I don’t know what I expected to come from asking my best friend for help, but her brother, Callaway, coming to my rescue instead was definitely not how I imagined it would play out.
I’m desperately trying to pick up the pieces of my shattered reality, and falling for the Atlanta Striker’s lead pitcher was not a part of the plan.
He’s everything I shouldn’t want, yet, his pursuit of me is steadfast and is slowly chipping away at my stone cold heart. ————
CALLAWAY
There’s something about her that sinks deep. I can’t pinpoint it, but it has me mesmerized by her darkness.
I crave it.
My sister’s best friend snuck up on me in the best way.
I can’t shake her.
I’m not sure I want to.
In fact, I do my best to make that clear even after she accepts the job as my league’s team photographer.
There are a million reasons why we would never work and a million and one why I don’t seem to care.
Indy Valentine is a contemporary romance author who resides off the East Coast of Florida. Indy thrives on writing off-the-charts banter and spice; You can expect some lethal slow burn to exist between her pages.
When she's not writing, Indy can be found at the beach, attending baseball games, spending time with her family, and with a romance book in her hands.
I love sports romance and was excited to read Endgame.
Callaway is a professional baseball player who falls hard for his sister’s best friend, Dakota. I love it when a hero falls fast and falls first. Their romance turned friends to lovers, was sweet, and made me smile and swoon. Callaway was fantastic and Dakota was strong. They were a great couple.
The main issue I had with this, is it was too long IMO. Overall I think this was a strong debut and I enjoyed it. I’m excited to read Navy and Bodhi’s book!
3.5⭐️ thank you Indy Valentine for the Arc in exchange for an honest review.
I needed more baseball romance after loving Play Along by Liz Tomforde and this was a sweet and romantic read. Not a bad start for a debut.
Cal is very dreamy, but there was a scene where u thought *that* was a bit melodramatic.
Dakota...I just wanted to give her a big hug. She lost her parents to a car crash (about a year before the story starts), so she builds walls around her, and she focuses on her career. And she's a cookie queen...a woman after my own heart.
I love a book that practically supports adoption.. it warms my heart and proves that families aren't always blood and DNA...💕💕
I won't lie, I am more invested in Navy (Cal's sister) and Bodhi !! BRING IT ON !

Do feel like this was a bit longer than it should have . And some parts were predictable.
I have to start off by saying that I really enjoyed this book. Best friend’s brother is a trope that I will always eat up, and the slow burn here was palpable. They don’t seal the deal until way later in the story, and I loved that he was in it for the long haul. Both characters have struggles they’re working through, and seeing them face those challenges together was something I really appreciated.
Now, you can definitely tell this is a debut novel, but in a good way. The writing grew stronger as the book progressed, and it has me excited to see what’s coming in the rest of the series. The only thing that gave me pause was the nickname “Angel.” It wasn’t my vibe and kind of pulled me out of the moment.
That being said, I’m diving straight into book two. I can’t wait to see where Indy Valentine takes the story next!
•Okay Cal has it down bad for Dokota. He tried so hard to crack open the walls Dakota had built up from past trauma. The banter between them is comical. Even after being turned down initially, Cal is PERSISTENT in his quest to show Dakota that she is worthy and beautiful.
There was a miscommunication/jump to conclusion moment I didn’t like. The book was a little lengthy, could’ve been trimmed down some. Some of the back and forth dialogue was kind of ‘ick’ for me.
Overall, this book had me both cry, laugh, and swoon. I would be interested in reading more books by the author in hopes of improvement!
I REALLY enjoyed this book! Callaway…..🥵 I love me a man who knows what he wants and goes for it, plus his dirty mouth on top of that is perfection!! I love that he never gave up on Dakota and always showed up for her! If you love a baseball romance where he falls first this is a MUST read!! This book is full of angst but also has the perfect amount of spice, the spicy scenes are SPICY! 🌶️
-sports romance -friends to lovers -workplace romance -hero falls first
Dakota and Callaway 😍 such good banter and heart poured into this book! Callaway knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to show it. Dakota really tried to put up a fight but it was pointless, they were ENDGAME
Where do I start? And where do I find Callaway? I really enjoyed reading this and found myself smiling along as I was reading it! I could relate to Dakota, she’s a very likable FMC with a strong character arc! Amazing debut!
thank you to the author for providing an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!
1.5/5 stars.
this definitely read like a debut novel. while i enjoyed parts of it, there were definitely some blips in the writing that could use work and also parts that i didn’t particularly agree with.
the overall plot is a romance between dakota, a new team photographer for a major league baseball team, and calloway, the pitcher for the team (who also happens to be dakota’s best friends adopted older brother). i personally didn’t think there was much chemistry between dakota and callaway as it was more of lust at first sight and infatuation that was the driving force behind their interactions. there were factors that prevented them from being together but i still didn’t think that they got to know each other enough to fall as hard as they did. there was some emotional depth to each character that we got insight on but it still felt a bit surface level because there was so much focus on their physical attraction that i didn’t think there was enough vulnerability either character really had a chance to show and grow on.
i do think that the author has potential to grow. despite my own personal problems, this was a solid foundation for the author to build on and can only get better from here!
what worked: - the cover is stunningggggg - i appreciated how callaway knew that he wanted dakota and didn’t shy away from making it known to literally everyone. he wanted her, he wanted to make her his, and nothing was going to stop him (even if he did come off a bit strong in the beginning). - i really enjoyed callaway and navy’s relationship as siblings, especially because they are adopted siblings and met later in life. they genuinely care deeply about each other and always supported one another! - the found family aspect with the baseball team was definitely a highlight - i loved the friendships between the players and also the friendship that dakota formed with kingston, callaway’s best friend. - DYING to get bodhi and navy’s story because i can just already tell from the little glimpses we got from them, there’s going to be some angst and tension! - i don't know a single thing about baseball but the author made it easy to follow along with the sport
what didn't work: - there were some inconsistencies with the writing in terms of the actions of the characters and what they said. for example; dakota wanted to go to a nightclub for a night out on the town to relieve some stress and even had to convince navy to be her wingwoman, but when callaway asks her later what brought her out, she says "you can blame your sister for my appearance here tonight" even though it was her idea to go out. - both dakota and callaway came off as misogynistic at times (surprisingly, more dakota than callaway??). callaway claimed to be “team woman” and was raised to to treat a woman properly, but in his inner monologue when he is thinking about his emotions and feelings towards dakota, he thinks that he’s “acting like a chick”. i also am not a fan of the word chick and it was used quite often in this lol. dakota was even worse - at a (naked) team photoshoot, there is a woman assisting with the shoot and we barely introduced to her when dakota immediately says “not sure who this high and mighty itty bitty titty chick is, but her presence is not exciting me in the slightest”. yikes. furthermore, when it looks like this itty bitty titty chick is flirting with the baseball players (and i'm assuming her only role as a character was to cause a reaction from dakota), dakota says, "what i was not expecting, though, was to be accompanied by ms. barbie who looked like a diva with her long blonde hair and tight body, leaving nothing to the imagination". definitely not a girls girl, lol. i literally cringed at these statements. - there were certain times with the dialogue between dakota and callaway felt a bit corny and forced, not cohesive at all.
i definitely had a hard time reading certain parts. i think as a debut novel, the author has some things to improve on and i'm hoping the next book in the series for bodhi and navy will be even better!

I'm super sorry but I dnf'd it at 30%, I really tried to finish but the writing was kinda inconsistent and hard to get through at some points
It's just that there were so many monologues?! I mean, the MMC was picking the FMC up and they were in the middle of a conversation that suddenly stopped because she had like four pages of inner monologue and when they continued talking I forgot what they were even discussing in the first place.
And I feel like this would be a book where the couple would break up after a month or so

"Forget flowers. Find you a man who brings you cookies."
This was an absolutely amazing debut novel. Literally everyone who loves sports romance, a slow burn, and loads of tension should read this one.
So much in this book I loved. Cal is just sheer perfection. No notes. The found Family vibes with the baseball team probably one of my most favorite things. Indy did such an amazing job at having me fall in love with all the characters in this book. How I immediately want the next book in the series. The book is not spice heavy but the tension is thick between these two, and when it finally does happen, it's so well done. Let's also add...so many microtropes I am obsessed with are in this book!
Dakota & Callaway's story was so beautiful. We really focus on Dakota and her broken pieces from her past. She navigates grieving all while building herself back up & starting a new job as the Atlanta Strikers team photographer. When she finally meets her best friend's brother (finally in person) he is totally smitten with her. Callaway makes his intentions clear with her, and Dakota makes it clear she can't provide what he's looking for. Cal doesn't waver and stays by her side as a friend. We also learn Cal's past and what really shapes him, which also contribute to a lot of his decision making in the book.
The slow burn, the tension, the absolute filth that came out of this man's mouth makes this book a FIVE star ! I loved these characters and they sucked me in immediately and I had so much fun with them. The writing made me feel like I was truly in the story. I am so excited for this series and CANNOT wait for the next book !
Kodi is reeling after her parents’ deaths and the demise of her longtime relationship. She has her best friend Navy, but is otherwise alone. Cue meeting Cal, Navy’s older brother, and getting a job with the Atlanta Strikers. She ends up finding a family in the team and is finally feeling like she belongs somewhere.
When I tell you Cal is GONE for Kodi gosh darn is he ever. he is the true definition of patient and kind. The way he meets Kodi where she is and just wants to be whatever she needs him to be ugh. he was perfection. Kodi is dealing with a lot of Grief and Trauma and she needed a man like Cal.
I really enjoyed this story and for a debut it was done SO WELL. good mixture of angst and tension but also chemistry and banter. at times it did get a bit drawn out and I felt like it could of been a bit shorter but all in all it was a solid read and even made me tear up.
-sports romance -friends to lovers -workplace romance -he falls first
OMG Can you believe it took me over to months to finish a book? Wait wait it was not the books’ fault obviously but more like life happening and lets call it a massive reading slump, I just genuinely didn’t feel like picking up a book nor read because there was so much going on in my life…
With that said! Ahh Im so proud of beautiful Indy and her debut novel! This was a beautiful journey and I loved it so much!
Dakota was so beautifully strong and determined and Callaway?! What a man you are!!!
This book was a ride of emotions, funny moments and a little bit of incredible spicy!
My overall rating is 4.5 ⭐️ and I’m only taking that half start because I think it was a touchy insta love which is a trope I’m not a fan of, but thats a personal preference but honestly being Indy’s first novel it was absolutely perfection and I cannot wait to read Navy and Bodhi’s book! Ahhh I just know I’m gonna love it even more!!
i’ve been in a bit of a reading slump the past couple of weeks, so it took me a little longer to finish than i’d hoped. however, i’m glad i got to stay in this world for a while. it was a nice escape from the freezing temperatures we’ve been experiencing! i thought kodi and cal’s relationship developed so beautifully. i absolutely loved that they both knew exactly what they wanted, even though their wants were opposing at times, and stood their ground. callaway was a real gentleman, seeing that dakota needed time to truly find herself, and to come to terms with her feelings. and i just thought dakota was the coolest. definitely someone i’d wanna be friends with! my fave moments were when the team and the girls all went out together! i did notice a few inconsistencies, and i wish there was more baseball, but overall i enjoyed this book!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 2.5/5
Hands down my favourite part of this whole book was our MMC Callaway, he falls faster and harder and goes after what he wants with everything he has. I never really felt connected to our FMC Dakota and found some of the character motivations and connections wanting. The team dynamic was fun and gave us that found family dynamic that I love. While I think this book had promising and enjoyable elements, it wasn't for me as a whole.
This book. Sheesh. I wish I hadn’t waited so long now. Callaway Hayes is every woman’s dream man. No games, just straight up obsessed.
Dakota has had a lot of heartache in her life and Cal has lived a rough childhood. They both bare scars which made them more endearing to each other. Dakota’s best friend is Cal’s sister, Navy. I loved the relationship between the two girls and how supportive Navy was to Dakota. I can’t say enough about this book. I loved it!
When one of your favorite booktuber writes her debut you just know you’re going to love it!
This is a best friend’s brother, workplace, baseball romance! I loved this book. Dakota and Callaway were so much fun. Their chemistry and banter was so good I couldn’t get enough of them. I’m so excited to see what’s next in this series.
DNF‘d after 20% in. For me it was too obvious, them liking each other. He was too fast forward, told her at their second Meeting that he wanted her without even knowing her. Sure, she‘s his sisters best friend but still. The story started a bit all over the place. Things happened and i had no idea: in the past? Now? What is going on?
This is the perfect start to a series! I loved Cal and Kodi so much. The emotions that this story pulled from.. the vulnerabilities these two hard.. I just adored them. I can’t believe this was Indy’s debut. This really needs to be read by anyone who loves a slow burn sports romance with lots of found family aspects!
The way Cal instantly was all in on her, this man had me blushing! He knew what he wanted 🤭 Kodi tried to fight it.. but that was useless. The ending? I was a puddle of tears. What Cal did for her.. I was not expecting that 🥹
They both had a broken past, and the way they navigated their way together made my heart so full. I truly loved their story and I cannot wait for the rest of this series! 👏🏼

Allow me to gosh about Indy Valentine, the author of Endgame. Endgame is her debut novel; she hit a home run with this one. I'm just so incredibly proud of Cheyenne for taking on this endeavor. I could tell while reading this book that she put her whole heart into it, and it shows because she makes you feel for Dakota and Callaway and what they both went through. The banter between them is top-tier. I was giddy and kicking my feet. Indy Valentine made me fall in love with Dakota and Callaway, and she also got me invested in her side characters and what they have going on in the story's background.
Dakota is a heroine dealing with grief because of something that happens. She needs someone to sit in silence with her and be allowed to feel her grief to help carry the weight of her grief because, at times, it could be cumbersome. That's what Callaway does for her. He allows her the space to fall apart. and I love him for it. In Dakota's words, from the moment they met, Callaway has been her protector. He makes Dakota feel seen. He shows Dakota how women are supposed to be treated in a romantic relationship.
From the moment they met, Callaway knew Dakota was someone he wanted in his life. Dakota ends up being the photographer on Callaway’s baseball team. Then Callaway goes on a quest to win Dakota's heart. Dakota resists this and shuts down Callaway’s attempts to get close to her. But no matter how hard she tries, she is no match for Callaway Hayes because when he wants something, he gets it and wants Dakota's heart. Callaway knows that he and Dakota are an inevitability, each other's Endgame.
To watch how Callaway won Dakota's heart was wonderful.. He became her Northstar when Dakota was up to her knees in grief and didn't know a way out. They became each other's safe space. Dakota felt comfortable falling apart in front of Callaway because she knew he would be there to help her pick up the pieces. And in return, Callaway opens up to Dakota about all the things that he went through.🥹 To see how Dakota and Callaway become each other's person was beautiful 🥹
Endgame will be released on January 17 on Kindle Unlimited. This is the easiest five-star review I have given. I want to express my pride in Indy Valentine/ Cheyenne. You've got yourself a fan girl for life.
I received an arc of this title. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I genuinely love this book. As a side note, Callaway is on my book-boyfriend list this year.
I absolutely ate this story up by Indy Valentine. I loved the relationship between Dakota and Callaway.
Dakota is grieving the loss of her parents. She has been sad, hurt and struggling to connect with the world again. Her long term relationship has ended and her car has broken down. Needing help to move some of her boxes and with her best friend Navy not being able to help, she sends her brother Callaway instead.
Callaway is absolutely gorgeous. He is a tattooed baseball player. He knows of Dakota but has never actually met her until now. He is instantly drawn to her and feels a protectiveness over her. He sees the vulnerabilities in her and is intrigued but he's also captured by her beauty. He sees the deep sadness in her and wants all the answers so be can help her.
Dakota likes Callaway but she is struggling with her feelings and doesn't feel like she should be getting involved in anything. She doesn't want to hurt Callaway but the more that they hang out together, the deeper their connection gets. This part of the story was written beautifully and I really liked that this was built as the book went on. They really got one another and understood each others issues. They way they shared their traumas with one another was especially beautiful.
Callaway was the perfect gentleman in waiting for Dakota to catch up with him. And I loved how he waited til they were on the same page before they moved to the next level. The communication between the two was really refreshing, honest and raw at times.
I enjoyed this book so much even though it made me want cookies 🤣
I'm delighted that Navy and Bodhi's story is next and I can't wait to dive right in.
Callaway Hayes is the perfect example of a golden retriever boyfriend, even before being the boyfriend. The way he instantly knew that Dakota was something worth pursuing, he did not let anything stand in his way. The way the sweet broken past boy, turned out to be this man with the biggest heart and filthy mouth. He loves Dakota so well, so patiently, so intently, and with so much purpose. I also really loved the way that he always showed up and loved his sister, Navy, and his parents. This man is nothing short of perfection.
Dakota Foster, otherwise known as “angel”… the grief you can feel when you first meet her is significant, the feeling of not knowing you’ll survive the pain. Coming to terms with not being loved the way you deserve while experiencing immense grief is not for the faint of heart. Then enters Callaway.. the half that makes her whole. The way that Cal speaks to her, treats her, and appreciates everything about her… is directly connected to the way she starts to view herself after experiencing his true and honest love. The way she learns to stand up for herself, how she starts to love herself again.. it’s truly amazing to watch this story unfold.
The longing for each other but not giving in.. makes the spice when it finally hits… HIT. There’s not many people who can write a good spicy scene, but damn Indy, you can! It’s not overdone, it’s not too much or too little, it just hits!

Endgame is a book that showcases how patience and love can help navigate you through hard times. Dakota and Callaway have an undeniable connection, but Cal gives Kodi the space she needs to find she can be happy again and choose to share that happiness with him.
Kodi is reeling after her parents’ deaths and the demise of her longtime relationship. She has her best friend Navy, but is otherwise alone. Cue meeting Cal, Navy’s older brother, and getting a job with the Atlanta Strikers. She ends up finding a family in the team and a path forward in her grief.
I appreciated the care that Cal always showed Kodi. He was well aware that she needed to maintain her friendship with Navy at all costs as she is Kodi’s only source of steady support. The author did a great job in writing Cal as a king who treats his girl like a queen.
This is the debut for the author. It is clear she understands what makes a romance book tick and the story has a good foundation. Take note that this is a wordy book. Sometimes there were pages between parts of dialogue which made me have to go back because I couldn’t remember what was said. Very stream-of-consciousness type writing with wish-fulfillment dialogue.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, what a debut! Callaway is an absolutely dream and if Dakota doesn’t want him, I will gladly take him. Spoiler alert: turns out she does want him so I guess I will just have to wait.
Callaway is a professional baseball player and Dakota is his sister’s best friend and the new team photographer. He falls first, falls fast and falls hard. I typically don’t love an insta-love situation but Indy made it believable and I appreciate that Dakota wasn’t that easy. She definitely pushed back against Callaway’s instant attraction to her - plus she was scared because she’d just gotten out of a painful, long term relationship. Dakota is shutting everyone out because she doesn’t want to get hurt but Callaway is persistent.
This is a slow burn as Callaway waits patiently for Dakota to give in and when she was does 🔥💥 I loved their relationship, their back and forth, and every little and big thing he does for Dakota. They’re both scarred from their past and did a really great job of working through issues in a mostly reasonable way (although there’s always gotta be a little drama right).
Lastly, I think Indy did an incredible job with the found family vibe and I’m super invested in finding out what happens to each side character - cannot wait for the next book!
This is Indy's debut book, and I was lucky enough to get an ARC . When I say I dropped everything to start this the second it landed on my Kindle, I'm not joking. I was SO excited for this!
This is a baseball sports romance between Dakota and Callaway. She's the teams photographer and his sisters best friend, and she's been through the ringer lately, so she's a bit prickly, a bit jadded, and in desperate need of feeling loved and supported.
Enter Callaway. He's such a golden retriever hero who knows what he wants from the get-go. But don't think Dakora is going to make this easy for him - oh no. This baby is a slowwwwwww burn, but oh, so worth it.
I loved the glimpses of the side characters we go, and I'm really invested to learn more. Especially Novy and Bodhi! Andlet'ss not forget Kingston and August.
I had a few minor issues with things pulling me out of the story at times but overall this was an amazing debut and I absolutely adored Callaway and Dakota and their story was so moving.
This is book 1️⃣ of The Atlanta Boys. This book was a little sad but it was also a sweet and spicy 🌶️ love story.
This story is about a woman named Dakota. She didn’t know what she expected to come from asking her best friend for help. But her brother Callaway came to her rescue instead was definitely not how she imagined it playing out. Dakota is desperately trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered reality. Falling for the Atlanta Striker’s lead pitcher was not a part of the plan. He’s everything that she shouldn’t want. Yet his pursuit of her is steadfast and is slowly chipping away at her stone cold heart.
Callaway felt that there was something about Dakota that sank deep. He couldn’t pinpoint it. He was mesmerized by her darkness. He craved it. He can’t shake her. He’s not sure he wants to. His sister’s best friend snuck up on him in the best way. He makes it clear how he feels about her after she accepts the job as his league’s team photographer. There are a million reasons why they shouldn’t work. A million reasons why they should. I loved both Callaway and Dakota together as a couple. This was a sweet love story.
