I can't believe Muneyuki Kaneshiro really just went - oh no, dudebros didn't get it, let me spell it out for them: t h e s e t w o a r e r e a l l y G A Y
At first, this spin-off series seemed entirely pointless, with all the tedious matches being presented to us at the onset. Its only strong point was that we got to see Nagi and Reo's beginnings in more depth, as their relationship was one of the main focuses. But everything really started to kick off after the Team V vs. Team X match. I really enjoyed that match because it showed us the birth of Nagi's ego, that it wasn't only Isagi who created the spark that led to its creation, but also the environment of Blue Lock itself.
Team V. vs. Team Z was also very intriguing to follow since I've already seen it play out in the main series, except that it's now from Nagi's perspective. This means that we now get to see the reasoning behind why Nagi says what he does and what he was thinking while he was saying those things. Especially when he left Reo for Isagi. The misunderstanding of why Nagi did that was crucial to their relationship and their future together. Oh, and I loved the little detail of Nagi and Reo seeing each other in every close duo that they met, and then simultaneously missing each other.
I'm not sure whether the quality of the soccer in this volume has improved or if I just got used to the writing not being as first-person-centered as it was before, but I'm guessing that it's probably a mixture of both, leaning more on the former, though.
ch 10 this chapter is called sprout no doubt bc of fuckass isagi so i already feel the hatred bubbling up like an endless well but team z DOES have bachira and chigiri and kunigami <3 reo: huh that's cool let's try that then executes it flawlessly that's MY chameleon, completely impossible irl and i despise when isagi does it but my queen reo can do no wrong bachira doing something insanely cool like messi level that's why he's my favorite character and though we rarely get to see him do such things in the future i will cherish it now nagi like dang dawg i'm just trying to have a convo and pitch-isagi as per usual turns into a demon and becomes so very easily detestable soccer is fun huh
ch 11 "good boy isagi i'll give you a pat on the head later" HUH? did i miss this completely when i read it from isagi's perspective and why did knsr make them all so freaky kuon just diving on nagi lmao "you're the best bachira" that's right isagi i'll agree with u on this one thing nagi getting his drive on and reo being like hot damn
ch 12 i forgot rin did allat bc he's emolord prime 2nd kiryoa panel even if he's with kurona and his terrible haircut i still don't understand how it's possible to score 100 goals in 90 minutes like lewa at his best did 5 in 9 mins and even sorloth for atleti today did 3 in 4 mins but 100 in 90 is crazy nagi not telling reo who he's waiting for bc he thinks reo will get mad like hm... smtg u wanna tell us nagi?? bachisagi right in front of him and nagi gets it almost immediately and then compares the 2 to him and reo so if he gets it, it's crazy that he says 1) isagi is indispensable to bachira 2) thinks they're like him and reo 3) tries to get isagi to leave bachira and 4) when that doesn't work bc ofc bachisagi aren't gonna split up, he splits himself off from reo. like u JUST thought it'd be impossible to get isagi away from bachira, you compared their relationship to yours, and then you tear yourself away from reo?? zero self awareness lol this is the isagi who still sticks with bachira, but after ch 301 he's def gonna do the opposite and crush MY FAV UGH he apologizes to reo in his head... say it OUT LOUD and thus their miscommunication begins he dumped him without saying all his thoughts out loud like omg what was he even thinking third selection begins, the most brutal arc and the second most drawn out and neverending after the NEL arc
ch 13 reo never stops crying and i think he deserves everything seeing how good rin is in the 3rd selection, it's almost absurd how much he loses to isagi later on and i love aryu my glam king they took bachira YEPPP iktr "if you want me, steal me back" i forget about this bachisagi line but remembering it has me thinking knsr maybe does know what he's doing yaoi-wise
ch 14 actually one of the most iconic scenes "you can't do anything without reo!" "and you can't do anything without bachira" they clocked each other. but i fear knsr is letting bachisagi fall prey to rinsagi (which idm) and kaisagi (i want to gag, even tho the kainess agenda is getting pushed and i wanna keep that ball rolling) i forgot how nice kunigami was it's been so LONG since he's been himself i miss him but anyways kunigiri and reo are literally THE family naruhaya gets disqualified and isagi and nagi take barou not reo getting flashbacks of him and nagi when he sees kunigiri which we got CRUMBS of in ch 301 "i hate myself right now" good lord nagi this is what you've done to reo who's always been cheerful and happy and confident in himself reo slapping nagi's hand away like yes stand up for yourself! it's rly reminding me of kaiser slapping isagi's hand away tho lol
I love that we can see the story from Nagi's point of view and also from Reo's point of view. Their internal monologues are brilliant and it helps give character development to both of them, but I have to accept that things are already becoming repetitive since the story doesn't change muc the main difference is that the matches develop faster.
The final game of the first selection is underway and it’s time for Nagi to have his first big breakthrough (thanks to Isagi)
But then we speed on into the second selection where Nagi makes a choice that splinters his oldest relationship. And we speed through the first two matches so by the time we get to the next volume we can have all the bitter ex drama.
I don’t usually read into the gay subtext in sports anime (I honestly don’t care), but that subtext feels like they wrote it in bold with a sharpie where Nagi and Reo are concerned.
nagi’s so weird because he has these amazing plays but he doesn’t visualise them beforehand; he just plays off instinct - i guess that’s his prodigy side coming out. but now, in current blue lock timeline, he’s been nerfed because of his lack of creativity. i think he is creative! he just doesn’t know how to flow it right!
This is of the spin-off of the original Blue Lock and it focuses on Nagi. He is very...depressed? Is that the word? He is bored of soccer, I guess and wonders why he is going through all this. He only starts to love the game when he has to try his hardest. I guess anything can get boring if you are always winning. :)
amazing as always, its so good to see the matchs from the others team perspective, now that i don’t hate reo maybe i relate to him and i understand him 😢😢
