Meet Jack, a tracker with a past he’s trying to escape. The first epic book of the Minnesota Kingston series by USA Today bestselling author Susan May Warren.
Her secret blew apart his life—and now she needs his help? If only he could say no…
Ten years should be long enough for Jack to forget the girl-next-door, his kid sister’s bestie and the woman—no, girl—who derailed his life. Now, he sort of likes his loner world as a missing person’s tracker. Well, mostly. But of course, when he returns home for his sister’s wedding, there she is… Nope, not forgotten at all.
Of course Jack the Grump has shown up for his sister’s wedding, and by the way he looks at Harper, um, clearly her sins aren’t forgiven. So what—she’s sooo over her best-friend’s brooding, dark oldest brother. Really.
Then a bridesmaid goes missing.
And sure, Harper is a journalist who knows how to sniff out truth, but the clock is ticking and there’s only one person who can help…Perfect. No problem. She’s not going to fall for her childhood crush again. Promise.
Yes, Jack can admit that Harper’s not the girl he used to call Pigtails anymore. She’s all grown up…but he’s not going to get burned again. Still, what’s a guy going to do?
So, find her missing friend, get the bride down the aisle and ditch town before they find themselves in over their heads…or worse.
Dead.
Jack is a best friend’s brother, childhood crush, grumpy-to sunshine, sweet but sizzly romantic suspense about second chances and finding the family you always wanted…

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.
I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.
I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

Truth be known, I’ll read anything with this author’s name on it. Since falling in love with the Kingston family at Sky King Ranch (Sunrise, Jan. 2022), I’ve been gobbling up Susan May Warren’s novels. I’ve come to love her engaging characters, perfectly paced plots, great social presence (best newsletters ever) and her seemingly continuous release schedule.
The sparks and the witty banter drew me in and I loved the connections between the series. This one benefitted from the multiple POV and different types of conflict, and the second chances/redemption theme, making the hero’s journey so relatable and compelling. I think I’ll always reach for a Warren book because she consistently turns out well-crafted and fascinating characters I feel I’ve met before because they’re so real. Warren doesn’t rely on her plot to make them interesting.
This one ends on a powerful emotional note making readers anxious for Conrad’s story in March!
I was gifted this copy by Sunrise Publishing and JustRead Tours and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Welcome to the Kingston family! I loved jack’s story. And…. This family is related to the Marshalls, so I got to see peeks of what they’re doing since it’s been a bit since I read the Marshalls series. But…. If you are new to Susan may Warren, no worries! You will still enjoy this story. Harper and Jack have a history. A rather embarrassing one. And they’ve tried to steer clear of each other. But with Boo and Oaken getting married, they’re forced to spend time together. There’s action and mystery happening in this story. Penelope has disappeared! Jack is the best Hunter if lost people, and Harper is determined to help find her friend. The answer to what happened here is resolved at the end, but there is another unanswered mystery that carries to the next book. (I’m guessing it will take the entire series to find out what is really going on) I can’t wait to read more!

What an amazing opener to a new series! The author brings back some previous characters as guests of the celebrity wedding that is occurring in this story. The direct tie-in to the previous Alaska Air One series is that the female main character, Boo, from One Last Shot, is the youngest sister of Jack, the hero of this novel. She is also the bride in the wedding that is taking place. But Jack is definitely a book that you could jump right into without reading any of the other stories or series and follow along just fine.
The tension and attraction, along with a painful back story between the two main characters made reading about Jack and Harper working together come alive for me. I really felt for both of them. Ten years earlier, there had been a real connection forming between them that was shattered in a single moment.
This novel had a wonderful mix of an intriguing mystery and missing person search, while also skating along the lines of a best friend’s older brother, forced proximity, age gap, and even a hint of a second chance at romance storyline. It’s a fabulous combination for sure! I loved this story from start to finish and am eager to read the future books in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Welcome to Boo Kingston's family in a whole new branch of Susan May Warren's universe! The Alaska Air One team and a few of the Marshalls show up as minor characters but we're off on all new adventures with a new cast of characters in Jack. It took me a while to get oriented to the new people and figure out how they knew the old ones. At the same time, they feel familiar, because Jack, as the oldest brother, has similar struggles as Fraser and the other of her "oldests." I always learn something and was googling ice house parking to visualize the new location and a culture I'm not familiar with. I'm looking forward to going deeper with this set of siblings and getting to know them all more as the series progresses. It looks like Jack has some cool siblings with interesting jobs! Thanks to the author for allowing me to read an early ebook so I could write an honest review. All opinions are my own!
Jack is only my third Susan May Warren book (I know!), and I can fully say I understand the hype. This story is so compulsively readable. I really enjoyed the second chance romance between Jack and Harper. At first I worried they were going to be too prickly with each other? But then the chemistry hit, and it was just a lot of fun. Both of them have really interesting careers, too. I enjoyed those details.
I also love the family dynamics. The sibling relationships feel so genuine and also made me eager for their stories as well.
The plot! Suffice to say, I had such a hard time stopping after each chapter. Things were twisty but made sense and never felt unrealistic
Also I know her series have a lot of connection and overlap, but I never felt like I was lost or felt disengaged from the story. I appreciate that because she’s written a lot of books, and hi, yes, I’m the one who has only read three of her books. I definitely want to read more and hope to read more of this series especially.
I received an advanced electronic copy of this novel from the publisher. A positive review was not required, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Jack is a captivating blend of romance, suspense, and personal growth. I loved how Susan May Warren skillfully balances Jack and Harper’s complex past with the tension of their present. The changing connection between them is heartwarming and full of grit, making it very difficult to put down.
Jack’s dad shares a powerful truth with Jack: “You were created for the outrageous, overwhelming, wonderful love of heaven. Stop telling yourself what you’re supposed to do and simply let God work in you to do. Then, and only then, will you truly stop searching and satisfy this restless itch. The greatest find is waking up every day to the excitement of seeing what God will do.” These words echo throughout the book, reminding us that true peace and fulfillment come from trust God fully and being confident in His perfect timing.
While the book doesn’t shout about faith, it subtly weaves in themes of forgiveness, purpose, and second chances. Jack certainly has me excited for the next book in the Kingston series. I’m eager to see how the rest of the family’s stories unfold!
I received a digital ARC of this book from JustRead Publicity Tours, LLC. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing and story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
I gotta say, I was confused more often than I wanted to be while reading ‘Jack.’ There are a lot of characters in this book, and even though I've read quite a few of Warren's books, it was still a lot to keep track of, this big cast of previous characters (family & friends), the new brothers AND the various potential murderers… and the mystery 'operative' that writes a few chapters. Perhaps just as difficult, I couldn't always tell who was speaking because there was often no "Jack said" or "he said" after a line of dialogue. This was especially difficult when it was the first line of a new chapter; I had no idea who was speaking. Honestly, this really got in the way of my enjoyment. The romance/attraction between Jack and Harper was... okay. I didn't really feel it, but that could have been because my brain was bogged down in trying to follow the plot line. The podcaster friend's disappearance... say what, huh?? I still don't get it. And the whole huge 5-day-long wedding thing? Not my jam. All in all, not my favorite Warren book.
Once again, we have the treat of a Susan May Warren novel! And what a novel it is!
Jack is on the run, but he doesn’t seem to know it. Instead, he’s a rewardest, or a finder. He’s the one you call when you need someone or something found. Too bad he doesn’t try to find himself.
Harper is a writer looking for her next gig. Her friend’s wedding? Perfect. It’s a wedding filled with glitz and glamour, celebrity and real life heroes. Covering it is the write of a lifetime.
What could go wrong?
Lots. Trust me. It begins with the possible abduction of Harper’s dear friend and fellow bridesmaid. It gets worse from there.
And it will leave you breathless and wanting more. Good news. She has more to come!
Jack is the oldest Kingston sibling, and he’s returned after an extended absence to attend his youngest sister’s wedding. He’s paired with an old flame that left Jack embarrassed and the last thing either Jack or Harper want is to be together. But since this is a romantic suspense, they are thrust together to find a bridesmaid that goes missing. I liked Jack and Harper. They had great chemistry, and readers will want to see them get their happily ever after. If you like stories with family dynamics, you’ll like this novel. Jack carries unnecessary guilt, and his healing through a lot of loving kindness is a joy to experience. Redemption stories are always a top favorite of mine. Harper is a powerful female who has the wits to take care of herself. Still, she doesn’t shun Jack’s protectiveness. I liked that about her. The suspense is good and not over the top. You’ll be guessing until the end about the bad guy’s identity. At least, I was. Finally, the romance is sweet with just the right amount of sizzle to keep readers interested in the couple but crosses no lines. This is a series, so be aware that Warren introduces a few mysteries that aren’t resolved in this story.
Fun, suspenseful read. I just found my suspension of disbelief struggling in the final quarter of the book. (There were some events I felt characters should have reacted differently to) With enjoyable characters and exciting action this was still a good read and I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
Jack by Susan May Warren features the wedding of Boo and Oaken, a couple from a previous novel. While it was nice to catch up with some previous characters, it was nice to be introduced to the new cast of characters for the Kingston series. It takes a while before the action begins. The story begins with Harper coming home and dreading running into Jack, the man who she secretly still loves. Once they meet, then the internal dialogue and feelings between the two really run the story line for the story. While this is a huge part of the story, Warren does put in a kidnapping that drives them together as they hunt for their missing friend. Readers will enjoy reading about the hunt and solving the missing person. However, there is a thread in the story that, I believe, will lead to more of an overarching mystery that readers will need to keep reading the story to learn more about. On the other hand, Warren does a wonderful job at bringing the setting to life. I loved how cold it was and the lodges and family homes that she built and brought to my imagination. I want to take a winter vacation to visit this wonderful landscape up north. Overall, Jack by Susan May Warren is a must read for fans of Warren’s writing who love action and romance mixed into an unforgettable storyline. Readers will anxiously await the next installment in the series. I know that I do.
I received a complimentary copy of Jack by Susan May Warren through Sunrise Publishing and JustRead Tours, but the opinions stated are all my own.
I’ve read quite a few of Warren’s books and really enjoyed them. So it pains me to say I didn’t enjoy this one as much. I didn’t connect with Jack or Harper at all. Their romance didn’t seem genuine to me. Jack continuing to see Harper as his baby sister’s best friend (aka Pigtails) for most of the book didn’t make sense to me considering she was 28yo. I feel like for you to fully enjoy and understand this book, you need to read the series before this one. That’s not something I really like when starting a new series. It almost feels like it’s a new Alaska Air One Rescue book. Also, the parts with Emberly took me out of the story. It didn’t feel like it belonged in this book. I did like the overall mystery of what happened to Penelope. There were a lot of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. If you’ve read and enjoyed Susan May Warren’s previous books, you will probably enjoy this one as well.
*I was sent a complimentary eARC with no expectations for a favorable review.
It’s March and it’s my second SMW series of the year, and third in the space of several months. It’s safe to say this is going to be the year of Susie May for me.
Susan knows how to write family sagas. How to suck you in with heartwarming, complicated and real characters. Jack’s book is familiar in that the struggles he faces are just as the eldest in her last few series. But it differs in that the main characters lives and occupations are so vastly different from her other action suspense novels: a reporter and a guy who finds lost people for rewards.
Susan’s books are like an escape. Once I start you can’t pry the book out of my hands. I enjoyed and am looking forward to the next in the series.
Susan May Warren is back with an exciting new series. Jack kicks off her Minnesota Kingston's series with a bang... In more ways than one! This explosive story is action-packed and hard to resist as SMW brings her signature spunk and charm to introduce fans to a whole new adventure.
Jack Kingson is Bronte 'Boo' Kingston's oldest brother. When he returns to two after traveling the country for years, he isn't sure he's ready to be bad. Seems like the town isn't sure about it either. His arrival sends sparks flying, and then there's Harper. Beautiful, precious, completely off-limits Harper. But what if the last ten years ends differently than he expects. Answers are needed and painful questions must be asked. But will they be able to move forward and beat the clock, before someone winds up dead?
The story is every bit as intriguing and suspenseful as it sounds, and is best going in blind. I did get frustrated with the repeated mentions of vibes though, which are very new age/mystic and don't have any place in a Christian's life (even in fiction), and the characters kept referencing Dirty Dancing, based on the movie. With Oaken and Boo taking the lead roles for their wedding and having the others learn the backup dancers routine. It's supposed to be swoony and attractive, but all I can think of is the fact that it's not the least bit God honoring or biblically inline with how we as Christian's are called to walk out our faith. It's more of a stumbling block, which we are told to avoid at all costs. I've enjoyed SMW's books for years, but it looks like I'm finally going to have to give them up.
Reading this an audiobook was a great choice. The narrators were fantastic and definitely brought so much to the story. They were pure gold!
I really enjoyed this story. The back story and world building was great. This story was a great mix of romance and suspense without being too heavy in either. Jack and Harper had great snarky banter and I loved the progression of their relationship and their individual character arcs as well. I loved learning about their history and how that came into play in their current relationship.
There were a lot of side characters mentioned that I assumed appeared in other books. Now I definitely want to read those stories as well. I loved how the author weaved in the sub plot of Bronte's wedding. I loved the fast-paced nature of this one and I was very intrigued by one side character in particular.
There was so much going on and so much suspense. I was at the edge of my seat most of the time because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The author kept the suspense going throughout. Though I did feel like towards the end things weren't quite wrapped up. There seems to be more to the story. I think I will have to read the next in the series to find out, because now I am hooked! I also did enjoy the faith elements included in the book, but wish they were featured throughout the entire book a bit more.
What a great start to a brand new series! Jack is a tracker for missing people who has a past that has haunted him for ten years, all revolved around Harper. Jack plans on going to his sisters wedding and then plans on hightailing it out of there. This all comes crashing down when a bridesmaid goes missing! Now it is up to Jack and Harper to track down the missing bride before things get deadly!
This is by far one of my favorites by Susan May Warren! The mystery kept me guessing the whole way and the ending was incredible! If you love Christian romantic suspense, and second chance romance, then this book is for you! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series to come!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors. Whenever I hear about a new book of hers coming out, I jump at the chance to grab it and devour it because I know it will be captivating. Her books are full of intrigue, suspense, action, drama, and romance, and they are also packed with amazing life lessons that we can all take to heart. This story introduces us to The Kington Family, a new family group. Jack is the oldest in the family, taking his role very seriously, too seriously for some. Unfortunately, he’s let his past mistakes and thinking to separate him from his family; it takes a wedding to bring him back. The only problem is that the biggest mistake he made in his past, with the one person he can’t get over, will also be at the wedding. Harper is Jack’s little sister's best childhood friend. Now, she’s a grown woman who is very creative and intelligent. Can these two finally put the past to rest and ultimately accept their feelings for each other? I won’t be surprised if this author keeps that action-packed, high-drama intensity going in the coming series. However, I know there will also be tender, sweet moments with many individuals. I enjoyed reading the connections to all of her other characters from past series Susan May Warren has written. It’s constantly fun to reconnect with past characters from her other books. It’s like we know them, and they are family. I think I will continue to apply this disclaimer to all my reviews from now on: I'm at a loss for words to convey the depth of emotions and feelings I get each time I pick up one of Susan May Warren's books. In each of her books, I find incredible life lessons about the love of God, woven in such a way that it is genuine and not fake or pushed. This one also had timeless lessons on marriage. Whatever Ms. Warren writes, I'll read because I know I'll be captivated and blessed in a life-changing way. The publisher gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a fantastic start to a new series. This series is of the Kingston siblings who are related to Boo Kingston from the Alaska Air One series. Jack, the oldest Kingston sibling, and Boo's best friend Harper have a history as something happened ten years ago that caused a rift between them. They encounter each other again as they are in Boo and Oaken's wedding party. Jack carries unnecessary guilt and must learn about forgiveness and stop running from his past. Jack has mystery, suspense, age gap, boy/girl next door, second chances, and forced proximity. The story is fast-paced, exciting, and riveting. I enjoyed seeing familiar faces from Warren's previous series as they show up for Boo and Oaken's wedding. Looking forward to Conrad's story next.
Big brother Jack, the eldest in the large Kingston clan and his sister’s younger best friend, Harper were fun to follow. If you loved Susan’s Christiansen Family series, book one in this newest series has a similar feel. Each member of the family has me so intrigued—Susan does that so well. The sibling banter and tension was superb, another one of this author's signature strengths. Fun cameos popped up in Jack that had me grinning and that Dirty Dancing bit was hilarious. I enjoyed exploring the questions of identity and purpose, and the themes of forgiveness and restoration were well done. I am so excited to see where she takes this new epic family!
Let’s talk about that cover! Those piercing blue eyes had me hooked before I even opened the book—wow! Jack, the first in Susan May Warren’s Minnesota Kingstons series, starts with a bang and had me completely immersed in Jack’s story. Though I’m not fully caught up on all of Warren’s interconnected books, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment. Instead, it made me even more excited to dive into the earlier stories and piece together the character connections.
This book delivered everything I love: an engaging redemption arc, expertly woven story threads hinting at future books, and tropes like age gap, sister’s best friend, and second chances. The characters felt so real and believable, and I loved seeing the Kingston siblings’ dynamic play out. The pacing kept me hooked, and knowing Conrad’s story is next has me counting down the days!
If you love romantic suspense packed with heart, swoony tropes, and a touch of danger, don’t miss this one. Jack and Harper’s grumpy x sunshine, childhood crush dynamic stole the show—and my heart. 💙
Who else is ready for the next Kingston sibling? 🙋♀️
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Susan May Warren never disappoints! This was a fast-paced, exciting, and romantic start to this new series. I loved it and couldn’t read fast enough!
This was such a great second chance romance! Jack and Harper have history. Something that happened ten years ago derailed a potential romance between the two. They’re thrown back together at his sister Boo’s wedding, who is also her best friend. They end up teaming up to find a member of the wedding party who has disappeared. They had amazing chemistry, and I was rooting so hard for them to be able to work past their issues. They were so good together!
There was a lot of suspense and rising tension. There were several times when I wondered how they would get out of a dangerous situation.
Nobody does epic family stories like Susan May Warren! I love the big family dynamic of the Kingstons. I loved how they were there for one another, no matter what.
I loved seeing some familiar faces from some of Warren’s previous books! It was great catching up with them.
If you’re looking for an inspirational romance full of suspense and intrigue, grab a copy of this book. I highly recommend it and can’t wait for the next one!
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
I always look forward to reading Susan May Warren's books. Most of her books have cameo appearances from characters in her former books. Jack is no exception. I also love the way she weaves faith and suspense through her stories. Jack points out the realities of second chances both with people and even more so with God. I look forward to reading the rest of the stories in this new series.
I was given a copy of Jack with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.
Book: Jack Author: Susan May Warren Series: Book 1 in the Minnesota Kingstons series Rating: 4.5/5
I was not ready for all that this story was going to offer. I read the story in one morning because it was that good. I was excited to revisit old friends from other series from the author and I was not disappointed. I loved all of the family dynamics and I do love a story that involves a chosen family. The story is full of fast-paced action and mystery which continues to keep you guessing. As someone who is a fan of the TV show, Tracker, I loved the incorporation of Jack’s occupation as a rewardist. I also enjoyed the second chance at romance which made me root for the couple. The only thing about the story that was different was that the faith thread was not as strong in this story as it usually is in the author’s other stories. I found some great spiritual truths in the story still but it was different. I also loved all the different setups for future stories and cannot wait to read what comes next.
Highly recommend this thrilling story with action, mystery and romance!
My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
It is a delight anytime I read a new Susan May Warren novel, and Jack was no exception! The Kingston's are a wonderful family, and I can't wait to read the rest of the siblings' story. If you haven't already read the Alaska Air One Rescue series, Jack begins after this, with the final preparations for Boo's wedding.
I loved reading Jack and Harper story and seeing glimpses of previous well loved characters. The suspense threads of this story were extremely intriguing and interwoven within the story. Susie pens a brilliant overarching mystrey, which did not take away from this novel.
I received a copy from the author, but I wasn't required to leave a review.
Jack is not the first book I have read written by Susan May Warren and will not be the last. This year was the first time I have read anything by Susan May Warren, and I have fallen in love with all the different series. If you watch the tv show Tracker, then you will like this. An easy read mixed with romance and suspense. Though I am not sure I can wait for the next book in this series to come out. I just want to get to know all of the Kingston family (and I love their names-classic authors names).
The character development is great. I loved getting to know Jack and the reason behind his actions. I loved getting to know Harper as well. And all the other bridal party members. Seeing Jack in action as he finds the missing bridesmaid helps us see a little bit behind the man.
The storyline and setting were great. The King’s Inn is the picture-perfect location for the story. It was the prefect backdrop. The storyline is similar to the show Tracker which we have just started watching so I enjoyed reading this and watching the story unfold.
The rekindling relationship between Jack and Harper is sweet and perfect. Nothing over the top, closed door romance. I appreciate that it was nothing spicy, just a super sweet romance.
Susan May Warren did a great job intertwining faith throughout the book. I always appreciate when the author does a good job on intertwining faith.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
If you've seen the TV show Tracker then you will understand what Jack Kingston does for a living.....he finds people for rewards. All of the Kingston siblings are home for Boo's wedding when one of her bridesmaids, Penelope Piper, goes missing. Harper, Boo's best friend, hires Jack to find her with the condition that she helps him even though he works alone. Working together they learn that they truly do have feelings for each other....now to stay alive to find Penelope and get Boo married. There is a lot of action, suspense, romance, humor, faith, and mystery in this story. Jack is the first in the Minnesota Kingston series and I can't wait to read the other siblings stories.
