Grapevine: A Jackson Trade Story

Rate this book
A Southern Noir Tale of Family, Secrets, and Redemption

Jackson Trade returns to his hometown for the funeral of his estranged brother, Thompson, the last living member of his family. Eight years have passed since Jackson left for Vietnam, and in those years, death, loss, and tragedy have been the family story. Now, standing over his brother’s grave, Jackson is haunted not just by memories of war, but by the ghosts of his family.

With the arrival of a mysterious stranger at the funeral, claiming to have been close to Thompson during his years in San Francisco, Jackson begins to unravel a side of his brother's life that was hidden from him. What follows is a tense journey into the past, as Jackson confronts old acquaintances and long-buried secrets that reveal how little he knew about his brother.

With the help of a photo of his brother and a young man, Jackson dives deep into the dark undercurrents of rural life, where loyalty and betrayal intertwine, and where the truth about his brother’s life will change Jackson’s own.

This is Southern noir that blends family drama with crime fiction, weaving a story of violence, buried secrets, and the search for redemption in the shadows of a small town. Fans of gritty, atmospheric crime novels like No Country for Old Men or Winter’s Bone will find themselves drawn to Jackson’s journey.

Filled with tension, heartbreak, and unforgettable characters, Grapevine explores the cost of loyalty, the weight of the past, and the lengths we go to uncover the truth. Even when it’s buried deeper than a grave.

This is Hardboiled Southern. All. Day. Long.
