Picking up from our last issue, Nightwing is deep within the spheric compound dealing with their anti meta human weaponry…and he hasn’t even noticed all the bombs planted around him. While dancing around the laser robot, he is able to get on top of it and use one his new toys. His escrima sticks now what the ability to turn into a laser, and he is able to rip the robot apart to try and find the CPU to destroy…but he finds something completely different. And that is the exact moment the bombs go off! When the dust settles he runs back over to pull the rabbit out of the robot! Turns out they are using animals to drive the machines with their fight of flight responses, that’s pretty disgusting. So he does what any sane person would, and takes the rabbit with him as he escapes from the building surrounded by police. Of course one thing oracle has to remind him of, is that his dog and this rabbit won’t mesh well.
When he woke up in the morning he got a call from his sister and watched the spheric press conference, and that’s when things really start to click. They publicly say they don’t think Nightwing is behind the attack, but would like their test animal back, and instead they found a patch from the gang known as the teddies. More than likely they were stealing tech to use against the other gangs, we all of course know this is a major frame up, but spheric uses this as an opportunity to sew fear into the community. That paves the way for them to easily announce their partnership with the police and the Helios project, where they equipped the police with major overkill weapons and jet packs and shields. Nightwing sees through it all immediately.
Meanwhile we set our sights on a group of teddies who feel betrayed and think Nightwing is apart of it, and are going to try and skip town. But before they can, they are surrounded by a few of the over powered police force. Nightwing rushes their on his bike just in time to put himself between the two groups, but unfortunately one of the teddies got the bright idea to aim a gun at one of the cops. Escalating the conflict and providing the cops the excuse necessary to unload a massive energy weapon at the facility, bringing it down with everyone in it. Some of the teddies survived and it was revealed they aren’t even 15 yet, they were just kids and the oldest one who died was fourteen.
“The sweet circus boy isn’t smiling anymore. It has been so long since he performed in the big top proper, perhaps he forgot…that when you’re putting in a show, you’ve got to make the gillies feel. You’ve got to make them care early on. Make the danger real. That’s when you’ve captured their hearts.”
