This is the worst book in the series so far. As an angst hater, I dreaded the long, drawn-out journey to an obvious outcome, only to be met with an underwhelming and disappointing ending. I did enjoy seeing the heroine embrace her newfound strength and cruel side, but for a book supposedly about acceptance, it dragged way too much.
The miscommunication trope was absolutely ridiculous in this one—the characters were together for about 1% of the book, and then it all led to a cliffhanger that left me completely unsatisfied.
But what truly ruined this book for me was the way the Abyssal wizard’s character was handled. This whole book was about the relationship with him and the heroine. And out of everyone in this series, he has the most tragic and messed-up life, and yet, the FMC somehow failed to understand his intentions. She was completely dumbed down by the end, which made no sense because even one of her mates clearly saw what was really happening and what was at stake—and he went along with it! But the FMC, with all her supposed wisdom and undying heart, all her proclamations of love and whatnot, couldn’t take a second to stop and think? That was unbelievable, especially since she had already accepted whatever was coming regarding him. Her complete 180 was too forced.
So no, that was complete BS, and I refuse to believe it served any purpose. Zero points.
And the ending... it was more like adding salt to the wound with that same MMC’s POV, suffering even more and telling us what we OBVIOUSLY already knew. Honestly, this book felt like it existed solely to stretch the story.
But I'm invested, so I'll continue with the next installment.
Overall, one of the most senseless and frustrating books I’ve read. I truly do not recommend reading this until the next one is out.
