Despite a rough start to adulthood, Skylar Halverson has managed to move forward and build a life for herself. It’s been several years since Skylar found herself pregnant and unmarried. After giving the baby to her sister to adopt and raise, Skylar left Serenity behind to build a life for herself away from her small hometown.
It’s been one tragedy after another for Aiden McIntyre, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
In the span of four years, Aiden has lost his father and his sister. Their losses have shrunk his family down to just him, his mom, and his niece. Unfortunately, the hits haven’t stopped coming, with his young niece having been diagnosed with a disease that requires finding a donor to give her a chance at survival.
And Aiden will do anything he has to in order to make sure they don’t lose another family member. Because he’s certain if they lose his niece, his mom won’t survive.
Skylar can’t believe it when Aiden reaches out to her with a request. Though she’s sorely tempted to just ignore him because of how things ended between them, she isn’t completely heartless. But Skylar’s reluctant to disrupt the life her niece—because that’s how she thinks of her—has with her family.
With each of them fighting for their families, can they find common ground? But with common ground, might forgiveness follow? It seems impossible that they could ever move beyond the hurt and mistakes of the past.

I always enjoy Jordan's slower paced, contemplative books, and this one did not disappoint. She balances humor and serious topics well, and the characters develop throughout the series. I'm glad there's not a long wait between books either, so I don't have to re-read to remember who's who or what has happened to the various characters. It's hard to believe this is #9, and there's only one Halverson story to come!
Another heartwarming story from Kimberly Rae Jordan. It has its moments of sadness as it tackles childhood cancer, but Kimberly handles the serious topic with a good mix of grace and realism. I enjoyed following Skyler and Aiden’s realistic journey from a painful, broken relationship to a relationship filled with faith, hope and trust.
This was a good story about a couple having a child out of wedlock lock. The little girl was given to a family member to raise and as time goes by the guilt the mother about not having her child grows. The story is long, and would have been better had it been condensed some.
Kimberly Rae Jordan writes another sweet story of redemption in this book. Many of us have friends or family members who have gotten pregnant out of wedlock. While some of them raise their children as a single parent, others chose the adoption option, thus blessing another family. The author handled this topic and the reconciliation of the birth parents well.
Glad to see that Cathy acknowledged their poor treatment of Kelsey. That troubled me from the other book. This was like walking a tightrope. Everything was fragile their relationship, feelings, and Shiloh's health.
What an amazing story about Skylar. At 18 years old, it seems like she lost the love of her life, Aiden. It is so interesting and exciting to read this book. I can't wait for the next book. Very enjoyable reading.
The story portrayed the love of God through the lives of the characters. It had complications and interesting moments but through trust and faith in God the situations were overcome. Made the story thought provoking.
Lovely tale of redemption and new beginnings from the ashes of failure
Very good book - loved the story from start to finish. Lovely exposition of the grace of the Lord and His redemptive power even while we are still in the flesh.
