Laurel Gap Dragons #1

His Dragon Daughters

Rate this book
He never knew he had daughters. She never stopped protecting them. Now fate and fire bring them home.

I came to Laurel Gap to study endangered salamanders, not to dig up the ghosts of my past. Sixteen years ago, I thought Chance wanted nothing to do with me or our unborn children. Turns out his mother lied, and he never even knew about our children. Now he’s back in our lives, all confidence and molten eyes, and my girls want to meet the father I stole from them. I’m terrified they’ll get hurt again, or worse, that I’ll fall for him.

I spent years thinking I was cursed to be alone. Then Tash walked into my bakery, and everything inside me, especially my dragon, roared mine. I want my daughters to know me. I want Tash to trust me. But SkyArc’s been sniffing around, and something tells me this reunion’s about to turn dangerous.

A second-chance, small-town paranormal romance full of heat, heart, and humor. Perfect for fans of shifters, fated mates, and family secrets with bite.

Great second chance romance with the twists what originally separated them was entirely not either of their faults. I loved the characters and there is plenty of action, romance, and humor.

This book was a DNF around the 50% for me. I couldn't put a finger on any particular thing that bugged me, but I also could not get invested in the story.

Despite her name (Tash? Come on. Why not just call her moustache and call it quirky?), the FMC is seemingly decent. She hasn't done much of anything so far but she seems like the author wanted a good motherly character and forgot to build out the rest of her personality much. She does lean toward some wuss tendencies, has a very "oh me oh my oh gosh" feel to her, but hasn't blatantly chosen to be a doormat either. Hopefully she would prove her focal character prowess before the end but 50% of a largish book is too long for me to pay attention when the author hasn't snagged me yet.

The MMC is very stereotypical bro, starting with his name (Chance? Eww. All hi name did was make me get a mama Mia song stuck in my head for no good reason - "take a chance on meeee"). Again, he hasn't done anything that specifically turns me off but he hasn't earned my attention either. Mmmm, actually, he doesn't listen to his dragon. Solid points against him. Trust the dragon.

The side characters are just birds flitting past a window - there, gone, but wait, a feather! They don't add much to the story line with one specific point to Maeve just before I called it quits on this book.

The antagonist plotline is barely tapped when I'm tapping out. It's already shaping up to be a plotline where the main characters lack backbone and drag out their own suffering. I don't want to prolong my own suffering.

One thing that does absolutely bug me is the author's wobbly grasp of random details. Specifically age and timeline of the FMC and MMC is jumpy - they met in school, oh wait college, 17 years ago, oh wait 16 years ago, oh wait Tash graduated at 16, oh wait the twins are 16, but Tash was at a college party 16 years ago? It's like the author forgot that there are numbers beyond 16 & 17.

This was an interesting story bridging the human-mythical being world with a bit of monster hunter thrown in. I enjoyed watching Tash and Chance try navigate their unique situation. I felt some of the challenges were perfectly resolved in a very straight forward way. Still, feelings of love and support of friends family shone through all aspects of the plot. With other characters and unsettled threats mentioned, I anticipate another story in this series soon

I received an ARC and voluntarily am sharing my honest review.

I can’t wait for book 2. I loved ‘His Dragon Daughters’. I found it to be ever changing—drama, action, romance, spice, and humor. The main and supportive characters were likable, even Evan w/all his grumpiness. And even though it seems like Evan and Kira’s might be next, I’m really hoping for a Xavier or Damon and Gerty story soon!

A great mix of family secrets, the coziness of small-town life, and magic. Tash's return home to Laurel Gap to save the salamanders. Chance learns that he has daughters he has never known. Their reunion is tender and charged at once, involving the bonds of protection, the simmering attraction, and the ever-presence of danger lurking just out of reach.

Warm, yet riveting, this second-chance romance is set in a cozy southern town, replete with paranormal elements. It's sure to delight fans of shifters and fated mates.

Huge thanks to Daphne Moore and Lanie Anderson for the ARC copy!

I absolutely love dragons. But I surprisingly haven’t read many dragon books!

This one was great!

Tash, moves to Laurel Gap with her twin girls. She hopes to start a new life there. Also, while there she conducts some research on hellbenders. Secretly hoping to find the one guy that’s evaded her for YEARS.

Chance, works at the dragon bakery. Well, more likes owns it-co owns it with his magical cousin. It just so happens that Tash stumbles upon this tiny town bakery while getting her girls some goodies that they must have. His dragon immediately sets his sites on her.

Little does she know her world will flip upside down, just keep reading to see!

Great world building
I really enjoyed this second chance romance between Chance and Tash, the world building and imagery is great.
This is the first novel by this author duo that I’ve read but I loved the combination of paranormal elements (dragon-shifters, magic etc), danger and suspense, action, excitement, family, humour and heart.
This is full of emotion as Tash, Chance and their twins bond as a family, witty banter, sweetness and steam.
I look forward to book two in this new series.

It's been 17 years, and I never found him. I thought she moved on. I never even got her full name. My girls need safety, confidence, and security. This could rock the boat. It shouldn't be possible, but it is. He wants to see us. Will she let me? It's Fifi and Mere's decision. There's danger everywhere, but I can only hope I can do the best for my daughters.

His Dragon Daughters by Lanie Anderson and Daphne Moore takes us through a journey of reconciliation as Chase learns about his daughters from a one-night stand with Tash 17 years prior. Together, the two plus his extended family come together to fill in the gaps of what the girls have been missing in their lives. With that revealing secrets and hidden dangers that Tash could have never been prepared to handle alone. Conservation efforts, small town drama, evil companies, and secret societies lurking, Tash and Chase will do anything for their daughters and each other.

The novel offers a journey into what happens when the mundane meets the magic that was always there all along. The journey is one of self-discovery throughout the generations. Prose-wise, everything is quite clear to understand. Tash does delve into scientific terms due to her jobs conservation based efforts. Everything gets outlined in a way that is easy to digest. The name swapping may be difficult to digest for newer readers, but it's par the course for the shifter genre and doesn't affect enjoyability when you're used to it.

As for the characters themselves, the book stars our dynamic duo with Tash and Chance, who reunite once more when Tash moves into the area with her 16-year-old daughters, Fifi and Mere.

Tash is an exceptional mother. She completely uprooted her living situation just to give her children peace and tranquility that were denied. She listens to her children's needs at every turn. Flare-ups lead to a no-hesitation response. If her babies are uncomfortable, she will do anything to get them into a situation that is secure. She takes the girls' opinions seriously, even in the case of seeing Chase. She doesn't force them to reconcile; she leaves that decision entirely up to them. Tash will do anything for her girls, even if it could change her whole world in the process.

She is also incredibly intelligent and passionate. She takes her conservationist job extremely seriously and always tries to get precise data. She is carefully observant of situations and patterns, a trait that proves useful many times throughout the story. She is passionate about what she cares about, willing to fight for causes she believes in, even if the odds seem insurmountable.

Chase is a very understanding, patient, and emotional man. Even when he was barely introduced to the idea of being a father, he accepted the change with open arms and a pit of regret. Despite that, he made it a mission to move forward and get in touch with Tash to figure out what he can do for her and the girls. He's never too pushy. He lets the decision solely be Tash's. And when Tash says she'll only do what the girls want and need, he accepts that as well. He maintains the hope in his heart that he can be there for them. The three are always on his mind. And when he's finally let into their lives, he becomes fiercely protective, mirroring Tash in that he will do whatever it takes to keep his family safe.

The sheer amount of pining and yearning these two possess is radiated throughout the novel. The blend of heated spice, along with the classical elements of a slow burn, ties together seamlessly.

Chase can't keep his hands to himself when he realizes Tash is back in his life. Though this scene could be considered jarring because of how early it occurs. But it goes to show the inner depths of how much this man misses her. Pining, desperate, men lovers rejoice.

The second scene could be considered disappointing to some without the full picture. The moment is rather quick without slowing down for a detailed description. The current state of the relationship is reflected in it. The two lost lovers are mourning their prior connection and are desperate to give in to the spark that never truly faded between them. They're not living in the present quite yet, but the feelings are still there.

There is a long, extended absence of these kinds of scenes as Tash and Chase get to know who they are now as individuals and parents. We get a lot more quiet moments of co-parenting and soft romantic dates. The intimate scenes that follow these two later down the line only become much sweeter and more impactful.

The attention to detail goes up during every second as if to reflect their relationship deepening and blossoming into a new form. The passion that was building up and barely held back is no longer denied as they realize how much they mean to each other.

But the final choice to be together isn't made in an act of selfish lust. The twins are the reason why Tash makes her reconciliation official with Chase. The final line of thought to this decision, along with the rest of the details, left me pleasantly surprised about how heavy family-oriented the core themes are.

The title explains it all. Fifi and Mere have a fun and loving sibling relationship. The two rely on each other like they are the only ones who can understand each other in the world. They play, laugh, and bond over their shared circumstances, including their mighty meaty taste in food. They're protective and lean on each other during a crisis. But they always struggled to live in a mundane world that just didn't future. They both face hybrid species issues and magic under the surface, waiting to see the light and run free.

I appreciated how the novel went about showing everything. Vague mentions or minor scenes could have kept Fifi and Mere tied into the plot. Instead, we get to see these issues firsthand and how their origins being revealed helps them heal both mentally and physically. The girls are involved in every integral decision. Lost family connections are renewed for them. All the additional scenes didn't even detract from the importance of their parents' relationship, only giving it credibility.

This new life was the right decision for all of them. We get to see how much Chase cares and yearns for his family and all the lost time. Tash chooses Chase again, as he feels authentic and not a rash choice made on the foundation of memories from a bygone era. The decision is fully informed on present circumstances of how this can be good for her and her children. Their found family is built more on choice and less on supernatural pulls.

The inclusion of the extended family outside of Chase hits the theme home. This entire family loves these girls so much. They both help provide pieces of missing history, as well as guidance and training for the tribulations that come with it. The newfound family life can be dangerous, but at the same time, it fills the missing pieces that the twins never knew were absent. From tutoring to protection, the novel is chock-full of moments that show the importance of family.

Family can also include friendships. Tash's friends Gerty and Beth prove an effective support system during her parental and romantic transition with Chase. In turn, Tash supports them by giving them a safe haven to reach out to during stressful times. They're all extremely supportive in their endeavors without giving too much flak. They trust each other to be there when they need it. They don't undermine or ask too many questions when they don't. In addition to providing silent support when one may not admit they need help or even refuse it due to wanting to protect another. But they still provide the support anyway because they care so much, even at the cost to themselves.

And of course, we can't forget about our animal companions, Lola and Huey. Seeing animals included in a family dynamic is always heartwarming. Lola is our resident sassy princess with some outdoor spice. She's a comforting, stable presence that doesn't bat an eye at any of the supernatural shenanigans happening around her. A comforting presence in the chaos. Huey is our protective guardian dog. He'll go to bat for Tash and the girls even in the most dangerous situations. He's silly and does derpy dog things, but when it counts, he will be there to the very end for comfort or safety.

Overall, Lanie Anderson and Daphne Moore have written a fun, heartfelt ride perfect for the season. A story that will be bound to give you those cozy vibes with a dash of dangerous adventure in between to keep you on the edge of your seat. And this is only just the beginning. Tash's friends have their own adventures to look forward to, as this dragon family only grows further beyond these two love birds. And I can't wait to see what new discoveries and emotions are waiting to be unlocked in the next installment.

Until Next Time,
Lynzee

Review: I thought for the most part this was a very interesting and intriguing read. I liked the setup and that the book was set in the Tennessee Appalachian area. It was so wild to know where all the locations were, because I'm from near that area lol. The book was a shifting and mating book, one that I have not really read before, but I did really enjoy in this book. I also liked that they included the trope of "touch her and die" I thought that worked really well with what was going on at the book. I really enjoyed the world building and the character development. I would really like to see more books set in this world.

However, I did have a couple of issues with the book. I felt that the final fight scene was a bit lacking and could have been better. Also felt that we went a little bit too fast in the end and there are moments throughout the book that feel like the pacing is off here and there.

Verdict: I really loved this book!

Brilliant & Original

WELL WORTH READING ! !
The start of an outstanding new series merging the supernatural with current contemporary reality.

Natasha or Tash to just about everyone who knows her is a single mother to 16 year old twin girls, Fiona (Fifi) and Meredith (Mere) she has a full time job with a government agency and her work revolves around keeping water sources pure and protecting the environment with a focus on Hellbender salamanders. Moving out of the city and going back to the place where it all started, Laurel Gap.

A spectacular tipsy one night that resulted in the twins. She hadn’t even been sure of Chance’s surname but she eventually tracked down and found his mother. She wanted to speak to him about the pregnancy but his mother firmly brushed her off saying it was impossible, her son was’t hear any more besides that he was very definitely infertile. His mother couldn’t really tell her the truth, dragons and humans can’t interbreed.

Chance has been back in Laurel Gap for about a year and one day he sees her walk into his bakery, his dragon insists that she is theirs. Then he hears her talking to his cousin Maeve at the counter about her daughters. Chance’s whole world grinds to a halt. She must have moved on, it was only one night, but her never forgot her. He knows he has to do the right thing and stay away, and he does until he sees them all together and one of the twins is in serious pain. Tash is his and so are the girls.

A fantastic story. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the remaining books.

The true Hallmark experience of fated mates where even the sex gets boring and repetitive after a while. There are no stakes. Grudges are instantly forgiven. Everyone gets along always. When the climax finally hits near the end it's over before it starts. Like wow the bad guys actually didn't pose a treat at all ever maybe we should've done something about it sooner. So much for that bunker and dad dying.
The main characters have no chemistry and practically have the same personality. Sometimes when I started to zone out I forgot whose perspective I was reading from. That's why fated mates can be oh so lame sometimes. They are perfect for each other...why? Because they are both relatively boring and unproblematic.
Also the kids act way younger than 16. Also what is up with the delayed puberty? Weird. I guess suppressing their powers kept that from happening. Maybe that's why they acted several years younger than 16.
Overall inoffensive but honestly not a lot going on. Chance is perfectly respectful all the time despite his dragon being annoying and speaking in fragmented sentences. Tash is strong and independent until she's not. Tash has friends but they do so little she might as well not have any. Chance's family also just kind of exist.
It's cozy fantasy with gratuitous sex. Obviously there is a market for it but that market isn't me.

Also Mere I am SO sorry everyone else gets to be a cool dragon but you....booooo

I had to DNF this book after they found out about the dragons and stuff purely because no one- in my opinion- would react that way.

And yes I’m spoiling and ranting.

And yes I’m aware this is meant to be a cute small town read that’s heartfelt and meaningful but come on!!!

Firstly she forgave his mother wayyyyy too quickly! Like she is the whole reason he didn’t know the girls and she could have done so many other things but I kinda get that they thought humanxdragon babied couldn’t happen so willing to let that go.

But most importantly no mum that loves her kids that much would react that way!!! Like she finds out the dad’s a dragon, her daughter is a dragon and her other daughter is a witch and she’s just fine?!?

This is no hate to the author as I’m sure I’m just having a midnight rant but surely there is some fear from the mum? Or some confusion or at-least some caution?

Like I get there’s a whole bond between Tash and Chance but surely she’d be more forceful in wanting to protect the twins? Or atleast check in a bit more that they’re okay with the chaos that just happened and not immediately move in w him?!?!? ‘Are you okay?’ Doesn’t feel like enough to me!

Anyway maybe im reading too deep into a lighthearted book but I had to DNF it cos the reaction from Tash just doesn’t sit well for me even though I was really excited about the plot

I want to start off by saying that this book is labeled as a spicy paranormal romance, but I definitely felt like it was more of a cozy second chance paranormal romance.
I’m used to a lot of spice, and this one was only one 🌶️ out of five for me.

I also felt like it was extra long & drawn out in some parts, where the less would’ve been better. Having those certain parts drawn out, made it become boring in spots.

But other than that, it’s real heavy on the found family and second chance tropes. I loved that Chance dove right into the father role that he missed out on for 16 years. I didn’t like the fact that his own mother kept the secret from him & then when he found out it was like “okay, wow mom. But it’s a new day” kind of thing. I wanted him to confront her more.

This book was definitely centered more around the teenage twin daughters of Tash & Chance. That’s why I felt it was more of a cozy read. Lots of family time they were making up for with Chance’s side of the family & the girls becoming what they were suppressing for 16 years.

I will say, I love how Tash made the huge decision near the end, to be able to protect her family. She was a strong mother character & I loved that she made the switch not only for her relationship, but for her daughters.

I rate this book a 3.5, but gave it 4 stars since there are no halfsies! 🐉

So, I rounded up, but I feel the book is more like a 3.5 then a 4. The first half of the book really dragged. There was a lot of unnecessary detail about things that didn't seem all that needed for the storyline and we seemed to time jump with no heads-up that we time jumped, sometimes just a little bit of time, sometimes a good deal of time. I honestly almost DNF'ed several times but instead I kept setting it to the side and then coming back to it. It had just enough going for it that I wanted to see how it went.

About 51% of the way in, things finally started it pick up. We got a bit of action, a bit of steam, a bit of background info that made things make a little more sense. From there to about 90% of the book (as that's where it ends and you get a preview of another book) the writing is more 4-5 star material, which is what caused me to round up. They did leave it on a bit of cliffy, so that they can continue the series.

I did enjoy the magic of the dragons but the one thing that was not covered other than "magic" is how Tash was able to conceive if she had no family history of magic or dragons. Though it did add to the daughters storyline of them not knowing what was happening to them as they grew up. Just a little tidbit I wish we had a little more closure on.

Daphne Moore and Lainie Anderson are new to me authors and they have delivered an excellent start to a new series set in a small town where all is not quite as it seems. Care and time has been taken to introduce the reader to this paranormal world and the characters who live there, with upbeat and humorous moments along with elements of suspense as danger looms and family secrets are revealed.

After being away for many years, Tash moves home to Laurel Gap for a work study and reconnects with Chance for whom she has searched over the years as he is the unknowing father of her twin daughters. This is very timely as both girls are having issues with which only Chance and his family can provide the knowledge and protection to overcome.

What ensues is a lovely second chance romance where there are shifters and magic, bad guys, tension, romance with a bit of steam and a HEA.

I was spellbound right from the very first pages and I’m looking forward to spending more time in Laurel Gap as the series progresses with Gerty and Xavier’s story.

I gratefully received an Arc of this story and this is my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book!

Chance & Tash were too cute for words.

After one night at a college party 17 years ago, Chance left Tash with a little more than just some fond memories.

And when Tash heads to Laurel Gap for work but also to help her twin daughters adjust, she realizes that fate has a lot more in store for her.

And it starts at a bakery & ends with running into Chance again, him finding out he has twin daughters, and then the both of them realizing what his mother did.

And her daughters have to adjust to father they didn’t know about & a family history that explained easy too much about how they were both acting.

Throw in some tension from Hunters & this was definitely an interesting book that had me hooked in.

Great job!

This was a decent read.

Likes: not as rushed compared to other shifter books - despite the mate stuff they spent time together, a bit of romance and Tash didn’t immediately get bitten and become a mate, I liked that the kids were older - don’t see that often, Tash had a unique job - hellbenders seem cool, heartwarming family dynamics and strong female characters like Livia and Maeve.

Things I didn’t enjoy as much: the book was a bit too long and dragged in places, their ages were never confirmed and the timeline of when they met was a bit all over the place, the twins kind of took a backseat later in the story, the dragon/witch lore and Hunter story line were interesting but not explored enough.

That being said, one of the better shifter books I’ve read.

Finding your family
Such a great paranormal story full of a gamut of emotions.
There were some fun times, anxious ones, steamy moments, threats/darker elements and a family trying to knit together after being apart for years.
I loved all of the characters with all their flaws and the tender moments.
I definitely enjoyed my time in Laurel Gap spending it with Tash, Chance, Fifi and Mere along with Chance’s family and Tash’s best friends.
Daphne Moore and Lainie Anderson are new to me authors, I loved their storyline and world building and would love to read more books in this series going forward.

His Dragon Daughters is a well put together story. It's a well rounded story. Tash brought her girls to Laurel Gap to start a new life. The story delves into Tash's daughters problems, her job in the new area, and her two best friends. Chance works at the bakery with family and had no idea he's a dad. It's a rich story that goes into details of the bakery, town, their relationship, family and friends. The dragon hunters are in town to cause trouble, which brings alot of excitement to the story. Tash, Chance and their daughters make a great family. It's an awesome story, really enjoyable. Look forward to seeing where the story leads.

Claim her!

They had one night, years ago, but Chance cannot forget her. She walked into his bakery, and his feelings roared to life. His dragon wants her, and so does he…forever!

Tash has more than memories of that night…she has twin daughters. She is back in Laurel Gap with them as part of her job to study Salamanders. She never expected to find her daughter’s father there, and he wants to be part of their lives.

There is a lot of directions this series can go, and all of them would be exciting. Steamy romance and danger with plenty of action make this a good second chance romance. I received a free copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.

adult romance dragon shifters and witches

Tw: one night stands, off-page domestic violence, bad divorce, kidnapping, environmental damage and destruction. Adult explicit consensual scenes - but some are rough.

A good romance story about the results of a one night stand when one person is a dragon shifter and one is human and gets pregnant with twins.
It’s a good flowing story with nice aspects about the ecosystems and environment and has good strong female leads and good examples.

This was a really great small town, second chance romance. Tash left with her girls after being lied to by Chances mom. He didn’t know anything about what his mom had done. But he wants to be a part of his girls lives. This was so heartfelt. This was sweet and I loved the characters. Tash and Chance were amazing. It held just the right amount of emotion, romance, coming together. I just really wish this was longer. I want more lol.

Family is Everything

This storyline really put family in perspective. Loved how two people who spent one night together 16 years before find their second chance. Read this story and join Tash and Chance on this rollercoaster journey. You won’t be disappointed. Action packed, emotional, mystery , family drama and heated chemistry all rolled into a story you can’t put down. Enjoy!

Second Chances Revealed

A one night stand 17 years ago produced twins. After trying to find the father, she went on with her life. Part of that included moving back to where she grew up. He was there, they met and she introduced him to the twins. That's when the story really takes off. I enjoyed this tale of second chances, found family, dangerous situations and the good guys prevailing.

This book was so good I couldn’t put it down. I loved the interactions with the characters and the descriptions of the dragons was amazing. I can’t wait for book 2. I loved chance and Tasha’s blossoming relationship and their chemistry was off the charts. The twins were so funny and Maeve was the best!!!

Tash and Chance get a second chance at romance, and he finds out he's a father. This paranormal, second chance romance has some interesting twists. Although I enjoyed the story, it had some parts where the twists were a bit too twisty. Overall, a good shifter second chance romance and a good start to the Laurel Gap Dragons series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
