In a world all but forgotten by the gods, Mila must fight to survive.
Lumen wasn’t the kind of city that people thrived in. In fact, most had to fight to survive every day. But life outside the walls was no longer an option, humans have ravaged the earth beyond recognition so that this society was all that remained.
After an unfortunate incident that lands Mila, and her best friend Wade, in prison, she discovers that the gods aren’t quite as forgotten as she thought… simply, locked away.
Between the angry demigods, her best friend who she’s been in love with for years, and a world crumbling around them, the stakes are higher than ever.
Can Mila find a way to unlock the secrets of this forgotten place, or will she be as lost as the gods?
The Forgotten series is a four book WhyChoose mmfmmmm completed series that includes elements of violence, attempted assault, and other situations consistent with an unforgiving world.
Jarica is an American author. She prefers writing paranormal and fantasy books. When she isn't writing she is playing her xbox with her husband and fellow nerd. She has two crazy boys who make writing a challenge, but one she gladly accepts.
This is a compilation of the five books of The Forgotten Prison. I enjoyed the story but felt there were fairly significant gaps in the plot. Why was Han allowed to remain topside and retain his power? What was the point of imprisoning the four demigods? This apparently was orchestrated by Amouk who was destroyed when the pieces fell into place. It all seemed pretty pointless.
Mila and Wade are a scavenger team. He locates the item via technology and she goes to the site to recover it. They have black market devices that allow them to mentally communicate. Wade also isn’t completely made up of flesh but has mechanical parts to enhance his abilities.
Their customer, Blacke, is later revealed as a demigod named Hanniel (or Han)
Their latest find winds up putting Mila in prison and Wade insures he is also arrested. It’s never explained why but their faces are covered so they can’t speak nor eat solid food. She is eventually selected to be part of a team to act as guards in Eden. Wade volunteers to accompany them. What’s the point of these guards since the four demigods can’t escape and the guards invariably die? Eden turns out to be an abandoned city underneath the island prison. (Did anyone ever live there in the past?)
Most members of the team resent Mila and Wade so the two of them break away. They eventually encounter the four demigods. Said demigods initially think Mila is Gwen, their long lost love, but finally realize that she is an entirely different person.
Box 4 Page 155: ...I accidentally knocked a wooden box onto the floor with a solid thump as it hit the ground. Hoping nothing had broken. I hurried over to pick it up. As soon as my fingertips touched the grain, an odd smell filled my nose. Smoldering metal and brazen lightening ...I wanted to grab it, but my gut was telling me that wouldn’t be a good idea. ...I turned my back on the box and made it to the door. (Aki’s box)
Page 216: “...I took a shower, Aki.” At the nickname, his head snapped up. “Aki? No. Use my full name.” And from that point forward everyone calls him Aki without a murmur of complaint on his part.
Box 1 (Merrick) Page 221: It was a wooden box with odd pieces on the sides. It looked similar to the one I found in a random storage place a few days ago. I snagged it and put it into my bag... Page 250: Opened
Box 2 (Ren) Page 315: (where they first locate Ren’s box in the fireplace chimney) Merrick took the box and carried it back to the fireplace, peeking in then turning to shake his head at us. “That’s not happening. I’ll take it since I’m the only one with magic,” Merrick said, tucking it into his cavernous pockets.
Page 373: “What about the library?...” “...but if anything, we should go back and get Ren’s box.”
Merrick had taken Ren’s box so it shouldn’t still be in the library. Page 425 (Opened)
Box 3 (Emrys) Pages: 449-457 (Opened)
Box 4 (Aki) Page: 553 (Opened)
Finding and opening the boxes seemed to be one of the main objectives of the plot (other than fucking) Was there a reason the boxes had to be opened in a particular order? Each demigod's powers were returned as his box was discovered and opened.
Page 66: ...my white hair and purple eyes, I always dealt with commentary about my appearance... Sure, I could have changed it, but the eyes were natural, and the hair was a personal choice. ...white hair gave me a weird sense of cleanliness that I knew was ridiculous.
So despite all the references to Mila’s white hair, it wasn’t her natural color. No mention is ever made of how she maintains it. Speaking of hair, Wade’s, and later his mother’s, hair is always referred to as copper. The metal? Aki’s is initially hip length and even longer after he’s made a god. Why?
The Titan mermaids chained in the ocean seem like overkill since they’re about the only thing that can survive in the polluted water.
Mila’s mother and the President are dealt with so summarily that it’s hard to believe that they were the masterminds behind the creation of Lumen.
Lastly, the residents of Lumen were told to escape to Eden. All well and good but Eden was part of the prison on an island so how were they supposed to get there?

This was a unique and interesting story! It had a mix of steampunk tech but also had a sort of mythology/god/demigod storyline that kept it grounded in a totally different world. Mila is a blend of snark/sass and naive trustworthiness. In some RH books, the men can become broad caricatures that sort of blend together, but I found each of these men to be unique and intriguing in their own ways. As the story unfolds, more pieces of the puzzle are revealed as the bonds within the group strengthen while the action develops. There are always hints that there is more at play than the characters seem to realize. Watching Mila interact with the men and seeing how they start to grow and change after living in a period of stagnant latency is intriguing. Seeing how Wade interacts with the guys and finds his place in the group as a member of the team and watching as the romantic interest increases with Ren also holds the reader captive. He's a wildcard they also didn't foresee. These 4/5 men may think they know a lot based on their previous history, but they don't know it all. They don’t count on Mila and Wade being their game-changers. The citizens are going to see they’ve been under the bootheel of a corrupt government, and it will be up to the group to restore the balance. The task won’t be able to be completed without facing danger, and not everyone can come out unscathed. For every danger they face, you can feel their love and support of one another and their mission—the good of the people. For as focused on their mission as they may be, they still find time to come together, and those moments of connection, comfort, and peace are not to be missed. I’m sad to say goodbye, but happy to have spent the time with this group.
I pushed through to the end of book 3 but I'd had enough.
My googling didn't come up with which pantheon these gods are meant to be in. I just really kind of lost all respect for them to be honest. They are weak. How could none of them realise Wade was dying???? They kept calling him a wild card, so they saw him and what that was it???
Let's also talk about 80% of book 3 being all about smut. I have never been so turned off. Depending on how you look at it, I got lucky by saving time skipping the lot of it. The plot did not move. The world is in peril, they know the time difference between Dominion and Lumen. The clock has been ticking for some time but oh yes let's see how many samey sex scenes can be written instead.... Sigh....I understand trying to cater for different sexualities but just shoving MM in there for no rhyme or reason doesn't work. These demi gods are centuries old, have never looked at each other in that way but suddenly they are quiet keen to try MM just because of Mila...??? Really....
I always find it concerning when women are the ones pushing their MMCs for MM. Just why???
That cliff hanger made sure I stopped reading. They have their powers, yey, what have they done with them? Nothing. So why would adding more problems help the story in anyway. Also Lumen had disastrous earth quakes didn't it? Why is everything still the same?
Absolutely loved this series! Jarica James kept me gripped the entire time during the adventures of Mila and her guys, I didn't want to put it down! One thing I did really like about this was the attention each relationship got whether between two of the guys or between Mila and a couple of them. They each had great development which sometimes books miss out on if there are a high number of love interests. My favourite is forever torn between Merrick and Aki, loved them in the spicy scenes! The multipov was really intriguing too since we got into the mindset of every character and not just Mila.
The world building really intrigued me and I felt could be something realistic way down the line in the future. The plot kept me gripped and intrigued all the way through and the characters were all well developed down to the relationships and as individuals. I completely recommend this series, you won't be disappointed!
This was my first time reading this series, and I’m so glad I was able to read it all at once. Dystopian is something I enjoy, and I love how these authors built their dystopian society alongside the gods. It made for a great story. I was kept guessing the whole time, never quite sure where we were going but loving every part of the ride. The characters are interesting and well-written. Suki and Jarica are individually great authors, but when they come together, it’s something special, and this story reflects that. It has romance, dystopian society, gods, action, tech, and so much more. This is a series/omnibus that I will read over and over again.
Forgotten is a four book completed series in one book. It is a why choose romance with suspense, action, mystery, and intrigue, and I couldn't have loved it more.
Mila and her men were all terrific. I loved Mila's personality and character traits. I also loved the guys and each of their unique characters. I loved how each of the relationships developed as well.
The storyline, storytelling, plot, pace, and flow of the story were all incredible, as was the writing, characters, character development, and world building. I'd definitely recommend it!
The Forgotten series is easily my top favorite series co written by this author duo so of course the release of the omnibus meant it was time for a reread! Mika is easily one of my favorite FMC’s. This series kept me on edge through all four books with some crazy twists and turns and fast paced action throughout. There is also fantastic character and relationship development between Mila and the five men that surround her, with some of the hottest spice I’ve ever read. I wish I could read this series for the first time all over again, it’s that good!
The closest I can compare these books to is like Divergent with the Hunger Games food problem in District 12
Think about having the Capital as the Uppers, District 6 as the Mids, and District 12 as the Lowers. With the segregation of Divergent in a way but even then this is so different
I enjoyed this series and I liked the view on what could happen in the future in a world controlled by technology
Well I just devoured this boxset allover again. I read this series when it first was released and I loved it even more on my reread. Mila and her Demigods had me swooning , drooling and everything inbetween. This boxset is action packed and will keep you hooked. Amazing five star read that I would definitely recommend.
Ok it's been a while since I read the series and it is in a boxset? That is so good. It's steampunk meets mythology and so much more. I truly enjoyed reading about this world and the men are unique in their own ways. When these authors do a co-write it is never an option to miss out on it. Previously I only got book 1 and I'm now so glad I got to read the whole series! Must must read!
This was such an amazing series! It was so well written and developed, it felt like watching a movie. I really enjoyed the Gods aspect of this series mixed with mortal characters. It also takes on what a mess humanity is and how dependent we are on technology. Mila’s connection with all the guys is one for the ages and it means literally everything in this series.
So good! Any time this author duo releases a book, its a MUST READ for me! The FMC was great to read and I loved her men! The spice was immaculate and I loved how they navigated their relationships.
The idea of putting all four books together was amazing! If you've ever felt the immediate need for a sequel the moment you end a book, this omnibus has you covered.
This has all your books in one place of the series. So you get to read all of them back to back and Milas story will hook you in from the get go. I loved how strong her and her best friend Wade is and the descoveries that she makes along her journey for a better world.
So glad this series has an omnibus so you can read all four books in one place. I adored this series and loved the dystopian and steampunk elements to it. Add a dash of mythology and it was absolutely perfect. Such a great read!
This book had me hooked from start to finish. Loved the story and the characters, the pop culture refs thrown in there and sassy comebacks between Mila and Wade had me laughing throughout.
Forgotten by Jarica James and Suki Williams. This is a four book, complete series all in one. This includes Nexus, Broken, Memory, and Reset. RH, dystopian story. Loved it.
