well this was a little gem I found on my kindle, nestling there amongst several other slow cooker recipe books, whilst I was looking for a lamb shank slow cooker recipe, but this one had lots of really good recipes! I've cooked a few in the last month and they were all tasty, healthy and the family liked them. So this book is for keeps!
It looks like I've got another 2 slow cooker books but these are boxsets so they will have to wait for a rainy January day!
It's a great book, but it talks about some recipes that aren't in the book. I would have like wedding soup. And some don't have any quantities listed for ingredients. Wasn't thrilled.
Slow Cooker Recipes has lots of information on the different types of slow cookers with advantages and disadvantages to each type. It gives a complete guide on how to care for a slow cooker. Many of the recipes appealed to me and we have used several. The sauce recipes were very interesting although we never cook with an alcoholic beverage in a recipe due to an allergy to yeast. The biggest problem with the book is the formatting on the kindle. It made following the recipes very difficult. Even with this disadvantage, the recipes are varied and many are very good. A second on vegan cooking in the slow cooker is included so it has something for most everyone and offers some new ideas on using a slow cooker.
The formatting is wonky so it's easy to overlook recipes, if you aren't careful.
The recipes are ordinary, the exception is that they've been adjusted for a slow-cooker, which means a couple of the recipes rely on pre-packaged products - a perk for busy cooks or those not knowledgeable in the kitchen but a downside for cooks trying to avoid pre-packaged products.
Haven't tried any of the recipes yet but I did mark a few to try soon. A majority of the recipes seem to be for stews but the handful of desserts at the end of the booklet look promising.
I'm not sure how to rate this book. I haven't tried any of the recipes to know if I like any of them. There are a few I would like to try. I know cooks use alcohol in their cooking, but I'm not a fan of buying it. There are several recipes that call for vodka, wine, and brandy.
I lost my place on my kindle, and went to the front of the book to find my chapter, but there were none. It did have a search function, that let me find my location.
This book is filled with great recipes. There's no need to fret about what is for dinner, easily assemble the ingredients in Crock Pot. Dinner is ready to eat when you get home. My rating of the book was based on the common ingredients and ease of preparation. This one's a winner
This book my hubby loved and I love it to as he wants to make all the recipes all at the same time as they all sound so delicious. So yes I would recommend this book to all my friends and all you cooking lovers this is a must have in any kitchen. My thanks to the author for the pleasure of sharing this book with others.
The review copy I received only has Chapters 2-4 in it, but the recipes in it are interesting and I'll probably be trying a few of them out. The recipes seem straightforward to do and don't use hard to find ingredients (though I had to Google what rutabaga and hominy were, not sure the latter will be easy to find here in the UK)
This book has many excellent results that will make you say why didn't I think of this before. It also goes into the importance of slow cookers and how to use them properly.
I like the tips and the recommended brands. Can't wait to try the recipes.. The ingredients are simple but look like they'll have lot's of great flavor. The Beef bourgeois is going to be my first slow cook meal from this book.
Poorly organized. But it had 2 recipes that I am going to try, and a few ideas that I will use, so 4 instead of 3 stars. Also, it was free from Kindle.
