The book highlights the value of intelligence with the example of the 7th October Terror attack by Hamas on Israel and Israels response. The author is not relevantly critical of Israels actions, it is Hamas he criticises. You can agree or disagree with this, it is still a very interesting example and useful to understand the role of intelligence. That said, the author could have delved far deeper into mistakes and misperceptions. He (probably) did not as a lot is still unkown for the public. Instead, the author explores the region and the role of intelligence in Germany. This was all interesting, but I would preferred more about mistakes and events around October 7 from an insider and intelligence point of view.
