This book gives the "second chance" trope a bad name 😒.

She needed to move on from his cheating ass 🤬

She’s dealing with her terminally ill mother; meanwhile, he’s getting a bj from a random ow- one she walks in on 😑.

Yeah. I don’t care that they were arguing a lot 🙄 not everything in a relationship will be rainbows and butterflies 🤷‍♀️.

He doesn’t even apologize because “iT cHaNgEs NoThInG”
Thanks for letting me know where all the blood in your body goes 🙄

Sigh. Can this scene/trope/nightmare of an occurrence just not exist anymore? 😐

Years pass and the author decides that she’s gonna give them their HEA…

PSSHHH. HEA WHERE?!?
I could never trust him
I could NEVER unsee what I saw

Him getting a bj would be a reoccurring nightmare!!! How TF could I move on from that ish when it would keep replaying in my head 🤬

Where is her spine?!?!?

Let her move on!!!!
To someone else please

There are PLENTY of other “hot” athletes she could’ve hooked up with 🤷‍♀️

Make it make sense 🤦‍♀️

Dnf 63% My mind can’t comprehend how this book is written by the same author who wrote “What are the odds”. How is that even possible? I absolutely adored that book…but this one…😫🤌

Like what went through Madi Leigh’s mind when she decided that her second book ever should contain the cheating trope?

I think her thought process went something like this: “You know what would be great? To write a second chance sports romance where the guy cheats on his girlfriend because they argue a lot, because she isn’t all that interested in his hockey career and because she missed his draft ceremony (or whatever it’s called). Meanwhile, said girlfriend is having a rough time because her mother is terminally ill, and when she decides to finally tell him about it, she catches him with a random girl between his legs, getting a BJ on the same night she comes from her mother’s hospital.
And you know what would be even better? If the hero isn’t even remorseful for his behavior! Yeaaah!🙂‍↕️If he didn’t even try to apologize for his abhorrent behavior because it wouldn’t change anything anyway? So why bother doing it? Better to just ignore her and never contact her again! 🤔Because that’s what a man in love with his girlfriend would do after just cheating on her! Yeah! Totally makes sense!😌🙌”

Well, wouldn’t you say this was a good idea for the book? Because this author certainly thought it was.

Do you know that couple in sports romance, the side couple, the one that is a bit toxic, being constantly on and off, the one hooking up when they are horny, only to give each other the cold shoulder in public? The one that nobody takes seriously and everybody thinks they will eventually split up after college? Well that’s how I saw these two. I couldn’t take them seriously because all they did was have sex! That was their entire shtick. Nothing else was going on between them.

And don’t even get me started on the fmc Riley! 🫨 She was weak and spineless, she lacked self respect and self control! Girl!!! What do you mean you can’t keep your hands off of your cheating ex boyfriend? Not even after you saw him with his d*ck in someone else’s mouth?! No? Be for f*cking real! Ugh excuse my colorful language but I am so annoyed right now… 😒

Ok, rant over!😊

I am sorry for being so brutally honest! I will continue to read the next books in the series though, because I genuinely like this author’s writing and the found family, I just wished this one didn’t have the cheating trope in it!😔

I will not rate this book because for me it doesn't even deserve one star.

I loved Book 1 like it became one of my favourite hockey books and I was looking forward to Book 2.

But!!! I will never ever excuse cheating. There is no justifiable reason out there that makes you cheat on your significant other.

AND WILL IS A CHEATER. RILEY WALKED IN ON HIM GETTING A BJ. YUP YOU READ THAT RIGHT!!!!

It got me riled up, mad and upset. I am so disappointed in this book and I think it will get very low reviews because of that.

Obviously I dnf'd as soon as I got to the cheating part.

I liked the whole book but couldn't understand the reason for cheating....i mean yes the mc cheats on the fc ....i thought the would be a valid reason or she must have misunderstood but no he did cheat on her and i don't think that's valid ...even despite the fact that she didn't come during the draft game or any game of his hockey game for the matter of fact ...i don't get it...if it was during their break or something like they are distant and broke up and the next day he's hooking up with someone makes sense but when they were with each other and he cheats on her that's downright evil ... moreover the fc was in hospital with her sick mom during the time ....I loved the first book...this wasn't it for me because of mc cheating.....i think they can never be a reason for cheating...he could have hooked up or according to him "talk to another person about hockey who understands it "after taking a break with her or something ....

Is Madi Leigh on a quest to write the most unlikable book boyfriends that don’t feel like written by a woman or something?

Because she’s really good at that. This mmc was even more effed up than the previous one, so I’m very much curious what she comes up with next. Is the third guy in the series gonna be abusive? We already have gambling on women and cheating. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

Nothing about this book made sense. I believe the premise had some legs to stand on, when it came to the motivation behind the main characters’ actions, but the execution was awfully off. The secrets were predictable and the reasons behind keeping them hidden were far-fetched at best.

There was NOTHING between the main characters besides their physical chemistry. They didn’t do anything besides sleeping together and when they talked, it was only about their relationship.
No surprise then they never learned the most basic details about each other, despite apparently being in love for a year. Yeah, right. Weird way to spell “lust”.

The heroine had no self-respect whatsoever, since she was almost trying to make it up to the guy for causing him a distress brought about by him cheating on her. I was low-key waiting for her to apologize for being cheated on at some point.

The hero wasn’t much better, since first he cheated on her, then just let her go (and was never planning on apologizing or getting her back) and when they accidentally ended up in each other’s lives again, he was pulling away at every difficult moment and she was left to chase after him. Pathetic.

The author has a very different definition of love than I do, clearly and I’m not buying hers.

The only thing I liked about this book was the banter and the found family vibe between the side characters. It was enough to make me finish this book, not enough to make me enjoy it.

Let me start by saying that the FMC is probably the biggest red flag in the history of red flags. For a woman who claims her ex-boyfriend (MMC) cheated on her, she had absolutely no problem lying and deceiving him throughout their entire relationship. She withheld the fact that her father was his team coach, that she had a stepbrother, and that she avoided her ex-boyfriend’s hockey games because of her unresolved daddy issues.

Speaking of daddy issues, this girl desperately needs therapy. She honestly expected the MMC to throw away his hockey career because of her own baggage.

Here’s the backstory: the FMC’s father (aka the MMC’s team coach) was a professional NHL player. He had a relationship with the stepbrother’s mother and cheated on her with the FMC’s mother while they were all in college. Both women ended up pregnant, and the father abandoned them. He essentially neglected both the FMC and her stepbrother throughout their childhood and teenage years, prioritizing his hockey career over his kids.

The FMC was so scarred by this that her relationship with the MMC three years ago was doomed from the start. They were together for a year, but during that time, the FMC made it clear she didn’t care about the MMC’s hockey career. She never attended his games, never allowed him to talk about hockey, never supported him, and essentially decided their relationship was over the moment he was drafted to a professional NHL team. She believed that anyone who went pro would abandon their family, just like her father did.

The breaking point came when the FMC didn’t show up to the MMC’s draft party. Feeling unsupported in his dreams (rightly so), the MMC assumed their relationship was over. In a drunken moment of weakness, he received a BJ from another woman. The FMC walked in on them, and in her eyes, that was the end of their relationship because she viewed it as cheating.

The rest of the story revolves around the FMC bashing the MMC to everyone she knows, labeling him a cheater, while conveniently ignoring her own failings in the relationship. She never supported his career, withheld crucial information about her life (like her father being his coach or her stepbrother being his rival), and essentially lived a double life while claiming to love him. Honestly, she was terrible to him!

Now, yes, the MMC’s actions were wrong—he did cheat. And it made things even worse when it was revealed that the FMC missed the party because her mother was diagnosed with leukemia. But still, the FMC’s complete lack of communication or transparency was just as bad. She never explained her aversion to hockey, never revealed her family connections, and kept the MMC entirely in the dark. Their entire relationship was built on lies.

Also, I don’t typically read books with cheating tropes—they’re not my thing. And the cheating felt so out of character for the MMC. Everything about him and the way others spoke of him suggested he wasn’t the kind of guy to cheat. The BJ felt like a forced plot device that didn’t add much to the story. The real issue was the FMC and her daddy issues.

Her unresolved trauma made her expect the MMC to choose her over hockey, even though she never explicitly said it. It was clear from her complaints about canceled dates, away games, and his busy schedule that she wanted him to give it all up for her. She completely ignored the fact that relationships require communication and compromise—something she refused to do. She was selfish and unwilling to meet him halfway.

And guess what? When they got back together, she did the same thing again! Instead of starting fresh and being honest, she hid everything from him. The truth only came out when she was admitted to the hospital, and her father, stepbrother, and the MMC all showed up.

So, yeah. Thanks, but no thanks. This was awful.

Because of the FMC and her daddy issues, this story gets 1/5 stars ⭐️

What an absolutely *brilliant* second chance romance!

Will and Riley's story is the perfect example of two people who were undeniably meant for each other but were initially caught at the wrong time. Their relationship is beautifully complicated, filled with moments of heartache, longing, and hope. At times, it was difficult to read, not because it wasn't compelling, but because the emotional depth of their journey really tugged at my heartstrings. It’s a love story that feels both raw and real, with moments that are simultaneously sweet, spicy, and incredibly wholesome.

As a fan of hockey romance, I’m always excited to dive into a new book in the genre, but second chance romances with cheating trope??? Eeeeeek. It’s usually a no. But Madi is an insta-buy author, so here we are. If you can’t handle the redemption then don’t pick up the book bestie.

The premise on second chance romances is often tricky, as it relies on rekindling a connection that was broken, and sometimes it feels hard to believe that the magic can return, or how one character can forgive the other. However, I felt that this book *nailed* it. Madi did an exceptional job of capturing the complexity of their emotions, the growth they've both undergone over time, and the subtle yet undeniable chemistry that still lingers between them.

A highlight was the way the book delved into the characters inner thoughts and feelings. I felt like I was right there with them, experiencing their highs and lows, their doubts, and their moments of clarity. The emotional rollercoaster they go through—especially as they try to reconcile their past with the present—is so well done that I couldn’t help but root for them every step of the way.

In short, this book exceeded my expectations in every way. I loved the characters, their journey, and the way Madi made me feel every single emotion along the way.

If you’re a hockey romance lover, and a fan of second chance love stories—or even if you’re a bit hesitant like I was—trust me, this one will win you over. It’s a beautiful, heartfelt, and unforgettable read.

I wannna cry so bad i was so inlove with the first book. Levi was the reformed f&*k boy and Will seemed cool, but when i heard cheating i was done :(

I dnfed because cheating and not even been remorseful about it then nope nope. That's not love. Will sounds like the guy you leave for a better guy not the one you go back to. This sucks because I love 2nd chance romance, but this one was a HELL no

I have very mixed feelings because I flew through this, enjoyed the happy parts, and I liked most of the characters. But I also hated them, their actions and their justifications for those actions. To enjoy the story, I had to block out the cheating and that only worked partway.

Second chance romances typically have that angst, it’s expected, and you root for the couple because you know maybe they were young and dumb the first time around or it just wasn’t the right time. But it was really hard to root for Will and Riley because I didn’t agree that she should give him another chance. And I truly don’t know how she did. I could go on a whole rant because I could never forget what he did, especially given the other circumstances surrounding that (aka her mom). And for someone saying “I’m not justifying the cheating,” there sure were a TON of justifications.

I loved Will in book one so this was hard to unfortunately see him this way. I did really like Riley though, but I hated that she blamed herself for how much she put blame on herself for how things ended. There was a lot of good times with Grace and Levi though, especially Grace, so those were all good parts!

How the fuck she ended up being the bad guy or the problem is the biggest bullshit I’ve read. He cheated on her - she walked in on him getting a BJ from some chick the same night her mum died (I don’t even care if he didn’t know her mum died that night - whatever the reason of her not being “supportive” doesn’t excuse cheating). She literally didn’t tell him her dad and brother were specific people in his life and somehow that was a worse “betrayal” than him CHEATING. There was no grovel and that whole point was glossed over and forgiven in 2 seconds. Don’t read the book if you don’t like hypocrites because the mmf was written to be this possessive and protective dude yet he does that. Another note - he literally gaslit her into being a problem and made her cry after she got out of the hospital. “Oh I hate it when she cries but I don’t care because I’m going to knowing make her” blah blah blah. Stupid and ridiculous.

˚ ┊✦ ngl i did find this hook such a huge struggle to read i don’t know why this series is high definition of a big aff slow burn i did like characters and the plot just whole writing itself was just so messy 😭

˚ ┊✦ Riley - ngl it took me a while to like Riley I think she was part of the problem to like this book when her pov story was so slow to say she has a lot family drama to deal with going back to Phill-U seeing she’d ex having these old feelings crawling back even though she doesn’t want to admit them why she’s going out with someone else on the hockey team that riles up Will. I found it hard for her to relive the trauma she had with her mother fallen unwell suffering from that loss then dealing with her fathers drama and his sex life aswell can be too much of traumatic experience for her and I felt so bad but I’m glad she has such good friends to help her and Will!

˚┊✦ Will - will … I was excited to see will own pov on the story I did like wills charm and arrogant side to say he still cared for his ex Riley with so much history between them he wanted to protect her heart and herself even if it hurts him seeing her with someone else he still protects her. I love that about him but also can be too much of a toxic start to begin with knowing there every move like let the girl breath for a minute 😭

˚┊✦ romance + plot

The romance was okay ish even though it was so famn hot between them even doing some naughty stuff in public like hello 😭 the writing in this was sort of meh… it took me way too long for my liking to finish this series this was such a definition of a slow burn book for real i liked the premise and the drama just the slow burn writing hit hard this what a person would dnf this series.

of course the coach is always going to be an asshole when it comes to his team love life that’s going to affect their hockey career going to the NHL being drafted can take a huge impact but they all deserve a life off the ice aswell not always about training but coach is always stick up in the ass about his daughters relationship than his career like get a grip 😭
I do love that they both fought for their relationship after that whole drama happened to say they had some rocky moments along the way but they are perfect for each other at best!

The plot twist I didn’t expect to see was Lana 🤩 she was the star of this book aswell the hookup GOD DAMN GIRL 🤣😏 due to spoilers not revealing the name but the way I was shooketh when I found out 🤩I really want the third book to be Lana pleaseeee
To say this book series took me way longer to finish I’m glad it is done but sad not being connected to these characters now 😭 I do hope the author brings out the third book 🤭

This book is the second in the series and follows characters from the first book.

This one isn’t as sweet. It’s sad, the characters are more flawed. And the miscommunication continues.

This one made me say less aww and more ugh. Maybe it’s speaking to the 22 year old experience, saying things are hard. Righting wrongs is tough.

If you’re past this point in your life and are looking back, be ready to want to pull people aside and be ready to fight the urge to say, “ok, kids…”

Guys!!!!! 😫😫🤭🤭

Very pleasantly surprised this one was a five star considering Phil-U book 1 was barely a 3 star but OH. MY. GOD.

the second chance romance😍 the tension😍 the PLOT TWISTS😍

10/10 recommend this one (i think its a semi stand alone so you can probably skip book 1 but it is nice to see the character development in book 1).
