& Then They Loved

Rate this book
A hate-to-love, dual timeline, workplace romance with snarky banter and groveling.

VERA TALWAR has one goal. To take care of the only man who’s truly loved her—her grandfather. With a new promotion, having the financial means to make this goal a reality is finally within reach. Until the return of the one person she vowed never to forgive leaves her reeling. They may work together, might fall into old habits, could even indulge in the red-hot lust that still flares between them. But she’ll never forget one cardinal rule.

She hates Vihaan, and she always will.

VIHAAN OBEROI is many things. A tabloid darling, a playboy prince turned media mogul, a charming flirt who’d accidentally achieved success. Proficient at hiding his wounds behind a carefree exterior, his mask slips when faced with the fiery woman who’d betrayed him. He swears never to give her power over him again. Even if her touch marks his skin and her presence makes his world come alive. Even if her anger makes him wonder why she treats him like he’d broken her heart instead of the other way around. No, he won’t fall in love with Vera.

Even if it feels like she’s still. . . his.

enjoyed this story & the growth both mcs went through. i'm always glad to find new desi rep books so this was perfect!! vera and vihaan both betrayed each other back in highschool, 14 years prior - now he's her boss and they hate each other. they sleep together to try to get it out of their systems but can't get enough of each other. the pacing was done really well and it wasn't rushed or too slow. i loved that it was set in india. the enemies to lovers to enemies to coworkers to lovers was done amazing. when they hated each other it was actual hate but not cruelty and i loved that. i feel like it makes sense to hate someone you find attractive and have history with... heh heh

anyways- this was so bingeable, i literally read more than 50% in like an hour or so. add this to your tbr if you want a desi, enemies to lovers.

debating on whether or not to write a full review

thank you to the author and swipe the book pr for an e-arc

One of the very few books I've read of any Indian author and absolutely loved it. The first 50% of the book gives Is Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (IPKKND- an Indian serial) vibes.

& Then They Loved is a second chance romance with boss/employee dynamics where Vihaan and Vera meet each other fifteen years after a heartbreaking breakup caused by misunderstandings and other disastrous situations. Still they have intense and electric chemistry between them. Their banter was funny yet sweet lol (I always imagined them as two cats fighting lmao). Vihaan's grovelling was so beautiful to read 🥹🥹💖. Definitely recommend if you want to read second chance romance with a mix of desi bollywood themes.

The prologue gave a heart attack: the FMC's boyfriend was telling her that she's a whore, now he's fed up with her, gonna discard her, he wishes all he taught her would be used on other men.
Turned to the first Chapter and found out that that guy is actually the MMC. Flew to goodreads to read the blurb and found out that there was a big misunderstanding, someone wanted them apart and that's why he was cruel with her 14 years earlier.

Actually, MMC was pretty obsessed with her, the moment they met again as a boss and employee. The enemies-to-lovers was real and vibing. The hate sex was scorching. He then started doing romantic gestures but the misunderstanding was not cleared up.

I got bored eventually because of the length. They should've talked sooner. Also, I was led to believe there was a villain who wanted them apart when they were teenagers but apparently MMC was a dumb ass. I guess this is a perfect novel for those who love the groveling trope because MMC walked through burning coals to earn her fucking forgiveness!

The best MF romance stories are the ones where the man is more in love with the woman. This is exactly that, and I ate it up.

Vera is an absolute boss. I can’t remember the last time I read an FMC this impressive. She’s smart, loyal, caring, responsible, and hardworking. She’s just a total badass—she doesn’t let anyone stand in her way and does everything with intention. I admired her character so much.

Vihaan was adorable with his golden retriever energy. However, he also knew how to get serious and create some steam. He demonstrated a lot of character growth, but what I appreciated most about his development was how he always gave full credit to Vera for making him a better person. From the time they were kids to when they reconnect as adults, she’s effortlessly keeps him in check just by being herself, and he gives her his entire soul in return. He’s so devoted to her and fights so hard to be there for her in every way. I love it.

I’m always a little skeptical of second-chance romances, but I think it felt valid for this story. It’s easy to see where the misunderstanding happened because, yeah, it did not look good. Could a proper conversation have solved things for this situation? Sure. But 1. How many 18 year olds have great communication skills? And 2. I still don’t think young Vihaan fully understood how much money was about survival for Vera—not only for herself, but for her grandfather, the only family she had left. She couldn’t abandon her responsibilities for anyone. Even if they had the chance to talk things out, I think he was still too closed-minded at the time to see where Vera was coming from and understand her choices. He didn’t fully grasp the differences between his lifestyle and Vera’s, or why they mattered.

Speaking of which, I love the way that social class is addressed throughout the book. Young Vera gave Vihaan his first wake-up call by telling him to check his privilege. Fast forward to the present day, Vihaan had wealth, but he wasn’t happy. While money itself may not bring happiness, it’s worth having because it has the ability to relieve stress. Vera was so happy to be able to spend time with her grandfather without worrying about working nonstop just to survive.

Even when they first discuss a second chance seriously, I don’t feel like Vihaan fully grasped that Vera didn’t want money for the luxury of it, or that she would ever accept job opportunities she didn’t earn. Her heart isn’t for sale. While he had reason to be confused by her past actions, his assumptions were insulting and humiliating—and they just proved that he didn’t really know her.

Once we got into the actual groveling, I WAS SAT. I love, love, love that Vera stood her ground—she wasn’t putting up with ANY bs from him. “I don’t hate myself enough to love you again”— OMG that line goes HARD. It was so devastating, but as much as I love Vihaan, he did not deserve quick forgiveness. Obviously, this man was COMMITTED to being with her. She was the only one for him, and he really put in the work to become worthy of her. I must say, his behavior at the end broke my heart a little (in the best way). He is SO in love with her and just knows all the right things to say with the actions to back it up.

That being said, something still felt like it was missing. I wish we got a little more clarity on whether he truly understood Vera’s point of view—everything she’s lived through and how it has influenced her decisions. I think we got a glimpse of it when he finally had a moment to take care of Mr. Talwar on his own and saw firsthand some of the work Vera had done alone, but I wanted a couple more moments demonstrating this level of understanding. This was a powerful story, and while I enjoyed the romance, this aspect holds me back from fully embracing it as a strong romance book.

I appreciate how the author discussed Parkinson’s disease with such a thoughtful approach. My heart shattered during Mr. Talwar’s interaction with Vihaan. There was so much care and intimacy in the writing—this moment really stood out to me.

I wish Vihaan’s relationship with his father had gotten a little more attention, though I liked how their future is left open-ended. Relationships take time to genuinely repair. One good conversation doesn’t heal years of hurt, and I appreciate how this is directly acknowledged.

The writing was lovely, and kind of poetic at times, with some really great metaphors. Although, what stood out most to me was how much vocabulary I was introduced to. This book had me looking up so many new words 🤓😭

Overall, this was an incredible story with great commentary on social class. Vihaan is DOWN BAD for Vera and miss girl KNOWS her worth. I love this couple, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you very much to Riya Iyer and Luna Literary Management for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I loved this book so, so much! The emotions—sadness, humor, romance—I felt while reading this book were OMG 🔥.

If you love ✨Second Chance Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Friends with Benefits, Office Romance, and Desi Romance✨, then this is a MUST-READ for you!

𝑆𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 ~

Vihaan and Vera were childhood rivals-turned-lovers and then lovers-turned-enemies. When Vihaan takes over a new company, he meets Vera again. At first, they try everything to avoid each other, but there's still a spark of attraction between them. Then, they start a friends with benefits arrangement, which eventually leads them to fall for each other. But their past still haunts them.

So, the question is:
Will they be able to overcome their flaws and their past?

𝑽𝑰𝑯𝑨𝑨𝑵 𝑶𝑩𝑬𝑹𝑶𝑰 ~

My first impression of him? A total jerk 🤡 and a manwhore. I hated how he labeled Vera a gold digger (you’ll understand why when you read the book), but I still didn’t like him much at first. However, as I kept reading his POV, I fell in love with him.

He was sincere, cute, and jealous too. And let me tell you, he GROVELED beautifully. I’ve read so many books where the author claims the MMC will grovel, but all he does is say sorry and act like the victim 😐. But in THIS book, the groveling was written so well—you’re going to LOVE IT! 😚

And trust me, guys, when you read Vihaan’s POV and see how much he loves Vera and what he does for her 😭—you’ll cryyy! OMG, he was so, so cute, and I’m so happy he got his happily ever after.

𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑨 𝑻𝑨𝑳𝑾𝑨𝑹 ~

I LOVE this girl so, so much! Now, this is a female lead I can actually relate to—she was strong, and she knew her worth 💅.

If someone insulted me and called me a whore, I would never forgive him easily. And Vera? She didn’t cave in right away either. She was 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴, and I just love her for that. But I’m also glad she forgave Vihaan and they got their happy ending because they deserved it.

✨ 𝒪𝓋𝑒𝓇𝒶𝓁𝓁 ✨

If you’re thinking of reading this, DON’T THINK—JUST GO FOR IT! It has everything.

This is the 3rd in the Ampersand Series and each one delivers a depth of romantic, familial, and platonic love that takes you on a journey from start to finish captivated and utterly hooked. Riya, the author, beautifully weaves an intricate tale of romance, friendship, and family to satisfaction. And every book I find myself inexplicably healing some part of me I didn’t realize needed healing in the most cathartic way possible with absolute baddie female leads and swoonworthy male leads.

I’ve never really gotten hate to love but the way Riya weaves this tale - it just clicks. She has a deep understanding of complicated nuances of emotions and human behavior that she’s able to turn complicated (dare I say seemingly messed up) situations and turn it towards a satisfying solution/ending. An incredible feat in and of itself.

Okay I’m done fangirling over the author, she really is my favorite in case you couldn’t tell! :P Now to the book itself!!!

I usually don’t annotate books but I couldn’t help highlighting every few pages the absolute gold author was spinning - from the creative and hilarious insults FL says to ML, to their banter, and confessions/realizations. It all had me kicking my feet, grinning like an idiot on the plane, and looking over my shoulder to see who might be eyeing the spicy smut on my kindle. So. Many. Good. Quotes.

The book started off on the FIRST CHAPTER on such a shocking note! I had no idea how ML was going to recover from that. But recover he did and so well (groveling so well and patiently being the anchor he’s always wanted to be for her before he spectacularly misunderstood things).

The pacing, the plot, the depth of storytelling, the smut, the dual timelines, the conflict and resolution - everything was perfection. The book was lacking for nothing. 5/5 stars doesn’t do this justice in my opinion. The plot was really plotting. The smut was really smutting. And that banter was REALLY bantering.

I could really go on and on - it’s already the longest review I’ve written - just go read it and you’ll fall in love with the characters and find your new favorite author too!

& Then They Loved by Riya Iyer

I didn't read first two book unfortunately, but I absolutely loved Vera and Vihaan's love story! The combination of enemies-to-lovers and office romance made it such an engaging read. Vera was an incredible character—strong, relatable, and easy to root for. Vihaan, on the other hand, had his moments of frustration, but by the end, I couldn’t help but adore their journey together. Their emotional pasts added so much depth to the story, making their love even more meaningful. Overall, it was a beautifully written romance that kept me hooked from start to finish!

Wow! Riya has done it again!
Vera and Vihaan's story plays from past to present, from love to hate and back again.
When Vera realises that her new boss is the man she hates more than anything, she's determined to ignore him and focus on her job. But her feelings are far stronger than she realised...
Vihaan is shocked to see Vera working at the company he has just taken over and vows to make her quit.
But he can't fight his feelings for
Together they try to overcome their pasts their fears and and find their happy ever after!
It's hard to say more without revealing too much, but this book, like the other two she has written, manage to be spicy, funny, beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time.

Now let me breathe for a second, because this book? THIS BOOK. I read the prologue and for a moment, I legit thought I might DNF. But holy hell, was I wrong. This book had me in a chokehold and I fell hard. It made me feel everything—swooning, sobbing, raging, and most importantly, absolutely obsession with Vihaan and Vera.

This story follows Vera and Vihaan, a couple who went from enemies to lovers to enemies to... well, you’ll have to read the book to find out what comes next.

Vera, my girl, is fierce as hell. Strong-willed, hard-working, and absolutely not here for anyone’s nonsense. If you mess with her, she will break your face, no questions asked.

And Vihaan? Oh my freaking GOD. I’m in love with him to a level I can’t even explain. He’s already holding the top spot on my 2025 book boyfriend list, and honestly, no one’s coming close. The man made mistake, big one, but the way he groveled? The way he loves Vera? The way he’s so shamelessly obsessed with her? I MELTED.

I usually hate miscommunication, but this book? It’s written so well that even the misunderstandings felt real and heartbreaking instead of frustrating. And Vihaan’s groveling? Perfection. I’ll be talking about it for the next decade.

You NEED to meet Vihaan and Vera. Please. I’m begging. I could go on and on about them, and I probably will, because this book owns me now.

Before I begin I want to thank the author, Riya Iyer, for giving me this ARC.

This was very cute but so toxic. Please don't get me wrong, I love a second chance story. I think the problem, for me, here is that this is just a bit too toxic for me. I liked the cute and thoughtful moments. I just think that they just didn't know the difference between love and lust.

DNF - 30%

Riya’s last two books concentrated less on spice and more on storytelling. This one was opposite of the previous books in the series. I hate Vihaan, I hate him since the beginning of this book and am a little sad because he was a likeable side character in the previous one. I liked Vera because she seemed like a strong character but then lust made her weak.
The past was boring and could’ve been skipped tbh.

ARC REVIEW : & Then They Loved by @authorriyai

The book has enemies-to-lovers & office romance as main tropes.

Vera was a standout strong, relatable, and easy to root for. Her relation with her Nanu was really sweet.

Vihaan had his frustrating moments, but he had his own shares of past, tho he was unapologetically claiming Vera even after.

I liked how some issues were dealt. Vira should have definitely report his chats with HR! Kidding!

🗓️ & Then They Loved releases February 28th!

"She'd called him charming once with a look on her face that told him that she'd found him anything but that. He'd retaliated by addressing her as 'Princess' a nickname that has stuck since.'

& Then They Loved is a second chance romance with the combination of enemies-to-lovers and office romance where they also share a past. The book is full of banters, snarky comments, angst, the rollercoaster of love & emotions, the redemption and everything you look for in a perfect enemies to lovers read. I have not read the previous two book in the series and I really am wondering why did I not, especially after the characters cameo from the previous book I will surely be reading it very soon.

Plot

Fourteen years ago, Vihaan and Vera were inseparable. They were rivals who turned into lovers, but it came to a end, and then they turned into enemies. As soon as these two see each other again for the first time in 14 years, it is like their hatred knows no bounds. Now the thing is that Veera has to work under Vihaan as he is her new boss, Vihaan wants Veera to quit and Veera will throw every mean comment his way to make him regret his entire life decisions, But as they are forced to work together time and again, they are also realizing that their memories of their perceived personalities of one another from the last time they saw each other might not be what it seems.

"She hated him, it was true. But she hated far more that one look from him made her feel seventeen again."

Veera Talwar

Vera was an incredible character—strong, relatable, and easy to root for. She is the kind of FMC I love—self-respecting, and doesn’t take crap from anyone. She wasn’t about to forgive Vihaan easily (as she shouldn’t), and I loved how she knew her worth. Her comebacks and her snarky comments were legit funny and felt so good while reading. The way she made Vihaan speechless and the way she stood her ground at every point....exactly the kind of FMC I adore. She takes care of her nanu and her love for him made me wish having a bonding like that with my own nanu but let's forget about it. She was so closed off and had build such big walls around herself never letting anyone in, there were points I found her so relatable and just wanted to give her a big hug.

"She was exquisite, a dream he'd never dared to dream, and he would sign away every last breath to ensure this dream remained unbroken."

Vihan Oberoi

You will hate him when you read the first chapter, then you will think he is total jerk when you will read about his thoughts on Veera in his pov, AND THEN YOU WILL SWOON OVER HIM. Vihaan is a charming lover boy who also happens to be a TOTAL SIMP FOR VEERA. That man would literally worship the ground she walks on. He’s frustrating, and totally irresistible. The way he GROVELS had me grinning so hard. The man GROVELS and not just a “sorry, babe” grovel—a full-on, heartfelt, “I messed up, let me prove my love” redemption arc. Reading his pov made me go from wanting to kill him to wanting a man like him.

"Why do you love me? I've not made it easy for you then why?
"Has anyone in the history of lovers ever been able to answer that correctly?"

Veera & Vihaan

You know how they say there is a thin line between love and loathing? With Vihaan and Vera that line is razor thin and they trample ALL OVER IT....The chemistry? OFF. THE. CHARTS. Their banter? DAMN Their tension? COULD CUT IT WITH A KNIFE The spice? READ IT IN PRIVATE The grovelling? COULD THIS GET ANY BETTER. The way their relationship gradually developed from wanting to kill each other, to bearing with each other presence, to falling in love all over again. GIVE ME MORE OF THEM!!!!! Vera and Vihaan are not perfect by any means but that is what makes them so much better as characters, They both have flaws and learn to love each other IN SPITE of them.

The story has full of love, chemistry, drama and romance and I felt all kind of emotions I could while reading the book. The emotions that I went through this book was absolutely fantastic. So much , hate-love, sorrows, flirtatious, and many more. I loved the storyline of how two lovers fell apart due to misunderstandings and miscommunication but more than that the difference between two people and the world they live in. The best thing according to me was how the story was set in India! The cultural depth, the family dynamics, the little details—it all felt so authentic. This is a literary version of a Bollywood movie - complete with the romance through the ages, enemies fighting into lovers, class differences, miscommunication at the heart of plot twists, friends as family etc. There's a lot of drama - but it doesn't feel crowded. The story has a good pace so you are entertained and absorbed, but not overwhelmed.

Overall, if you love enemies to lovers, second chances, workplace tension, male lead on his knees groveling, lots of banter, *uhm*sexusal tension*uhm* boy obsessed, dirty talking MMCs who call the FMC “princess”,all the swoony romance and DESI DRAMA, this book is your next obsession.

"I will choose you. And I will wait until you choose me back...I will accept your anger, your disdain, and your need to hate me. And I will choose to love you every single day." - Vihaan Oberoi.

Rating: 1000/100 stars

A huge thank you to the author for giving me the chance to read an ARC of this book.🙏🏼

Vihaan and Vera have firmly secured a place in my heart💕, causing me to pull my hair in frustration🤯, stare at the ceiling questioning the entire male existence🤔, scan my surroundings nervously during ooho scenes😏, and giggle uncontrollably at their banter 🤭.

When I first met Vihaan, he presents himself as a complete j*rk, but as the story unfolds, he becomes one of the most compelling MMCs I've ever encountered.😍
Speaking of Vera, I’ve gone ahead and noted down all the colourful words she said! Her sassy comebacks and sharp wit were such a joy to read. She brings such a fire to the story, and her boldness is one of the things that makes her so unforgettable. Every time she got a little snarky, I couldn’t help but smile. Her character is layered with so much strength, yet vulnerability—and those clever, often humorous, lines of hers just made her even more relatable.

What really struck me was how the author managed to capture the teenage innocence and devotion in Vihaan's eyes, when often it is labelled as fickle. The evolution of their relationship from childhood enemies to lovers, then sworn enemies gaian, before finally reuniting in a beautiful second-chance romance.✨

One of the things I absolutely loved was how attuned he was to Vera, even when she wasn't around. How he knew her heart, even if she didn't. The way he couldn't help but think about her, how he unconsciously recalls her even while claiming to hate her.❤️

The characters themselves felt so human—flawed, messy, and real. It’s rare to see a book portray the complexities of relationships with such authenticity, especially the issues that people often avoid confronting. The big questions—the doubts, the fears, the insecurities—are all so thoughtfully woven in, making this book feel deeply personal.

Vihaan and Vera truly give off "made for each other" vibes. 🧿 His charm perfectly complements her resilience in a way that feels destined. The unexpected wedding chapter delivered a surprising plot twist. 🔥

Vera’s Nanu plays such a crucial role, too. His unwavering support, especially in helping Vera find her strength, was portrayed so delicately. His presence was a reminder of unconditional love and loyalty.

The novel beautifully explores the variety of nuances of Vihaan and Vera's relationship- from bitter rivalry and hatred, forced proximity, denial, and heated arguments, to the painful tension, that had me absolutely on edge.💖

If you're in the mood for a book that will make you laugh, cry, blush, and want to punch a wall at the same time—& Then They Loved is your perfect match. Grab it, read it, and get ready to fall in love (again) with love itself!💕

📖 & Then They Loved by Riya Iyer – A Rollercoaster of Love, Angst & Redemption! 💔🔥

You know when a book wrecks you in the best way possible? Yeah, this is that book. I felt everything—the heartbreak, the longing, the humor, the spice—OMG, it was perfect.

If you’re a sucker for:
💥 Second Chance Romance
🔥 Enemies to Lovers
💼 Office Romance
💔 Friends with Benefits turned Real Feelings
❤️ Desi Romance

Then stop scrolling and READ THIS BOOK.

✨ The Story:

Vihaan and Vera? They had history. Childhood rivals-turned-lovers-turned-enemies. When Vihaan takes over a new company, boom—they’re forced back into each other’s lives. They try to avoid each other, but the chemistry? Unmatched. What starts as a no-strings-attached deal (lol, as if that ever works) soon turns into something deeper… but their past still lingers. Can they truly move on?

🖤 Vihaan Oberoi – The Man Who Made Me SOB.

At first? A total jerk. The manwhore vibes, the accusations (calling Vera a gold digger?!), the arrogance? I wanted to throw my Kindle. But THEN I got into his POV, and oh my god, I fell HARD. This man LOVES deeply, and when he realizes what he’s done? The groveling is top-tier. Not just a weak “sorry”—Vihaan earns his second chance. And I ATE IT UP.

💖 Vera Talwar – A QUEEN.

Vera is the kind of FMC I love—strong, self-respecting, and doesn’t take crap from anyone. She wasn’t about to forgive Vihaan easily (as she shouldn’t), and I loved how she knew her worth. But when they finally let go of the past? MAGIC. I was screaming, crying, and kicking my feet.

🌶 The Spice? 4/5 🔥🔥🔥🔥

It’s got the tension, the slow burn, the jealous MMC, and the explosive chemistry. Trust me, you’ll be fanning yourself.

Final Thoughts?

If you love romance that breaks you, heals you, and makes you believe in love again—this book is IT. The angst, the emotions, the redemption arc? Absolute perfection. Don’t think. Just read.

✨ Rating: 5/5 ✨
📖 Tropes: Childhood Rivals, Enemies to Lovers, Office Romance, Marriage Trope, Friends with Benefits, Jealous MMC, No Cheating.

Now excuse me while I go reread all of Vihaan’s POV and cry again. 😭

Thank you Riya for an ARC of this book!

Anyone looking for a morally grey character? Bc only Vihaan could have us hating him at the start only to turn around and make us fall completely and utterly in love with him by the end. But with the dual timeline, we really got insight into how he became the man he was. It was a lot of having to prove that he was capable of more and feeling hurt when he felt written off. So could we understand his actions? Sure. Were they always justified? … We did say he was grey. 😅 But he did his damnedest to make up for his mistakes, fighting for the people he loved. Bc when he loves, platonic or romantic, he LOVES. With his WHOLE. DAMN. HEART. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a man who’s tough for the world but a golden retriever with his people? Bc that dichotomy? Sign. Me. Up.

And who could square up with Vihaan? May I present to you, Vera bc every jab Vihaan had to dish, she returned in equal measure. And our leading lady deserves extra love bc she has been through a lot. Life has never been easy on her and has given her no breaks. She took no shortcuts and had to sacrifice a lot for her family. Everything she achieved, she fucking EARNED. But this meant she didn’t just have walls up, she had an entire fortress protecting her heart. And Vihaan had to fight for every inch he got. But by the time those walls came down, we saw how the years had worn her down. So we *felt* her first breath of relief, knowing she was no longer alone.

These two together were 🔥. Whether they were fighting or *working out their frustrations.* 😏 Their journey was far from easy, but it was absolutely worth it.

CN: open-door romance, bullying, sexual harassment, physical violence, parental abandonment, Parkinson's (minor character), loss of parental figure, grief, implied physical relationship between minors (not detailed, fade to black), derogatory use of “whore”

Thanks to Riya Iyer for the ARC read!

I just finished this book and I need a cold shower. This was *fire*. As my first South Asian romance read, I loved the comfort and familiarity of the settings against the SPICY burn of the characters, which was definitely an interesting reading experience for me.

Vera and Vihaan. Enemies to lovers, twice over. Budding young love thwarted by miscommunication (and hormones) has a second chance when Vihaan becomes the CEO of Vera's company and she's forced to work with him, as opposed to "under him" as he flirts. The rest is just the passionate experience of them battling their way back to each other.

This is a literary version of a Bollywood movie - complete with the romance through the ages, enemies fighting into lovers, class differences, miscommunication at the heart of plot twists, filial loyalty and responsibilities, friends as family etc. There's a lot of drama - but it doesn't feel crowded. The story has a good pace so you are entertained and absorbed, but not overwhelmed.

Will say this again - there isn't enough appreciation for great writing in this genre and Riya's writing is incredible. She clearly has such talent with the written prose; her metaphors, descriptors, flow etc - it's all crucial ingredients for the winning recipe of how the story & plot come to life. It's such a beautiful read.

Special call out the banter, which is really humorous and great balance for the drama. It's just really SMART (and I'm such a sucker for intelligent flirting). It showcases Vera and Vihaan as worthy rivals and deserving partners. And then there's the resulting spice from their tension and failed resistance - *fans myself*

I can't wait to backtrack on this series ....

Vera Talwar’s sole focus is taking care of her grandfather. After receiving a promotion, she’s finally in a position to make it happen. But when the man she swore to never forgive, Vihaan Oberoi, returns to her life, old emotions—and a fierce attraction—resurface. She may hate him, but the undeniable chemistry between them proves otherwise.

Vihaan, a carefree media mogul, can’t seem to escape the fiery woman who haunts his thoughts. He swears never to let Vera control him again, but no matter how hard he tries, he can’t resist the pull she has on him. Although she acts like he’s the one who broke her heart, he knows the truth is different. Despite everything, he can’t shake the feeling that she’s still... his.

The pacing of this book is perfect—there’s always something happening. Just when you think you have the story figured out, another twist keeps you hooked. The steamy scenes? Hot and intense, taking the passion between them to another level. And the banter between Vera and Vihaan is pure gold—funny, fiery, and always engaging. The way the book balances humor, heart, and heat is what makes it such an unforgettable read.

What truly stood out to me was the emotional depth. The story explores forgiveness, self-discovery, and healing, while still delivering an entertaining and heartfelt romance. The author beautifully captures the messy, complicated nature of relationships—how they’re never perfect but are always worth fighting for. And of course, there are those swoon-worthy moments that make you fall in love with the characters all over again.

With witty dialogue, sizzling chemistry, and emotional moments that tug at your heart, And Then They Loved is a book that will keep you turning pages until the very end. If you’re looking for a romance that’s funny, emotional, and utterly swoon-worthy, this one is a must-read!

Ohhh my gosh really ....... this book is amazing! I can't tell in words how much I loved "& Then They Loved" by Riya Iyer. It gave me ALL the feels—heartache, anger, longing, and that sweet satisfaction of a love story that truly burns before it blooms.

First of all, Vihaan and Vera? Absolutely electric. Their enemies-to-lovers arc had me glued to every page. The tension, the angst, the simmering chemistry? Ugh, it was so good. Riya Iyer just knows how to write emotions that feel real and raw.

One of my favorite moments? That first meeting after 14 years! The way Vera freezes when she sees Vihaan, and his reaction—like he’s been hit by a freight train of the past. And let’s not forget that line:

“I hate you, Vihaan Oberoi.”

Chills. Literal chills.

And Vihaan? What a complicated man. He’s successful, powerful, and everything he once wanted to be, yet when Vera comes back into his life, it’s like his whole world shifts. He goes from being composed and in control to absolutely losing his mind over her presence. And Vera? She’s strong, fierce, and refuses to back down—especially when Vihaan tries to push her out of Ethos.

One of my absolute FAVORITE quotes:

“Do you really want to work under me, Ms. Talwar?”

"With you" she corrected in a hiss

The tension was SO thick, I had to take a break to breathe!

Also, can we talk about the past flashbacks? Those moments when Vihaan and Vera were teenagers, their bickering, their stolen glances, and THAT heart-wrenching betrayal? I was yelling at my book. It hurt so bad, but I LOVED IT.

And the ending? Let’s just say I had to close my eyes for a moment to process all the emotions. I won't spoil it, but it was EVERYTHING.

This book is a solid 5/5 for me. If you love enemies-to-lovers, second chances, and angsty slow burns, then YOU NEED TO READ THIS. Riya Iyer, you have my heart

When I say I devoured this book, I mean I was up way past my bedtime, completely hooked on the fiery tension, the laugh-out-loud banter in this book! This book is everything an enemies-to-lovers romance should be...messy, intense & incredibly satisfying

Vera & Vihaan – A Perfectly Chaotic Pair
Vera Talwar is the kind of FMC I absolutely adore. She’s fierce, independent & refuses to let anyone—especially Vihaan, walk all over her. She’s fighting for the one person who’s always loved her & nothing will stand in her way. But then he walks back into her life. Vihaan Oberoi!! the definition of a charming playboy, but beneath that exterior is a man who’s far more complicated than he lets on. Their past is messy, their present is electric & every encounter sparks with unspoken emotions, lingering heartbreak, undeniable chemistry

The Tension, The Banter, The Groveling!
One thing about this book? It delivers top-tier banter! Vera and Vihaan’s snarky back-and-forth had me grinning like an idiot Every interaction between them felt alive, filled with sharp words, stolen glances, that undeniable push and pull that makes enemies-to-lovers so addictive 🔥 And the groveling? Let’s just say Vihaan earns his second chance and it’s oh-so-worth it 💋

I loved how the story unfolded through a dual timeline. We see glimpses of their past—how they went from something real to a complete disaster. It’s not just about two people who bicker their way back together... it’s about trust, second chances & realizing that sometimes, love never really fades ❤️

❓️Should you read this book?
If you’re obsessed with:
✔️ Enemies-to-lovers
✔️ Workplace romance with all the tension
✔️ Strong-willed,independent fmc
✔️ Cocky,charming heroes with a vulnerable side
✔️ Witty banter that will have you cackling
then YES! you definitely should not miss this💫

This book??? PURE PERFECTION.
I started it thinking, okay, another enemies-to-lovers story, but ohhh no—this was different. Vihaan and Vera didn’t just dislike each other; they hated each other with their whole chest. And the way their sarcasm was so sharp it could kill? I was living for it. The tension? The banter? The absolute refusal to admit their feelings? Chef’s kiss.

Vihaan, our broody billionaire, buys a company without realizing that Vera, his teenage enemy turned ex turned “I still can’t stand you” coworker, works there. Fourteen years later, and the sparks are still there—except now, they burn even hotter. He sits in his office pretending she doesn’t exist while secretly watching her every move (like a liar), and Vera does her best to act like she doesn’t care (even though she totally does). And then... that moment. Vera gets locked in a storeroom, Vihaan finds out, and what happens next? Let’s just say I had to pause and take a deep breath.

They try to fight it, to pretend their feelings aren’t real, but the more they push each other away, the closer they get. And when they finally give in??? OH. MY. GOD. The way they fall into each other is everything. They go from enemies to something even messier before they figure it out, and I was there for every second of it.

But the moment that had me kicking my feet? Vihaan kneeling in front of her. Begging for her. And then—the marriage contract. When Vera gives him one and he casually suggests making it last 99 years??? SIR. PLEASE. Just say you’re obsessed with her and go.

This book didn’t break me—it made me feel everything. It’s full of tension, longing, laughter, and just the right amount of drama. And that ending??? It wasn’t just a happy ending; it was a happily ever after. And honestly? That’s exactly what Vihaan and Vera deserved. I’m completely in love.

This book was so damn good. This is a hate to love romance which revolves around Vihaan and Vera, theyare childhood friends to lovers to enemies to lovers again, so there was a time when Vera used to tutor Vihaan in childhood, and then they started to date, but due to some misunderstanding Vihaan broke up with Vera and the things got so fired up between them.
Later after 14 years when they met again in the company in which Vihaan had acquired the position of CEO and Vea was a employ a very hard-working and talented employee, which the company could not afford to lose. Now when they are working together things spices up between them and Vigaan and Veera couldn't control their emotions towards each other.
Once the misunderstandings got clear, and Vihan saw the real Vera. He felt so bad because of the way he behaved with her and decided to apologise, but Vera didn't forgive him

He had to fight for the forgiveness and he did. He was so humble and patient towards her. He took care of her nanaji also and was totally bound to ask for the forgiveness in any way possible. By seeing every efforts he made towards her, She decided to forgive him and let the past be in past and move on together, and that's how they finally loved each other.

The story has full of love, chemistry, drama and romance and I felt all kind of emotions I could while reading the book. I gave it 4/5 ⭐️definitely the book deserves it, and it deserves a lot of appreciation and the spice is so hot in the book that I gave it 5/5 🌶️ this is one of the Desi Romance that I will recommend to every reader who loves Desi Romance , marriage of convenience, spice, workplace romance, friends with benefits, childhood enemies, like this book has each and every trope you could imagine

DNF at 32%

To be honest, when I started reading it, I was thoroughly immersed in the story. Watching Vihaan and Vera as adolescents, and enemies, was so very entertaining, and I couldn’t find it in myself to put the book down. I LOVED it. At the back of my mind, I wondered “the enemies are really enemy-ing here, clashing so bad. I wonder how they’re gonna turn into lovers.”

Around 25%, I got a vague idea of where things were headed (how they probably turn into lovers). Decided to read a bit more just to see if I can actually make it through the read, but had to DNF at 32%. I’ll try saying this without disclosing any spoilers: I don’t think lust should be the key factor to the change. I understand that most of the enemies-to-lovers that we find, have lust, to some extent, working to bring the two people together. Perhaps that’s how things work in real life too. Perhaps that is a pretty normal way of people coming together as couples - fulfilling the needs of their body first, and their heart second. For me, however, it isn’t that way. Is it because I’m just 19 and inexperienced at all of this? Is it because I pay so much importance to the emotional side of relationships than the physical ones? I don’t know the answers to those yet, but having said that, I’m not saying I didn’t like this book. I do wish to give it a try in the future, perhaps a few years from now, when I’ve gotten more used to adulting.

If you love enemies to lovers, and banter, you’ll definitely love this book. The whole time, I could feel the tension between Vihaan and Vera. It’s very well-written, and even though I DNF-ed it due to personal reasons, I’d say you should give it a try if you’re used to what I mentioned above.

Some books have a way of pulling you in so deeply that you can’t stop thinking about them even after you’ve finished. And Then They Loved by Riya Iyar did exactly that for me! From the moment I started, I was completely hooked, unable to put it down. This book had everything—intense emotions, beautifully flawed characters, and a story that felt so real, it was like living through it myself.

The journey of the two main characters was just breathtaking. Their relationship took me through so many emotions—fondness, frustration, heartache, and ultimately, joy. The way their connection evolved felt natural and heartfelt, making me deeply invested in their story. The emotional depth of this book is something I rarely come across, and I absolutely loved how raw and authentic it all felt.

One thing that completely won me over was the redemption arc. I’m usually skeptical when characters are forgiven too quickly, but this book handled it so well! The lead made sure the other truly earned back the trust, and I appreciated every bit of that struggle. It made the emotional payoff even more satisfying.

Riya Iyar’s writing is simply beautiful. The storytelling is immersive, and every scene is so vividly crafted that I felt like I was right there with the characters. The emotions are so real, the tension so palpable, and the journey so unforgettable that I just couldn’t get enough.

If you love books that make you feel every emotion intensely, And Then They Loved is an absolute must-read. I can’t wait to dive into more of Riya Iyar’s work because this book has officially made me a fan!

This enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance is a rollercoaster of emotions, blending intense chemistry, heart-wrenching twists, and deeply satisfying character growth. From the very first page, Vihaan and Veera’s dynamic is electrifying—their sharp-witted banter and undeniable tension make their journey from adversaries to lovers all the more compelling. The office romance element adds another layer of complexity, seamlessly interwoven with a past that refuses to stay buried.

Vihaan is the definition of a devoted hero, a man who simps with such intensity that it’s impossible not to swoon. Every moment from his POV is a masterclass in yearning, making it clear that his love for Veera runs far deeper than words. And Veera? She is a force of nature—sharp-tongued, powerful, and impossible to ignore. Her unique insults and commanding presence make her one of the most memorable heroines in the genre.

The novel balances passion and emotion flawlessly. The spice is undeniably well-executed, but what truly stands out is the raw vulnerability beneath it all. The proposal scene is breathtaking, the twist leaves you reeling, and the reconciliation is written with such emotional depth that it lingers long after the final page. And then there’s the epilogue—a perfect, heart-melting conclusion that ties everything together beautifully.

This book is an experience—one that will leave you breathless, giggling at Vihaan’s devotion, fanning yourself from the tension, and wiping away tears from the sheer emotional impact. A must-read for lovers of angst, passion, and exquisitely written redemption arcs.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | A Masterclass in Miscommunication Done Right
Some books whisper their emotions, and some shout—this one sings in the most heart-wrenching, angst-laden melody.

Vihaan Oberoi and Vera Talwar’s story is a Bollywood-worthy symphony of second chances, sharp-edged banter, and tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. A hate-to-love, dual timeline, workplace romance with the kind of miscommunication that doesn’t frustrate—it wrecks you in the best way.

Vihaan, the charming, scandal-drenched media mogul with a past he keeps buried, is everything I love in a morally beige hero. And Vera? A black cat heroine whose rage is both her shield and her heartbreak—utterly, devastatingly unforgettable. Their history is woven through a past-and-present narrative that slowly unravels the layers of misunderstanding, betrayal, and oh-so-delicious longing. And the groveling? Chef’s kiss. 👏🏼

This book isn’t just about romance—it’s about how love, when mishandled, can turn into something just as powerful: resentment. And watching Vihaan and Vera untangle that mess was a journey.

For readers who crave:
💔 Childhood rivals to lovers, but make it devastating
🎬 Dramatic, Bollywood-level intensity
🏙 Forced proximity & workplace tension
🖤 A hero who learns that love isn’t just about wanting—it’s about proving

If Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon had you clutching your heart, this one will do the same. Angsty, addictive, and brimming with fireworks—this is the kind of second-chance romance that stays with you.

✨ Have you read a book where the miscommunication was done right?

If you’re looking for a romance novel that will grab your heart, squeeze it, break it, and then lovingly piece it back together, THIS IS IT! I have fallen head over heels in love with this book, and honestly, I don’t think I’ll recover anytime soon.

From the first page, I was completely hooked. The emotional rollercoaster this book put me through was unreal I laughed, I cried, I screamed, and at some points, I just had to pause and breathe. The chemistry between Vihaan and Vera? Explosive. Their journey from childhood rivals to lovers, to enemies, to something much deeper is chef’s kiss. This is the kind of enemies-to-lovers romance that makes you believe in fate and second chances.

Vera is a force to be reckoned with strong, independent, yet soft in ways that make her one of the best FMCs (female main characters) I’ve ever read. And Vihaan? Greenest flag alive (okay, maybe not so alive at times, but I stand by my words!). His complexity, flaws, and devotion make him an unforgettable character.

And let’s talk about the writing so well-paced, beautifully developed, and filled with tension that keeps you flipping pages like your life depends on it. The side characters, the storyline, the misunderstandings that don’t feel forced it’s all done perfectly. I usually hate the misunderstanding trope, but THIS book made me love it.

If you adore:
✨ Enemies-to-lovers
✨ Second-chance romance
✨ Friends-with-benefits gone wrong (or right?)
✨ Workplace tension
✨ Desi romance vibes

Then you NEED to read this book. It’s an emotional masterpiece, and I will defend Vihaan and Vera with my whole heart.
