This book was very good. The title says it all. Savannah is a scientist/professor who gets engaged to her boring, but rich boyfriend. The man is a tool and can't satisfy her in bed, not that he was trying. He's one of those men who is out for his own pleasure.
Feeling neglected on Valentine's night after her man proposed and dashed, she decides to head to a local bar where she runs into a jerk from her past. The jerk follows her home and attacks her. Big mistake, huge! She beats his butt and pepper sprays him. The commotion causes the maintenance man to take notice and he comes to her aid, only to get sucker punched by the stalker.
Savannah feels bad and invites the hunky maintenance man into her condo to treat his bleeding nose and he in turn cleans up her scrapes. She feels lightening in his touch and wants him. He sees her ring and declines her advances, but gives her his card and tells her to call when her head in on straight.
Well, just like the title says, Jesse the maintenance man spends every Thursday IN Savannah after that point. He knows she is engaged, but he can't stay away from her. The woman treats him right, making him breakfast in the morning and packing his lunch, but the kicker was when she put a slice of home made apple pie in his tool box. He was hooked.
Things get complicated and the boring fiancé finds out. He's so boring, he catches them in the act and leaves without them knowing. When he confronts Savannah in an indirect way, he tells her she has until the new year to stop. What kind of man does that? I was so over him, his six minute interludes and his Bougie mama. I can't tell you how much I wanted Savannah to dump him!
Jesse, on the other hand, was putting in work. He was cracking that back something fierce. Baby, when I say Jesse had old girl panting and screaming for more. He was also kind, generous, and his family was mad cool. I wanted to shake the mess out of Savannah for taking so long to choose between the two men. Jesse would have been mine from the first Thursday! Any man that can make you climax on first contact is for me! Woo!
Anyway, read this book and get your life! I give it a 4.5.
This is my third book by this author. I have had this book since May 2014 and have only just now got around to reading this book.
It was a good read and I loved the fact that it was the woman who had two men in her life that she was having a full relationship with both of them. It was interesting trying to understand Savannah's justification for why she was in this position. I loved the fact that both men knew what was going on including the family members too.
I like that the drama was subtle and no-one was doing evil things to each other they were allowing the scenario to play out fair and square.
I like the book well enough. I didn't particularly cared for the cheating. Just not my thing. However I still purchased it.Because I was familiar with Olivia Gaines writing and I have a few of her other books. At times parts of the book had me laughing out loud, and other parts had me giving Savannah the side eye and rolling my eyes. At how annoying she was. However it all turn out good at the end.
Cheating in not my cup of tea, and although I liked Savannah and even understood her rationale, she justified the behavior for too long. Refund requested.
Thursdays in Savannah by Olivia Gaines was a fun read... and also a eye rolling one. First let me say this is my first time reading a story by this author and save for a few typos, overall this story went smoothly with minimal bumps when it came to other types of issues that could cause a reader to do a double take. Now to the the two main protagonist---Savannah and Jesse. Savannah and Jesse meet the night of her somewhat surprising engagement to Darwin--- a man she's not really in love with. The sexual chemistry between Savannah and Jesse is explosive. Jesse makes Savannah feel things her own fiancée can't do since he's so stuck in his ways and a horrible lay.
Here's my gripe with Savannah---she's a bit slow at times. To be such a smart, well educated woman one would think that she would make better decision regarding her relationship with both men. After awhile I knew most of her decisions were due to everything that happened in her past and her wariness with falling in love again. I swear at times I wanted to reach through my reader and smack the crap out of her for being so dim when it came to the man she really wanted and needed to be with. Jesse was patient, more patient than most men would be in his situation, but he stayed the course and waited for realization to dawn on Savannah. She'd been without before and scrimped on food and cash to be able to live. What Darwin offered was security.
She was on the road to an unhappy marriage because Darwin could give her the things she so "badly" needed not even realizing all the things Jesse had been doing for her without her having to ask. I didn't see Savannah as a gold digger, just a woman not wanting a repeat of starving and living pay check to pay check. But after awhile her ways became tiresome and seriously I rolled my eyes a couple of times telling Jesse to find someone who was not as confusing.
Overall, if you like a happy ending this is the story for you. Just be prepared to roll your eyes a couple of times. I thought it funny that the prologue was written in first person in Savannah's voice begging the reader not to judge her. I think that's what truly brought me through the story.

... hampered her from allowing herself to look for real love. Her mistaken belief that security was more important
Kiki was a woman whose childhood experience of her father dying hampered her from allowing herself to look for real love. Her mistaken belief that security was more important that love almost kept her from that understanding. I love how she allowed herself a sliver of lustful endulgence; Just one touch of Jesse and the mind battle was on for her awakening. Her character made a 360 turn around to the realization that life with a man that would provide security was not where she wanted to be, especially not having to deal with his awful family. Jesse and his family was a no brainer choice for her, and he was determined to help her understand that. I love to read plots of characters that struggle and have the light bulb of realization to turn on in their lives so they can have their HEA.
I liked it. I would have given it 3.5 stars, but Savannah being cool with cheating on Darwin for months knocked it down a peg. Otherwise, it was great. Jesse and Savannah were hilarious together. I still don't understand what she thought didn't make him the perfect package, but that's her journey.
I've seen this book so many times and have bypassed it. Well finally I bought and read it. I'm so glad I did. It was funny and loving. Even though I don't agree with the cheating, but with a man like Jesse I can't blame her. You have to find your happiness at some point. I really enjoyed this story.
The book cover is so hot!!!! However the book content is not. I found myself struggling to finish. It did not flow. There were so many point of views and quickly switched from 1st person to 2nd person. The transition was choppy. It was a good 60 pages in until we read a description of the leading lady but it focused on small irrelevant details beforehand. Overall, it was lackluster.
This is my first book by this author and it certainly won't be my last. I found the chemistry between Jesse and Savannah to be exciting. I found the dialogue to be extremely funny, at times I found myself laughing out loudly.
I hate when my reading gets interrupted and so I had to put this book to the side and take care of somethings. Once I was able to pick it back up, this book turned out to be so damn amazing and funny.
Dr. Savannah Niden PhD, believes she has everything she needs now, she has become engaged to an architect and he makes great money. For Savannah security is more important than love, for what she experienced growing up, love got you nowhere but an empty stomach, bills and debt left by your spouse after he died. Who needs love when you can have the safety of never going hungry or the threat of being out of a place to live. So what she doesn't feel anything about her now fiance Darwin, he makes loves like a fish out of water, her soon to be in-laws and sister-in-law could disappear for all she cares, she just need her house, status, children, a dog and a white picket fence.
Jesse Orison is the maintenance man in Savannah's condo complex. On her way home she is attacked and he saves her but the question really becomes did he actually save her because Savannah beat the living crap out of her assailant, Jesse almost didn't have to do anything. But the assailant landed a sucker punch and then before he can get him, Savannah lands some more blows plus she practically peppered sprayed him to death LOLL!! After inviting him up to her place to clean him off and herself, Savannah comes face to face for the first time of a real possibility of her missing out on life and that attacked jump started her heart. And Savannah proposes something to him that she would have never ever thought to act upon, so she propositions him which he respectfully declines because in his mind, its the adrenaline flowing from her attacker but if she is really serious, Jesse gives her his business card that has his number.
Jesse and Savannah embark on a every Thursday rendezvous and in their time together they will discover and uncover a whole lot about themselves and each other. This was not what they have bargained for but sometimes love catches you off guard. Sometimes if the man you are with is not tending to his garden, the possibility of another man tending, loving and fertilizing her garden will leave the neglector without a garden, he will find himself without his intended because he didn't take care of home. But Savannah is still engaged to another man, so the question is who will she choose?
This was a phenomenal story that will have you laughing, crying and rooting for love to prevail. Jesse and Savannah's book was so brilliant and I was so sad when it ended, this story I promise you will not be able to put down.
Thursday's in Savannah was literal😀. Reading this story had me laughing and rooting for Jesse and I am not sure how I feel about that being a Black woman😯. Anyhoo the man who really saw Savannah and appreciated her for who she is is the one who won her heart and the opportunity to build a life with her. Jesse did not try to change Savannah to suit his needs and he recognized what her doing little loving things for him meant i.e. made him feel loved, cared for and that he belonged to someone. Not to mention he coupled with her in a way that made her feel cherished and that he cared as much for her intimate pleasure as he did his own. I do like your storytelling Mrs Gaines so keep on giving me enjoyable books to read.
When the man have you making his lunch for work the next morning. Loved the story, in love with Jesse but..... Savannah is a dummy! My God she was maddening at time. A man like Jesse should never be in competition with a bitch ass dude. From day one Jesse has been a man of action and the fact that he had to practically beg this women to be with him really got to me. She did not deserve him at all. If I'm educated but dumb af was a person it would be Savannah. I mean what kind if juvenile ass logic did she have? She had not a single real concern. She questioning someone she down know on how they live and she live paycheck to paycheck. She can't comment on anybody life about nothing!
When you select an Olivia Gaines📖you can rest assured , you're in for a sweet literary treat 🍷. In Thursdays in Savannah , Ms Gaines ✍ a deliciously decadent, sweet, tender , swoon worthy , 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥, LOL, IR romance. I especially loved & appreciated her realistic portrayal of Savannah's life as a black research professor, teaching & doing groundbreaking research to benefit humanity, but still still struggles, scrimping & saving to eek out a decent living... This is so relatable. Damn, I wish I had a muscle bound, sweet, loving Jessie of my own 💃
I loved the storyline and the main characters, I did NOT love that it took Savannah so long to make up her mind about something that was soooooooo obvious. She was engaged to a fairly tedious man with a gross family. As each month went by and Jesse proved to be an amazing person I felt she should have acted sooner. But that was my ONLY reservation. Ms. Gaines had some truly funny scenes in this book!
I just loved this book! I loved everything about it. Even as annoying as Savannah got at times, I could understand where she was coming from, and even give her grace because really haven't we all been stupid or done stupid things at least once? Things that other people would roll their eyes at? Reasoning that makes no damn sense to anyone except us? So yeah.... The story was great, and even though Savannah was technically the villain, I still liked her and related to her. Five stars.
I truly enjoyed this story. As usual this author's brand of humor is belly busting. I am mad at myself because I purchased this book a month ago and just read it today. I need me a man like this one. I will cook, build furniture and network willingly. For me her choice was a no brainer. Finally, Sahara is absolutely adorable.
I've been a big fan of Olivia's work. She gives us a slice of Americana that is the right amount of sweet and spicy. I loved Savannah and Jesse's story. I have to admit that I passed over it a few times. I almost missed an opportunity at a really good book. The writing is solid and entertaining. Bravo!
I love Olivia Gaines, she is one of my most favourite authors, this story does not let her down. It's fast pacing, funny, entertaining and some parts are quite heartfelt. A wonderful story that I didn't want to end.
I loved this book. I actually was on pins and needles about her decision. I liked all the characters even dull ass Darwin. Love this Author, she brings so much reality and laughter in her books.
I was so prepared to not like this book because of the cheating. But I fell in love with the hero and heroine. They were complex and relatable. Their love story felt real and passionate. Olivia Gaines is an excellent story teller.
The entire time I read this wonderful book, I couldn't stop smiling! The instantaneous attraction that was destined for love was palpable! Love the characters and the storyline!
I initially wasn’t a fan of the storyline but OG handled the intertwining of this tale with grace and respect from the characters, with the main female character learning what life is really all about! Good read!
I don't condone cheating but Savannah has a decision to make. I enjoyed Jesse and Savannah story. The ending is equally riveting. She made a good choice.
Excellent read. Very well written. Definitely a top choice for my book club. Looking forward to the next deliciousness from Ms Gaines. She does not disappoint.
