Genre: Historical Romance
Rating: 2/5 ⭐️
Spice: 0/5 🧼

Summary: Claire and Julian have spent years at odds despite their parents being the best of friends. When they end up in a compromising position, they’re forced to announce an engagement but they’re both determined to find a way out.

Thoughts: This one just wasn’t it for me. I went in hoping for cozy Christmas vibes but it really didn’t deliver on that at all.

The characters were pretty insufferable, constantly bickering and had very little growth. They felt like enemies with no respect for one another right up until the very last pages.

The writing felt unnatural and kind of chaotic, which made it hard to get into the story or connect with the romance. Overall, not one I’d recommend.

falling in love with your best enemy

Julian and Claire’s parents were best friends and they grew up together. Claire was a tomboy so they had a lot of adventures including playing pranks on each other. Still they were sworn enemies. Claire had never had a man try to court her because she always spoke her mind which was unlike any of the ladies of the ton. This got her in trouble and Julian always seemed to be there to get her out. She doesn’t want to marry and give up her independence but her parents are pressing her to find a husband. When the wrong man starts paying attention to her will Julian and Claire realize their true feelings? I liked independent Claire and her good heart and Julian with his readiness to rescue not just Claire but others as well. They were fun characters to read about and there were very good supporting characters. I recommend.

I won't read another book by Barton - it was like reading a book written by a very immature teenager

Typos were innumerable. She kept on referring to the male character as "my lady." Immature, rude characters abound in this book. Very week plot. No originality at all. Just copied other writers. So ridiculous!

Their families had been friends for years, but no so much them. They play pranks on each other until one prank turned into a scandal and they found themselves engaged. Now they must navigate their new situation. I felt the storyline had the right amount of humor, but the editing as very poor and I almost quit reading it because of the mistakes especially using my lady for my lord.
