Deadly Vicious Lies: The Realm of Farehail

Rate this book
The guild guarding Farehail’s secrets was never to be crossed, should that crosser like to keep their life. They were ruthless, unforgiving, but protective of their realm. Everything they did was for the greater good of their island.

For Kaya, this meant that she would have to abide by their laws, even though she had been forced to fall into their ranks as a small child. The people who made up the guild had no choice in the matter, chosen for the power that ran through their blood. But still, they all happily served, doing everything they could to keep the realm’s secrets safe.

When tragedy strikes, Kaya is sent elsewhere. She spends years away from her home, until one day she is called back-that force inside her propelling her home. That, and something more.

A longing for the past.

A siren’s call in the wind.

A thrumming in the air.

Kaya must choose between following the ways of her realm and adhering to what is expected from her, or carving her own path. One that could lead to her own demise.

Arc reader, and I am so honored to have gotten to read this early. Thank you again Emma.

I KNEW tynan had to be one of the wicked kings sons that got away but I was thinking tiernan. Ansel???Omg.
I knew Lucy was involved someway but I wasn’t thinking her powers were being siphoned in minuscule ways so she didn’t notice. I gave holden the benefit of the doubt because he genuinely seemed to care about farehail so at one point I suspected Lucy wasn’t as innocent as she seemed. Man I was so wrong.
I’m glad Kaya and cillian end up together after all that heartbreak even if they let tynan/ansel ,run free to come back with a vengeance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Emma’s writing is top tier.

As proven typical with Emma's writing, I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I also go into books blind so I had no clue what to expect. The story was amazing! So full of details but not too many details that it just clogs the story! It's well organized as well! I've read all three of her books at this point, and I seriously can't choose a favorite. This book, though. I'm happy Kaya and Cillian got the happy ever after that they deserved. I'm glad they fought and got justice for Farehail. Elevating the threats that posed, Kaya and Cillian, amongst others, fought tirelessly to save their kingdom! Once Tynan came into the picture, I was questioning his motives, but I was blown away when I realized Tynan wasn't Tynan. He was one that got away in a previous story! I love how this is a series of standalones, but they still all interconnect with each other.

This book is a rollercoaster of a story about a girl named Kaya. She is a stubborn, strong, and determined girl. Through this story, Kaya experiences deep love (spice level 2), horrible devastation, and unexpected betrayal all while trying to find out who is turning the people in her town into husks- a shell of a person whose soul has basically been siphoned from their body, though the body keeps on going.

Though the book starts a little slow, it quickly picks up. I feel like this slow start is necessary, though, because it helps you to get to know the characters and truly grow a fondness for them. (Nash and Finn, I’m thinking of you!) just when we get comfortable, devastation hits and Kaya flees, leaving behind everything she knows and the greatest love she has ever had.

She leaves for 6 years (see more about that in All The Violent Ways) to escape pain and devastation as well as try to find out more about what is happening with these husks. When she returns she has to face all of the things, and the man, she ran from, which really made my heart pout. (I love the love story in this book SO much and it hurt to see them suffering!)

What I wasn’t expecting was that ending!! I started realizing that I thought I knew who Tynan may be. I at least knew where he came from so I started digging through Wicked to try to find him because I swear I had experienced his serpentine nastiness before. However, I didn’t figure it out until the very end of the book and my jaw DROPPED. I now feel like I have to go back and start the book all over with that in mind! Mind blown!

I sincerely enjoyed this book. Emma is a very talented mastermind of a writer who weaves the stories of her characters throughout each of her books in a seamless way. Though these are stand alone books, they are so much better together. There are Easter eggs and background information that can be found in each of her books that add more depth to the others. Though there is no reading order, I personally suggest Wicked first followed by Violent and then Deadly. I still can’t pick a favorite but this one might be #1!

I look forward to Emma’s future books! I can’t wait to see which character she will focus on next!

EMMA.

Wowwwwwwww, just wow. I’ve been waiting so patiently for the third book - a standalone, but highly recommend you read all three.

Kaya, I am OBSESSED with you. The FMC is a bad b$tch. She is tough, smart, loyal, and fierce.

Emma’s writing just keeps getting better and better. Deadly Vicious Lies is a perfect example of this. Kaya’s journey of falling in love, seeking justice for her people, and experiencing deep deep pain is difficult to read - not because the writing is bad - but because Emma’s writing is so good that you feel like you are experiencing everything WITH Kaya. Every betrayal, every wound, every spark, every kiss.

I won’t give away spoilers, but I will say one thing:

THE ENDING?!!!?!!? Just twist my heart up into a knot and light me on fire.

I highly recommend reading all three books: Wicked, Cruel Things - followed by All the Violent Ways - and lastly Deadly Vicious Lies.

Seriously, stop what you’re doing and put these three books at the TOP of your TBR. Emma, I love you - take all my money - we cannot wait to see what you do next!

I have mixed feelings about the book I am obviously very happy with the story lining and having the two points of views technically 3 lol but I personally like when it’s one persons POV for a couple of chapters and then it’s the other persons POV in a couple more chapters the back and forth point of views made my head spin.

That absolutely doesn’t mean I didn’t love the story line. Yes both Kay and Cillian had a lot of trauma and had a lot of bad things happen and obviously like all men Cillian was always jealous not knowing what friendships were since he didn’t have any lol.

I was definitely am amazing book and I would honestly recommend the book to everyone I would just let them know that there is a lot of different POV within this story and if they are not used to reading like this then to take it slow or annotate

Overall the book was a fun read, the world was easy to understand, the magic system wasn’t super complex but it was interesting. I liked the writing in this book, the story was engaging, the characters were diverse and I enjoyed each of them. I would’ve liked to see more details throughout the book because I was missing more information about the history of the kingdom, Kaya’s solo journey part way through the book, and the ending felt rushed. The book had a heavy element of mystery to it which was great, but the mystery wasn’t cleared up for me which left me wanting some closure. The story is focused more heavily on the characters than the overall plot which isn’t a bad thing, but did make for some lack of understanding around some events. Overall, a good read and fun adventure.

Emma's writing just keeps improving. I've enjoyed all of Emma's Books. I can't wait for the next one. I'm gonna need to get my Book Trophy. The amount of details Emma can pack into one book & not have it be too much or full of plot holes is impressive. Her books are full from the first page to the last & leave no question unasked. 5/5 Stars Can't wait for the next one!!! Love, Betrayal, Heartbreaking Rollercoaster Moments. The characters are complex & flawed. The tension & banter is so good. You can feel every emotion. Romantasy Mixed With Secrets & Time Jumps & Memories. Will They Won't They? So many twists & jaw dropping moments.

5/5 🌟

I struggled with this book for the first 5 chapters but then found the story & couldn't put it down. I've read all of Emma's books now & find her writing to have progressed so much so quickly. I would recommend her books to any romantasy or fiction reader.

Emma’s best yet! Well-written, and I loved putting the pieces together from the other standalone novels in this series. I even got a nice little surprise at the end, which is a treat when you usually see a twist coming from a mile away.

I received an ARC of Deadly Vicious Lies by and as always it did not disappoint in the slightest! This is book 3 in the Wildewood series. All books are standalones.
As always I felt the pacing of the book and the details were laid out perfectly. I could actually picture the settings and characters. I’m so happy our two MCs end up together. This is a series I could reread over and over. I also really like how even though they are standalone they have tied in together in some ways.

Another thrilling addition to the Wildewood series and it answered SO MANY of my questions. I immediately wanted to re read the other two standalones in the series. There were so many Easter eggs and references in this book that fans of this series will love and appreciate. Although this book is a standalone, I highly recommend reading the rest of the series if you enjoyed this one.

Deadly Vicious Lies is a standalone set within the same world as the other novels in Emma Lynn Ellis' Wildewoods novels. I really enjoyed this one. The first part was exciting and I was engaged with the characters. I also loved the ending, which was an exciting payoff with an "Ah ha!" moment for those of us that have read the other Wildewoods novels.

However, were I to compare all three of the currently available Wildewoods novels, this is my least favorite of the three. I found the large gap in time near the mid-point of the book unsatisfying. I kept hoping to get some insights into the adventures, or misadventures, during that gap, but was left wanting. Aside from that, this was another enjoyable entry from Ellis.

While these Wildewoods novels are all standalones, I do recommend reading them in order of release. I think the payoff of seeing some familiar faces and putting little easter eggs together is greater when read in that order - which is Wicked Cruel Things, All the Violent Ways (my personal favorite) and then Deadly Vicious Lies.

Thank you to Emma Lynn Ellis for an advanced e-reader copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This is the third book in the Wiilderwoods series it is also a standalone like the previous two. This story follows Kaya a young girl who is trained in the guard being she has some magic but isn’t of high priority magic as she discovers she isn’t what she thinks she is. This is a great story of a magic world , friendship, loss and growth. Emma’s writing was great in her first book and has improved with maturity and experience I love her writing style and cannot wait to read what she comes out with next
