I think the 'Yumiella is an idiot' trope is getting out of hand. Not bad, really. The plot does rely on a lot of people juggling the idiot ball between them, but it's amusing.
Overall this volume is fine, but it starts to introduce more character flaws into Yumiella that really undermine her character. I'll be going into some spoilers after this:
As established in the prior books, Yumiella is supposed to be a character that is extremely smart and discerning, but has some strange sensibilities, sometimes overlooks stuff and is a tsundere. In this volume, she is now established as having shockingly rigid thinking to the point that she isn't able to put even the most obvious of clues together until the very last second because of one misaligned piece of info, is increasingly excessively hostile in her relationship with Patrick (they don't feel like a couple, they feel more like a crappy father daughter pair who constantly fight) and she is now established to have such a short fuse it can't even be called comical that even slightly suggesting she isn't the strongest person in the world is enough to cause her to black out and attempt to destroy the world. These new character traits in turn feel extremely incompatible with her original character. This was the first volume where I noticed that everything I liked about her character started bleeding away. And it only gets worse from here.
As for the story itself, its fine. It spends much more time than I would've liked on useless bull sh!t, but the core of it was still engaging enough.
I still love this world and Yumiella remains one of my favourite villainesses and Patrick my favourite love interest but this arc wasn’t as interesting as the previous ones probably because it takes place in such a short time frame and have progressed that much closer to the wedding date. I feel aside from meeting Patrick’s brother and learning how Yumiella can grind/ level up after the event of previous volume. Things that could have really been covered in one of two chapters. That being said if you are picking up volume 4 you are invested in the world of Yumiella like me and for that it’s a solid volume.
So for those who read reviews yes it was a wonderful story. I quite enjoyed it. My only complaints is I think the author is too hard on himself.
I’m not gonna spoil anything but a lot happens tho it doesn’t seem like as much as the other books it might actually be more than the others. It was very entertaining. I hope you give it a shot.
Never ever say she's weak, or make her pretend to lose. Why? Read this volume and find out that maybe it wasn't such a good thing that Yumilella 2 took off her level cap.
