In the shadow of World War II, a young woman’s life is forever changed.
Krista Schulz, a 17-year-old German girl living in Poland, faces a harrowing loss as the Nazi occupation shatters her peaceful life. After witnessing the brutal murder of her beloved grandparents, the Nazis are now hunting her. Krista flees her village, carrying the weight of unanswered questions and a heart heavy with grief.
Determined to survive and find purpose in the chaos, Krista makes her way to Warsaw. As she grows from a frightened young girl into a resolute young woman, Krista discovers the strength within herself to navigate the dangers of war and aid those in need. But it’s not long before the past catches up with her in the most unexpected of ways.
The Clover Girls’ Network is a poignant coming-of-age story that captures the quiet strength of a young woman swept up in the turmoil of history. It’s a tale of loss, love, and the unbreakable bonds of friendship that can illuminate even the darkest of times.
What a powerful book....my heart broke so many times while reading. Her writing is certainly able to feel so immersive as it was if I was there amongst them during that distressing time! I would feel that righteous indignation for them as the arrogant and cruel Nazis merely stormed their way through towns in countries all around, plundering whatever they felt like, murdering anyone they considered a threat, "not worthy of life", or opposed them etc. The sheer anguish so many millions suffered at their hands was devastating++ as history always repeats itself unfortunately only in more subtle ways the desire for absolute control, crushing of any dissent, censorship with those having greedy power trip motives. In my own country sure we have an unelected "leader" at the helm; only allowing certain invited ones at his so called public events with actually barring the entrance, censoring social media, freezing bank accounts of an opponent recently as he had been behind those Freedom Convoy truckers and supporters back in 2022.....Utter nightmare and tyrant here.
I often thought while captivated by this story...to what did all this horrific persecution and brutality on so many umpteen millions of innocent lives accomplish during this attempt at conquering and wiping out other nations with his intense hatred for the Jewish?? Nothing but death and destruction. ** The resistance efforts**....oh my, this stood out much as the Polish people were so courageous indeed! Those brave soul's stories always fascinate me with their gutsy stand to not only fight back for themselves but to help others as well. Have to admire them.
It made me think of the Bible verse about how the enemy only comes to kill and destroy but I have come that they might have life. I am ever so grateful for those soldiers plus others who gave their lives for others so that we could enjoy a life as free as possible, to live in a relatively civilized world.
This was a first for me by this author but I will gladly read another for I was quite impressed.
Simply brilliant, from the first page to the last. The "Clover Girls" in the title refers to the Girl Guides, an organization the main character, Krista, is active in but the Nazis have banned in occupied Poland. This story takes off like a rocket on the very first page as the German Army occupies Krista's small village with fatal consequences. The book makes the reader feel what it was like to live under the crushing weight of the Nazis for five years in Poland, ending with the Warsaw Uprising. I couldn't breathe as the Polish resistance fighters tried to escape through the sewers. Women played many roles during the German occupation of Poland and I am always awed by their bravery, ingenuity, and compassion. I highly recommend The Clover Girls' Network but suggest you set aside a few hours when you won't be interrupted so you won't be irritated when people speak to you. I loved this one.
I enjoyed this WWII saga that takes place in Poland - a story of a young woman who flees the countryside after seeing her grandparents slaughtered by the Nazis. Her journey takes her to war-torn Warsaw where she works with the resistance. She is faced with many challenges but her bravery and ability to continue on in the face of such brutality is incredible. Highly recommend
The Clover Girls' Network is a story focused on the Nazi takeover of Poland during World War II. The story revolves around a young woman caught up in the tragedies of war and her experiences coping with heartache and loss and the fight to survive. It is a story of suspense and drama, pain and conflict. There is a mild romance, but the book is so much more than that. It will keep you reading and wanting to know more. I recommend it and hope that it will make you think about what war is like for ordinary people who find themselves caught up in the crosshairs of war and its consequences.
I'm sure this was a better story than my rating. Unfortunately, I listened to it through a virtual voice. Authors! Do not let your distributors to take the cheap and easy way of letting a computer tell your stories. I've listened to a handful, and this one was the worst. Let your characters have tears, as in water, on their faces rather than tears, cuts or slashes. And you certainly wouldn't greet a member of the underground resistance in the same tone as you would your friends at the nightclub.
I did not like the virtual voice narration. It takes away any emotion to make the character seem real. I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the book.
