Danica Grey is an Investigator to the rich and fabulous, with a twist. Magic and a small but powerful dragon come with the package.

Her latest assignment has her caught between mega rock star Damien Zane and someone who wants him dead. But now it’s up to her and her Fae Dragon partner, Jilly, to deliver on their promise. No dead clients.

It would help if he’d actually listen. Will it cost him his life?

Zane has been bombarded with threats on social media in a coordinated campaign but finding out who’s behind it is almost impossible. That’s why he’s hired Danica Grey.

Impossible brings out her best work.

Danica will need to build a new team in her new position as head of Spellbound Security in Cleveland. Failure is not an option with so much at stake.

From backstage at rock shows to the hallways of conventions and everywhere in between, she’ll have to protect Zane from his stalkers. But can she protect him from himself as he wanders into a crowd?

The new gig requires walking a thin line. Do Danica and Jilly have the right magic to pull it off? They’d better or Damien Zane is a dead man walking in ostrich leather boots.

Behind the scenes is a mysterious figure who lends his formidable talents and resources to those with enough money to buy his criminal services. Damien Zane is in his crosshairs.

Can Danica and Jilly lure the hunter out into the open? There’s only one way to find out.

For action, magic, snarky banter, martial arts, mystical creatures, and a dash of mystery, join Danica and Jilly for the launch of Spellbound Security!

I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.

I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.

My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.

Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

This was a pretty good start to the new series. I like the MC and her little dragon. It has the right amount of wit/humor and snark.

In a word: Phenomenal!

Ok, I’ve been a fan of TR’s since he first started this whole Oriceran trip that he’s been on, and it has been a great pleasure to watch his writing and style of writing evolve over the years.

If you’ve read any of my reviews, there has been a definite pattern from book to book and also from series to series of continuous improvement. Both his stories and his characters have gradually acquired more depth until we reach the point where we have THIS book that is seemingly both simple and complex.

The “battle” scenes are perhaps the only element which are consistent across all of his series. I imagine TR must either be quite expert in multiple styles of fighting or takes the time to fully choreograph each fight sequence because the level of detail he brings to those is remarkable. Unlike his earlier books in which the “ action” scenes took center stage, here, even though the book launches into action from the get go, it’s all about the story/characters. At least that’s how it feels to me.

I was actually quite surprised when I hit the end of the book. I started reading it just before dinner and quickly became so lost in the world he was painting that I finished it just before climbing into bed. Well, let’s be honest, I had no intentions of going to sleep until I finished it. It was just that good.

Now, on the next morning, I find there’s nothing specific I can point to that makes it so good. Superficially, this might even be his most superficial story to date. But how it’s “assembled,” the way in which the characters come together and the plot develops, it’s all just so engaging that it’s simply his best work yet. As I said…. Phenomenal, and since the second book is already out, I’m off to find and pull that out of my digital TBR pile and dive in.

Enjoy!

Good read

Book 1 of this series has loads of magic, but also plenty of paramilitary physical and mental training. The team leader is a woman with Elf lineage and a ton of magic with a mini dragon, an ex military female, a man who can get anything for the team, and their boss who was a family connection. There is humor, danger, magic, loads of action, and mystery. Highly entertaining.

An entertaining and intriguing story, Danica works in the securities circuit.
When tapped for a global mega star with a bad boy reputation and seemingly little sense to match, she is wary of her chances to protect him (and rightfully so given his reputation) but reluctantly accepts the job.

Danica, with a carefully hand chosen small team and her own skillful magic as well as her mini pint size magical dragon Jilly to watch and guard Damian and his band, are there when the mercenary teams come after Damian and teammates hard, but ultimately and with great effort and a lot of battle moves to take out the opposition, win for the good guys -gotta love it when the good guys win.

Fun book, charismatic characters, fast paced action, high speed chases — lovvvvve, as will adrenaline junkies! Authored by a fav writing dream team and an absolutely worthwhile read

Great new series! Great characters that work well together! I definitely love the challenge of starting a new branch office while learning & creating the right team. And the dragon is a great touch too.

It's been awhile since I've read any books in the Oriceran world/universe, but this definitely whet my appetite & makes me want to go back & check out the other series that I have missed. Great Job, can't wait for the next adventure!!

What a plebeian, uninteresting, BORING book. Perhaps if you're into security tactics and silly magical crutches, you'll enjoy it. Pasteboard characters, contrived fight scenes, paper-thin plot. The only character with flair was the tiny dragon, Jilly; good imagination there.

I forced myself to finish it, and I'll never get back that time I spent. Won't be reading anything else from T.R. Cameron, either.

kinda sluggish but good once you get going

Overall I’ve enjoyed this first book in this series, it’s a slowish starter and seems a tad overpacked with the backstory.

I’ve given 4 stars, but I’m hoping book 2 gets 5 stars!

Can certainly recommend, just be braced for the slow start

Very good start to, I hope, a long series. Danica and her team fit together nicely. Everyone has a strength, even Jilly. The story line was interesting and plausible, depending on the amount of magic available. The characters were developed well. Plenty of action. Waiting impatiently for the next book in the series. Recommended.

It was fine. Pretty basic and standard for this writer team. Strong female leads with magic and martial arts training. A mini dragon as a sidekick with emphasis on the "kick". The security team set up is flexible enough for plenty of individual story options. I like that there is a full story (book 1) that completes instead of dragging a plot between multiple books. The antagonist will be hanging in and escalating for many more though. Almost always a behind the scenes bad guy. I'll probably continue with the series, but it will be in between other similar books, not in a rush.

New team

Danica gets offered a job with Spellbound Security to be the head of their new office. As she gathers her new team together she gets hired to protect a famous rock star, and this really gives the new team a chance to mesh. Like all of T.R. Cameron's books the characters are fun, there is lots and action and magic, the villains are diabolical, and there are dragons. I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

A good first novel in a series about a magical security company

This book is about a new magical security company run by an extremely talented woman, an eclectic team, really cool new digs, and a terrible client. Their rock star client craves adulation more than his own skin and continually puts himself and the team in jeopardy. There is plenty of humor and action. Oh, and a dragon. This is a nice beginning to the series.

So interesting!

A really interesting start to a new series. Nicely developed intrigue and character introduction. Starting a new security team from scratch. Finding people, setting up, and learning to work together while racing to protect. Add in the race to figure out moves and the bad guy identifies and a magical dragon friend! Fun and exciting stuff.

A Very Interesting New Series

as usual with any new interesting series this one seem to end too quickly. I anxiously await the next book in the series wondering where Sherlock's nemesis will lead the heroine.

I enjoyed this new series beginning very much. The build-up to the finale was so well done. Also, the final scene was amazing. I am already looking for the next one. Enjoy!

Well written book

Book was good. Story line interesting and a quick read. Not sure I'll read the next in the series. While entertaining not really my typical genre. For others maybe a perfect book.

Good action

I enjoyed how well it was written. It was fun to read the action scenes because you knew magic would be involved at some point but the characters were pretty kickass without.

intriguing

Fast moving with a great cast of good guy characters. Bad guys need a little more development but I suspect that will happen as the series progresses.

This looks like a good series, but I am not a fan of the "bad guy in the background to ruin things." No more for me.

Not a bad book but just average. It lacked depth and jumped between character perspectives later in the book without warning.

Books 1 to 2:

This is a book series that I started to read against better judgement since Martha Carr has her fingers in it and I always end up being disappointed with her work.

I did find the ridiculously long blurb somewhat interesting though and she is not listed as the first author so I gave it a try.

It is a pretty average urban fantasy series so far. It is not really bad but it is not really, really good either.

It is good enough for me to spend some time reading it. It is pretty simple and fast reading. The characters are fairly okay, the story is okay. It is another one of those that you can read while doing something else at the same time.

Her dragon can be quite cool though.
