⭐️3.9/5 I randomely picked this up one day and ended up eating it upppp! It’s definitely centered around smut but that’s also important to the plot soo….you’ll see. Basically, in this world, monsters have human pets, BUT not in the bad way! They rescue them from abusive or dangerous situations and keep them to take care of and *pleasure* for the rest of their time! This is a wild one so don’t take it too seriously;)

So this was disappointing. There’s a key in the beginning which translates certain words/phrases from monster to English, however, having to stop to translate multiple sentences in a scene is distracting and after a few chapters I gave up and decided I’d just rather not know.
I’m a pretty big believer in continuity and the plot is initially explained as the monsters saving humans from enslavement by another ruling (evil?) class of human. Okay 👍 I’m down. Except these humans have tails. Tails. Why? Where did they come from? Is this an alternate earth? Or another planet? Or in this way in the future when we’ve grown tails? I need an explanation.
These two don’t know each other’s languages but they fall helplessly in love through earth shifting sex? Hmm. 🤔 I don’t know, maybe I’m being nitpicky but I need more story to make that jump.

Love hate relationship
I loved this book as much as I couldn't stand it. There were many "ick" scenes that I had to skim over or try to ignore.
Pros: Back door stuff, instant mutual attraction, bondage, milking, affection for each other, big "piece", dominance.
Cons: The whole pet thing was the worst. I think the author took it a bit too far. So far in fact, that I thought a guy wrote it, but if that were the case the MMC wouldn't have been a big hunky hotty with a massive "piece". (If you understand, then you understand.) So the guy doesn't actually feed her. Not food anyways, and for some reason (one I've heard many guys try to claim) "it" nourishes her and she needs nothing else. Not even water apparently 🤔 Not only that, but she calls it "soup", which kinda makes me not want to eat my soup right now 🤢 (guys in books can taste like cotton candy all they want, I know how it is irl.)
In turn, he will pretty much keel over if he doesn't get his milk... From her. Which doesn't really disturb me, but it doesn't make sense, either. Like, until they were even allowed to get their "pets" where the heck was the milk coming from?
The way the humans are treated is seriously demeaning. They aren't allowed to dress "properly"; their bits always exposed. They do "things" in public, which is a serious con for me. They are made to walk on all fours (which would deform a human after a while and cause serious back pain, even with all the padding), and the humans actually act like it. They: preen when given a compliment and a treat (I know we all love compliments... And treats... but the way they did it with a vitamin and a head pat was... Ick), male humans just willy nilly (haha, see what I did there?) try to "mount" any female in public like he's an actual dog, the FMC would put her "paws" up like a dog begging for a treat, and they preened while getting groomed (wth kinda brush was he using? Sure seemed like it covered her entire body, like he was bathing a horse. Are we sure these are humans?)
I think I mostly hated how the monsters thought they were "saving" the humans by enslaving them. Yes, they are better cared for, if not demeaned constantly. I mean, the whole time the FMC thought she was saying his actual name and he just told her it was "Master" and he mostly called her "pet" and not in a cutesy way. It was like they didn't think the humans were sentient, and couldn't take care of themselves. Such as, I know in olden times if a slave was freed they sometimes kept serving their master because they new nothing else, or at least, that's what GOT taught me, lol, buuuut this was so much worse. Like, the humans were literally fine with all this. I mean... The FMC was kinda dumb (and I don't mean innocent, though she was a virgin, but I don't mean that kind of innocent. She was practically, no, not practically, she actual DID hump him right after they met.) So, I just have to imagine that this is a "cartoon" and "normal" animal people are walking their "pets". Sounds legit.
Oh, and there was no pregnancy (which is yes, a con for me.) and the story just... Ends. They never learn each others languages (which didn't make sense at all. How do you know they asked for help if you can't speak their language? How have you been fighting a war without learning anything? How do you know you weren't slaughtering innocent's? And I mean, none of the Monsters could speak the Human language.) All in all, I was expecting the Monsters to realize "Hey! These are actual people that should be wearing clothes and walking on two feet and this is actually my love/roommate! Maybe I should actually treat them like an equal. Or, I don't know, ask their permission before we turn the females into cattle?"
And like I said, no pregnancy, lol. So yeah, sorry for the long shpeal, but I noticed a lot of people don't give a lot of details in their reviews. Sure, they listed their pros, but not the cons, or at least not the ones I feel people should know. They also described this as "different" and "interesting," which probably means they're either new to monster smut, only read the cozy stuff, or probably don't watch a lot of monster h*nta* 😏

Fun and steamy
This book was enjoyable, but maybe a little too enjoyable? I went in blind, having picked it up only because of the intriguing cover. This book definitely toes the line between fun/imaginative and tabooish. I would say the cover saying "edgy monster romance" hits the nail on the head.
The two MCs, Garonn and Vanya are totally unexpected. He's fresh off the winning side of a war, and has been promised a human pet to rehabilitate after a supposed life of maltreatment. His job? Spoiler his new pet in every way imaginable.
Vanya is weary at first of the new man that's entered the house where she lives, but Garonn has a tender touch so she soon finds herself trusting him more and more. These two bond so quickly and soon finds themselves exploring and enjoying each other's bodies. They're hesitant, not quite sure if they're doing the right thing, but overall these two go with the flow of it all.
There's an abundance of...ahem...bodily fluids...that come into play, but this author makes it sexy and enjoyable. While this book was fun, it was a pretty basic plot of fun, sexy exploration, and learning to trust.

DNF at 48%. I thought I’ll be able to get through it but nope.
So don’t get me wrong, I love smut and no plot novellas. They’re great as a palette cleanser. But when you have a heroine of mentality of someone really really underage and a monster using her as he wants, even when she can’t say no cause she’s drugged up, that screams pedo, rape, beastiality and some other disturbing themes that should not have a place on a paper, or being marketed to romance book readers. Market it to horror fanatics, please.
Also what’s up with the going back and forth with translating? It was so annoying, I’d literally would just dnf for that fact…

All the kinks! It was well edited from what I remember of this, but I read it purely for trying to figure out why it was a top 10 best seller for so long.
I still can’t figure it out but hey. I think this was my first book with DD/lg aspect. But it also had hucow flavorings so I was confused about these kinks together. But I suppose kinks don’t have to make sense to everyone. All that’s needed is for someone somewhere to find it hot. 🤷🏻♀️ Vive La diferance
