A decent review of literary and philosophical precursors to the modern form of the idea - it's all a simulation. Followed by a brash rush through modern physics. Quantum this and quantum that. More evidence that we are living in a simulation, or so it is claimed. Who knows. Maybe the real question is what difference does it make. And what exactly do you mean by simulation or real. Or consciousness for that matter. Marks on a piece of paper? Can they be conscious as they change over time programmatically and are constantly erased and rewritten by some complex multi-pencil mechanism? The resulting picture/movie can look and behave like anything but why would you possibly think there is anything 'on the inside'?
Nice try and lots of good references but all a bit rushed and superficial. Slow down. Give us some depth. I look forward to book 3 which it seems will address more directly the question of 'what difference does it make'.
