A sixteen-year-old girl has abandoned her Mormon family for a pimp. Her father is devastated and asks his church’s elders to help hire a private investigator. It seems like an easy case for Dan Reno, except for one thing—the church bishop insists the pimp be put out of business permanently.
As Reno searches for the pimp, he knows every day is critical, for the naïve teenager has thrown herself into the mouth of a monster. But the pimp lives off the grid, and without a digital footprint, he’s difficult to find. Chasing leads across Nevada, Reno’s getting close, but the case takes a deadly turn when the pimp’s accomplice, a man with no boundaries, gets involved.
When Reno’s old buddy, investigator Cody Gibbons, arrives in Las Vegas to visit his daughter, he insists on helping. And no one better understands what’s required when doing battle with the most abhorrent criminals, consequences be damned.
But not even Gibbons could have guessed what motivated the girl to run away in the first place.
Dave Stanton is the author of eight novels in the Dan Reno private eye series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but for those who want to know, the order is: Stateline, Dying for the Highlife, Speed Metal Blues, Dark Ice, Hard Prejudice, The Doomsday Girl, Right Cross, and The Asylum Thread.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1960, Dave Stanton moved to Northern California in 1961. He received a BA in journalism from San Jose State University in 1983. Over the years, he worked as a bartender, newspaper advertising salesman, furniture mover, debt collector, and technology salesman. He has two children, Austin and Haley, and lives with his wife, Heidi, in San Jose, California.
Stanton's eight novels all feature private investigator Dan Reno and his ex-cop buddy, Cody Gibbons.
Dan, Cody, and Abbey to the rescue in The Last Boundary
Dan, Cody, and Abbey go to war once more against a sleazy pimp, a monstrous Haitian psychopath, the Moroccan/Israeli mob, and corrupt cops in a desperate quest to rescue a not so innocent Mormon teen from sexploitation and prostitution (and herself). An engaging action packed story, mostly gritty and dark, but with enough light and comedic banter between Reno and Gibbons to keep the reading from getting too heavy. I especially enjoyed the villainous Haitian Vashon Tatus. The author dedicates an entire chapter to his grisly background. He’s a character I’d like to see resurrected for future stories. The Last Boundary is a fun and exciting addition to the Dan Reno series. Full marks from me. Put it on your TBR.
Dave Stanton's characters Dan Reno, rhymes with Leno, and his loyal friend, Cody Gibbons, are the good guys who have no problem confronting the criminal elements. They encounter the underbelly of society with on the edge of your seat circumstances. These are two men you find yourself rooting for every book in the series. Get ready to enjoy the high voltage saga of a Private Investigators fight for justice while making his living against the odds. Dave Stanton gives you entertainment and education all in one.
We waited a while for this one. It was well worth the time anticipating it's arrival. The story was filled with all the traits we expect from these two and as much trouble as they usually land in, including a hospital visit ....or two. I love the participation of Abbey, too. She's so much like her Dad. The world is a better place without the MorrocanMob! Bravo!
Dave Stanton has created colorful and interesting characters that sometimes get into situations ranging from normal to far-fetched ...... not unlike this world in which we live. These are some of the reasons why we read and enjoy the Dan Reno series of books. I'm looking forward to the next adventure. No problemo!
I find it hard to suspend belief for much of this story. Way too much space wasted on the background of one of the bad guys. I also cannot believe church leader would be involved in such an affair. Not sure if I will read any subsequent Dan Reno novels if available.
I may have,to get some antidepresents, I've read the last Dan Reno novel. As usual, a great read. Twists and turns and adventures to spare. I am officially offering to be an ARC reader and since you live nearby anything I can do to help get a new book out quicker, tell Chuck, I'm ready. Hope you're feeling better. 👍
Edge of my seat read, sneaking away to catch a few more pages when no one was looking kind of story. Looks like a book that will make a great Xmas present.
As always a Dave Stanton book is hard to put down. Exciting and fun read, great characters. Have read all the Dan Reno books and look forward to the next one.
