This is book 5 in the Spellbound Bookshop paranormal cozy mystery series by USA TODAY Bestselling Author J.A. Whiting.

It’s September in the seacoast town of Hamlet, Massachusetts and Shelby Price is happily running her bookshop and enjoying spending time with friends and her new boyfriend.

Last Christmas, Shelby fell off a ladder and hit her head and when she woke up, she could hear her cat talking to her. Not only could she converse with the feline, but she started to develop some paranormal powers. Initially shocked and frightened by what was going on, Shelby came to accept her new skills and has been working to better understand what she can do with them.

The town is preparing for its annual "Luck of the Sea" festival, but a string of unlucky accidents threatens to derail the event. Shelby notices a pattern in the accidents that seems related to some pirate legends found in an old book from her shop. With the help of her cat Harper, her friend Lucy, the town detective, and her paranormal skills, can Shelby figure out what’s going on before it is too late?

This story has some mild paranormal elements.

Shelby Has Visions From 300 Years Ago!

Legends and Luck is Book 5 of J. A. Whiting's Spellbound Bookshop mystery series. This series focuses on book owner Shelby Price, her telepathic cat, her friends and family, and mysteries that surround the seacoast town of Hamlet in New England U.S.A. This episode is about a supposed curse put on the town in 1724 when an innocent man was hanged. Shelby will have to put clues together from her visions from the past, plus clues in the present to see if the curse is real, or if the incidents that are happening in Hamlet are manmade and not paranormal. I gave this book a 5 star rating.

Curses and ponzi schemes

Wow, so much happens in the small town of Hamlet. JA Whiting is great at writing light paranormal cozies and this one doesn't fail. While getting ready for a local festival a curse resurfaced, or did it. Shelby and company start investigating the curse and boy do things get stirred up. In the end, it's all solved and major people in the community are brought down due to a ponzi scheme they've been running that probably would have never surfaced if Shelby wasn't looking into the curse. On to the next adventure.

Shelby, Travis and Mr. Peacock had a real challenge on their plates when weird things started happening on the 100th anniversary of the Luck of the Sea festival. Some incidents caused a few injuries and rumors were flying high about a curse set on the town, but Shelby had a feeling a real person was behind all this. She and Lucy did some sleuthing and uncovered the culprit so the festival could continue, making for a much happier town.

legends and Luck

I’m so happy with the ending of this book. So sad for Justin and his mixed up mind. So many people have twisted ideas and won’t believe when someone tells them different.

Fun mystery

Love the interaction between the recurring characters, especially Harper and Shelby. The friends having each others backs is so refreshing.
