Rate this book
BOOK FOUR of the COALESCENCE OF THE FIVE: THEY COULDN’T BE TOGETHER AT THE START. ARE THEY DESTINED TO STAY APART UNTIL THE END?

She’s the heir to the throne, yet her heart is calling after something else… Princess Reida’s academic pursuit takes her on a journey to Incanta – a world inhabited by witches, wizards, dragon shifters, wraiths, and irascibles. While her mind is broadened and mystified just as she’d hoped, developing feelings for a certain wizard was not part of her plan, especially not when he is her professor. He’s no stranger to injustice, but the biggest one may be his undoing… Professor Theodore Ischyrós is ambitious and accomplished in a way few beings are. He keeps his past close at all times and has learned to mistrust and doubt almost everyone. The moment he laid eyes on her he knew he’d been struck by magic. The moment she began speaking he knew he was done for. He’s determined to keep professional lines clear until she graduated. But when that day comes, would she be available for him to pursue? She’s a princess – the heir to the lycan throne, and his best friend’s cousin. And things only get worse when the heir to Incanta’s throne seems to be after her hand as well. Will Theodore be able to convince Reida to choose him, or are they destined to stay behind professional lines forever, being within reach but never together?

When Stina is not writing, she can be found reading anything that piques her interest, accidentally buying books on accidental visits to bookstores despite the shelves of unread novels at home. Always a daydreamer, she often fantasizes about what could unravel if something that didn’t happen happened. She is also prone to buying stickers and washi tapes (by complete accident) and then wondering what to do with them.

With a goal of inspiring others and hoping they draw strength from her characters, she wishes to write in a way that makes everyone’s days a little brighter, that allows them to appreciate who they are and fall in love with the magic they add into the world.

Stina’s Pen delivers a delightful fantastical escape with “The Lycan Princess & the Lethal Potions Wiz.” It’s the fourth installment in her Coalescence of the Five series and blends intricate world-building with emotionally charged stakes, and pulls readers into a realm where destiny, identity, and power collide.

Set in the magical world of Incanta, the story follows Reida, a royal Lycan who seeks to prove herself outside of her family’s shadow. She does this by enrolling at Thavma University, a prestigious institution for magical studies. Her academic journey takes an unexpected turn when her wand selects the rare prolégo mushroom, binding her to a dangerous prophecy shared with two others. A wand’s choice defines the wielder’s role in Incanta. With her future tied to the guarded wizard Theo, Reida must conquer the challenges of magical study, personal ambition, and a looming destiny that could shape her life and the balance of power in Incanta. Will she be able to forge her own path, or is her fate already sealed?

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Incanta. Stina’s Pen has crafted a story brimming with intrigue, rich characters, and unexpected twists. The enchanted halls of Thavma University and the complex relationships between the characters engross readers in a world that is vibrant and alive.

Reida’s journey is compelling and relatable. Her determination to create cures for deadly poisons mirrors her struggle to overcome self-doubt and prove her worth beyond her royal lineage. She’s burdened by expectations but driven by compassion and intellect, making her a character readers can root for. Theo, the reserved and enigmatic wizard tied to Reida’s prophecy, is an intriguing counterpart. His quiet strength and vulnerability add emotional weight, especially as his guarded nature begins to soften in moments of trust and connection.

Especially appealing to me is the charm and levity that the whimsical details and lively secondary characters bring to the story. Hexena, Theo’s opinionated aunt, and Lámia, an enigmatic wraith, are standouts that will make you laugh, even if they don’t mean to. My favorite characters play a background role – sentient brooms with attitude! Other enchanted artifacts blur the lines between setting and character and ensure that moments of tension are complemented by humor and wonder.

The novel is also rich in the exploration of identity and belonging. Reida’s quest to heal others parallels her internal journey to find her place in a world shaped by political tensions and societal biases. At the same time, Theo navigates the weight of familial injustices and his own destiny, creating a nuanced relationship with Reida that balances humor, trust, and unspoken tension.

Perfect for fans of fantasy and character-driven stories, “The Lycan Princess & the Lethal Potions Wiz” is a magical adventure that leaves readers eager for the next chapter in the series.

The twist was as devastating as it was unexpected, but I had to keep reading and loved it. I love the strength, determination and spirit that the author brings to the women in this series. I love it!!!

I have been an avid fan of the Coalescence of Five Series of Stina’s Pen from the first book up to the third book. So when this series was released I bought it through an online reading app no questions asked. I read it carrying with me the same expectation that this book is going to be a page-turner, one that I could not put down.

It’s sad to say that that wasn’t the case this time. Although this book was beautifully written and packed with a lot of lessons in it, I find that there are numerous unnecessary chapters in this book. While I understand that the author wants us to see the growth and milestones of each character, including the supporting characters, it did not justify the number of unnecessary chapters in this book. The 2nd half of the book is when it became a page-turner for me. I almost dnf’d this book because of the dragging storyline.

What made me decide to continue the book was the need for me to know what will happen between Theo and Reida. Nevertheless, I would still wait for the next installment of the series, but hopefully it will not be a super slow burn this time.

This book brought in a whole new cast of characters as Reida and Ianne go to I guess an equivalent of post graduate school. There Reida meets Theo her Lethal Potions professor who you can tell from first meeting are going to have their happily ever after, but you no way can foresee the problems they’ll encounter to get there. The characters from the previous books do make appearances. While small bit parts, they are still important to the story and remind you why you loved them so much in the past 3 books. The story of Theo’s family is so sad but the loyalty and love between him and his “adopted” family is heart warming. As it takes place in Incanta, a magical world, you will come across different ways, animals & plants leading to some pretty touching and other times comical moments.

Final note, I loved the creative way the author dealt with some things in the magical world (spells, measurements, etc) to make things different but at the same time easy for the reader to figure out what’s going on. Can you figure it out? 😏

This series touches every genre and I’m living for it. It’s a several years ahead of the last book so we really get to see how much everyone has grown. This story has a lot of mystery and leaves you totally enthralled as you peace it all together. As a 22 year old I am able to relate to some of the problems Reida has because she just hasn’t lived it yet. Also Theo is the best fictional boyfriend ever. I’ve never swooned so hard for someone who doesn’t exist. The real world needs more people like him, and the whole friend group.

This is the fourth book by this author I've read and I absolutely loved it.
I loved the storyline, the world building and
the very different characters, especially the strong female ones. Now we know already four of five important people, but we don't know yet what they're important for. I'm eager to meet the mermaid at last.
I can't wait to read the next one.
