to remember that this is definitely NOT a rom-com series - these hockey boys deal with some dark stuff. There is a detailed assault, kidnapping and knife attack in this book.

The portrayal of Luka’s mental health was so well done. As was the open secret that is Matt and Phoebe, I’ll be interested to see how that gets dealt with in Holtie’s book, he’s up next.

If you like your hockey boys broody and intense and kickass independent women, then these books are for you.

stars: 5/5
spice level : multiple descriptive scenes
warnings: stalking; mentions of childhood abuse; alcohol abuse; domestic violence; graphic knife scene

✦ tropes etc.:
- curvy FMC
- scarred and tortured MMC
- stalker ex
- daddy issues
- opposites attract
- Third-act break-up
- nicknames
- mental health rep
- enemies to lovers

Luka by Elisa Jane

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Luka a professional hockey player off on an almost ending season injury gets confronted by Liliana a feisty community service owner because he failed to show up at an event at her center. As she knows nothing about hockey she has no idea what that even means and why they sent someone else in his place but she doesn’t care the kids wanted Luka. Her outburst immediately stirs something in him and although he is struggling with his new physical appearance (a scar on his face) and mental health, he shows up at the community center. The scar on his face doesn’t seem to bother Liliana at all and although she hasn’t dated since her breakup six months ago and wasn’t looking the more time Luka spends around the more she is drawn to him. Their relationship and bond grows quickly but her ex-boyfriend Eric doesn’t like it and Luka is struggling with nightmares and anxiety attacks. Can their relationship survive all this?

This was a very emotional read, I loved the banter between the characters. Alisa did a fabulous job with character building and creating a slow burn romance with plenty of heat, but also a relationship that helps heal one's emotions, you need to read Luka!

This story will pull at our heartstrings, and will hold you tight so you can feel the pain. As you read you will meet Luka who is a hockey player who at one of his games gets severely injured. He went down, and an ice skate slashed his forehead, I felt it, I heard his head hit, this was devastating.

His healing process isn't going well. He has self pity, he's drowning himself in whiskey, and self-loathing. He needs help, he is turning everyone away.

Liliana Alvarez has an Non-profit outreach program for kids and this is how she meets Luka, their first meeting was sparks and daggers, he didn't show up for reading with the kids day, he was volunteered to be there. And you don't make Liliana mad, she is a very strong headed woman who doesn't take crap from anyone, and calls them out on their crap.

This is just what Luka needs, I believe. However there are twists and turns in this story, and danger lurking. Got to go read the 📚

A broken pair. A great story that follows right after the first of this series. It fills in the cracks so well it could be a stand alone but then you might have missed the first one. A dual POV format featuring a feisty Latina Liliana, who runs her own non-profit and the grumpy left-winger Slovenian Luka, who doesn’t smile for anyone. Their meeting becomes pivotal in their lives. Except for all the things that pull them apart. There is lotsa hockey even with some explanations of the game, certainly just for Liliana’s sake. There are pickled turnips, most likely for all the foodies. There are big families for everyone. This is a story with plenty of action. A few fights. A few hurried phone calls. A real appreciation of a story that leaves you wanting more!

This book dives straight into the action, and I was riveted.

The heart breaking, and emotional journey Luka struggled through as he navigated life after his injury, was so raw and real it punched me right in the feels!

He was lost in his misery, until the hurricane that is Liliana pulls him to task and makes him accountable… and it’s brilliant! The banter, the chemistry— fabulous.

Solid read!

Spice Level:  🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2

Luke by Alisa Jean is not for someone looking for a light, fluffy hockey romance.  Luka catches your heart and emotions right from the start.  When I started reading the book, I didn’t think I would immediately be going Oh my god, I can’t believe I just read what I did.  What happens right from the start is something you can clearly picture in your head and would hate to see happen in real life, let alone in a book.

Luka, who is the male lead of the book, is everything someone looks for in a guy.  He is kind and caring and pays attention to his partner.  He is also very smart, and that is shown by him knowing at least five different languages and thinking of picking up another one.  Not only does he know the languages but he also learns about the culture.  For someone to take the time to dive deep like that shows something about them.  Even tho he seems great, he is dealing with PTSD not only from the incident from the start of the book but something from his childhood.

But that is where Liliana, our female lead, comes in.  She is trained to notice PTSD and panic attacks in children as she started and works for a foundation that works with children who are not in the best of situations. She knew the signs, and having this experience, I think was great because she didn’t feel sorry for Luka; in fact, she wanted him to get the help that he needed and knew what to do when he was in the middle of a panic attack.  As the book goes on, you will find out she is dealing with her own thing as she does have a stalker.  The way the stalker situation played out was not how I thought it would, to be honest, and it had me on the edge of my seat, not able to put down the book as I wanted to see how it would play out.

Luka is book two in the A Los Angeles Quakes Hockey Series, but the good news is that you don’t have to read book one to know what is going on in this book.  Yes, the characters from the previous book do show up in this one, but they are not the main focus, and you get enough of the backstory to not be lost.  Luka is written by Alisa Jean, who is not just one person but two. Alisa Jean is a pseudonym for Marla A. White and CJ Bahr, who are the two authors who have brought us Luka and the other book in the series.

Luka is a 4 1/2 star read for me.  This book was enjoyable from start to finish, but with the subject matter it dealt with, it was a harder read, and for me, I needed to take my time to get through it depending on my mood or the day I had.  This book, while it did deal with a lot of emotion and hard stuff, was not light on the spice.  This is a 4 Chili Pepper on the Spice Level.  While there were a good chunk of spicy scenes, there were times the authors just did a fade to black, which I liked.  We don’t need to know every detail, but it shows that they wanted to show more than just that when it comes to the story.

Luka will be out on April 17, 2025, wherever you get your books.

Luka is a gut-punch of a sports romance wrapped in raw emotion and resilience. It follows Luka Ribic, a star hockey player whose life takes a brutal turn after a devastating injury. His face and his sense of self are permanently scarred when a skate blade slashes across his temple during a game. What follows is a slow-burn, tension-filled journey as Luka grapples with his trauma, drowns his pain in whiskey, and isolates himself from the people who care about him. Then, there’s Liliana Alvarez, a fiercely determined woman who doesn’t take crap from anyone. She calls Luka out on his broken promises and drags him (sometimes literally) into her world of community outreach, where his past, his fears, and his future collide in ways he never saw coming.

Luka’s character is layered and heartbreakingly real. The opening scene slams us straight into his nightmare, his body hitting the ice, the crack of his head, the searing pain of the blade. The injury isn't just physical, it’s mental. His panic attacks, his self-loathing, the way he pushes his friends away, it all feels painfully authentic. One moment that sticks out is when a little kid in a grocery store takes one look at Luka’s scarred face and runs away in fear. That hit hard. It’s a reminder that his struggles aren’t just in his head, his reality has shifted, and the world sees him differently now.

Then there’s Liliana. If Luka is fire, she’s an explosion. She storms into his life, calling him an “arrogant shit” to his face, and honestly? He needs it. Their first interaction is hilarious. She’s furious that he bailed on a reading event for underprivileged kids, and she doesn’t care that he’s a pro athlete with a sob story. But as the book unfolds, their chemistry goes from sharp and combative to something deeper. One of the most satisfying moments is when she calls him out on his self-pity, but later, she’s the one to defend him when she learns about his injury. The way their relationship shifts from enemies to reluctant allies to something more is so well done that you don’t even realize when you start rooting for them.

The writing is sharp, the emotions hit hard, and the banter is top-tier. There’s humor in the darkness. Luka’s dry wit, the way his teammates refuse to let him spiral too far, Liliana’s family roasting her for not realizing she was about to meet a hockey legend. The book does a fantastic job of balancing heavy themes like trauma, self-worth, addiction with the lightness of friendship, love, and redemption.

Luka is perfect for fans of sports romances with grit, heart, and plenty of heat. If you love a broken-but-badass hero, a heroine who doesn’t take any nonsense, and a love story that burns slow but explodes when it counts, this one’s for you. And if you’re into hockey? Even better.

In her second Los Angeles Quakes novel, Jean delivers a powerful story of scars, strength, and love’s ability to mend what’s broken. Once the dazzling golden boy of the L.A. Quakes, Luka Ribič is left scarred and spiraling after a brutal on-ice injury. His recovery isn’t just physical but deeply psychological, as he wrestles with panic attacks, insomnia, and the fear that he’s becoming the very darkness he’s spent his life running from. Liliana Alvarez is the last woman willing to tolerate his self-pity, and the first to see beyond his scars. What begins in conflict turns into a chance at love—but only if they can survive the ghosts chasing them.

Their early encounters bristle with conflict, but Jean allows tension and confrontation to ripen into trust. Grounded in vulnerability rather than fantasy, their romance develops slowly. Both characters grapple with the idea of being defined by their wounds—Luka by his visible disfigurement and Liliana by the shadows of her past relationship. The story keeps circling one central question: do our scars break us, or do they shape who we can become?  Hockey provides more than a backdrop. Its brutal hits and fleeting moments of grace mirror Luka’s struggles both on the ice and in love.  His recovery on the ice is as tentative and vulnerable as learning to love again.

The prose is both fast-paced and deeply felt, sliding from playful team banter to striking intimacy. Luka’s Slovenian roots and Liliana’s fiery bilingual voice bring cultural weight, and the split narrative—one voice steeped in despair, the other in determination—keeps the story moving with vibrant balance—create a rhythm that feels balanced and alive. Through Liliana, Jean explores the theme of service: the belief that healing often comes from turning outward and giving to others.

Ultimately, the novel is both an enemies-to-lovers romance and a story about scars, both visible and invisible, and the courage to let someone else touch them. It delivers the adrenaline of hockey and the heat of romance, but what remains is tenderness—the story of two broken people daring to believe they deserve more than survival. Readers who loved The Deal by Elle Kennedy and Consider Me by Becka Mack will find much to admire in this sports romance. A gritty, heartfelt hockey romance that balances passion, pain, and healing.

Score! Alisa Jean writes another incredible Hockey Romance

In Luka, the reader is introduced to the titular character, and his family. In the first few chapters, you meet his sister and mother, and learn about their family, the dynamics in the family, and their Slovenian culture, which lays the groundwork for the story. Luka is part of the Los Angeles Quakes Hockey Series, and this is volume two. I am a big fan of Alisa Jean and read whatever this author writes. This author has a grand imagination, and talent for showing the story. There are two points of view for this story, one is Luka's and the other, Liliana. So, insert Liliana, an amazing woman, who is also the founder of KIDS LINK, which supports underprivileged children. The chemistry they share, they try to deny it, but it's there. It's not forced by the author; it is created by the characters. Lilian is a strong woman, basically a powerhouse when it comes to her dedication to her cause, her purpose. Luka is drawn into her vibrant personality, but his own self-doubts, and abuse driven childhood at the hands of his father, still takes haunts his mind. Luka goes through his period of self-discovery, taking the reader along with him. The story tells itself, and it is one of those unputdownable books. It is more than hockey, more than romance, but totally about people, their purpose, and the will to push through. An emotional rollercoaster. Luka is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. This is way more than just a hockey player’s romance! This story has deep emotional content that will tear your heart out but still deliver a love story that will leave you breathless. The front cover of this book spoke to me….why. I’m not really sure but I saw an individual man standing alone facing away from the fame and wondered why he looked so defeated. The book explains why. Luka Ribic the starting forward for the Los Angeles Quakes suffered two devastating injuries; a major concussion and a horrible cut across his face caused by an opponent’s skate blade slashing from his left temple across to the right side of his face. However, as horrifying as these were, Luka suffers much worse. He will find his Pikica, his feisty dot, in five foot four Liliana Alvarez as she confronts him for not showing up for her kids at the KIDZ-LINK, her dream organization that helps underprivileged children. But Liliana has a demon in her own life but can her Hockey Guy save her in time.

I loved the first book in this series but this one is even better than the it. I don’t know how author Alisa Jean did it, but I felt all of Luka’s pain and self-doubt to my very core. I rejoiced when Liliana had Matt, of all his teammates, go get him from the pub and every time his buddies, Linc, Bri, and Sonny intervened I found tears of relief rolling down my eyes. Yes, this is a book with a hockey player and there is quite a bit of on-ice time and yes, there’s a hot, steamy romance involved but Luka’s struggles from physical injuries and mental anguish make this book so much more. One to remember!

For my hockey romance/ suspense lovers, this is for you!

Luka follows Luka, a professional hockey player, and Liliana, a non-profit manager who runs a program that helps underprivileged and ethic communities where English is sometimes a second language.

This story starts right off with Luka suffering a head injury and getting this face slashed by a skate. Poor Luka, really felt his emotions as this happens. He always banked on his good looks so he grows insecure being around other people because of his scar. But during a doctor clearance visit, Liliana walks in and starts yelling at him for missing his volunteer time with her non-profit and doesn’t bat an eye from his scar. He is taken aback and is intrigued with her.

After some forced proximity, an attraction grows and they soon become an item. But a few things try to hurt their relationship: Lily’s ex stalks her/ issues threats to get back together and Luka has some serious underlying traumatic issues that causes panic attacks and bits of rage. Is Luka able to overcome his issues and get help to heal so he can fully commit with Lily? Does Lily handle her ex so she can put that past behind her? Read to find out!

Ugh, really loved Luka and Lily together. And how they helped each other through their issues: Lily helping Luka realize that he is more than his bad accident and Luka helping Lily when she needed it for her non-profit. I really felt his pain and yelled at my kindle for him to get the help he needs.

This is my first book by Alisa and loved!! Def picking up the rest in the series. Thank you Torch Lit Ink for the opportunity to read this as an ARC! Pre-order this today, releasing 4/17.

Second in series by Alisa Jean in the Los Angeles Quakes series. I read the first book in the series and was very happy so was glad when I found out Luka was next. Overall very well written, good plot, wonderful characters and sports romance.

This book follows Luka and the struggles he is facing and the woman who helps him overcome it all. Luka suffers a massive face injury and concussion at the end of the previous season which really shakes him. Not just because of the massive scar that now scares children but also because he feels like he is not himself anymore. He is much more quick to anger and panic attacks. Based on his family history (no spoilers so I'll let you read about this in the book), he is really shaken. Lilianna comes at Luka guns blazing when she thinks he stood up her mentor program kids. She doesn't see his scar at all but just thinks he is another privileged athlete. Once she gets to know him better, things between them change. Luka has never felt anything like what he does for Lilianna but he is scared he will unknowingly hurt her. Lilianna will do everything in her power to help Luka overcome his fears and find the love he deserves.

Overall a great story. I really like how the concussion aspect was portrayed in the book as it is a series issue in sports and how it changes them. I loved Lilianna's fierceness for Luka also. Definitely a good plot. and would recommend.

Hockey star Luka’s life changed in a split second, and he’s got the scars on his face to prove it. Wallowing in self-pity isn’t helping but maybe a spitfire beauty who sees his heart will heal him. When her stalkerish ex-boyfriend threatens to come between them, Luka will have to fight hard for the woman he can’t live without.

Luka is so much more than a hockey romance. It’s about how to bring yourself out of depression. This book deals with beauty and strength. It’s a play on Beauty and the Beast but with a hockey twist. It’s also about finding love when you least expect it.

These characters tore my heart out, especially Luka. I can’t imagine the physical and emotional pain he went through on a daily basis. His transformation throughout the book shows how tough and resilient the human spirit is.

The romance, though, is why we’re here. The author takes a beast of a man and brings into his life a heroine who tells it like it is. She doesn’t hold back which is perfect for the two of them to fall in love. Plus, the romance is full of emotional angst. I cried more than once while reading.

If you love a tortured hero, you’ll adore Luka. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

‼️ Arc review ‼️

This book may be enjoyable for people who want a quick read that don’t really mind the plot being shaky. However, I’m a very plot driven person and it was all over the place.

This book kinda bothered me after I read it and went back to reread the tropes. It is NOT an enemies to lovers. And there was no cultural clash. And no beauty and the beast references. And the stalker was thrown in at the very end like it was a last ditch attempt to make it interesting.

I tried really hard to like this book but after the first smut scene, I realized the writing wasn’t for me. The writing style was very repetitive on cringy words and the characters were just awkward. The FMC felt like a side character in Lukas story. I understand the ‘beauty and the beast’ was mentioned bc the MMC has a scared face and he hates himself for it but that was it. Nothing else that was advertised was found in this book. Luka was the main character and this was basically his own book about over coming his insecurities.

I tried blaming it on not reading the first book in the series, however I genuinely think it was the writing style and false advertising that threw me for a loop.

JUST BC I DIDNT ENJOY IT DOESNT MEAN YOU WONT!

Whew this book had my emotions all over the place. I wanted to squeal in happiness, scream in frustration, and my heart even broke.

Luka is struggling after a horrible accident on the ice that left him scarred. He feels like a monster with his scar and has been in a deep dark place. He’s been having horrible nightmares and is just struggling, but doesn’t want anyone to know. He has some struggles from the past he is trying to forget about his dad, but they seem to keep surfacing.

Liliana is such a strong and independent woman. She loves the people close to her deeply and would do anything for them. But she is also stubborn and doesn’t like to ask for help. Her work with underprivileged children is amazing and her passion in life.

Luka is determined to get Liliana on a date, but she is hesitant. I love how he doesn’t give up though. Their connection is deep, but is it enough for all the darkness Luka is dealing with? Liliana wants to help, his whole team does, but not everyone knows all of what he is dealing with inside. And the ex…OMG!!! That psycho…I just can’t even. What a POS!!

Another hockey romance that made me swoon. Luka went from pretty face hockey player to the team grumpy pants. After a horrible accident that left him broken physically and mentally, he is just living life going through the motions. When a miscommunication with a nonprofit children organization puts him on the directors hit list, Luka comes face to face with Lilly. She is a feisty Latina who doesn’t take crap from anyone and doesn’t play when it comes to her kids. Luka is shocked and turned on when Lilly doesn’t treat him different like all the other people have after his accident. The two start off rough but after spending time together the two develop into something more. Sadly their past won’t let them be great and they have to fight for each other or give up. This book was so much more than what I was expecting. I love the diversity of the characters. Had me researching Slovenian food and language. Also got me ready for a hockey game. I can’t wait to read book 3.

TW: trauma, grief, abduction, stalking, domestic violence, child abuse

I had my reservations at the start of this. The FMC seemed, off the bat, to be written as a stereotypical Hispanic woman. Her calling Luka names from the beginning, even after finding out what he went through, and not apologizing almost made me give up on her.
I kept reading, like I always do, and the story was not bad. There were obvious set ups and nothing was unpredictable except Luka’s lash out toward the end. Talk about overkill.
I think the pacing really took away from this being a great romance story. A lot of their relationship, we’re told about instead of actually experiencing with the characters. It really felt like Luka dealing with his issues and Lily being present in his life, even though half the book is her POV with her own issues. I do want to read book one in this series to see if the pacing is the same and if the writing is consistent with this book.

Luka is the second book in the Los Angeles Quakes Hockey series by Alisa Jean. Luka is recovering from an injury that could have been deadly and is dealing with the trauma left behind. Liliana is a fiery, strong willed woman trying to get past a failed relationship and make her non-profit thrive.

This story was a good read and had some really good comedic and touching moments. I love the camaraderie that Jean built between the team and the families. Readers will likely identify with both Luka and Liliana while also finding the fun in their story.

I enjoyed this story, but at times the writing was not the easiest for me to fall into. The storyline and characters were a major plus and kept me wanting to see what would happen.

If you want a good romance where characters are beautifully flawed and are able to find their way to understanding with splashes of great humor and sweet moments, you will enjoy this book.

✨I received this book as an ARC for free in exchange for an honest review✨

🖤 Hockey Romance
🖤 Enemies To Lovers
🖤 Tortured Hero
🖤 Mental Health Rep

This is my first Alisa Jean book and I loved how they represented mental health and the struggles with PTSD.

Luka is a professional hockey player that had a major injury during a game and has been on the road to recovery. Liliana runs a nonprofit organization to help underprivileged children and knows nothing about hockey.
Luka is struggling with PTSD and his new facial scar is taken back when Liliana doesn't react to his new physical appearance. In fact he is enthralled by her feisty personality.
The heartbreak and emotional journey that Luka is going through is so raw that it only makes you feel for him and makes you hope that he overcomes his struggles. Liliana is the perfect woman to help him through this. She is willing to fight for both of them.

Thank you to the Author Alisa Jean & Torch Link for the ARC!

ARC Review!

I loved this book so much, thank you so much to the author for sending this ARC to me, I loved the Chemistry between Luka and his girlfriend it was so realistic/relatable that it seemed like Luka and his girlfriends relationship actually existed outside of the book. The spice was very good in this book. I love a good hockey romance, this book gave off very much touch her and your done vibes. The stalker ex boyfriend in this book is honestly scary and needs help, I love how protective of Liliana that Luka is and how he goes to any length to protect her from the scary ex who has been stalking her and then physically assaults her and then abducts her, and Luka saves her and is just one of the best protective boyfriends in a book that I have read thus far. Absolutely a 5/5 star read for me, highly recommend this book if you love hockey romance/sports romance

Luka by Alisa Jean wasn’t what I expected, although it wasn’t unwelcoming. At first I was like this is going to be a slow burn and soo not what I’m used to but I pushed to the end and oh wow. The build up in this story is absolutely incredible, the two characters are well written and the understanding of trauma that is shown in this story is absolutely astonishing (in a good way). Luka pictures trauma, more particularly head trauma, guilt and other overwhelming emotions perfectly and showcases the affect they can have and how easy it is to allow that darkness to swallow us whole. Not only that but it has the perfect balance of friendship and teamwork (and a hot side character that has my heart) I definitely recommend this story.

This enemies-to-lovers is heartfelt and genuinely good.

The story was so sweet, but straightforward as well. I thought a lot about Beauty and the Beast during this book.

Luka was severely injured during Lincoln’s book and we were re-told about it. (You don’t need to read Lincoln to read Luka. We are refreshed at the beginning of the book.) When Luka is healing he closes people out because he is afraid of what will happen since the accident.

Lilliana runs a kids charity that Luka is supposed to volunteer at and when he doesn’t show and someone is sent in his place she gets angry and thinks he is trying to skip out. Lilliana soon learns about Luka’s injury and makes it her mission to make sure he heals in the best way.

I read the first book in the series through Hidden Gems, so when this ARC was offered, I wanted to see where the Quakes would take us. You do not necessarily need to read the first book, but you might enjoy it as a good setup for all the characters. This story focuses on Luka, who was gravely injured at the end of the prior book. Not only was his face scarred by a skate, but he also received a severe concussion. As he is getting back to the team, he meets Liliana, a woman who runs a children’s charity that the Quakes are volunteering at. There is an instant spark and they begin to see each other, but there seem to be a few challenges, including Luka’s injuries and Liliana’s ex, who will not leave her alone.

Luka is in a bad headspace as he struggles with his injuries and his childhood trauma. When he meets Liliana, she brings him out of his funk to help her with her non-profit program.

Despite their fiery meet-cute, soon Liliana realises that Luka is a good and kind person, as she sees his interactions with the kids. I loved those scenes where he volunteered.

The last act was a tough act to read with both of them struggling (for different reasons). The ending though was perfect for our tortured hero. On a separate note, it’s so interesting to learn about Slovenian and Latina culture (and foods!).

Luka and Liliana’s story was so sweet. I love how they bonded over their respective cultures’ foods (Slovenian and Mexican) and their passion for helping children. Luka really does the most for Lily’s organization out of the goodness of his heart 🥹

Now I need to go back and read Lincoln’s story and learn how he ended up with the owner of the Quakes!!! 🫡

Thank you Torch Lit Ink for the ARC!!!

Can’t get enough of hockey romances and this was no different. Luka by Alisa Jean was such a heartwarming read. From the banter between the MCs to all the mental health reps this story features. My heart hurt for poor Luka & all that he had to face after his accident. I think everyone can relate to a time in your life when you’re just too embarrassed to talk to those who are closest to us. I loved that Lilliana was able to break him out of his shell & really help him get back on the right track mentally. The character development & plot line kept me wanting to find out more. This was also beauty and the beast inspired and it did not disappoint!

This was really good! I had no idea what to expect going into it. When you get to the end, you read about the authors and realize Alisa Jean is a pen name for two authors who typically write mystery/suspense/paranormal. That makes total sense because this one has several suspense elements. It is not your typical hockey "romance". It is not light and fluffy. This has grit. Luka has some mental health and physical issues leftover from a serious hockey injury. And his girlfriend, Liliana, and his team help him through his issues. There's also a stalker component that adds some suspense to the story. Very worth the read, and I can't wait to read Matthew's story coming up in July!

This story follows MMC Luka, an injured hockey player, and FMC Liliana, the manager of a nonprofit for under privileged kids. Luka suffers an on ice injury that effects him mentally, as well as physically. Luka is struggling and meets Liliana who isn’t afraid of him and just wants him to fulfill his commitment to the kids she is helping. During Luka and Liliana’s forced proximity, sparks start to fly! Their relationship has its challenges from Liliana’s stalker ex, to Luka’s anxiety, panic, and anger issues after his accident the two have a lot to overcome. Luka’s internal issues did frustrate me and I spent a lot of time just wishing he’d find a good therapist!

This is my first time reading Alisa Jean’s book and I got sucked in. Luka’s story is heartwarming with some serious:surprising moments. This is a sports romance with some beauty and the beast aspects. I love how Luka can be himself and protective when he’s with Liliana. I also love how strong she is and is able to handle her own. Their romance is unexpected, but sweet and spicy at the same time. I love their chemistry and the interaction with the family and friends is hilarious. I really enjoyed their story and can’t wait to read more.

I voluntarily leave an honest review of this gifted advance readers copy.
