The infamous (relatively short) side story, well written with some solid character drama and development, but that still doesn't mean the subject matter is done all that well. While it isn't exactly treated as something good, that is mostly from Rudeus perspective and it is treated as the result of his own bad behavior in his past life, almost everybody else is perfectly fine with it. O well, I knew what I was getting into and plot not withstanding it definitely reminded me of some of the better written parts of the series. Definitely not for everybody, and that is stating it lightly.

Loved the series but genuinely cannot stand how the last novel had to end with such a disturbing relationship dynamic. It is one thing to argue about adults who are related getting together since that is only an issue if reproducing is involved. But DESTROYING a character who had so much potential to only decide to make them a predator that groomed a child from infancy!!!! Rather than have Aisha grow and mature the author ruins her by making her a pedophile

Do yourself a favour and do not read past the first chapter.
The first and last chapters are good. The rest of the story is disturbing and perverted in the worst possible way.

If you thought Mushoku had some questionable relationships and perversions, this turns it up to eleven by revealing a pedofilic and incestuous act from Rudeus in his first life.
Save yourself the read.
Just read the first and last chapters, but find a summary of the rest if you´re interested.

I'm not shocked this volume is rated very low relative to any other volume. This is easily the most morally offensive volume, but to me, it was a very interesting character study. The way this was though provoking and off-putting probably puts it in the top 3 Mushoku volumes in general. Crazy, I know, but it's just a breath of fresh air to see an author tackle these topics. Grooming, pedophilia, incest - all delivered through the lens of Rudy's regretful chapter in his chronicled life. I thought we're way past exploring Rudy's degenerate past, but the reveal that he jorked it to his own nieces on multiple occasions (not because he found them attractive but just cuz...?) really threw a wrench in the cogs, and how much he was punished and regretted it tied into why he was so morally opposed to what happens in this volume. Now, it really was bizarre to see Aisha say she loved Arus from the very moment she held him as a baby. Aisha, who was taught to service Rudy, had he ever asked for her warmth, was never approached to do so, perhaps felt jealous or lonely and went for his son instead. Arus in this is the victim in every way, of course. He's 12. Imprinted, manipulated and forced to become dependent on her. It's only natural he'd fall for her in a twisted way. Aisha wanted this all along, even going to the extent of keeping them being together a secret and after being caught essentially kidnapping him to live away from everyone. In the end, she regrets it and completely breaks down mentally and physically, from the anxiety and grief of knowing what she had done, even carrying his child. The whole talk with rudy after was crazy, even him revealing his past life details to her first, of all people. Aisha demanding she's killed or punished at the very least is redeeming for sure. It settled happily, with them reuniting as essentially adults and living together cleaned the palette after some of the gross things you'd read. Gross, but thought provoking. It wasn't just for shock factor, but a challenge to the customs of the fantasy world they inhabit. Incest is commonplace. To rudy, it reminds him of his own taboos and deep regrets. To us, the reader, even more so. And we leave off the furthest point in time we've seen, with Arus the Wind God signing us off, many many decades after Rudy's passing. Marvelous.

Morality and ethics aside, this was weirdly sad and an unusual route to take these characters this late in the story (epilogue basically). It is well written, although there is a lot of maiming for some reason.

Fun ending

Very enjoyable collection well done liked Aisha arc a good conclusion for a long running series sad to see it finally end
