Murder? In The Villages?? Preposterous! Thrill to Donald Trump, Donald Duck, God and a host of lesser luminaries in this laugh-out-loud romp.
"Levine has done for the Whodunit what ice cream did for the cone." - Ben Cone
"This is the wildest, funniest murder mystery ever published." - Southern Book Review
"I love Tom Levine's new hilarious book. His inclusion of tv shows, commercials and celebrities from the sixties and seventies is masterful.' - Rick Culbertson, U.S. Supreme Court advocate
As other reviews have said, I also purchased this book from the author at an art festival. Paid $35 for a paperback with less than 200 pages. Author was a character and I was interested in the type of book he put out. This book reads like it was written by a 14 year old boy, not only with the fart jokes, but with how this "story" is all over the place. I thought this was going to be murder mystery, but it was satire about Trump, religion and racism. There was no real story, just a bunch of nonsense put in one book. The excessive use of the n word was off-putting as well.
I bought this from the author at a festival. I wanted to support a local indie writer, but I'm glad I negotiated the price down to $20. It was still too much.
Perhaps if the author didn't try so hard to be clever he could focus on a plot. Characters named "Pocahontas Smith," "jimmy Oldson," "Henry Fondue," and "Ed Asner" are simply distractions. The middle-school-boy fart and sex humor was annoying. No one can accuse the author of cultural or racial sensitivity.
This paragraph on page 17 refers to a group leaving the funeral of a recently deceased Villager. Judge for yourself.
"No dearth of moist eye led the fallen from the stricken area, looking to, no at each other, with not jealously [sic] but deep understanding and empathy. Never competitors for Beasley's favors, they had felt more like a sports team battling the clock. Well into the third quarter, God had taken their balls and gone home."
This is followed by the inscription on his gravestone: "Here Lies Joe Beasley. May he rest in peace of ass."
What...the...fu** is this? I met the author at a local fair, and he was aggressively selling his books. He definitely oversold it. While I love a good indie novel...this was not it. This was some of the grossest, haphazard, nonsensical garbage I've tried to read in a long time. It really needed an editor and honestly just anybody telling this author that writing like that is a bad idea. The gross way he talks about women and sex and how he just left a woman in the yard at night and maybe somebody should check on her was just appalling.
There are random passages throughout that cutaway such as talking about Donald Trump farting in a box and sending the "empty" box to Mitch McConnell.
So yeah, I DNF'd early on. Normally I would pass on a book that maybe I just didn't like but this one I might actually burn. I don't think anyone else should ever be subjected to this.
This was the worst book I’ve ever read. I’m mad I decided to finish it. I like supporting local authors, but I’m going to have to be more selective in the future after getting stuck with this. The author speaks on it as a murder mystery, but when reading it, I imagined this is what losing your mind must feel like. It’s like he wanted to tell multiple weird stories and just threw them together.
