Someone is kidnapping and incinerating otherworlders beyond recognition, and detective Marisol Whitman, a succubus, races to find the murderer before he claims another victim. But her pursuit is derailed when her responsible younger sister vanishes. Marisol suspects foul play and enlists support from an unlikely an agent from the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency, Valerio Costa.
When the trail pointing to everyone from vampires to witches dries up, Agent Costa admits to knowing more than he’s shared. Marisol’s sister’s kidnapper harnesses more magic than she can imagine—and they’re running out of time. To find her sister before her powers are drained and twisted beyond recognition, Marisol must connect the dots between cases and put her trust in Costa, a salamander who may burn her before she can solve either case.
Tiffany Allee currently lives in Phoenix, AZ, by way of Chicago and Denver, and is happily married to a secret romantic. She spends her days working in Corporate America while daydreaming about sexy heroes, ass-kicking heroines, and interesting ways to kill people (for her books, of course). Her nights are reserved for writing and bothering her husband and cats (according to them). Her passions include reading, chocolate, travel, wine, and family.
The first succubus that Detective Marisol Whitman of the Chicago P.D. "freak squad" knows is lost in Succubus Lost by Tiffany Allee is unfortunately one who is very near and dear to her. Marisol goes to her sister Elaine's room to wake her up for a shoe-shopping expedition and discovers that Elaine's bed hasn't been slept in.
Elaine and Marisol are both succubi. And Elaine is missing. But when Marisol slams into her Lieutenant's office to start a missing person's investigation, she discovers that Elaine isn't the only young succubus who has disappeared; twenty young succubi have been kidnapped over the last two years.
The Otherworlder Enforcement Agency has been tracking the case, right to her house. But the Agent the OWEA has sent, Valerio Costa, doesn't like or trust succubi, not since one destroyed his brother's life.
And Marisol still has other cases to deal with. There's a murderer on the loose on the Otherworlder side of Chicago, one who burns his (or her) victims to an ash so fine the cremains can barely be recognized as human. The murderer can only be a powerful coven, or an even more powerful salamander. Which is just what Agent Costa is, a salamander.
Could the disappearances and the murders be part of the same case? The OWEA's psychometrist says that all the victims are alive, right up until those cremains are identified as a missing siren, one previously unconnected to the case.
Then one of the victims turns up, with her powers subverted into something out of a nightmare, and her memory wiped clean. Marisol discovers that Costa has been keeping even more secrets from her about the case than even she expected from an OWEA agent--and she expected plenty.
But her sister's life and sanity are on the line, and Marisol needs to trust someone. Agent Valerio Costa is the only one who might be able to help her get her sister back in one piece.
He's also the hottest thing she's ever seen--and not just because he's a salamander. But if she trusts him and she's wrong, he won't need his powers to burn her heart out.
Escape Rating A-: I absolutely adore the Files of the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency series by Tiffany Allee (see my review of Banshee Charmer here). One of the things that she has done that is particularly neat is pull in species that are not the same-old, same-old. Every urban fantasy series has vamps and werewolves. And they are here, but that's not all.
Marisol is temporarily partnering with Astrid at the beginning of the story because Astrid's vamp partner Claude is on vacation. I love this! A vampire taking a vacation. (I hope Astrid gets a story later, BTW)
But the heroine of Banshee Charmer was a half-banshee. Not many banshee heroines. The hero of Succubus Lost is a salamander. Again, not all that common. Also, succubi, while they aren't rare, aren't the flavor of the month, either.
I missed some of the "cop shop" banter from Banshee Charmer. Marisol isn't "one of the boys" the way that Mac was, so the flavor was different. But I did like the way that the events of book one affected book 2. Costa's ID got thoroughly checked out, after the Chicago P.D. got fooled the last time.
Succubus Lost is urban fantasy that includes a strong romance between two people who have no particular reason to like or trust each other at the beginning, but need each other to solve a case. Watching them work through all their issues to earn their happy ending, is very, very satisfying.
My Review: A- Okay, so now I've read book #2 in this series. (I also did a review of book #1, Banshee Charmer, and you can find it right below this one if you are reading this review on my blog, Smitten with Reading.) I have to say I liked this book a bit better than the first, mainly because now the world is somewhat is established for us. And what an interesting world it is....with a lot of paranormal creatures you don't normally see in PNR books....like salamanders, which is what the hero is in this book.
The heroine in this book is Marisol, a succubus who we met in book #1. Her younger sister has disappeared, without a trace, and Mari knows something is wrong. When her sister was a teenager, she was attacked and she is just now starting to recover and learn how to live a normal life again. Marisol is a cop, so she immediately goes to her supervisor with her concerns. Quickly things escalate as Agent Costa (Valerio) shows up with information about a spree of kidnappings around the country that have been centered around succubus.
Even though I figured out fairly early in the story who the bad guy was, I still had fun reading the story and thought that the suspense was done really well. There was more of a sense of danger in this book that definitely ramped up the excitement while reading it. There is definitely a romance aspect to these books, but I feel like it runs secondary to the mystery/suspense story line.
That being said though, I really, really liked Agent Costa and his interactions with Mari. I can't imagine the difficulties there are living life as a succubus, men either wanting you or mistrusting you because of their reactions to you. Agent Costa definitely falls into the second group. He doesn't trust Mari....at all. Mari's is scared to death for her sister and dealing with a difficult partner certainly isn't helping her stress levels. There was a good amount of conflict between them with the underlying sexual tension to really keep it interesting. The author found a great balance of that chemistry in this book.
But you know, I'm a romance girl. These books just end with more of a Happily for Now type of ending. I want more...but I know, that's totally a me-thing, so I am trying not to let that fact sway my impression of these novels. I think the publisher is pushing these more towards the mystery/suspense side rather than the romance. But if you're like me and like the romance first and foremost, be warned...these books may leave you feeling just slightly dissatisfied in that regard at the end.
Succubus Lost by Tiffany Allee is the astonishing sequel to Banshee Charmer.
Sexy, charming and writting with a great plot it's definitely worthy to the first book and even more. It was simply fantastic and I loved reading every word of it. I am so thankful to NetGalley to have gotten the chance to read this. I thought Succubus Lost was in so many ways better than Banshee Charmer (Even though I've given it also 5 stars) so really I should give it 5.5 stars if I would work with halves on my reviews. It was that good in my eyes!
Spotlighting one one the secondary characters we know from the first book, Succubus Lost is about detective Marisol Whitman, a succubus. When she's working on a case where she comes across otherworlders being burned beyond recognition, her younger sister disappears suddenly. When Agent Valerio Costa from the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency shows up with more information it gets clear that someone is kidnapping Succubi to harness their power. Together they try to catch the kidnapper before it's too late and Mari's sister turns up dead and burned like the others.
I can't express my love for this book enough. Marisol was a great character. I've never read a book about Succubi but this one was really great. I love how Marisol is so protective of her younger sister, where in the first book we've already heard part of her story about. I can't decide wether I like Mac (from Banshee Charmer) or Mari more. I think I have to choose Marisol because somehow I can relate to her more. Valerio Costa. I just love his name. What a hot mess! Unlike in Banshee Charmer we found out right from the start what the kind of otherworlder the guy is. In Costa's case he's a salamander. Let's just say he's good with fire... among other things. :)
The romance in this book was fab! In this one it was more subtle at first because Costa doesn't trust Mari. She figured it's because he has something against Succubi. Later we find out it was with good reason. Anyway... once the sexual tension got too much and they finally gave in to each other you can't deny that they are so good for one another.
The final pages were very exciting and kind of nerve-racking too but brilliant nontheless! This book was sexy, fun, suspenseful and very witty, what I love most in a Paranormal Romance. I highly recommend Tiffany Allee's books to everyone.
The second installment of the Files of the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency introduces us to another detective, Marisol Whitman, who's also a succubus. Her latest case is tracking down a serial murderer who's targeting otherworlder women. When her younger sister disappears, Marisol's hunt for the killer intensifies and she's forced to team up with agent Valerio Costa from the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency. Having a new partner is not what Marisol had in mind but to save her sister she'll have to trust Costa and his secretive nature.
Succubus Lost is another original and satisfying read by Tiffany Allee. I really enjoy the strong and powerful heroines the author creates, they're smart, sassy and have smart mouths but also have a softness that makes them likeable. Marisol (which also happens to be my sister's name!) is a great leading lady who plays by her own rules but still has some insecurities when it comes to romance and the label many give her for being a succubus. She's loyal and persistent and I love that she's willing to step right into danger in order to save her sister and only family. Her relationship with Valerio starts off rocky with both making assumptions about the other and you can't help but love all the sexual tension between the two. I've read my share of paranormals but don't think I've come across any salamanders until now and never saw them as sexy but Ms. Allee changed my mind with Valerio Costa! He's dark, mysterious with a little bad boy in him that makes him irresistible. He's an alpha male but isn't afraid to let his guard down when it comes to love, you gotta love that!
With all its suspense, diverse characters and a hate-worthy villain, Succubus Lost is a book you'll want to read in one sitting. The storyline is engaging and the fate of the hero and heroine will keep you turning the pages. If you love a great police mystery mixed in with the paranormal, add this book and series to your list!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was looking forward to catching up with the characters and revisiting the world in Succubus Lost. I was actually a little bit disappointed when I realised that the story doesn't continue from previous heroine Mac's point of view and that this is actually Marisol's book. I really liked both Mac and Aidan from the first book and although Marisol and Valerio were OK I found them harder to connect to and didn't really find their relationship as believable.
If you've already read Banshee Charmer then you will probably remember Marisol as Mac's colleague from the freak squad. She has been asked to work alongside Valerio, who is an agent from Otherworlder Enforcement Agency, while he investigates a spate of succubus disappearances across the country but the case becomes a lot more personal when her sister becomes one of the missing women. Marisol is determined to do whatever it takes to find her sister, hopefully before she can be murdered, but the closer they get to uncovering the truth the more dangerous things become.
Marisol has always hated the way men look at her as just a beautiful face, as a succubus she knows her beauty is just nature's way of helping her attract men to feed on. For once she wants someone to see past her looks to the intelligent woman underneath and appreciate the fact that she has brains as well as beauty. Valerio doesn't trust Marisol or the feelings she brings out in him, he is wary that she might be using her succubus abilities to influence him. He has been hurt in the past and has no intention of letting anyone close enough to break his heart again. As they work against the clock to solve the case they become more connected but can they break through the misunderstandings between them to see if there is a chance of building a relationship?
Although I didn't enjoy Succubus Lost as much as I liked Banshee Charmer it was still a fun read and I liked spending more time in the world that Tiffany Allee has created. It is nice to come across such a wide range of different paranormal creatures and I'll be interested to see who will get their turn in the spotlight next. I did feel that the mystery was a bit too easy to resolve this time around which was a shame because it made the story much more predictable. I would also have liked to have seen more time spent developing the relationship between Marisol and Valerio, things between them happened far too quickly and it just felt like they were forced together in order to provide a happy ending to the book. In spite of these problems I will still keep an eye out for the next book in the series and am hopeful that it will be as good as the first story was.
When ashes turn up in an alley, detective and succubus Marisol is on the case. As she starts digging into the investigation, her sister and friend disappear without a trace. With the help of OWEA agent Costa she’s determined to find out who took her sister and why.
We briefly meet Marisol and get a bit of background into her sister in “Banshee Charmer” the companion novel to “Succubus Lost”. I really enjoyed Marisol’s perspective in this novel, she’s a fantastic character!
Bound and determined to do anything to find her sister, Marisol puts herself in the path of the kidnappers. With the help of Costa, she digs into all aspects of the investigation and learns who she can and can’t trust.
Like Mac and Aidan’s relationship in “Banshee Charmer”; Marisol and Costa have their ups and downs, trust issues and everything in between. Can she really trust him? There are again so many twists and turns in this story it kept me hooked from page one up to the very end.
Will I recommend this book? Oh yes, if you loved Banshee Charmer, then you need to pick this book up as well. For someone who love paranormals and mystery this author is definitely for you. Will I read more by this author? YES! I can't wait to see what Tiffany comes up with next for the OWEA.
Succubus Lost is charming, sexy, and well-written. This is the second book in the series and focuses on one of the characters introduced in book one. However, it can be read as a stand-alone. Some of the finer points will be a bit vague, but nothing that is crucial to the plot rather more background information. Both of the books have gorgeous women and charming, handsome men, and sexy scenes. The heat level, however, is more PG-13 than R rated and would be alright for more mature teens. This is a cute series with a fun and interesting mixing of paranormal with humans. In this case, the paranormals are police and FBI-like people. It’s like a tamer version of the Furry United Coalition series by Eve Langlais. I give these books 4 out of 5 clouds and a heat rating of 3 chili peppers.
Once having finished and loved Banshee Charmer, I started with this instantaneously. Yes, I love to read a series back to back.
I was disappointed to know this book is from the POV of Marisol and not Mac. But well…
This book is equally fast-paced and thrill-seeking. I actually finished reading both the first book and half of this book in a single day before my eyes began to droop.
Again, it’s a good read for a paranormal mystery and romance lovers.
Unlike other series, reading this one back to back may have gone against this book as I could find so many similarities between the two that it took away from the pleasure of reading this book. The romance, the words used, the plot – since I read them back to back, it seemed like so much was repeated albeit in a different way.
Succubus Lost is really interesting and intriguing story. It's unique in it's own way and I couldn't help but feel drawn to the world of the characters. One word of warning, though, the story is kinda fast-paced, so if you're to read this book, do not ever loose focus or else you'd have to start all over again as there's plenty of details included within each pages.
Overall, this is an enjoyable read if you're a fan of paranormal mystery. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this from Entangle publishing via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review for this book and I was not compensated in monetary ways for writing this.
This is the 2nd in the series - but it has a different cast of characters in the same world as Banshee Charmer. Still has the same police-procedural, mystery-to-be-solved feel, maybe a little slower pace and the hotness between the characters is slower to unravel - but the payoff is really good. I like how you don't know where the story is going until it unfolds. The clues are there, but you don't know quite enough about the world and the various powers of the other-worlders to see two steps ahead (something that bugs me in regular mysteries or procedurals). But you don't feel like the author is cheating you - you see the path to the answer after it's solved. A really good read. I hope there are more in this series.
SUCCUBUS LOST is full of mystery, action and lust, this, for me, was an emotional story as Marisol's fears and inner thoughts are laid bare. It's not like Banshee Charmer where things are hot, heavy and exciting, in SUCCUBUS LOST Marisol and Costa took their time in falling in love and breaking down the barriers that stood in their way.
This book contains kidnapping, murder, and mentions of human trafficking and rape.
The Basics:
This is the second book of the series, but it stands alone. I would recommend reading Banshee Charmer first anyway, because that's where he meet Marisol and get Elaine's backstory. We also learn more about succubus abilities than we do in this novella.
My Thoughts:
While I did enjoy Succubus Lost, it has the same issue as the previous book. The romance is, again, very much in the background and then about 60% in, it's almost like the author just squeezed in a sex scene to have a romantic element. I have no issue with reading a Paranormal Mystery. In fact, I do really like them. I'd much rather have that than a half-assed, forced Paranormal Romance.
In Succubus Lost, we're following Marisol, another Chicago detective. Although, this time she is a succubus and it's her younger sister who has gone missing. Of course, a sexy man from the super secret supernatural agency has to show up to help with the case. He's more of a prop than anything, as he doesn't really do anything useful except for telling Marisol about the related cases that he's been investigating. He also just happens to be the right type of paranormal creature to give her insider information.
Succubus Lost was a fun, quick read. There's nothing really wrong with it except for the lackluster romance, which ends with "I love you"s despite Marisol and Val only knowing each other for a couple of days. It was a pleasant way to spend two hours, but it won't leave a lasting impression.
that the MC's sister was attacked by someone someone because they thought she was a succubus and would be easy. It just made things real-er!
the whole experiment and conversion thing that was the reason behind the kidnappings
the violence level felt like it belonged with the plot
What I Didn't Like:
the succubus is said to be trying really hard that she be taken seriously, especially as a cop. What is said and what is shown are completely opposite. She throws tantrums, she pouts, she does not follow procedure, she does not bother checking on whether the salamander is who he says he is, she sleeps with him and finds out that he had been using her and yet this conflict is resolved within seconds at the end
a mystery where there was none. When I met the bad guy, I didn't even think he could be the bad guy because it would have been too simple
a love affair without heat. It felt unnecessary and stank of insta-love. She liked the salamander because he was good looking; that could have been explained away because of her being a succubus but she wasn't throwing herself at every guy, was she?
Pet Peeves:
A lot of clichéd and overused phrases. I just remember one about a character's nose looking as if it had broken a lot of times.
Don't Know How I Feel About This:
The plot was quite similar to the plot of the movie, Taken.
This is a sort of spin off from Banshee Charmer. Mac the main character in Banshee Charmer is mentioned, but does not make an appearance. Other events from book 1 effect what happens in this book also, but if you missed the first one, you could read this one without any confusion. Marisol Whitman, the succubus from the "freak squad", that Mac worked with in the first book is the main character of this book. Marisol's sister is kidnapped by someone selling succubi to rich men as sex slaves. It turns out Marisol and her friend Wendy (a siren) are only the latest in a string of women to be kidnapped. OWEA (the FBI for other worlders) are back in this story. Agent Costa (a salamander) has been sent to help find the missing succubi. The missing persons case may be tied with a murder case that Marisol is helping the department work on. Both cases seem to be done by the same type of other worlders. Marisol and Costa end up falling for each other (much like Mac and her OWEA agent in the first book). Marisol isn't sure if she wants to be with Costa, because she needs to concentrate on getting her sister back. I love that the author is using paranormal creatures that you don't normally read or hear about. I feel like there are so many of the other detectives that are briefly mentioned that this series could go on for a while, and I hope it does! VERDICT
Loved it! Look forward to more books in this series. A new favorite.
Hmm….A Succubus and a Salamander? Sounds like we’re in for hot loving.
Another good read…I enjoy the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency Series, and have my fingers crossed hoping there are many more to come. Filled with drama, mystery, kidnapping, and devious evil plots Succubus Lost is a win!
Marisol, an Agent of the OEA, a Succubus, becomes quite concerned when her younger sister, Elaine, doesn’t come home after a study date. Knowing Elaine’s history, she pushes the OEA to start looking for her now, rather than wait the requisite time to declare a missing person. Costa comes onto the scene to assist with the investigation, and Marisol learns that this is more than a one off case. Costa has him own prejudices and issues with Succubi due to a past incident, and their interactions and attraction are full of delicious tension.
I really enjoyed the end, and was a bit surprised by the outcomes….honestly, I was unsure of the villain. I can imagine plenty of explosives in Costa and Marisol’s future, and I look forward to getting more glimpses of them in future books. Would definitely recommend to those who read the first book, Banshee Charmer (these books are stand alone, so don’t worry if you haven’t, though I may I suggest you read it at your first opportunity!)
This is book #2 in the Files from the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency series from Entangled. The main couple in this in this installment is Marisol (friend of the heroine from the last book) who is a succubus and a detective with the Chicago PD and Valerio Costa who is an agent with the OEA and a salamander. They are on a quest to find Marisol's sister and find the person(s) responsible for kidnapping young succubi and selling them as sex slaves.
I loved the mystery and the chemistry between the two leads. Tiffany Allee really knows how to balance plot and characters. I did figure out pretty early who the villain was, but it was fun to go through the process of finding and bringing said villain to justice. Although the page count is low, the writing is tight and there is no filler. The only problem is the formatting - there needs to be more of a page break between scenes in the same chapter.
A little too slow, but the plot was interesting and I'm still searching for the first book because I like the world that T. Allee has created and I will probably read the other books of the series.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND ENTANGLED PUBLISHING FOR THE PREVIEW
