A professional photographer, writer and fan of general weirdness (both real and imagined), Tony has traveled tens of thousands of miles seeking out everything from haunted locations, UFO crash sites and monsters like Bigfoot and the Mothman. In a previous life, he worked in the independent movie industry but he finds his current career much more exciting.
Tony's first writing memory involves penning a short story about taking a road trip with his best friend and his dog (two different creatures) to watch KoKo B Ware in a professional wrestling event in Pittsburgh. He wrote that epic saga while in the 3rd grade and it was all downhill from there. His first books were a series of o)eat travelogues but recently his zombie apocalypse series, "Life of the Dead" has been a bestseller online and grossed out readers all over the world. His ultimate goal in life is to be killed by a monster thought by most to be imaginary. Sasquatch, werewolves, chupacabras, he’s not picky. If that fails, he’d enjoy making a living as a full time writer. Which of those two scenarios is more likely is up to the readers to decide.
An intriguing selection of reports of the paranormal, as written by the witnesses themselves. The witness writing is thorough and surprisingly good, I'm not sure if Urban did some discreet editing or just picked the best-written ones. Then, after the witness's account, there's an interview to fill in some of the blanks the witness didn't mention. A lot of books like this are about a single phenomenon and give the sightings in summary, and it's a refreshing change of pace to get the full account of the sighting and have a broad remit like "paranormal encounters in the woods" that allows for accounts that don't fit in conventional categories like "sasquatch" or "UFO," such as the headless woman in the white dress standing in a ring of campfires. The book also goes into the effects of the sighting on the witness, another aspect that's often skipped over. There are a few stories that seem out of place because while they're frightening, there's little reason to think there's anything paranormal going on. "Creep at the Cabin Door" was almost certainly an ordinary man who was mistaken about what cabin he was at or who was supposed to be inside, and "Wrong Turn" is explicitly confirmed to be an encounter with a meth addict. Definitely worth a read, but do it during the day.
This is the 4th book in the True Stories of the Unexplained series. It is another excellent edition. Witnesses share their strange and unusual encounters and there is a brief interview included at the end of each story. There are some good ones in this edition. Cryptids of several varities, paranormal phenomena and UFOs are included. Of note are the ranger that encountered a giant cat, and my favorite, a grandfather out with his granddaughter, outwits a UFO. I look forward to more in the series, Tony always gets great stories.
I read this book in 1 day. I really enjoyed it! I'm a believer in the Paranormal but don't really put my attention too much towards Bigfoot and stuff like that and I'm not sure I could ever believe in werewolves unless I saw one myself and, believe it or not, I'm not in any hurry to ever see one in real life. Anyway, if you like these sorts of stories, this is a great, fast read! I recommend!
