EngineMasters: Retribution

Rate this book
A Nation divided. An endless civil war. A pilot who can end it all.

Newly graduated EngineMaster Dawn Fletcher is eager to take the fight to the rebel Islanders alongside her clan-mates. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to team up with the proud, stubborn Cal Bassoli, a veteran Pilot who is no stranger to pain and loss.

With no time to prepare before the next Islander attack, Dawn and Cal must quickly set aside their differences and learn to trust one another if they want to master their battle engine, survive the engagement, and perhaps even discover what the Islanders are really up to.

If they fail, it could spell disaster for the entire Nation.

EngineMasters is an action-packed mecha military sci-fi adventure that's like Top Gun Maverick meets Pacific Rim meets Battletech. Don't miss this epic story of comradeship, perseverance, and plenty of relentless mech vs. mech combat!

The Islanders and Mainlanders battle competing mechs

Each mech carrying an Engineer to control power relays and the power core while a Pilot navigates and fights the mech's weaponry. The EngineMasters working together present formidable offensive skills and defensive maneuvers. The Islanders battle against the Mainlander forces, each considering the other as the aggrieved party in their longtime aggressions with the other.
Intense action with mechs battling each other and the crews controlling these giant armored mechanical suits of armor, with giant weapons deployed against enemy installations and mechs. Great action and intense interplay between Engineers and Pilots sharing a tight cockpit. Great characters and storyline bring the furious action into your mind. This is a good read.

I like big mechs an' I can not lie.
It's great to read some fresh new fast-paced fiction about giant battling robots, exploding shells and backstabbing politics, and this series is shaping up to have some epic action coming down the line later in the series as the mainlanders and islanders wage brutal war.

It starts off with a bang, with tragedy and warfare and an engineer and pilot from different clans forced to join forces to pilot a giant mech, before getting drawn into larger geopolitical events and uncovering lies they've been told about their own nation's history.

SF novel with giant robots, called Engines, battling it out similar to Battletech. Each Engine is run by enginemasters, a pilot and engineer, and they are organised into units called clans. The book works best during the battle sequences. The main characters are the pilot Cal who has just lost his engineer and the engineer Dawn who has just lost her clan. By the end of the book I was not sure which side they wanted to fight for and where the story was going.

Lackluster story, and characters that are not relatable to me at all. I love mecha stories and series, but this one is just plain boring.
