The Orc Commander and Ella : A Cozy Monster Fantasy Romance
M’ Emotions aren’t weapons I know how to wield. My focus is my squadron, the Blues, and the endless war against the Draenei. Ella stopped that battle, claiming it was the only way to save me. Now we must travel to Rynos, a planet alive with truth and mystery, searching for Kevin—a being who might hold the answers we desperately need. How do I navigate all I feel when there is so much danger around us and I am completely unprepared for it.
I didn’t mean to stop a war, but I couldn’t let M die—not when I love him. Now we’re traveling to Rynos, where the land itself knows our secrets, and M is angry with me. But I'd do it again because he's my love.
The Orc Commander and Ella is a 18,000-word monster fantasy romance about a battle-hardened orc commander, a human writer searching for connection, and a planet that demands they face the truth—even if it destroys them. It’s book three of four filled with tension, steamy moments, and a love story caught in the crossfire of war and destiny.

So. We follow M and Ella after she stopped the battle on Orbe. Ella might have saved M and his squad for now but there will be consequences for both of them. They have 12 knots (don't ask me how long it is I forgot) to find a way to not be 'destroyed'.
They embark for Rynos to seek help or at least counselling from a retired judge from the Multiplicity Federation, Kevin. His planet thrives on being true, hence the Federation failing to sail there. You have to be true to your emotions and not lie, no duality.
I enjoyed this part, though I still find it too short, but I was aware so that's on me.
M accepts more and more to deal with his emotions instead of using the emotions chamber (not like he has a choice once in the ship since there's none but still).
It's nice how well they communicate their feelings to one another. Ella especially since it's new to M. The progress are clear and welcomed. Be it for M or their relationship.
M is in such a situation that he doesn't have a reason to push his emotions aside anymore. And Ella is determined to find a way out of their impending doom.
I had a great time reading this part.
BUT (and now comes the raw feelings and big big spoilers):
WHAT DO YOU MEAN "Up Next: Steph’s Valentine" ?!
WHAT ABOUT THE WAR ? Ok, they bonded, fully, and are now permanent mates — we can check the fated mate box. BUT WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CHANGE THE xxxCOUPLE FOR THE NEXT PART? ARE M AND ELLA GONNA DIE? DO WE LEAVE THEM HERE LIKE THAT?
I feel like the next part is Artur and Steph falling in love and that Artur being in a similar situation as M will help change the tides.
But I was so into the events, the war, the bonding and all... Yeah, it threw me a bit off. Killed the hype a bit?
I'll still be reading it. Because I want to know the end of this 'series' (which to me is one or two books cut in big chapters because of how short a part is and how it feels like the same 'arc' for now. I feel like those 3 parts are a tome 1 and the following part is the first of what could have been a tome 2. Be it because of the length or the feelings the events give off).
Anyway. Good book. The story isn't amazing, but I'm enjoying myself and I'm invested.
Waiting for part 4.

At last.
M and Ella are mate-bonded.
I would pretend this development did not please me, but I have followed M'trinuculo and Ella through three books now. We are beyond such dishonesty.
There is something undeniably comforting about watching these two finally settle into being together. Their relationship has always been the heart of this series, and seeing that bond become something permanent makes this instalment satisfying despite some familiar frustrations.
Unfortunately, one of those frustrations is Ella.
Ella is clever.
Ella is capable.
Ella adapts.
Ella solves problems.
Ella may, at this point, be capable of repairing a damaged starship with a teaspoon while simultaneously negotiating an interplanetary peace treaty.
I exaggerate.
Slightly.
My problem is not that Ella is competent. I like competent humans. My problem is that her competence sometimes leaves M'trinuculo with remarkably little room to be competent himself.
And I want more from him.
He is an Orc Commander. He is powerful, experienced, emotionally constipated and clearly devoted to this woman. There is an interesting male beneath all of that armour, and I wish the story would occasionally step aside and allow him to take control of his own narrative.
Let him solve something.
Let him surprise Ella.
Gods, let the poor orc have a good idea before she does.
The series continues to move quickly, sometimes more quickly than its world-building deserves, but I have accepted something about these books:
They are addictive.
I finish one, identify several things that frustrated me, award three stars...
...and immediately want the next one.
There are worse crimes a story can commit than leaving an old orc wanting another chapter.
Verdict: ★★★☆☆
M'trinuculo has found his mate. Now I would very much like him to find his moment.
