Nestled in the small village of Ringwood is a peculiar shop that sells the souls of the departed.

In life, Quill never stood up for himself or broke the rules, not even when it really mattered. Now, as the two-hundred-year-old proprietor, he dutifully matches each customer with the perfect soul—so long as they can pay the price and are willing to sign the contract.

When Erin’s soul arrives at the shop, it becomes clear that she’s more than just inventory. Somehow, she’s able to maintain a connection to the living world. Quill takes Erin on as his apprentice, hoping to understand her mysterious abilities. But digging too deep will mean breaking the rules, and if The Boss finds out, someone’s going to pay with their very soul.

Will Quill be able to do what he never could in life, or will he stay forever bound by the rules that have always restrained him?

Literally read this book in one sitting and that never happens for me so that says it all really.

What a beautiful story, I absolutely loved all the characters and could’ve easily read more from this and would love to hear more about the individual characters stories too.

Will be reading Alma’s story asap 🥹

Thank you to Ben Andrews for providing me with a copy of this book! I voluntarily leave this review!

Around the world, there are exclusive shops that not only peddle mortal wares but also ghosts. Customers are on a need-to-know basis and find the shops only when they need to. Erin's life is taken too soon, as so many are, and she finds herself as another ghost on the merchant's shelf. But the merchant, Quill, can tell she isn't a normal ghost. As they explore her capabilities, they will discover that some rules are meant to be tested. But those that decided to go against the boss, must be prepared to deal with the consequences.

The overall mystery of how the world works, who the boss is, and how ghost merchants came to be is so enticing. The story drops so many hints, allowing the reader to come to their own conclusions. I really hope to see more in this world and what else there is to offer.

Erin is a feisty and determined woman. She makes sure to ask questions and challenge what she doesn't think is right. For someone like Quill, who follows the rules and rarely strays from them, she is quite the challenge. But as they grow to know one another, they will learn valuable lessons from each other. Witnessing two characters at odds, yet growing to understand one another is a beautiful journey. Readers will be able to see from both viewpoints and the growth each undergoes.

Time passing in books is generally done in a way to make the reader conscious of it. And make no mistake, The Ghost Merchant starts chapters with this in mind. But the way the characters and the story progress fully immerse the reader into the concept that time passes differently for ghosts. Whether it is through dialogue or sudden things characters encounter, it all sets up the wonderful experience of time for the reader just like it is for the ghosts.

The Ghost Merchant was a delight to read. The theme of found family remains strong throughout the novel, as well as learning to think outside of the norm. Dealing with the guilt of the past and learning to forgive yourself also plays a large part in this tale. Fans of fantasy and the supernatural should give this a try!

WOW!! Oh what a lush heart felt read!! ♥️ Whilst I was reading this I felt like I was actually being led around the little village of Ringwood and its surrounding countryside, getting to know and observing the characters with my own eyes and ears. I really enjoyed Bens unique take on the afterlife and peoples souls in this story. That afterlife is managed by Quill (a grandad figure) the keeper of souls in his little shop, that is until Erin comes to shake things up - she is a vivacious newbie with an air of mystery about her! What a lush story of learning to embrace change, friendship and a sprinkle of mystery along the way. I really adored Arthur, he so deserves a book of his very own to tell his stories of his several owners over the years, though I did really like what we learnt about him and his life/death. Sooo what else can I say about this adorably cosy urban fantasy - I absolutely freaking LOVED it! It was such a fun story, well paced page turner. Thank you for such a gorgeous piece of work! ♥️

I was immediately intrigued by The Ghost Merchant by Ben Andrews: a cosy little shop tucked away in the quaint village of Ringwood… selling souls? Perfect autumn read vibes right from the start!

I first spotted this on social media and had to check it out. Tried to find it in Waterstones — nope! Self-published, so I grabbed it on Kindle (and treated myself to another book as consolation 😅).

The opening chapters pulled me in. Quill, the melancholic shopkeeper, and the unusual souls of Ringwood are charming and atmospheric. But once the story branched into multiple subplots, it felt rushed and I struggled to stay fully engaged.

For a short story, it’s enjoyable in parts, though I wished for more depth, worldbuilding, and breathing room for the characters. I noticed there’s a novella about Alma, one of the side characters, and I think there’s potential for this world to grow in future instalments.

Overall, The Ghost Merchant is a charming, imaginative concept that didn’t quite live up to its promise for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5

This is a quiet, character-driven urban fantasy with a gently macabre premise. Set around a shop that trades in souls, it follows Quill, an immortal merchant, whose carefully ordered existence is disrupted by a new apprentice and unresolved emotional baggage.
The novel shines in atmosphere and emotional depth, leaning into themes of grief, memory, and redemption rather than action or horror. The cast is likeable and reflective. Erin and Arthur are real highlights. The tone feels cosy despite the supernatural subject matter.
Overall, this is a thoughtful, understated read and classed as a soft urban fantasy and an introspective ghost story. Having read the novella beforehand, this was just the icing on the cake. I am hoping there will be more stories and more characters.

Decided that my current reads weren't interesting enough and dove straight into this one. Such a fast paced and fun read! Wonderful characters with great back stories.

Sometimes I found the story moved a bit too fast for me, and I wished I had some more time with the characters. But all in all a great read that I had a really fun time with! Would recommend if you're into stories about the afterlife, witches, and flawed characters, and especially if you want something that is quick and fun to read.

Absolutely beautiful. I went into this book cold. But what a book absolutely beautifully written. It was the perfect book to pick up when everything feels a bit overwhelming and you just need something cozy to read. The little details and nod to characters is absolutely perfect. I didnt expect to cry but I cried so much at the end. Loved this one

Binge-worthy !

A huge Thankyou to Ben for writing this & sending this my way in return for an honest review !

I really enjoyed this. Such a unique and thought provoking premise that completely captured my attention from the get go.

Whilst there was something niggling at me I couldn’t put my finger on what until the end and it was no real high risk for me to properly concern myself over with in regard to the characters. Yes “the boss” is a threat but I just needed a little more threat 🤭 but that’s just me and tbh I doubt it even makes sense to anyone except me so if you’re reading this- ignore that, I’m not deleting it.

Absolutely loved Arthur ! His story is both awe & sad and I just needed more.

Overall really enjoyed the plot & the character developments. Really enjoyed the different POV & interweaving storylines, added a real sense of depth to the story and the characters.

Will definitely be reading the novella following Alma as she just breaks your heart !

CW: death, implied pedophilia (off page), homophobia/hate crime, suicide, child labor/death, some others

Thank you to the author and IndieVisible for the ARC! “The Ghost Merchant” is available now.

Promising, but I wanted more.

Erin wasn’t exactly planning on dying, so finding herself in a random shop in the afterlife came as a bit of a surprise. The Ghost Merchant sells souls, or at least loans them out for a bit, to whomever needs one and is willing to pay the price. Shopkeeper Quill has been running the store for centuries, but never has he seen a soul as strong as Erin’s. As Erin struggles to adjust to her new afterlife and Quill learns to let go, the shop slowly becomes a place of healing for the two damaged souls.

The only real issue with this book, the one thing I absolutely could not get around, was the lack of solid exposition. Just the tiniest bit more in the direction of ‘hold my hand and explain it like I’m five’ and this could easily have been a 4-star read. Obviously this is entirely personal preference, and many readers will love it just as it is.

This is a book that’s heavy on character growth (compared to being action or plot-driven), and between that aspect and the lighter emphasis on world building and explanations, it gives off an almost cozy vibe. I say ‘almost’ because this is still ultimately a book about death and lingering regrets, so there’s a lot of heavy material in here (which, by nature, somewhat precludes this from being a truly ‘cozy’ story).

That lack of exposition I mentioned lends itself to the story becoming somewhat confusing at times, though not so much that you can’t catch back up if you come to terms with having very few answers. That confusion might be intentional (because, after all, nobody truly has all the answers about what happens after we die), but it’s not a personal favorite in terms of narrative structure. The verb tense also had a tendency to shift between past and present, and I’m not sure if that was intentional or if it was just a change that hadn't been fully edited back out yet. On the one hand it might be an interesting way to pull the story between ‘this happened before’ and ‘this idea is eternal and ongoing,’ but on the other I found it to be a little jarring and unexpected, which pulled me out of the flow of the story. It’s not a bad idea if it was on purpose, but it could have used a little smoothing out.

This wasn’t an unenjoyable story by any means, it just didn’t hit the right combination of vibes for me. For the right audience, though, I think this could be a solid choice. It definitely delivers on the bittersweet feels and a more contemporary/urban paranormal fantasy setting.

I really enjoyed The Ghost Merchant! The drama and pacing were fantastic! Ben has such a knack for keeping the story moving with just enough mystery to keep me hooked and constantly wondering, what’s next? He’s a master at trickling out the right pieces of the puzzle at the perfect time, so you never feel like you’re waiting too long, but also never have it all handed to you at once.

The characters were a highlight for me. I loved learning more about their stories and seeing their relationships evolve. Arthur was definitely my favorite! (Whaaa Ben wrote a man who wasn’t terrible and insufferable?!?!) Haha he was a wonderfully written character and the little twist about his past!! 👀 girl I was speechless 😶 Erin’s arc was super interesting too, though I have to admit I got a little tripped up on the ghost/magic system. There were moments where I found myself going, wait, they can do that? and just kind of shrugged and kept reading. It wasn’t a dealbreaker at all, but especially with Erin’s heritage and background becoming such a big part of her story, I would have liked a little more clarity on how the whole witches/magic/soul thing works in this world. What was explained didn’t really give me the knowledge I felt I needed to actually GET why some stuff was possible and why it wasn’t. I don’t know, overall I did find the fantasy aspects a bit confusing because of that but accept that the fantasy is supposed to be cozy more so then detailed.

That said, the story is so character-focused that it didn’t really detract from my overall experience. At the end of the day, it’s about people learning to trust each other, growing through their trauma, and finding acceptance, and those themes came through beautifully. The ending was bittersweet in the best way, and I finished the book feeling satisfied, even if a little sad. If you like character-driven stories with emotional depth, subtle metaphors for acceptance and loss, and a touch of mystery to keep you turning the pages, I definitely recommend The Ghost Merchant! 💖

“Welcome to The Ghost Merchant, where we sell whatever your mind and heart desires.”

No matter how many years passed, people stayed the same. Always arrive full of doubt, never quite trusting the service.

There’s something quietly luminous about The Ghost Merchant by Ben Andrews. It's a story that feels both whimsical and mournful, yet surprisingly cozy and quick to read. The story follows Quill Darlington, a centuries-old shopkeeper who sells souls in a cozy little shop, and Erin, the recently departed young woman who disrupts his once-familiar duty, plus a slew of other cast members who pass through the shop for one reason or another.

At its heart, this is a story about people learning how to live again, even those who have signed contracts and agreed to pay the shop's costly price. And Quill, our MMC, is all routine and restraint, the sort of person who’s spent centuries obeying rules. Erin, by contrast, is chaos, a newly arrived soul who just can't follow the quiet order of the shop. Their dynamic is the book’s emotional core, and it works beautifully. Where The Ghost Merchant truly shines is in its atmosphere. The passing of time, the stories of spirits like Arthur, the lore of other merchants and those that come in ready to pay the price... all excellently done. If there's one critique, however, it's that I would have enjoyed spending more time soaking in the worldbuilding. Some chapters move so fast that there's not quite enough room to breathe in the lushness of the world and its characters, and there are a few I would have loved spending more time with. That said, I also think the mystery is partly the point, as the story, though about death, is all about life and its trials, tribulations, and unanswered questions. And the cozy vibes really do more than compensate for that personal preference point.

All in all, this is a cozy and bittersweet story for those who love character-driven paranormal fantasy books. It's a quick read and totally a worthy TBR add!

I just finished The Ghost Merchant by Ben Andrews, and it was such a cozy, magical read that I would give 3.5 stars. This urban fantasy has the perfect balance of heart, mystery, and just a touch of spookiness. The story follows Quill, a ghost merchant who’s a bit down on his luck, and Erin, who gets tangled up in his world of spirits. Together, they navigate a world where ghosts are bought, sold, and sometimes even kept—which sounds way darker than it is, thanks to the charm of the characters and the way the author approaches it.

I absolutely loved the found family aspect of the book—Quill and Erin’s relationship was so endearing. They’re both quirky and damaged in their own ways, and watching them build a bond was really heartwarming. I was rooting for them the whole time, especially as they faced challenges from both supernatural forces and personal demons. The way their friendship developed felt so natural, and by the end, I was really invested in their growth.

The world-building is really fun, too. It’s got ghosts, witches, and is set in a really cosy village called Ringwood. While the stakes aren’t as high as some of the darker, more intense fantasy books I’ve read, this one thrives on its charm and the cozy vibes it gives off. It’s perfect for fans of gentle urban fantasy, where the magic is more about feeling good than being on the edge of your seat.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a feel-good, cosy fantasy that will warm your heart while you’re wrapped up in ghosts and witches.

I had the great honour to read a digital version of this book before it was published. It was against a quick proofread, but I didn't manage to complete it as - sad stuff happened. I lost one of my dogs to sudden illness. Then my job. Then, worst of all, my dad, and my world crumbled.
So here's the timeline: Dog at end of April, dad 15 July, last day at work 31 July.
The Ghost Merchant was published 7 July.
When my world collapsed around me, reading was the only thing that kept me going. And only having a few chapters to go - and preferring print versions to digital ones - I ordered the book. And it arrived today. And the dedication at the beginning? "To all who have lost someone. This story is for you."
As I have been treading the path of deep grief lately with all that entails, that was just so perfect.

The story - wonderfully unexpected, starting out with a vivid description of Erin's accidental death, a description I both believed and felt. As we start the journey of existence somewhere between the living and the dead, with unfinished business that needs to be settled, with how time itself loses all meaning - well, say no more. It's not all sad. There's plenty of humour (the cat is a wonderful character in itself and I now need to get one, if I can convince the husband once the second dog is gone), and to me, being somewhere in the land of hoping that my parents are still around, just in another dimension, it is hopeful.

Sorry about the disjointed and incoherent review. It reflects the messy state of my mind at the moment.

My goodness I can’t say how much I loved this book and how deeply I fell in love with the characters. The author has created a magical world that enables you to laugh and cry along with the characters you will immediately fall in love with.

The Ghost Merchant is a hauntingly lyrical novel that blends the spectral with the deeply human in a way that lingers long after the final page. This isn’t just a ghost story—it’s a meditation on grief, memory, and the invisible weight of loss that we all carry.

Set in a shadowy, atmospheric world where spirits are bought and sold like commodities, the novel introduces us to an enigmatic protagonist—the titular ghost merchant—who deals in more than just the dead. Through his encounters with clients and the souls they bring to his door, the novel explores the complex emotions we attach to those we’ve lost, and the uneasy relationship between holding on and letting go.

What makes The Ghost Merchant stand out is its emotional depth. This is a novel that doesn’t rely on scares or spectacle. Instead, it moves with a slow, deliberate pace, drawing readers into a space of quiet introspection. The themes of forgiveness, remembrance, and what it means to truly let someone go are handled with nuance and empathy.

I highly recommend for fans of literary fantasy, ghost stories with heart, or anyone who has ever felt the ache of absence. Quill, Erin, Arthur and Alma will be with me for a long time.

This has just become a book I will hold in a special place in my heart. It was heartbreakingly exquisite, with not just a story but a journey and experience that broke my heart from the start and had me crying and sobbing in the last 2 chapters.
This is the story of Quill, his shop, and the bartering of souls, his apprentice who changes everything and helps give the old souls within the shop new experiences. It is a story about life, loss, grief, shame, regrets, and holding onto the past with haunting consequences, of how, as humans, we will barter our lives away to get what we want. But also of love, friendship, redemption & hope. The intricate life lessons that Ben has weaved into this stunning book were magical, and it completely stole my heart & soul. I finished it in 2 days & immediately wanted to re read it & experience it again because it was just so beautifully written. This is not just a book. This is a life lesson and experience that your heart and soul will never forget. This is an author I will always buy and read from, as his writing is beautiful, raw, heartbreakingly emotive, unique & so cleverly done. My first 5 star read of 2025. Thank you to Ben Andrews for the Arc copy and the journey I found myself on through this wonderful book. It was an experience I will not forget & and I look forward to re-reading many times over.

The setting of the shop of a Ghost Merchant who matches ghosts up with people who need help in some form. There is a contract though, and there are rules, strictly controlled by The Boss. I was initially quite surprised by how much was revealed quite early in the book (I'm used to slow-burn fantasies), but on reading on discovered that the book contains way more lore, and the book leaves some loose ends as well, so there is still more to discover.

To me this story read like a cozy fantasy; I really liked discovering the characters and getting to know them, and to me this felt more important than the overaching plot. The plot itself wasn't as low-stake as cozy fantasy books are though, and therefore I enjoyed this a lot! I could get the cozy feelings while still having an interesting plot and a new world to discover.

The characters are all very likeable, despite of their flaws. The antogonists felt a bit shallowe, but to be honest I did kind of like that; sometimes bad people are bad people and I don't want to empathize.

Overall it was a great feel-good read, with just the right amount of magic that it might be possible this actually happened for real ;)

I got this spoke as an advanced copy and a really glad that I did.

This was a great fantasy book about a store that basically rents the souls of the departed. These souls can do a variety of things for the person that they are bound to. However, renting one of these souls comes at a high cost and a contract must be signed. Quill manages the store. However the day that Erin walks through the doors he knows that she is different. Taken from the world at a young age, Erin is confused about the role she must now play. Erin has the ability to still be connected to the living world.

The relationship and partnership between Quill and Erin is unique. I found myself emotionally invested in Erin's story and the feelings that she was experiencing. The concept of this story was very unique and it sucked me in from the very first page. This was such a refreshing story because it was so different from some of the other fantasy stories Ive read. I loved being on the journey with Quill and Erin.

I feel that the author Ben Andrews wrote a very compelling and intriguing story. I literally finished this book in a couple of days. After reading this, I am looking forward to reading more books from this author.

4.5 ⭐️ - Rounded up to 5!

Thank you Ben Andrews for the ARC!

I absolutely loved The Ghost Merchant! This cosy fantasy follows Quill, a centuries-old merchant who runs a shop where souls are traded for years of life, and Erin, a newly-deceased girl who unexpectedly becomes his apprentice.

From the start, I was drawn into Erin’s story - there’s something different about her, and uncovering that mystery kept me hooked. The book strikes a perfect balance between warmth and depth, with just enough darkness to ground the story without overwhelming its gentler tone. I appreciated that the heavier themes were handled subtly, which kept the overall vibe heartfelt and comforting.

I especially adored Arthur - his story resonated with me deeply as a queer woman, and his presence added another emotional layer to the narrative. The themes of friendship, love, and self-forgiveness are beautifully woven throughout, making this more than just a whimsical ghost tale.

The characters are rich, the world is intriguing, and the plot moves with a quiet, compelling energy. Though the story wraps up and gives closure, there's plenty of room left for more, and I would happily read more in the future.

Set mostly in the 1990s in the New Forest village of Ringwood, the Ghost Merchant's is a store that trades in souls and has been run by Quill for the last century as a form of penance for mistakes he feels he made in his life. Throughout the story, we meet a variety of the souls being bartered, learn about their pasts, and what they get up to with their buyer. I really enjoyed getting to know all the side characters. It kept the story moving and helped to show Quill's emotional side.

I would definitely recommend reading the prequel, Alma's Story, before this one, although you don't need to, I really felt that it added to the connections between the characters and I felt very emotional reading the conclusion of her part of the story, it was a fitting end for a lovely character.

This was a lovely cosy gothic fantasy with dark witchy vibes and a bit of mystery thrown in. Having grown up in the New Forest, I felt a connection with the eccentric witchy village vibes.

This is an interesting tale of Quill, the keeper of The Ghost Merchant, as he breaks centuries of solitude to take on an apprentice. Erin is a newly-deceased ghost and there's something different about her. Straight away, I was invested in finding out what that was and how it would affect her future.

Although a ghost story touching on darker themes, it gently pushes the need for self-forgiveness and letting friendship and love shine through, doing whats right for more than yourself, so I'd describe this book as a cosy fantasy.

It was a quick read (or listen, I was lucky enough to receive an ARC audiobook) and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys ghost stories with interesting, well-written characters, and a quirky premise for the afterlife. There's scope here for more as some of the details of how/why weren't explored - either with the same shop or another of the Merchant outlets if the author ever wanted to.

The Ghost Merchant to me was a cosy-read with Gothic fantasy undertones. It has a completely unique premise of a shop that sells the souls of the departed - an idea that I absolutely loved and I think was really cleverly portrayed. It's a touching story of absense, found-family, and how life continues even after death - one that you will find will tug on your heartstrings.

As someone local to Ringwood, I found it really endearing to read a story featured there, and it definately gave cosy-Village vibes. If you like Legends and Lattes, I think this read will suit you. It features several characters and develops them nicely. Whereas I think it would have benefitted with perhaps not so many side characters' stories, it wasn't overwhelming and it was sweet to learn what happens to the souls - especially Alma who I read about in the prequel and like Quill have a soft spot for!

I would have liked to learn more about the looming figure of the Boss - the big bad that was talked about but which we didn't really have much interaction with, and I hope, if written, he appears in future novels of this world.

Overall, it was a sweet read that I would recommend people give a go - but deff try the prequel first- it's not essential but it does make you appreciate the characters Quill and Alma a lot more and is a great introduction to the world!

After abandoning a book I was not enjoying I picked up The Ghost Merchant. Thank you so much Ben for allowing me the greatest honour of ARC reading this book. To say I was sucked in and gripped is an understatement. From the very beginning I was sucked into the story and all of the characters. Erin is strong willed, kind and very intelligent. Quill is set in his ways but has a massive heart who carries many burdens and guilt. Arthur is an old soul who just wants to be set free and loved. Allegra is quirky, fun and full of wonders and magic. I was immediately transported to the little village of Ringwood and could picture every building, every sight and every smell as if I was there myself. The story was cosy, felt familiar and was a delightful take on the buying and selling of Souls. My heart broke in places and I was left longing for more of each characters past and present stories. I absoltely fell in love with this book and hope everyone else does too. xx

3.5 My heart is torn between 3 and 4, depending on chapters. This one is hard to rate for me.

Stumbled upon this book while doom-scrolling on Threads. The blurb looked appealing.

It took me a few chapters to get the point of the story, and understand what is a Ghost Merchant. Once this was set, I was intrigued and really wanted to know the end. The characters are endearing. My heart got broken into tiny pieces because of Arthur's story. There are a few characters who felt unnecessary for the story; I'll let you decide for yourself after reading the book. For a compact (270-ish pages) book, there were a lot of things happening, and it felt a bit rushed sometimes.

It's a lovely story, set in a cozy English setting. If you're looking for an intriguing read, pick this one up - you won't be disappointed.

This story revolves around the characters linked to the Ghost Merchants. The ghost merchants is a shop where you can 'rent' a ghost for pretty much anything. And you pay with years of your life or with indentureship of your own ghost when you die.
When Erin dies and arrives at the shop - it is quickly apparent she is not your average ghost. So she is taken on as apprentice to Quinn who currently runs the shop.
This is a cosy fantasy which very mich focuses on the characters, how they deal with death, the trauma of their past and their new relationships. This is a fairly low stakes story so perfect for an easy going read. It reminded me of T J Klunes Under the whispering door - so if you like his books this might be for you

A story about a shop where they sell souls in exchange for years of your life? I have to admit, this is not my typical type of book to read, but I just had to give this a try, and i have absolutely no regrets! I really, really enjoyed reading the story. I think it's very unique (or at least I haven't come across anything similar so far), and it has very cosy fantasy vibes with a sprinkle of trauma. The characters were all so different, from different eras and different back stories, and they were all so lovable and nuanced. My favourite had to be Arthur. He's an absolute sweetheart 😊 I would recommend this book to everyone! An absolute must-read, in my opinion

Thank you for providing me with this ARC to read and review. All opinions are my own and honest!

4.5 stars for SURE

well i fucking loved it!!

this is a book unlike anything i’ve ever read. I came across Ben on his tiktok video where he put the book down & allowed it to sell itself. and BOY did it sell itself!

I absolutely loved Ben’s take on the afterlife. I feel like this book covered some really heavy topics so delicately.

The character growth was some of my favourite in books i’ve read recently, and the fatherly bond between Erin and Quill.

This is such a cosy read, and I am really excited to read Alma’s story.
I absolutely loved the side characters, in particular Alma and Arthur.
I also loved reading Quill’s backstory.

This book had me enjoying every page & was something so different 🤩

Please note I don't use the star system because I'm also an author and it feels weird to star other author's books. Reviews though, are fair game!

**************************

I came into the book already a sucker for afterlife bureaucracy and grim reaper shenanigans ranging from the absurd to awful. And reading it proved to be the sweetest experience I'll likely ever have with curses and karmic soul trafficking. I wasn't able to engage with the story or characters as deeply as I wanted to but when I was done, I was left with an appreciation for the unique premise and the author's intentions.

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5 stars)

The Ghost Merchant was a warm, gentle read with a strong cozy vibe. It’s the kind of story that feels comforting and easy to sink into, with a charming premise and a quiet, atmospheric tone that works well for the genre.

That said, it didn’t quite break new ground for me. While enjoyable, the plot and character beats felt familiar, and I was never truly surprised by where the story went. It’s pleasant rather than memorable — a book I liked spending time with, even if it didn’t linger with me long after.

Overall, a solid 3.5 stars for a cozy, low-stakes read that delivers comfort more than innovation. Perfect if you’re in the mood for something calm and gentle rather than bold or boundary-pushing. ☕👻📚

I loved the character of Erin and the overall story. The author made me feel empathy for her as she finds herself trapped in the afterlife after dying too young. But she learns to make the most of a bad situation and to find some meaning in her afterlife.

I also enjoyed finding out more about Quill, but would have liked to see more of his backstory sooner.

The overall concept reminded me a little of two of my favourite TV Shows - Ghoster Whisperer, and Doll House.

I rate this 4.5, but have rounded it up to 5 stars.
