What a fantastic read. Nathan Best has just gone to the top of Australian military authors currently in the genre. Full of action and page-turning narrative, the Long Surrender draws you in immediately and doesn't let up until the last operator is dusted off and on their way home. I allowed myself a week to read the book and enjoy it, but that didn't happen. Two and a half days later and book complete. I loved the array characters, and the scene setting was perfect, something only a man with experience could portray to the degree that it was. All up, it was a cracking read, and Nathan is now at the top of my must-read authors.
Book Review – Long Surrender – Nathan Best Australian thriller author Nathan Best – Royal Australian Air Force veteran – is back with Book Three in the Damien Hunter series, “Long Surrender.”
This time, main character Damien Hunter leads the Taipan One Six covert black ops team that takes on missions no one else will touch – on a rescue and revenge operation in Taliban territory.
While seeking peace from an operation in Afghanistan, where one of their own got left behind – and Hunter has never forgiven himself for it, he is suddenly pulled back into the fray when an international female athlete, suffers in an Afghan prison, awaiting execution at the hands of the Taliban. Alongside her, other female athletes face the same grim fate. Then, also, out of nowhere, the long-lost Taipan One Six operator that was abandoned—also makes contact as well, after years in captivity.
Now, Hunter and the Taipan One Six team must mount a daring rescue of the athlete and her fellow prisoners and also retrieve his old comrade however, he and the team are given an ultimatum that prioritizes rescuing the women over retrieving his friend and Hunter’s not having it.
Driven by guilt and loyalty, Damien Hunter stops at nothing to save both the women and his colleague – tearing through Afghanistan in a storm of violence, ferocity, and fierceness. Talk about “violence of action” – this narrative is exactly that!
Nathan Best, again, draws on his Royal Australian Air Force service experience and pens a third powerful, stirring, and solid military action thriller. The plot, the characters, and the overall storyline were riveting, appealing, and alluring. I enjoyed this book and am thankful that Best keeps Hendricks Book Reviews in mind when seeking reviewers.
