About the author

Dr. John D. Harvey is Dean and Professor of New Testament at Columbia International University Seminary & School of Ministry in Columbia, SC. He earned his Doctor of Theology degree from Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto. His previous books include Listening to the Text: Oral Patterning in Paul’s Letters, Greek is Good Grief: Laying the Foundation for Exegesis and Exposition, and Anointed with the Spirit and Power: A biblical theology of Holy Spirit Empowerment. He is an ordained teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America and is actively involved in pulpit supply. He has served cross-culturally in Europe and Africa.

This was my eighth book on the Holy Spirit. It was great how the author tied in all of the Bible to explain how the Bible teaches about the empowering of the Holy Spirit. I was hitting notes throughout. It was different than all the scholarly books I have read and totally applicable. I really learned a lot from it. Highly recommended

This book was kind of like a survey of parts of the Bible to highlight the work of the Spirit in a person.

I was disappointed he didn't really discuss the power of the Spirit in relation to charismata. He kind of glosses over it.

Nevertheless, it was still a worthwhile read and helped me appreciate the Spirit more, appreciate God more. To live in the Spirit, so that God's power can be seen working in me, so that God can be seen living in me!
