"WHO WE ARE AND HOW WE GOT HERE"

The Denisovans: A Captivating Guide to the Extinct Cousins of Neanderthals Who Lived Across Asia during the Paleolithic Period (Exploring the Past) by Captivating History gives us a slight look into who and what we are today as Modern Humans.

In Denisovan Cave in Siberian Altar Mountains, which Denisovan remains were discovered 1970s dating the discovered remains back to 300,000 years ago. In 2008 and 2010, it was confirmed that they had discovered a new and separate human species through DNA. The surprising thing was that both Neanderthals and Modern Humans carry Denisovan DNA, adding to our genetic traits, making what Neanderthals were and what today's humans are.

Today's humans carry both Denisovan DNA Neanderthals DNA, making Homo Sapiens a mixed of both, proving that the three species not only lived together but interbread between species. The site at the Denisovan Cave showed that all three species had at one time or another lived in the cave. There is no proof that the Denisovans and Neanderthals were any less intelligent or sophisticated than Homo Sapiens, and the tools, jewelry, and food preparation appear to be along the same between species.

This all proves that anthropology and the history of our species is on-going experience. Until we have dug up every possible dig site (including my back yard) we still have a lot to learn. We might even find additional species that are just waiting to be found just a few feet below the ground we are currently walking on.

Anything but captivating. Credible facts as extinct as the Denisovans themselves.

This book repeatedly refers to different studies but does not cite the studies in any way. Hence, neither the existence or credibility of said studies can be validated by the reader. All sorts of speculations and differing points of view (again without citations) are offered without conclusions. The material is not presented in any sort of empirically understandable way. I can not recommend this book to anyone. Neither a novice to this subject and certainly not an expert would benefit from reading it.

I’ll be honest: I had never even heard of the Denisovans or the Denisova cave before I saw this book. It’s Captivating History, though, and their books are always good, so I figured I’d give it a try. The story of the Denisovans, contemporaries of the Neanderthal, is still being discovered. But Captivating History presents what is so far known. The book is an interesting and well-organized overview of the subject. I found it easy to read and entertaining.

well done updated

Well written updated with recent scientific data. Reads logically and intellectually while making it a good story. I hope they keep going as more discoveries are made.

Extremely interesting topic that I did not know much about. Author relates much information from a variety of sources. However, I found extensive detailing of the sources in the text to be a bit much and somewhat repetitive. Still a good read.

Great DNA information

I enjoyed reading it, but it's very technical! Data on research going on from the 1990's until now on DNA and homo sapiens make up! Exciting information!
