My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

“It’s not what happens to us - but how we deal with it.”
This was a spectacular exploration of two broken souls learning to trust and wait, even when it feels impossible.
Doyle Kingston and Tia Pepper arrive in Esperanza, the capital city of Mariposa in the Caribbean, as part of the operating team of Hope House orphanage. Putting the children first while dealing with personal issues, grief, environmental disasters, and gang activity stretches Doyle and Tia … and it may just be what they need. They discover that healing and starting over are just as difficult in paradise as at home, but it causes them to rely less on themselves and more on God.
I appreciated an opportunity to see things as God sees them. The authors point out the danger in seeing God in the here and now and judging his actions against our perspective. Both Doyle and Tia have had their plans upended and struggle with the idea that God needs them to keep going and see his new plan for them. The references to the difference between our plans being changed and God’s will being upheld gave me pause. I liked the encouragement to believe in hope, truth and love even when it feels impossible; “Hang on and pray.” Like Penny, I wasn’t born with “the patience gene” so any reminder to ‘let go and let God’ is good for me.
If you like a pacey survival adventure story, featuring the grace of God and highlighting the enemies to more trope, this one needs to be on your reading list.

Really enjoyed the setting (Caribbean island orphanage) and messages in this one and the plot with the treasure and tunnels and recovering from the death of a fiance. The faith message was well done and woven throughout, not just tacked on the end. I'm finding myself connecting less with the romance in these books these days, like I just can't picture the couple together. Also the stories lead you up to where they start dating and I think I prefer the old romance model where you're taken up to engagement or the wedding. This way, it's like you get to the point where the couple is just starting to consider each other seriously, the beginning of their relationship, so you don't really get to see them as a couple. Also wouldn't there be an age gap where Tia is a lot older than Doyle? but it wasn't mentioned.
I was confused why both of them left the orphanage at the end without warning - who's in charge of the kids? If it said, I missed it, but their sudden departure didn't seem good for the kids. I think it has to do with the story covering so many things without enough space to develop them fully but it keeps the action tight and the pages turning so that's the trade off.
Questions aside, this is one of my favorites in the series so far. Thanks to the author for providing an ecopy so I could write an honest review!

"We can't possibly see the entire picture. So we either turn away, angry and confused... or we trust and wait."
What an incredible, epic adventure! I didn't expect such high-octane action, suspense, and drama involving two heart-broken humanitarian workers as main characters. But within the first few pages of the book, Doyle and Tia run into a gang leader who's thirsty for money and power and the plot takes off at lightning speed. Gun fights, fire, kidnapping, cave ins, powerful storms at sea - you name it, the book has it.
As impulsive, protective, gut-driven Doyle works as co-director at the Caribbean island's orphanage with organized, rational, powerpoint-loving Tia, they need to work together despite their differences to love and protect the children under their care as well as dodge the angry gang leader and figure out if the rumor of hidden pirate's treasure is real. Doyle's blinding grief and heartbreak were so raw and real, as was his bruised faith. His uncertain period of waiting and feeling lost totally struck a chord. Tia's lack of self-worth and need to prove herself worked against her and got her in trouble more than once but her journey to faith and true understanding of who she is was gratifying. And for those Susan May Warren fans out there, you'll see plenty of cameo appearances from some of your favorite covert intelligence, SAR, and Red Cross characters from previous books here.
I absolutely loved the continued subplot between Steinbeck and Emberly. I expect their story to be an explosive one, as Black Swans face Stein's boss Declan in a perceived war for control of a powerful AI program that could feasibly change the world. Doyle was a non-stop action-packed suspense story filled with a treasure hunt, running from the enemy, missing kids, and volcano activity. Doyle and Tia are codirectors at Hope House, an orphanage, in a Caribbean setting. This story deals with grief, the characters' loss of their intendeds, and learning to trust and be patient.

If we had clarity on God’s big plans, we might never follow. But He gives us direction for the next step and asks us to trust Him. That’s where you need to start.
So far during the series, Doyle was the serious brooding brother more in the background.
In this story, we as readers could see there was a lot more to this brooding brother. He stepped up and saved the day when needed, had compassion for others, was driven to find his way back to God’s plan for his life after a huge loss and has a big heart.
Tia wanted to start over after the loss she experienced which we read more about in book two, and sometimes tried too hard to prove herself which landed her in some tricky situations.
I loved going on this adventure with Doyle and Tia. I was never bored with something happening around every corner, if not with Doyle and Tia, with Doyle’s siblings. I really have a lot of questions about one character who might or not be a traitor and I loved all the cameos from some favourite characters from the author’s search and rescue series.
If you love action, danger, adventure, being kept in suspense and love a wonderful spiritual thread which wraps smoothly around the physical story, you should pick up Doyle and give him a chance to capture your heart.

Mission Center. Buried Treasure. Romance peeking. What a ride Susan May Warren puts readers through as they tear through the pages of Doyle. Returning again to the Minnesota Kingston's family, readers will be thrilled at all the adventure and romance. One of my favorite aspects of Warren's stories is the ability to dive deep into the character's hurts and pasts and watching the characters turn to God, knowing that is the only way to really move on with their hurts. Doyle, the hero, runs into Tia, the heroine, and they don't want anything to do with each other at first, but then the story takes off and moves into something deeper. Even though the romance and budding relationship is on the line, the adventure really overtakes the storyline, which I love. Plenty of moments of running from the enemy. Moments of traveling underneath an active volcano while looking for children or the treasure make for an interesting storyline. Warren does bring in past characters, familiar characters, and upcoming characters that are the titles of some of her upcoming novels. Also, I love the setting. Warren does a wonderful job at describing it that I had no problem feeling like I was there with the characters. Overall, Doyle by Susan May Warren is a definite must read for me, and I will definitely be adding to my physical library too.

One of my favorite things about this series is that while there is suspense, action, and romance, the action is more low key. In some romantic suspense books, there is so much going on from multiple sources that the story tests the limits of believability. Yes, bad things are happening, but it all seems possible. I liked Doyle and Tia. There is animosity at first between the two, but as bad things happen, you’ll see Doyle is a great guy. Tia’s and Doyle’s interaction with the children in the orphanage is sweet, and the kids add levity to the story and pull on your heartstrings too. The romance has some sizzle, but nothing questionable. Not everyone likes the sizzle, but if you do, you’ll find Doyle gives you just enough. It’s clean, so it will not be objectionable to most fiction readers. Doyle’s and Tia’s story wraps up nicely, but there is a mystery that continues involving Stein. Stein is the last book in the series, so be prepared to not know how his mystery ends. Because of this thread, I’d recommend reading the books in order.

This was a really good read. I loved traveling to the Island of Mariposa and living the missionary life at an orphanage. I spent a decade (from age 13-23) going to the Dominican Republic one week a year on a medical mission trip. I went to the villages, I helped with kiddos, I scrubbed in one surgeries, and more. We haven’t gone since I gave birth to our first kid and I’ve missed it. It’s definitely my second home. So, this book really took me back and I adored the missionary angle. The orphanage. The medical clinic. Add in some suspense - natural and gang related, a billionaire, a treasure hunt, and we’re off! This is a high paced read that makes us NEED the next books in the series. I settled in and enjoyed these two finding love again and learning to trust God as their good Father. They both lost a fiancé in the past and that’s a unique tragedy that threads through their actions and reactions. I loved our characters and fought with them and questioned things too. (Is our hero Island billionaire a terrorist? Only time will tell, but I’ve already made my decisions.) I’m thrilled to get to continue the series, I just wish it was available now! This was a just kisses romance.

Actual rating: around 3.5 stars
I flew through Jack and Conrad, the first two installments in the Minnesota Kingstons series. But for some reason, my reading experience with the first third of Doyle was like treading through molasses. Which is a shame, as I was incredibly interested in his story. I think part of this was just because of personal circumstances, because once life calmed down and returned to my norm, I blasted through the rest of the book in a day. And I ended up really enjoying Doyle’s story.
There were an awful lot of ellipses and filler words. Neither of which is grammatically incorrect, but after a while it gets really distracting. I know these decisions are supposed to make us feel like we're inside the characters' heads, but it ended up throwing me out of the story more often than not. I wish that Susie's indie books were as rigorously edited as the novels she puts out with Revell. And yet, in spite of my struggle with some of the writing choices, in spite of this particular story taking a while to pull me in, it did exactly that. And it ended up being something truly beautiful by the time it reached its end.
Doyle is trying to start living again after five years of merely going through the motions. He has taken a post as director of a small island orphanage. Or so he thinks, until Tia walks in and announces that she has been appointed his co-director by Declan Stone, the millionaire funding the orphanage. Tia is driven and stubborn and drives Doyle crazy at first. The two seem to be on completely different wavelengths when it comes to how to run the orphanage and what is most important for the kids and the community. But when trouble finds them, the two join forces. Can their partnership grow into something deeper, or will rivalry have the final word?
This is a second chance at love for both Doyle and Tia. Both have lost tragically when it comes to romance. And this treads some difficult, shaky ground regarding those losses and the potential for healing when it comes to the themes. As I don’t want to spoil the journey for other readers, I’ll refrain from digging into those themes in particular. Themes that I can mention are those of feeling forgotten by those who are supposed to love you. Especially God. A lot of time is spent wrestling with the question of why God allows tragedy, especially in the lives of those who seek to live their lives doing His will.
While I initially struggled with this book, I’m so glad I stuck with it. The themes and the faith content resonated deeply with me. The ways Doyle and Tia grappled with the hurt in their respective pasts rang true, as did their growth from that place of wrestling. I’m curious to see where Warren takes the Kingston story from here. On to Austen, the penultimate installment!

A lot of time is spent wrestling with the question of why God allows tragedy, especially in the lives of those who seek to live their lives doing His will.

While I initially struggled with this book, I’m so glad I stuck with it. The themes and the faith content resonated deeply with me. The ways Doyle and Tia grappled with the hurt in their respective pasts rang true, as did their growth from that place of wrestling. I’m curious to see where Warren takes the Kingston story from here. On to Austen, the penultimate installment!

This needs more than 5 stars!!
Another “hold-your-breath-need-to-breathe” action-packed, suspenseful drama by one of the most amazing authors I have ever read!
I have issues with tight, dark spaces. I don’t like to be in deep water because I can’t touch the ground, and I feel like there is so much on top of me.
Well, throughout this whole story, I needed to breathe. It stirred up my fear of tight places and underwater issues because Susan May Warren put her characters through that and more! She has a way of writing that makes you feel like you are right there with them, experiencing all of it.
However, I didn’t want to stop reading because I wanted to ensure they all survived whatever she threw at them.
I mean, really, having to go through a volcano in all those dark, close tunnels and tubes, having to go down into smelly places where anything could jump out at you! NOPE! That’s not what I call fun, but the way Susan May Warren writes is so skilled that I will venture with her characters and battle any bad guys, just to see the good guys win.
I’ve said this before, but I’m going to repeat it:
I’m so glad I’m not one of her characters because of everything she puts them through. WOW! The action is non-stop and jaw-dropping. The action will leave you feeling like you’re right there with each step.
This is why I love all of Susan May Warren’s books and will run to purchase them and read them whenever they come out! All of her books have incredible life lessons of the love of God, woven in such a way that they are real and not fake or forced.
True to all of Susie's books, this one is so amazing, and the imagery is out of this world!

I’m wowed! So much action and love and adventure!
This is an exciting continuation of the series about the Kingston family by Susan May Warren.
This book revolves around Doyle and his adventures, mostly happening on an island in the Caribbean.
Doyle is on a mission, working at an orphanage on this island, and he finds himself loving those kids more and more.
He also finds himself attracted to Tia, who is working at the orphanage, too.
Somehow, they find themselves in the middle of an adventure (as so often happens in a SMW story...!! ;) )
This story involves hidden treasure, diving, underwater secrets, tunnels, an exploding volcano, and so much more!
Full of action and adventure the entire way through!
And....it is the third in the series, and so, the ending is not really an ending, but a cliff hanger for the next book, which I am also looking forward to reading!

Susan's stories never fail to inspire me in my faith. I loved both Doyle and Tia's faith journey-both of them learning to trust God with the next step of their lives, in very different ways.
Doyle, after losing his fiance, felt like he lost his whole life. Seeing him grow to realize that God's call was still alive in his heart was truely inspirational and I loved the way God paved a path for him to where he was supposed to be. I also loved Doyle as a character. The way he loved the kids at the orphanage, his family and the people he worked with, the way he showed up, determined to protect and care for everyone, he is full of many very admirable qualities.
I related to Tia a lot as she struggled with a lack trust out of fear and desire for control. Believing that God doesn't hear you or feeling like you are just getting silence is a hard valley to travel through. I loved seeing how God placed people in Tia's life to show up for her, but also ones that showed her the talent she had and the love she could give. I loved her fire and determination and the back and forth banter with Doyle was a great, humorous add to the story.
I cannot wait to see where Susan takes Declan & Austen and also Steinbeck & Emberly. I love both of their side stories and I'm eager for the next two books of this series!

Doyle’s story from The Minnesota Kingston family is super exciting! He loses his finance on his wedding day, and has to work through the grief by learning to rely on God for his new direction. Tia, his codirector at the orphanage where Doyle goes to help others and find his path back to God is also Penelope sister - who is dating Conrad- Doyle’s brother in book 2. Doyle’s other brother Steinbeck also has a story in this book throughout the book- it is like 2 stories in one!
This book is full of Caribbean adventure from caves to tunnels in mountains to lots of swimming in the ocean. It has bad guys, good guys, and Declan Stone, a billionaire who is the boss of Tia and Doyle at the orphanage. Tia has to learn to trust again and Doyle has to get her to trust him.
Lots of action and adventure throughout the book. It is a book you won’t want to stop reading and once you finish it, you realize that you have to wait a few months for “Austen”to come out to see how everyone is doing. I love how the characters are interwoven throughout all 3 books so far! Susan May Warren is a fantastic writer and knows how to create great story lines with family dynamics in this series of books! It is a great read!

Doyle is book 3 of the series and I think it it my favorite so far! Doyle and Tia are co-directors that are not on the same page as to what is best for Hope House, a home for orphans on a Caribbean island. Each one brings the trauma of loss with them. Each one trying to figure out what/who they are. And life is throwing a whole heap of adventures and misadventures their way as they try to not only provide for the children of Hope House but also battle a local gang that is threatening them. The author, Susan May Warren, is a master of using these adventures and the brokenness of both Doyle and Tia to show not only that they need healing but that God provides that healing, that growth.
A fun aspect of this book, another thing the author is a master at, is that characters from previous books make an appearance. I love revisiting with them. We also get to know Doyle's sister, Austen, and brother Steinbeck a bit more. I am already so excited to read their stories! If you haven't started this series yet, do it! It is so good.

In true Susan May Warren fashion the setting becomes it's own character and throws all sorts of challenges at the growing cast for them navigate. Danger lurks around what seems to be every corner from the landscape to the people.
This tale will take you on an adventure that will have you holding your breath, looking for escape routes, and grinning from ear to ear. I found myself experiencing a range of emotions from joy to uncertainty. Warren cleverly pulls us further in to the Kingston's stories and introduces us to a bit more about Austen and Steinbeck (I love his name) along the way.
I'm enjoying this series and cannot wait for Austen's tale to surface next.

Houston, we have a problem! Doyle by Susan May Warren breaks the reviewing standards because 5 stars isn't nearly enough: I give it ten!
With its location in the Caribbean and descriptions of tropical paradise and beachy foods, Doyle has a very exotic feel. I love the way the vibe of this book transports you to an island - but it's not all sand and surf. Doyle is a total blend of Indiana Jones mashed with James Bond and the sexiness of 'The Notebook' thrown in for good measure, and I'm there for every word. It's the perfect combo of action, romance, and fun.
So Doyle himself and his nemesis-turned-love-interest couldn't be anything but riveting. Warren uses their brokenness to share lessons of deep faith and love in the expert way that only she can. You really don't want to miss Doyle.
Because it doesn't get any better than this. Doyle redefines romantic suspense. The dictionary should now say "Susan May Warren" next to 'romantic suspense.' It's that good.

What can I say, I loved Jack. Conrad melted my heart❤️.
But DOYLE, Doyle made me long to walk more closely with my savior!! What an incredible story! It’s packed with romance, action, adventure and TRUTH!
Susan May has been my favorite author since Happily Ever After with Mona & Joe all those years ago, but here’s the thing that I love the most about her books, its this incredible gift that she has of answering the hard stuff and doing it with such grace and compassion! Of weaving truth, love, hope, forgiveness and joy in Christ throughout her stories! She knows how to impact the heart and always direct you back to Jesus!❤️
This is a must read for anyone who has felt like they have lost the vision that God had given them. So much in this story, you’ll be on the edge of your seat, holding your breath and even wiping a few tears!
Oh and you’re more drawn in and addicted to the Kingston family than ever! OMGOODNESS! Not sure how I’ll survive until Steinbeck is released 😍😍😍

Doyle is packed with excitement including a chance of adoptions, possible pirate treasure, a violent gang, and missing children. There was more than enough to keep my interest level very high as I read this third book in The Minnesota Kingstons series. Doyle Kingston and Tia Pepper are flawed characters both trying very hard to do everything possible for the children in Hope House orphanage. I loved how the Kingston siblings are there for each other. The plot has some twists that really surprised me. I was so sure of who to blame for a major incident and was so wrong. I enjoyed the strong faith aspect of the story. There is a perfect HEA for this couple. I highly recommend this book to readers of clean and Christian romantic suspense.

Danger and suspense from beginning to end! Doyle Kingston and his fiance planned to be missionaries but she was killed on the way to their wedding and he has never recovered. You will be grabbed right in as Doyle and a woman named Tia are co-directors of a children's home on the island of Mariposa where they face danger at every turn. One of my favorite quotes is "If you never have problems, you miss the grace of God showing up". Doyle is part of The Minnesota Kingstons series and can be read independently but will be much better if you read the series. There are so many characters that I had trouble keeping some of them straight. If you like excitement, you don't want to miss this book! Doyle is a very unique character in the world Susan May Warren has created. I mean, he definitely fits right in as the MMC.
But he’s so hollowed out by tragedy and grief that he doesn’t read as a hero right out of the gate.
And Tia isn’t the typical FMC either. She’s just as lost and hollowed out as he is. Don’t misunderstand me—both are strong and well defined and easy to love.
Just…not immediately. As they worked and walked out their faith and calling it’s as if Warren is leading the reader along on the same journey.
And it’s very uncomfortable. But it’s worth the taking. Which all makes for a very different story from one my hands down favorite authors of all time.
And that’s a good thing. And this is a good book. Just be prepared for it to kind of read you back.

Oh Doyle. I have been waiting for your story since, well, forever. And it was well worth the wait. Once again Susan May Warren delivers a high action, fast paced, romantic suspense novel that had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I almost want to say that Doyle is maybe the most mysterious of the Kingstons, which made his story even more enjoyable!
Get ready to hold your seats, bite your nails, and read into all hours of the evening/morning. You will not want to put this book down. Doyle is a hunky hero alright, and his chemistry with Tiana is off the charts. Grab your fans, maybe some water, and get ready for the ride of your life.

Ugh these books!!!! 😩❤️🔥 SO addicting. This story follows Doyle, the “baby” of the family whose heart was broken 5 year ago after his fiancé didn’t show on their wedding… because she died on the way. Now, he’s working at an orphanage in the Caribbean trying to finally move on. Tia Pepper is not happy to be sharing the director position with Doyle (“who thinks with his gut”), but she, too, is trying to move on after her former fiancé was murdered. There’s treasure hunting, gangs stealing essential equipment, earthquakes & almost-drownings & more. & of course a bit of Doyle’s brother Stein’s story… which has its own world of problems & secrets.

IRRESISTIBLE!!!
This was full of adventure I know they are all amazingly good, yet this one might have been my favorite so far. And oh the feels! I'm not big for wanting to feel things but this book just takes you right on their journey! Powerful and inspirational! I learned the difference between asking God to show me what he wants me to do and trusting him. Woah, this book was a life changer for me as I am going through a season of change.
It's amazing - you pick up a Christian suspense book because you want to get away from your own stress and yet it led to such an important lesson that I didn't see coming and fits right in with my life right now!

Being the One . . .
This just blessed my heart so so much!! Yes, the romance and the suspense kept me enthralled and so wrapped up in the story that I didn't want to stop reading! Yes, I love the Kingston family, down to earth people with down to earth struggles! Will Doyle be able to find himself again? Will Tia be able to see her own worth? They have so much history against them. Telling them no.
And this is where this blessed me so much!! Yes He loved you, the One só much that He left the 99!! But do yòù one of the 99 know that You are also Thè One for our Creator! Not forgotten! Not left behind! But the One He loved só much that He gave Himself!

Doyle The Minnesota Kingstons
You need to start this book early because it is definitely a book you do not want to put down. It is full of the usual danger and excitement we have come to love and expect from Ms Warren. Doyle has been offered a chance to work at an orphanage in paradise but he did not know he would have a co director brought in to help him. When Tia arrives they are like fire and ice. Before we get to the end they are needing to depend on each other to stay alive and to keep the children in their charge alive as well. Will they be able to succeed at the task? I recommend you read the book to find out.

An enjoyable installment of the Kingston family!
This one may be my favorite in the series so far. It felt like it had a slower start but once it got going there was plenty of peril and high risk situations to hold my attention.
While I didn't really feel the chemestry between the main characters at first I liked how their unique struggles and paths make them stronger together.
I was really intrigued by the connection to some other characters in the Suzieverse and how they connect to what I assume is the finale of the series.
A fun adventure where the characters discover truths and learn to overcome.

Another home run!
Every book I read by Susan May Warren is the best book I’ve read and I don’t know how another book could be better. But somehow each book is indeed better! I believe it’s the multi-layers that are woven through each book that add the extra magic. Susan makes me feel like I actually know the characters with the rich family and friends history that builds throughout the individual series and then crosses over into yet another series of books. So naturally I wait with bated breath for each new book! And you will too! Don’t hesitate! Dive in and meet your new best friends! You will not regret it!
