Absolutely brilliant, what started out as quite a serious book soon turned into a farcical kidnapping gone wrong, drug dealers, local police sniffing around and lots more.
Lucy Spoon is leaving her husband of 20 years, he treats her like dirt and she has had enough so she leaves along with Fionn the dog.
Meanwhile Jodie McDeal has been thrown out for a "younger model" by her drug dealer boyfriend and is left penniless.
After a chance meeting in a cafe Lucy and Jodie strike up a friendship in adversity and go on the road together until their only mode of transport a beat up old van is stolen by Bosco and Corky who have kidnapped local businessman and multi millionaire Monty.
So starts a hilarious chain of events which ends up with all the main characters being kidnapped by the kidnappers and in a volatile situation find they are striking up a weird friendship of sorts with their abductors.
It all comes out in the wash in a side splitting and exciting finale.
Loved all the characters, the story was engaging and I especially liked the way the author tied up all loose ends in a little epilogue to show what happened to the characters after the main events of the novel.
Wonderful and a great read.

lucy leaves her husband taking the dog and the van. somewhere else jodie has become the ex of drug dealer rogan hogan. jodie takes the car from him and when she breaks into the house to get her clothes she takes the stash of drugs. she meets up with lucy in a cafe. lucy's van gets taken and they then have to get the bus to go to cork. meanwhile a man has been kidnapped by two young men and they ring his wife for some ransom money.she offers them more money if they kill him. very good book funny in places.

I recieved this book from a hostel care taker when I was staying at a forgotten hostel in Rome in 2001. I still have the book to this day. I read the book on a train ride from Rome to Ancona and remember that it was about an ex model and a gangster. Nothing to impressionable about the story line, obviously. None the less I remember liking it, as it was an easy read.

Found this book hiding in my cupboard and thought oh well, nothing else to read. It was great, very amusing and such a chapter of events with a surprising twist at the end. loved the last few lines of the book. Gave it to a friend to read.
