Zoe Dod delivers an emotionally rich, beautifully written story in The Broken Billionaire. With compelling characters and a deeply relatable emotional core, this book masterfully explores themes of forgiveness, ambition, and the messy, magnetic pull of unfinished love. The chemistry between the leads is electric yet nuanced, allowing readers to feel every spark, hesitation, and stolen glance.
Dod’s prose flows effortlessly, combining heartfelt moments with sensual tension and just the right dash of angst. And Elijah is a perfect mix of power, regret, and tenderness. Fans of second-chance and friends-to-lovers romances will admire it.
Elijah Frazer and Penelope Dawson computer geeks & experts in their field. They reunite after 15 years to solve a problem when someone tries to destroy Frazer Cyber Security. This book is full of secrets and drama combined with great characters and a love story. I don’t want to give anything away so read it. There are two Frazer Family books before this, I recommend reading them in order to get to know the characters & the full story. Loved them, especially this one.
I feel very unsatisfied with the way things ended. With what happened with Zach, Darra, and Lottie. Then Leonard and whatever history he had with the Frazer family. Too many things felt unfinished. Add on Pen and Elijah circling each other, even though both were in relationships. There was a lot to deal with and a lot I found distasteful. I absolutely adore Kris. I think hes amazing. I just wish Pen had been more honest with herself and not dragged a sweet awesome man into her mess. I hope he gets his happy ending. He deserves it. I do love Pen and Elijah as a couple. However, I dont like how it came about. I think there should have been more consequences for Darra and her father. It all felt unfinished big time. All of it bothered me.
Zoe Dod’s The Broken Billionaire delivers a deeply emotional and suspenseful addition to the Frazer Family series, masterfully blending the best friends-to-lovers trope with high-stakes family drama and the warmth of found family.
Emotional Struggle: Best Friends to Lovers Torn Apart
At the heart of the novel is the poignant journey of two best friends whose budding love was shattered by the interference of others. Dod excels at capturing the ache of missed chances and the vulnerability that comes with rekindling a relationship after betrayal and heartbreak. The emotional tension is palpable as the protagonists navigate their way back to each other, wrestling with old wounds and the fear of repeating past mistakes.
Found Family and Heartwarming Bonds
One of the novel’s standout features is its depiction of found family. The Frazer clan isn’t just a backdrop; they’re a lifeline, offering unwavering support and a sense of belonging that grounds the story. The relationship between Lottie and Penelope is especially heartwarming, providing moments of levity and genuine affection that contrast beautifully with the book’s themes of intrigue. Their bond exemplifies the healing power of chosen family, and their scenes together are some of the most touching in the novel.
Suspense: The Frazer Family Under Attack
Adding a gripping edge to the romance is the ongoing threat against the Frazer family. An unknown assailant is determined to destroy their lives, fueling a sense of urgency and danger that keeps the pages turning. This layer of suspense not only raises the stakes for the central couple but also sets up compelling threads for future books in the series, making readers eager to see how the Frazer family will ultimately prevail.
Final Thoughts
The Broken Billionaire is a slow-burn, second-chance romance that balances forbidden feelings, emotional depth, and family loyalty against a backdrop of suspense. Zoe Dod’s writing is engaging, her characters are richly drawn, and the emotional payoff is both satisfying and addictive. This installment cements the Frazer Family series as a must-read for contemporary romance fans who crave both heart and intrigue.
I was not sure about this book at first. It took me a bit to get into it for a couple reasons. The slow burn, it was slow and it was techy. So it took me a bit to really start getting into the story, but once I did I enjoyed it.
Elijah is a handsome and successful billionaire. He is recently divorced and a father to a teenage daughter. His life is turned upside down and since his daughter is going away to her mothers for the summer he is just throwing himself into work. Well, that all gets turned upside down when his work becomes under attack. The only person who can help his is his old best friend and the only woman he ever secretly loved, Pen.
Pen is a self made successful billionaire. She is brilliant and has some tricks up her sleeve. She is set to marry a good friend of her and move to the states in just a few months. She has thrown herself into work and she is ready for marriage and a family. But when her old best friend and a man she loved needs her help, she is there.
Elijah and Pen have grown apart over the years because he felt the need to marry when his ex gf became pregnant. And now Pen is getting married so it’s too late. The two become close again when she helps find out who is attacking his company. The sexual tension is thick! The chemistry is there and the friendship they built all those years ago.
There is some suspense with trying to find out who is attacking the Frazer family. Keeps you guessing and wondering just who it is they can’t trust. I was wrong every time. And some secrets were exposed, I mean BIG ones! My jaw dropped on the floor.
I’m going to be honest, I loved the Donor Billionaire so much that I wasn’t sure how the rest of the series would hold up…. I never should have doubted! The Broken Billionaire actually may be my favorite of the three 🥰
Pen and Elijah have such a slow, long burn to reach their HEA, and every second reading it was so rewarding and fun. Zoe Dod always does such a good job of writing characters that are so familiar and easy to love. Gabriel is forever my fave neuro-divergent MMC, Caleb is the comedic relief, and Elijah is just so NORMAL… it’s refreshing! Her Frazer Billionaire series is everything I wanted Catherina Maura’s Windsor series to be (and I love that series!). When Americans say “eat the rich”, I definitely don’t mean this family :)
You can really see the evolution in her writing as well! The Broken Billionaire has minimal miscommunication but major plot to keep you hooked. The drama isn’t outlandish, but yet is so believable and fun to read while making you fall in love with the characters. I love a good billionaire trope that doesn’t solve the drama with money, either. Just good old fashioned fun, I can’t ask for anything more when trying to escape the reality of our world in a book.
I’m sad Elijah and Pen’s story is over, but I absolutely cannot wait to find out why Kat hates Jax so much in the next book!! Excited to keep following this family to the end :)
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Yang sahabatan dari jaman kuliah. Lama sahabatan eh kena friend zone, saat Elijah nyadar kalo dia suka sm Pen. Eh mantan pacarnya datang bilang kalo dia hamil.
Ujung2nya menjauh, walaupun Pen tetap akrab sm Frazer family. Even jadi godmother nya Lottie.
Untung tunangannya Pen ini paham banget sm Pen, bawaan mereka udah teman lama sebelum jadi lover, jadi gak perlu cerita apa2 dia tahu kalo Pen gak bakalan bahagia.
Gue curiganya Kris ini bakalan jadi nya sm si bungsunya Frazer sibling. soalnya sayang banget sebaek ini gak ada bukunya.
Overall gue suka sih... chemistry Elijah sm Pen benaran kerasa....
I enjoyed this book, I did, but there are a few things that bothered me. Story was enjoyable, love the characters, spice was great, and I would absolutely recommend it to someone who likes contemporary romance. Pen is amazing. Elijah is appropriately broken. Side characters and plot were engaging. It was long but it didn’t feel long.
However . . . It could have been tightened up with another round of editing. Commas seem to have randomly been inserted or omitted.
It seems rather unlikely for the MMC to be unaware of the concept of corporate espionage, when he runs a cyber security company, seems rather unlikely.
The ‘mystery’ is dropped at about 60% for the romance, and picked up again at about 85%. Don’t want to spoil too much, but there were definitely two Plot As rather than A Plot and B Plot, and neither felt fully resolved. It looks like we’ll be getting more of the Frazers so maybe we will learn more.
Overall, it’s a good book that could have been pretty great with a bit more editing. If you can get past that, you’ll enjoy it. You should definitely read the previous books first, though. There are spoilers.
Elijah is a brooding, enigmatic, damaged, and seemingly immune to emotional connection.
Pen is equally strong-willed, compassionate, & damaged in her own way.
Zoe excels at crafting heart-tugging moments where the characters aren’t afraid to confront their personal traumas. Romantic tension and emotional release hit all the right notes.
Elijah’s world is both glamorous and isolating. It’s a compelling setting that highlights how wealth can both protect and imprison someone.
The Elijah and Pen aren’t static; they evolve. They’re more than just tropes—Zoe gives them layered backstories and arcs that make their transformations believable.
Readers who enjoy series like The Kiss Quotient will appreciate the blend of passion, self-discovery, and emotional payoff here.
I loved this story. It’s hard to do the friends to love trope but it’s more unrequited love because of one very awful woman. You find out why they never even kissed in Uni. I have loved Pen since book 1 and I’m so glad I made myself read them in order to see their love story truly build. I can’t wait until Kat and Harper get their own happy endings. They’re the only plot points left unfinished but they don’t feel like cliff hangers. There is one plot mystery that continues to build since book 2 and we get more information on that too. Minus the epilogue as was true with the other books too. I hate being caught up to an author because I need all the stories right this minute. 😍🫣 these are stand alone stories but I second what Zoe recommended, read them in order to truly see the full relationship evolve.
This is book three and features the Frazer brother Elijah. He is very tall like 6 feet 6 inches and has been wronged by so many people and his trust has been broken. Elijah was married to Darra but she had tricked him. The juicy details are revealed in this story. At University, Elijah was a swimmer but things happened which changed his path, but not only from swimming but from his best friend Penelope. Now many years later Elijah is free but what will he do? Will he continue to sulk or will he take that giant leap? There is a happy ending for the main couple plus an epilogue on Kat Frazer and as her story is up next. Let me just say Caleb is one of the best characters; his humor, charm, and personality just work. Read On!
Pen has her life mapped out, her successful computer gaming company is to take back seat to her new life as wife and mother in the USA. Then her uni friend's company is under attach and it needs her skills to untangle the mess. That is not the end, more trouble, more pain as their love reignites. These are two brilliantly portrayed characters that light up each other and the page. Steamy yes, but also a brilliant story that kept me glued to the page. If you love romantic suspense then don't miss this book.
The Broken Billionaire, not just broken, nearly wrecked!!
Elijah's life is a car crash, whilst his divorce is complete his cyber security business is in jeopardy. Pen is starting to move herself to America to join Kristophe before she married him. When Pen receives a phone call from Elijah's brother stating that his business has been compromised, she returns home to help him. Lots of subterfuge and tantalising snippets, also showing how much the Frazer family have each other's backs.
OMG! This was the best of the Fraser’s by far! Intrigue, secrets, twists. To say this is a tangled web is the understatement of the year. Lottie, Elijah’s daughter, is going to need therapy after secrets were revealed but she’s a tough cookie and will be okay. No spoilers just to say you gotta read this book! The first two definitely need to be read first so all the plot twists make sense.
Good things come to those who wait. This author really expresses this throughout the story. Penelope and Elijah are best friends who meet in college and form a bond that stands the test of time. Through turmoil and destruction in their lives they go through a lot to get to their happily ever after and surrounded by family that sticks together through thick or thin. Read and enjoy because you won’t be disappointed.
I liked both Elijah and Pens characters, I also liked their slow burn romance. I have to be honest and say I did find this book a little too techy for my liking. I loved the family group element, as I know the other characters from previous books and this gives everything a warm hug feeling.
To say they have lost time to make up for, well 15 years! there's just the right amount of steamy scenes.
Good read for the holiday season. Characters were solid in portraying all the themes of this book, from betrayal, forgiveness to moving forward and to love ultimately. I like a strongni female lead, Pen was interesting in her honesty and forwardness. Makes me excited for Kat's book next. That cliffhanger about the dad was so good. Love it. Totally recommend it. Just beware there is alot of spice.
A story woven to demonstrate that the heart wants what it wants. True to the saying, what is meant to be will always find a way. Zoe Dod has created a story so relatable, with a strong woman (and many strong female characters) lead simply holding a “broken” man captive with her authenticity and realness. I loved this book and even had to wipe a few tears… Get yourself a copy and indulge!
I didn’t read the first two books of the series, but we get caught up with the interwoven story line easily. I liked the unrequited/second chance love trope that this story follows. I liked the characters enough to want to read the next book. The suspense story like kept my attention more than the steamy parts of the story - I though those a little stilted.
And, fall they do because they have been in love for many, many years. There are problems that they need to overcome, but they do that together instead of each separately. It is a wonderful book with a definite HEA at the end. To paraphrase an old ad line, Read it, you will love it!
Finally these people pulled their heads out of their….
Totally love the entire cast of characters in this series. This installment is Elijah’s turn. He and Pen (Penelope) have been connected since forever. Life threw them some curve balls and kept them apart, till now. Fate and Elijah’s brother Gabriel, stepped in and things get very interesting. It was a suspenseful, emotional and sexy story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Pen has her life planned out, she’s going to settle down and start the family she has always wanted but when fate intervenes and her childhood friend Elijah’s company is faced with a cyber attack Pen is pulled back into a world she thought she was ready to leave.
Pen and Elijah’s story was so well written, the slow burn, the friends to lovers, the found family, the twists and turns, the witty banter and connection between all the characters was the icing on the cake, this whole story was perfect. I had never read a Zoe Dod book before and was unsure what to expect but I immediately fell in love with the characters and the story line. This book was a solid 4.5⭐️ and was a complete joy to read.
Omg, I’ve been waiting for this ARC for so long, and it did not disappoint! I absolutely loved reading about Elijah and Pen — their story was so captivating, entertaining, and truly interesting.😍🫶🏼
Thank you again, BookSirens and Zoe, for this ARC!
Outstanding. Love her writing style, the plot, and the connectedness of the family. Elijah and Pen have been end-game for sooooo long and yet Ms. Dod doesn’t rush to the spicy stuff.
Couldn't put the book down. Another amazing story, love, broken hearts, clever mind main female. A grey grumpy billionaire with a crush. Some spice but their love story kept me hooked.
I have read books 1 through 3 in less than 2 weeks. All the books have been amazing, but this has been my favorite. I feel like I know each character personally. I can't wait for Kat"s story!
This was the third book in the series of the Frazer family. I now have to wait till December for book four to come out. Zoe Dod is a fantastic romance writer! Please read!
This was a good read. It was nice to see another side of Elijah. Caleb and April’s story was my favorite, but I loved how put together Elijah and Penelope’s story came full circle. The author did a good job of flashbacks of their history.
I really love this series, it’s a nice easy read. I’m loving how all the stories are ramping up and turning into a bigger, mysterious picture! If you’re looking for a wholesome read that satisfies the romantic and spice enthusiast, I would really recommend the Fraser Family.
