Curse the darkness. Or embrace it. There’s no other choice.

Special Agent Emma Last barely survived the psychic attack that tore through her when she drove past her hometown of Salem for a case. At the time, she was chasing a cannibal through a booby-trapped wilderness, but the shadows of Salem have lingered, haunting her every mile.

Now, she’s not just driving past—she’s going back. On purpose.

Emma and two of her closest colleagues arrive to assist with a puzzling crime wave plaguing Salem. Four unrelated arsons, over a dozen muggings, vandalism, carjacking, home invasions. Every crime has been committed by a person with no criminal background. Stranger still, none remember their crimes.

Emma knows something sinister and supernatural is at play. Her late mother’s two best friends each blame the other for using magic to manipulate the people of Salem into acts of violence. But as the attacks escalate to murder, Emma uncovers a chilling truth. One of the women deliberately lured Emma to Salem to kill her.

But which one?

Fighting a threat she can’t see and unsure who she can trust, Emma must find the source of the madness destroying Salem. Before it destroys her.

Last Spell, the twelfth book in the Emma Last FBI series by bestselling author Mary Stone, will make you curse the day you were born. Or wonder if someone else did.

LAST SPELL is the twelfth Installment in Mary Stone's Emma Last FBI Mystery Series. If you are new to the series, you'll discover each investigation and each bad character is unique and the stories are page turners that keep you on the edge of your seat. Let's not forget the occasional ghost helping or hindering the investigations. This installment deals more with the supernatural and less with the FBI than other  installments.

With the closure of their last case  everyone is ordered to take a leave of rest. Positive something is wrong in Salem, Emma, along with Leo and Mia, is going to Salem to find out what is going on. They also plan to look up Emma's mother's two friends hoping Emma can gain more information about her mother, the ghosts and the 'Other'. They may get more than they expected, especially when it comes to the 'Other'.

This is a well written story with plenty of suspense, supernatural, twists and turns. I received a copy of this book from the author and the above is my honest review. I also recommend this book and the entire Emma Last FBI series to those that enjoy thrillers.

Special Agent Emma Last is back again. SA Emma Last, Leo Ambrose and Mia Logan are not on a case, or at least not an official case. Emma needs answers as to what is happening and her friends are there to help her. As Emma steps up to fight whoever is involving 'the other' in her life, safety and friends lives and safety and her friends are there to help her in any way they can. Until the town goes crazy, people hurting other people, fires, danger and a sign pointing them the way someone wants them to go, it may be nefarious. But, where else can they go to get answers.
This can't be the 'Last' of Emma, Leo or Mia. And what about the other agents headed in to assist them?
You need to read this Series, I have loved Emma finding her voice, Leo learning more and Mia backing them up and supporting them.

A lot like a Steven King novel!

That's meant to be a compliment. I do read his books, and this one has all of the components. Eerie, ghostly possessions, unexpected twists. This book is a good one, but with the extent of the extreme, here's hoping she can get back to her regular job of saving ordinary people. It's nice to be able to use her abilities to solve cases, but don't lose the focus of the whole teams effort that goes into solving the crimes. Using her ghostly knowledge for assistance in cases is great. Just let others have some parts of the stories like the previous books before this one. I'm looking forward to seeing what her boss and other friends will have to say about Emma's ghostly knowledge!

Emma is taking some time to get a clear picture of the relationship between her mother and two women with her in an old picture. Mia and Leo have decided to help Emma get to to truth. Meanwhile Salem is going thru some strange troubles. Calm law biding citizens are suddenly attacking folks, screaming and just wreaking havoc. One of the officers in town happens to be one of the ladies the team wants to talk to. The other lady is living way out of town where scary things are happening.
This book keeps you guessing till the end….its fantastic!

What a ride, you won't be able to put this one down til the end. FBI agent Emma Last goes back to her hometown, Salem, to confront the literal ghosts of her past who have been haunting her. Taking 2 of her colleagues for support they arrive in Salem only to find the town is in chaos with murders & strange occurrences happening. Will Emma be able to help or add to the chaos. Meeting her Mother's psychic friends causes more unexplained feelings that may put their lives in danger. You won't be disappointed in this one that will leave you wanting more!

Emma and her two friends/co-workers travel to Salem on some much deserved time off after their last case. They meet one of the two women who were friends with Emma's mother who claims to be her "protector." They meet the other woman who is a detective in Salem. Who are they to believe? All the while, Salem has become a war zone. Neighbors are attacking one another without any memory of doing so. It is a wonderful story and keeps the reader wanting to read more and more to get to the end. Then the end leads to more suspense!!

Too much fantasy!

Emma Last was a great FBI agent... stories about her as an agent with her colleagues would be better. All of the "ghost" and "the Other" ruin the book!

I have read all 12 Emma Last books. They are well written, but I will NOT RECOMMEND them to others, nor will read additional books in the series, should they be written.

I was very disappointed in Mary Stone for going so far "off center" and NOT STICKING to FBI cases and stories!

I have never, so far, written such a negative review for a book.
It was difficult to write this one!

What a fun and mostly scary story Mary Stone has penned for her readers. With her Agent friends, Leo Ambrose and Mia Logan, Special Agent Emma Last returns to her hometown of Salem. The agents must decipher which of Emma’s Mother’s friends are causing chaos and death in Salem. One is Emma’s protector and one wants to destroy her. The writing keeps the reader on pins and needles as the agents sort through this mystery. Twist and turns…edge of your seat…must read!
Paranormal at its best!

This is the 12th book in the Emma Last series by Mary Stone. Emma and 2 of her colleagues go back to Salem to confront the ghosts of her past who have been haunting her.
The town is in mass chaos consisting of murders, fires, explosions and other unexplained happenings. Will Emma and her colleagues be able to co0lve the mystery and stop the chaos? the book is full of twists and turns and suspense and ends with a big question.

It all came together

This was one of the best, in my opinion. All the stories explained in this book, make more sense. The characters melded, the drama keeps you reading and of course there is the finishing cliff hanger. I really was worried toward the end of this story, if the main character was going to come thro. And if her people were going to go off the deep end. No more hints, just read it.

What is happening in Emma’s hometown of Salem? Emma, along with Leo & Mia, are on vacation and headed that way to see what they can do. Plus, Emma is planning on tracking down Monique to get some answers about the Other. However, their isn’t going as planned as they fight to get answers and track down the culprit that’s is turning innocent civilians into murderous zombies.

This was overwhelming at first, but as the story progressed, I enjoyed it immensely . Ema Is in the middle of the chaos and almost loosing her faith in her friends. What she finds at the end is love, faith and for us another cliff hanger. Great thrilling story. I cannot say much without revealing too much. Ema gets some answers.

Ghosts and the FBI, does it get any stranger than that?

Although this book had some good action I parts, I couldn't seem to get real involved with the story, it seemed kind of confusing in parts. I had a hard time trying to figure out what the Other was, I doubt if I will be reading any more of the Emma Last series.

Who done it?

What a great story, with a whole book full of twists and turns! Just about the tim
e you've figured out who the real perpetrator is, something happens to change your mind. Even the ending has a total surprise, especially knowing, finally, who the culprit is. A great read, lots of intense actions and a lot of fun.

gripping terror

At least Emma is not alone in this confrontation between past and present, between hate and love.

Emma, Mia and Leo return to Salem, confronting the very real people who knew Emma’s mother.

Before you go.....

This one got pretty weird, even for me. Showdown in Salem would have been a good working title. I won't give anything else away, just know this is where it goes down. But, of course, it's not over yet!
