After another historian is murdered, Jacob Roberts is confined to his residence for a year looking forward to moving out of the cold monochromatic industrial zone into a higher station in society. He is given one last assignment in the field to complete but a mysterious stranger in the shadows makes him question everything he believes, the future he thought he wanted, and most importantly the officials in charge of the new world order.
S.L. Walker is a native of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Most of her released titles our steeped in Erotica, as she believes it is about mutuality and a common bond between all adult readers. Most reviews of her work include the hint of the macabre and the shocking illusion of realism that hinders the mind from accepting it as a fictional piece of work. In 2012, her love of writing came as a therapy for her concussion suffered in a biking accident. It was then that she independently published her first novella “Becoming Brittany” as a part of a series entitled “The Accidental Killer Series”. Two years later she had finished the series in publication, as well as began a new Science Fiction Dystopian Romance titled “The Warmth, Part I.” She also wrote the omitted chapters, only available in published format, of “Ma Nouvelle Vie: Wrecked” for Fray’d Tag Publishing in their collaborative fiction effort. Her short story "Gryneli" was published in a short story collection by Hammered Horror Publishing entitled "Femme Fatal" in October 2015.
Totally following this author and I love her writing. This short is a quick and easy read into a dystopian sci-fi world that transports you into a different realm. I would say this story doesn't have a lot of Mature Content but enough to give the warning I suppose. I was a little disappointed expecting the same kind of mature content as her other work but I'm only guessing it's the setup for #2 and there is where we will find the smut I like ;) There is an eroticism between the main characters but not in the way many view the definition of eroticism now days. Can't wait for part duex.
The last line is absolutely a crusher, I agree with another reviewer. I am looking forward to Part 2 for sure!
The story moves pretty quick thwarting you into a futuristic world at the lowest realms of society. You have the rebellion on the outside, the slaves, and the only hope for both: Jacob Roberts.
The eroticism between Adia and Jacob resonates through my kindle and makes me sweat but his companion steps in and although he is forced to go through the sexual motions with her longs for Adia. What a problem... that is absolutely an awesome web to read.
Five stars would have been achieved if it were longer with more details, but it is a wonderful short for certain.
Much different from "The Accidental Killer Series." Science Fiction/Dystopian/Erotica all rolled into one. Like that it was a short read, and therefore I didn't have to set it down or bookmark it rather just ate it all in one sitting. I like the character Adia but like his companion more and hope to see more about her (hopefully)-- also the story of Adia & Jacob's siblings would be a good side story. I really felt I was transported to the new world and it is painted vividly and the convo's between Jacob & Adia are wonderfully written and pop. Anyways - loved it.
Really wished this was longer. S.L. Walker does wonderfully with her writing and the stories & plots she weaves but hate having to wait for the next installment. Different from debut series but loved it. I do want an explanation for the title so that and the short length is the only reason I dropped it one star.
This author is versatile. Loved the setting, the characters are really interesting. I really have to wonder where the story is going. The last line crushed my heart! Will be getting Part 2 the first day it comes out.
This was a short I got on a rainy day and fell in love with the story and the last line definitely has me anxious for #2. Went back to read this authors other stories and I have to say she is a new fav author of mine.
I bought this because I loved the author's debut series. I've not read any dystopian literature since Fahrenheit 451 back in middle school, so I may be a little out of touch with trends and such. But, this first installment of The Warmth was, in my humble opinion, very original as well as convincing. Actually, the overall state of the world in this story is not too far off from what could actually happen. In addition, there are elements that make this story pure sci-fi, so I think that The Warmth can and will appeal to a broad spectrum of readers. There's even some erotica thrown in there with more to come. Like I said, I'm not a sci-fi/futuristic/dystopian reader. However, I found his story easy to follow and difficult to put down. I'm definitely looking forward to the next part of the series.
