Only in Your Dreams

Rate this book
Finley Blankenship is tired of always coming up short. When her long time boyfriend dumps her because he isn’t ready to commit, only to announce his engagement to someone else months later, she’s had it. So when her now ex comes to her flower shop to check how she’s doing after hearing the news, she lies and tells him she’s moved on. Only for her brother’s best friend to walk in at the same time and get roped into her story. Committed to playing the part, she reluctantly agrees to pretend to be in a relationship with the one man in their small town that would never actually date her.

Grey Sutton has been in love with Finley for fifteen years, but he’s never thought he had a chance. After all, he’s an honorary member of the Blankenship family because his own is so dysfunctional. He has no idea how to give Finley what she wants. Especially since he was offered a job out of state, and Finley is as rooted in this town as the trees.

But as their relationship starts to feel less and less like a charade, it leaves them with more uncertainty than ever. Lines start to blur, and Grey and Finley have to decide if they’re willing to risk their hearts to have everything they’ve ever dreamed of.

I love a good fake dating romance, and though I don’t think this one will be memorable, it was a fun, easy, and sweet romance!

This book is literally what I envision to be every girls dream come true when they’ve been hurt far too many times when it comes to love. To feel loved correctly and being someone’s choice, always. It just made me smile.

This series is soft and sweet. Low angst, low drama, clean romances for when you're in that mood. A cute brother's best friend story with a whole lot of pining. Grey and Finley were adorable together and Holden wasn't an annoying brother. It was a little slow, but it worked for me right now.

I specifically remember loving the winter vibes in Off the Beaten Path! And here's another super tender addition to the series that perfectly captures all the summer feels with lake swims, funnel cakes, and carnival rides!

At its heart, this story is about learning to feel enough. I loved seeing Finley and Grey find that sense of comfort in each other. With Grey being her brother’s best friend, there’s already an established connection between them, making their banter extra fun and layered with history. Finley doesn’t hold back the sass, and Grey has that effortless charm and easy flirtation that gets me every single time!

It’s a relatively low-drama romance with lots of sizzling tension, and I really love how natural the tropes felt. And can we just take a moment to appreciate a romance where the brother isn’t annoyingly overprotective? The real conflict comes from Finley and Grey needing to be honest with their feelings, pushing past their own hesitations. It was so soft and heartfelt.

(heat level: one mild open-door scene in epilogue)

Surprisingly emotional and very cute! This is a 4.75 rounded up.

Finley has just been dumped by her boyfriend Gus of almost two years because they want different things. She wants the white picket fence, 2.5 kids, house in her hometown. He doesn't want marriage at all. She's mourning the relationship at her brother's wedding, gets a little too drunk, and needs to be taken home by her brother's best friend Grey, a town firefighter with a reputation for 'one date-and-done' and who Finley overheard telling her brother that she was annoying. Little does she know he's been pining after her for over 15 years. Fast-forward seven months and Finley's ex comes into her flower shop to tell her he's getting married, causing Finley to panic and say she's moved on to - with Grey. What else can they do but fake the relationship when Gus invites them to the wedding?

Childhood crush • small town romance • fake dating • brother's best friend • found family

When I say I want pining, this is what I mean by it! This was dual POV, so we got a look into both sides. This is a case where I actually preferred the MMC's viewpoint simply because he was going through so much! He has a less than stellar relationship with his parents, so much so that Finley's family felt more like home to him. He's been in love with Finley for YEARS, and is considering leaving just so he has a shot at maybe finding someone who wants him back. We get all these sweet moments when their fake relationship is going on and you can tell how much he loves her. Finley is oblivious at first, but when things actually dawn on her, the story just gets so much better. All Finley wants is to be enough for someone, and hearing her thoughts on it tugged at my heart.

This is a story that is very easy to predict, but sometimes it's comforting to know it's going to go a certain way. I do feel that the conflict of the story fell a little flat, but overall really enjoyed this. This is a mostly closed door romance so that's something to be aware of if you're someone who prefers spice in your romances.

GENRE
-contemporary romance

CONTENT
-🤬: moderate amounts of moderate language (no f words but 38 instances of all others), some crude language
-❤️: some innuendo, 🔥 makeouts (some with MMCs shirt off)
-⚠️: apathetic parents

I loved this one! Grey has been GONE for Finley and Finley alone for the past 15 years. Naturally, Finley is unaware of this. When Finley's ex confronts her, she lies and says she's seeing someone-- Grey. Grey's relationship with the Blankenships is the definition of found family. I love that he and Finley end up together because it all just fits so beautifully!

I loved the way Grey encouraged Finley and supported her in her SO many ways-- taking care of her when she wasn't well, bringing her her favorite flowers, hyping her up about opening a bookstore. His love for her poured off the page; you could feel it! On the flip side, Finley's reassurances to Grey that he was loved as he was and that he could be himself without adapting when he was with her was equally beautiful.

Also, loved the proposal, loved the epilogue, loved the names of their kids. If you're okay with language in your books, you should definitely check this one out!

🫠 “There’s only one woman I’ve ever wanted in Fontana Ridge, Finley.”

📚 There's something about reading books that are guaranteed to end in a happily ever after. Sure, they're some times over-the-top or unrealistic, but for a romantic like me, they're hopeful.
Everyone always gets what they're look ing for, or at least what they didn't know they needed. Everyone gets their happy ending. Everyone is enough.

🔥 "You're staring again."
"I'd have to be dead not to, Finley."

👗 "So you're saying you liked my dress so much you got it tattooed on you?" I ask, lips curling into a smile. He just shakes his head. "It wasn't the dress, Fin. It was you."

📣 "Just by existing, by being the person you are, you deserve happiness.… Love. You don't have to change yourself, mold yourself into someone other people want. You're worthy, as is. I hate that people have made you feel otherwise."

❤️ “Committing your life to someone means learning to love all the versions of them over time. The Finley you fell in love with years ago isn't the same person she is now. She's changed, and you have too. You have to keep learning to love each other through it."

☀️She hasn't figured out that she's the sunshine breaking through the storm clouds that have hung over my life so far. That while her family and my aunt and Charlie and my job have been enough to keep the rain at bay, there wasn't any sunlight until her.

😍 "I've been broken for so long, Fin, and you've been putting me back together.
I've never met anyone I could be myself with the way I am with you, and I don't think I will again. What we have is special, remarkable. Once in a lifetime. The stuff of dreams."

Oh gosh, this was a gorgeous, gorgeous read!

Only in Your Dreams is swoon-worthy, from start to finish, it's made of the stuff you dream of in romance: a healthy, tender, heart-warming love story, two incredible leads with wonderful, evolving personal arcs, and a backdrop filled with an eclectic cast of characters and settings. I had such a good time!

Finely, oh Finley! I felt reflected in her character. It hurt to see her insecurities, her fear of not being enough. It's such a relatable feeling-- a relatable fear. It cripples her, but what I love about this vulnerability is seeing how she fights back at it throughout her journey. It's the type of arc that will have you hollering and crying all at once as you see her climb that mountain. Love you, Finley!

Grey. My Grey. Ahhh, the greenest of green flags. Love him forever!
I loved every single second in his POV-- I loved seeing how much he loves Finley, how smitten, in love, and forever dreaming he was of her. It was so pure, so romantic, and so endgame.
If you're looking for your next book boyfriend, look no further-- Grey is your man! And mine! And Finley's! Get in line, folks!

The romance between the two comes together so fabulously-- it's fake dating trope but it feels different because you know one half is in it for real, and this is a chance they won't let go of. This is a chance to make those dreams to come. There's something at stake from the onset and I held my breath all the way through out. My heart was thump-thump-thumping, and it burst into rainbows, and stars, and soooo many swoons! This was an incredibly well crafted love story.

And shout out to the epilogue! Thank you Madison Wright for giving us a true epilogue, not a "few days later" epilogue, but years later! YES! I just about cried. It was so perfect-- so fitting of the title (and all its callbacks). It was warm blanket to cuddle with, a warm smile to light you up, a warm hug to nestle in.

It's the type of ending you, well...dream of.

If you love romance that ignites the heart on fire and brings on the dreamy sighs and swoons-- be sure to pick up Only in Your Dreams. You're going to love it!

“there’s only one woman I’ve ever wanted in Fontana Ridge, Finley.” talk about a man obsesseddd😍

loved loved looooved Grey and Finley. this was just as good as ‘off the beaten path’ with many Wren and Holden appearances. Madison’s books are so wholesome and sweet. they’re perfect for those of us that crave a low stakes, less spicy romance with green flag mmc’s and kind-hearted fmc’s.

Grey and Finley are childhood friends with Grey being in love with Finley for the better part of his adult life. this romance is so sweet, it makes the reader never want to settle for less than what Grey gives!!! the foundation of the friendship already being present made the romance even more connected. I loved the vulnerability with both Grey and Finley and how much they were there for each other, emotionally and physically.

I can’t think of a more sweet romance book than this one. Madison has outdone herself for setting the new standards of fictional men!!! a brother’s best friend, childhood friends to lovers, fake dating, and closed door romance book that will have you swooning and wanting more ❤️

This was quite a quick read for me. I wasn't really expecting to read this fast at all.

Writing wise, it was quite good, in my opinion. I did like it and thought it was pretty easy to read. I didn't have problems getting through the writing and following the flow of the story

The fake dating plot wasn't something new to me tbh. I've read tons and have faves with this trope. As for this one, I was really expecting more from it to give this exciting execution. However, I find the last half pretty anticlimactic and dull.

The characters were decent, and at least they were interesting enough for me, but it really failed to immersed and make me care towards them in full.

Although the romance was pretty cute in some parts, I also did like some of their moments, I think the romance wasn't that developed for me? It was pretty stagnant for me, and I didn't have these intense moments. It really did lack the exciting and pinning and attracting element of the fake dating trope. I wasn't really that invested enough for like half of if.

Overall, I think this was at least a decent read for me me? There's some good moments and some moments that's just 'meh' for me. I think I would have liked it if it was more engaging and exciting.

Thank you, author Madison Wright, for the e-arc via Netgalley.

✨ARC REVIEW✨

It's no surprise that I loved this seeing as I really loved Off the Beaten Path. As soon as I saw the opportunity to read this, I ran. Not even realizing this was part of the series, the cover absolutely captivated me and the blurb convinced me further.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book. I am a sucker for brother's best friend and the fact that this is Holden's best friend is even better. Holden in the ultimate grump but knowing he has a friend like Grey just melts my heart.

Finley is a ray of sunshine and I genuinely loved her character. She has such relatable and realistic thoughts and feelings. I found myself relating a lot to her insecurities and general thoughts about certain things. Because she's so raw and vulnerable, she felt more real. I also loved her personality beyond the doubts. She's just an adorable person who has a lot of love to give.

Grey is a charming mush and I just absolutely ate him up. I really think this book could have just been written about all things Grey and I would have devoured it. He's such a kind hearted, sweet soul who just wants to be loved. I really wanted to just hug the crap out of this man the whole time. He was a wonderful character and I really loved him.

I was thoroughly entertained by these two. I absolutely loved watching their friendship turn into that romantic love. They've always loved each other but not like this. This love was beautifully written. They're just so cute and wholesome and you can't help but fall in love with them. Whether they fake dated or not, you knew it was inevitable that they would end up together. They just fit. Their chemistry was fun and adorable. I loved their banter and their digs. They bantered in a flirty way and I really loved it.

I really enjoyed that even though there wasn't a 3rd act breakup, there was still some unsure thoughts and doubts that added to the story. Finley didn't want him to give things up just for her but Grey doesn't want to give her up and it's beautiful.

I had a fun time reading this. I was entertained. I got some good chuckles in and this story felt so cozy and cute. I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THE BOOKSTORE plot. And let's just call it the "book riddles" at the very end. So adorable, so "raising standards for all men out there".

I absolutely loved the poppy flower references and the secret tattoo. It just added to the cuteness to it all.

I definitely recommend reading book one first just because it feels right to do so but regardless, this can very much be read as a standalone. You get appearances by Wren and Holden - not enough to spoil anything but enough to give you a taste of their story.

If you've read anything by Madison, you know how cute her books are. If you haven't...welcome...here's a really cute romance book.

Shoutout to Madison for her author's note. Absolutely bittersweet and had be tearing up. You're a rockstar.

Thank you so much to Madison Wright and NetGalley for the arc copy!!

This book was okay, I would give it 3 stars. Everything about this book was average, nothing unique about the story, the romance, or the characters. The one thing I enjoyed was Grey's complicated relationship with his parents. There's nothing overtly wrong with Grey's parents, they provided Grey with a safe home, clothes, food, resources to become a good human, but it still wasn't enough. One could argue that there wasn't enough love and affection, or they weren't good role models on what a healthy relationship should look like. It just made me think about what makes a good parent. People can be decent human beings and be terrible parents or vice versa, but most people are somewhere in middle just trying to survive day to day life and parenthood.

Such an amazing book! I just love this series so much.

Madison does an amazing job at filling her romance books with so much tension & affection for being a closed door writer.

This one had so many awesome tropes, that I love, and I was super happy it was Dual POV so that you got both perspectives throughout.

I also was happy that the characters from book one were in a lot of this one too.

You get:
• Contemporary Sweet Romance
• Small Town
• Fake Dating
• Secret Crushes
• Brother's Best Friend
• Found Family
• Tension

This is such a good read! Available on KU, ebook, paperback, and audiobook.

I loved Off the Beaten Path so I have been highly anticipating the release of Only in Your Dreams and it did not disappoint! Finley’s boyfriend of 2 years broke up with her because he couldn’t imagine ever getting married, but months later he shows up at her work to tell her that he is engaged. Finley ends up roping her older brother’s best friend Grey into pretending to be her fake boyfriend, but she doesn’t realize that Grey has been secretly in love with her for 15 years.

This was such an adorable small town romance! Grey is a top tier book boyfriend. He is so sweet and attentive, and I loved how he was so supportive of Finley s dreams. This book had me smiling from ear to ear, and I loved every second of it. I highly recommend this series if you love small town romance!

What to expect:
🌸 Small Town Romance
🌸 Brother’s Best Friend
🌸 Fake Dating
🌸 He Falls First

When two broken souls meet, they find their missing pieces in each other.

From the moment I picked up Finley and Grey's story, I was transported back to Fontana Ridge and all the magic this small town possesses. I just couldn't wait to watch their story unfold. And oh what a story it was!

Finley and Grey have known each other for years and have pretty much loved each other just as long. They both have been through so much and have a hard time believing that there is someone out there for them that they are deserving of. It had my heart breaking. But the more time they spent together, the more they were able to open up to each other and see each other as they truly are. They saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. And all they wanted to do was protect and lift each other up, be there for each other, and show each other that they are enough.

I truly believe that no two people ever read the same book. This book, I think, is definitely one of them.

Words cannot articulate all the feelings I have for this book. I went into it thinking the story would play out in a certain kind of way, but then it went in a whole other direction. A direction that had me seeing a deeper meaning, a deeper message, one that I needed to hear. This book is phenomenal!

I've only read two books by Ms. Wright, but she is quickly making her way up my favorite authors list. I've loved the books I've read so far and can't wait to read more by her!

And of course I can't forget my casting. I'm seriously loving these two!

I’ve come to depend on Madison’s books to be sweet and low-angst which is so great for a quick and easy read. This series especially delivers on the small town vibes, which I love!!

All throughout OIYD I felt so sad for the broken main characters. Both Grey and Finley were going through their own stuff and I just wanted them to get their HEA. 🥹

Grey’s story especially broke my heart a little bit!! And also he was head over heels for fin, boy was down BAD 🤭

Overall, I think I enjoyed off the beaten path a bit more but also don’t have any huge complaints about this one either!! I’m eager to see where the series goes next!

Thank you so much to Madison Wright and @Netgalley for the arc! 🫶🏼

This was A LOT of back and forth for me. Basically, Finley and Gray are in love but they don’t wanna act on it cause they think the other one doesn’t like them. But they do start fake dating and during those pretend hand holding and occasional kisses they realize they should be together. Anyways, I felt like the storyline was unnecessarily dragged too much. There’s constant back and forth and I just lost the appeal of their relationship. BUT I did love how Finely fought for Gray and literally flew to him to tell him to stay. Gray needed someone in his corner with the life he’d had and I was overjoyed when they actually got together for real. They’re precious.
