It is also a western idea. An idea that, in my view, is out of synch with Islam today in many parts of the world. Siffiqui reports that there is a movement of sorts among Moslem women in the west to voluntarily wear the hijab as a sign of identity and faith. I fail to see this as a nod to multicultural pluralism or to the non-Islamic world.
