I believe in love at first sight, but is there such a thing as a fake fiancé at first sight?
As the only remaining single woman in a family of gold-digging, marry-rich overachievers, I get desperate and declare that the Viking-Highlander hockey star at my cousin’s wedding is my fiancé. (We’d kept it hush-hush to not steal her thunder. Wink, wink.)
He's either been hit in the head with a puck or he's super stubborn because he refuses to play his part until my mother gives him a disapproving down-the-nose look. (This ignites a fire in his green eyes, which makes the butterflies in me dance a jig.)
Just when I think it’s time to return to the dating board, he makes a proposal to go along with my scheme. Not that kind of proposal, though I wouldn’t object—the goalie is dreamy in a Northern Lights fantastical way. (He needs to get married to make good on a family promise for his inheritance.)
The grump has mojo, but fortunately, I’m made of sunshine and moxie. With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, we need all the good luck we can get because my family is on to me, claiming my fake fiancé has a secret.
So do I...and it’s that I’m smitten. He can deny his feelings until the end of the rainbow, but that’s a load of blarney and I’m going to prove it, even if it involves some shamrock shenanigans.

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Margo & Beau’s points of view
-Margo’s family (mainly the females) demean her, her job, & her single status at any given chance
-it is mentioned that a character’s parent used them in their younger years (had them in a job/field they didn’t want to be in) & it strained their relationship since
Review:
This was so cute! I loved that Beau stood up for Margo at any chance he got and helped her self esteem grow. I loved that Margo wasn’t a hockey fan before meeting Beau & that though her friend tried explaining the game to her she still didn’t get it entirely. 😅😂 It made her more real when it comes to not really having an interest in something but trying because someone you know likes it & you want to try to understand it. I loved that the marriage of convenience part of the story didn’t stay long (as in they decided to get married for real instead) and that though the whole fake relationship situation came to light, it didn’t affect the couple’s real relationship going forward (having other people find out it wasn’t real from the start).
Summary:
Margo wants to marry for love and love alone, unlike her other family members who married their husbands for their bank accounts. But when she’s demeaned again and again for being single and working to make her own living, Margo finds herself telling them all a fib. Margo claims that the hockey player beside her is her fiancé and they’ve been secretly together for awhile, but didn’t want to ruin her relative’s wedding by spilling the news too soon. The only thing is, Margo barely got a chance to try to convince him to play along, so she doesn’t know if he’ll go along with this scheme as she lays things out for her family…
When some woman comes up to him at a wedding and desperately tries to convince him to pretend to be her fiancé, Beau doesn’t know what to think. But then he sees how her family treats her and can’t help from standing up for her. The wonder in her eyes at his choice pulls Beau in to the point he doesn’t think he’ll want to let her go when the night ends. And when he’s reminded of the deadline quickly approaching for receiving his inheritance, Beau wonders if Margo might be willing to up the ante. If they were to enter into a marriage of convenience, maybe they’d both finally find some relief from their family’s nagging and have a chance to fall for each other for real…
This book didn’t start out at all how I expected… it ended even sweeter! When we first meet Margo, she is waiting in line at her go to Manhattan coffee shop and is eyeing a scone! As soon as her friend Juniper arrives, we find out the latest, about Margo needing to go back to her hometown for a cousin’s wedding that she is loathing! The bright side of the morning is that she was gifted some tickets to that evening’s hockey game which happens to be playing against her hometown team. While the game is a success for the out-of-town team, Margo counts it a win as she got to spy some eye candy before going back to Nebraska. Her life is currently in disarray, and she will take any leg up she can get!
Beau is glad to have had a great game, but going back to Cobbiton, knowing he will have to attend his cousin’s wedding isn’t so high on his priority list! He is also reminded of the fact that his romantic life is at low point and has a little over a year left to make a difference in it or else his mother will get involved. Once at the reception, a beautiful girl in green says something to change his whole attitude on end, ‘here you are!’ Famous last words as this fake relationship gets an awkward jump start.
While things aren’t what they seem to the average person, Margo and Beau realize they have more in common than they initially thought. And thanks to Beau’s quick thinking a relationship of convenience is born! The only problem with their plan is that she’s based out of NYC and he’s constantly traveling for the Nebraska Knights hockey team.
This story may not be overly long, but it packs a punch and makes me excited for more Knights books! This team is becoming very familiar and much like the characters I feel like I’ve found a place amongst them and their WAGs! This pairing both have had some major life hurdles, but the fact that they work through that with each other is absolutely beautiful! They found their cake twin and I have high hopes for them and am optimistic I will run into them again in the next book! Well done Ellie!
Loved this one SO much! Quiet, steady Beau who utterly supported Margo? Swoon. I love how much they complemented and were right for each other. Fun, sweet hockey series🏒☘️🤎.
Oh this was another fun Hokey romcom where another Nebraska Knights player is given a chance to find his perfect match. This guy has some past baggage and he is kind of a grump but I love the protective side of him that comes out in this story. He's got lots of reasons for his closed off secret keeping personality. What he didn't realize he needed was a woman with a sunny caring personality to help him open up.
I find it amazing that Margo Leann Cabot is so sweet and caring considering the horrible mother and sister that she has. All they do is badger and belittle her at every opportunity. When she has to attend her cousin's wedding they are ready to mock her for not bringing a plus one so she tells them she is bringing someone with her. When she gets to the wedding she recognizes the goalie from the only hockey game she has ever seen. So when her family starts up their attack on her, she claims that he is her plus one. Beaumont Hammer has no idea what is going on and he plans to deny her claim until he sees what they are doing to her and he steps in to protect her. Then he realizes that they can help one another if she agrees to be his fake fiance. He can finally stop his mother's plans for him to marry some pop star.
The story just takes off from here to such a touching growth of the relationship between Margo and Beau. He is good for her as he gives her the encouragement she doesn't get from her family. She is good for him as she gives him the care he never got from his family. I cannot believe that her sister just wouldn't stop badgering her not believing she was good enough for Beau.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Margo and the Faux Good Luck Beau Book Four in the Nebraska Knights Holiday Hockey series By Ellie Hall @elliehallauthor
Margo is desperate to be anything but like her ‘gold-digging, marry-rich’ family, moving to New York City become an event planner. To silence the endless derision from her family, she conscripts Beau, a hockey player for the Nebraska Knights, to play the part of her fiancé.
When Beau sees how viscous her family is, his protectiveness and hatred of bullies kicks in. With demons of his own and an inheritance to claim, he agrees to the ruse. Upping the ante to a marriage of convenience.
When her big break as a wedding planner is called off, she reluctantly returns to her hometown, home of the Nebraska Knights. As Margo and Beau spend time together, the idea of marriage becomes less convenient and more real. They turn her failed St. Patrick’s Day event into a wedding of their own. But her family, still convinced it’s fake, try to stop it.
Review: Margo and Beau are easy to empathize with from the start. Both are wounded souls who need each other more than they realize. The author deals with the topic of familial emotional abuse in a very real, yet sensitive manner.
The development of each character’s lives before the meet-cute is excellent. The pacing is neither rushed nor drawn out, keeping the reader engaged and not wanting to put the book down.
Lovers of clean, sweet, closed-door romances will find this hockey romcom, as well as the rest of the series, a fun read from the beginning to the happily ever after.
This is a triumph. I’m blessed to read this fine book I’m impressed. Ellie Ha.. always gives us a good time and this excellent storytelling is sublime. Love at first sight? This one’s outta sight good ,like I knew that it would be. A family of gold diggers and she doesn’t want a bar of it. Then there’s this Viking - Highlander hockey star who needs a fake date too . So they fake engagement at first meet. Crazy it maybe bit this is sure sweet. A real treat to feast your eyes upon . Soon this green eye hockey guy is playing ball . Well IceHockey ,but he’s being amenable and does the romance dance with last single lady in a family of high achievers . Well in the marrying into money kind. She claims his family has a secret, she doesn’t know the half of it ! But he needs a proposal to work too so he can make good on a promise to his family . But then he’s done ,he wants her as his no. 1 and along the dreamy ,fake in love way they get a bit closer without delay . Hooray for love and heavens above they stay that way.Yay! This curvy girl puts her hockey hunk through his paces before he’s even had chance to tighten his laces ! Swooning and all aflutter ,those skates are sharp but so is she . Those sweet kisses ecstasy.Wonderful prose as ever by Ellie Hall who is mighty clever at these sort of tropes . She don’t need to telling what to do she ain’t on the ropes. Very well written romance with a lot of smiles . I had a great big grin as wide as a crocodile’s .Loved every page!

What's not to love with Ellie's Nebraska Knights Hockey series?
I loved the chemistry between Beau and Margo, they worked so well together. This book is amazing and brilliant, it has been written extremely well.
The way Ellie introduces her characters to the reader brings them to life. Sometimes you have to stop and remember that it's a book, but honestly, they feel so real that you feel you know them. I highly recommend this book to all. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Funny, Happily Ever After, Informative, Page-turner, Romantic, Realistic, Wonderful characters, Fake fiancé.
Margo is a different breed when it comes to the people in her family. She wants to marry for love when they all want to marry for money. During her cousin’s wedding she declares the Beau her fiancé.
I believe in love at first sight, but is there such a thing as a fake fiancé at first sight?
As the only remaining single woman in a family of gold-digging, marry-rich overachievers, Margo wants something different. At her cousin’s wedding she gets desperate and tells her family that she is engaged to the hockey star. Turns out the hockey star is the goalie for the Nebraska Knights, Beau. Beau a man of few words does something no one has ever done for Margo before…stands up for her. Since he played the part at the wedding for Margo, he has a different kind of proposal that will help him out of a family bind. Will she accept?
I just love this series. The Nebraska Knights team and family feel they have. Beau has to be my favorite character in this story. His quiet nature and really only saying something when he truly means it. The way he makes Margo feel like she is truly amazing! The way they balance each out is so sweet.
This is book four in the Nebraska Knights Holiday Hockey Romance novella series.
A surprise love from a surprising encounter This is such a fun sweet story. Margo’s family has told her for years that she is barely passable and that you should only marry for money. In an effort to stop their talk she tells them she has a boyfriend that will be at her cousin’s wedding. At the reception, when faced with her family loudly declaring they don’t believe she has a boyfriend, she grabs a stranger, Beau, asking him to play along. Then she announces he’s her fiancée. When Beau, a very good looking professional hockey player, sees the behavior of her family he decides to not only play along but intervene to protect Margo. Thus begins a relationship where both carry hidden scars and traumas but both also have strength and the desire to help each other with the problems each is facing. As they address their difficulties, things change between them. Can they make things work in spite of their pasts and families? I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
Beau is a perfect match for Margo, as they learned for themselves at their mutual cousins' wedding. Beau recognized Margo's family's verbally and emotionally abusive behavior, and he refuses to let them get away with it unchallenged. Margo is hesitant to fully trust Beau, despite how attracted to him she is, because she is waiting for the other shoe to drop, as it always has done in her life. They are a case of balancing and bringing out the very best qualities in each other. She is the softness and bubblyness he lacks. He is the rock and fortress wirh the security she needs to thrive. I thought they were so darling together. And the hockey was also good. There're changes in the Knights' roster as players reach the end of their career or their priorities change and a different team better matches their plans.
I purchased a copy of this story and voluntarily chose to share my review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What starts as a fake engagement arrangement quickly turns to the proposal of a marriage of convenience.
Margo and the Faux Good Luck Beau is the fourth book in the Nebraska Knights Holiday Hockey Romance series. This contemporary romance is closed door and can be read as a stand-alone.
Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes and while their reason behind needing to get married is too wild, I was all in from the first chapter. Both Margo and Beau come from unsupportive families. They get to know each other quite quickly but they seem to find in one another the encouragement that they were not getting before. The book is fast paced but the author was able to squeeze in enough background of the MCs that nothing is too rushed.
While each book in this series is centered around a different holiday they can really be read at any time. The season isn’t the main focus. This is my favorite of the series so far and I can’t wait to see whose story we get next.
Margo and Beau’s families were awful. Hers enjoyed putting her down and his used him for money. But despite everything she’s been through Margo has a sunny outlook and is talkative while Beau is a man of few words and grumpy. She needs a fake fiance to get her family off her back and he needs a wife to gain his inheritance. But what started out as convenience quickly turns to real feelings if only she can get past her insecurities caused by years of being put down and if he learned to communicate better before they lose each other. I loved how his hockey family came together to support Margo and build her up confidence. I liked her friend and I’m hoping to hear more about her in a future story.
Sometimes the saying "fake it until you make it" actually works! In this engrossing story of a family that treats her horrifically, Margo is able to convince a pro hockey player she has never met to stand in as her fake fiancé while at a cousin's wedding reception. What happens next is totally unexpected and pure genius. The characters are fantastic-constantly surprising the reader with new depths and emotions. I loved learning about Beau's childhood and family while reeling in shock at his secrets. The way both Margo and Beau remained positive and supportive of each other was incredible. So many surprises await the reader! Don't miss this delectable book!!!
I read the blurb for this and was instantly intrigued with the set up. It did not disappoint. I loved Margo's character growth throughout the book as Beau worked to build her up into someone who could stand up with some support and on her own. I loved Beau's "my fiance" moments, I'm a big sucker for a guy who stands up for the people around him. I loved Beau's ability to use limited words and get his point across. This was a great story, well put together (not surprising from this author), and a quite enjoyable read. You do not need to have read the others in the series to enjoy this dual pov stand alone book. Enjoy ASAP! I read an early copy, all thoughts are my own.
This story is delightful! I enjoyed this story so much I couldn’t put the book down. Margo has been made to feel very low about herself thanks to her mom and sister. When they make her feel forced to have a date for her cousin’s wedding, she grabs an unexpecting hot hockey star Beau. I loved how he played along, was so supportive and as time went on, oh so swoony and sweet. I absolutely loved this story of Beau and Margo, sweet, loving, lucky, heartbreaking and ends with a wonderful happily ever after. Grab this story, it is a great read!
This is a wonderful story about Margo who is doing everything she knows to do to prove her family wrong about her. They belittle her and berate her constantly. They have each married for money, even her mother. Margo vows she will never marry for money. Beau is the grumpy goalie of the hockey team who hardly ever speaks and never smiles. When they end up at a wedding, they pretend to be together. Their ruse even goes as far as being engaged. See what happens in their story since she lives in New York and he is in Hockey Town.
Stoic. It's amazing the vast number of ways we shield ourselves from past hurts, traumas, and/or shame and embarrassment. Beau remains stoic in most situations. Margot pretends all is 'just fine'. Together, they help the other through their messiness. I would have a horrible negative complex if a guy asked me to marry him and then basically ghosted me for the next several weeks. Life is H.A.R.D. and ugly and messy and beautiful and wonderful and joyful. Beau and Margot beautifully face each...together.
Margo is down on her luck and her awful mother and sister seem to want to keep her down. Beau is a strong silent type. Emphasis on the silent, but when a beautiful woman pretends to be his fiancée while being verbally attacked by her family members, he opens his mouth. I just loved Beau’s protective nature and how he helped Margo see herself more clearly. He still had his clueless moments, but the romance was sweet, and the character growth was rewarding. I want to read more books in the series now.
I picked this one up as another St. Patrick’s Day read, and it was such a cute story! I loved watching Margo and Weston’s relationship grow, from their unexpected first meeting to the way he always shows up for her when she needs it most. Their connection felt so genuine, and Weston’s determination to help Margo see her own worth was absolutely beautiful.
While the story is lighthearted and sweet, there’s also some depth, especially in how Margo navigates the impact of her toxic family. Though her healing journey moves quickly for the sake of the story, it’s still so heartwarming to see Weston champion her every step of the way.
Overall, this was a great read—romantic, charming, and full of heartfelt moments!
Eeeek🤭 this was so cute, I said it but I’ll say it again, I love a good grumpy man🤭 especially if he plays hockey👀 He was the sweetest grumpy ever to Margo, and saved her so.many.times. That man🥰🫠🥹💞💗😆🤭 Margo is the sunshine in the story and in Beau’s life🥹 you’ll love her if you read it😆🤭
tropes: 🍀grumpy x sunshine 🍀protective MMC 🍀 marriage of convenience-ish 🍀 fake fiancé 🍀 curvy FMC 🍀 small town 🍀 hockey romance
spice: non-descriptive kisses only language: no swearing
Margo and the Faux Good Luck Beau is an awesome, clean, sweet, fake fiancé, marriage of convenience, sports, romantic comedy. This well written book is one of the best I have read. I loved how Beau stood up for Margo and supported her becoming her best self. Her family consists of over the top gold-diggers! Margo supports Beau as well. There was not a moment when I could put this amazing book down!
I enjoyed reading this fun romcom because it was sweet and centered around hockey. I enjoyed the characters of Margo and Beau and how they came up with the mutually benefitting fake fiance which led to more. It made for an interesting story full of secrets to unravel because Beau was her gook luck beau and she was his good luck charm. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
These two killed it with the fake relationship trope. They were quick witted and I truly felt for Margo. She definitely has had a rough relationship with her family and I’m so glad she has someone in her corner fighting for her. While Beau and Margo both have pretty crappy families, their found family in his hockey team will make you smile. They are fiercely loyal and support their friends. This is a dual pov, clean romance. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone novel.
I loved Margo and Beau, they were the perfect sunshine to grumpy pair. I felt bad for them both because their families are not the best, and I loved seeing them support each other when push came to shove. I love what started out as convenience but quickly turns to real feelings. I loved how his hockey family came together to support Margo and him when they needed it. I couldn’t put this down and I’m so glad I got to read this.
This adorable story was sweet and swoony in all the best ways. Once again Ellie Hall has given her readers a wonderfully cute story from start to finish. It was a delight and I loved Margo and Beau's love story! Amazing characters that were strong, independent and so loveable. A fun and wonderful book with romance, adventure, satisfying twists and a happily ever after.
I loved Margo from the very beginning! Beau is the perfect stoic hockey player. Their relationship is laugh out loud funny, except when dealing with her family and her insecurities. My favorite parts are how Beau protects her and lovingly treats her, while Margo lights up and lightens his life. It's all just so cute.
Enjoyable and funny read within the Nebraska Knights world. I liked these 2 characters so much and there was a bit of a twist with who Beau was that I wasn't expecting (but I'm not gonna give it away.) Suffice it to say, he wasn't who I anticipated, but I loved that Margo and Beau found each other and fell in love.
What was this book? This book was a muddled mess of a plot and characters. There is no consistency, development, or chemistry. Fox is a sweet, genuine guy. Margo is well, Margo. I'm not sure I even care enough to break down why this book is a pass for me. It just is. It's not good or really worth the read.
Beau and Margo may have thrown themselves together by happenstance, but they’re adorable! I love how they built each other up and helped each other overcome terrible family trauma.
