I thought this was another good book in the series. Once again I liked the main character and also the supporting cast. I thought location of the book was very well done. I thought the story flowed at pretty good pace for the most part. I thought the second half of the book went at a better pace. I did not guess who was the bad guy was and you will not either lol. I thought it was a pretty good story and the ending was not bad. I did not think it was as good as the first book in the series but that is not uncommon for me at least most first books are usally the best in the series. I enjoyed learning more about the rest of the secondary characters. I gave this book a 4.0 on the dot. I will read the next book in the series. I say go ahead and give this book a spin.
Bourg’s second offering in the Clint Wolf police procedural thriller has the killer using a compound bow to shoot razor-tipped arrows to murder his victims. Emotionally damaged Police Chief Clint tries to put the death of his wife and child behind him as he sorts through the twists and turns of the case. Enjoy!
I thoroughly enjoyed this well-constructed thriller until the final pages. Strong characters, good story line and the killer was well-hidden from view. That was the first problem - there was no way to work it out for yourself. You needed to be spoon fed the missing information that closed the case. The major gripe was about the thing that got me into the book in the first place - I was grabbed by Susan's story in the opening chapters and the possible outcome of an impending court case. When I reached the last page to find this wasn't to be revealed until I bought the next book, I felt cheated.
This is a great second book in the Clint Wolf Mystery trilogy. Betrayal, secrets, murder and intrigue will keep you enthralled. Your heart goes out to Clint as he continues to try to rebuild his life, support his officers and solve crimes, all at the same time. The characters personal and professional struggles seem real and the turns in the story are shockers. The narrator of the audiobook does an excellent job of bringing out the suspense, heartache and thrills in this story, drawing you in and making you feel their emotions. The surprises, struggles and turmoil in this story are excellent and I can’t wait for the next audiobook to come out.
Clint Wolfe, small town police chief, has multiple murders on his hands, each being killed by a red arrow. The Why is s tricky as The Who. Meanwhile Susan is in jeopardy from saving Clint’s life in an earlier murder. Highly recommend
Clint gets into the thick of it when a bow shooting serial killer takes their first victim. A recent relationship , and an employee who has designs on him( he's in denial ), further complicate his daily life. He's tough and focused, in spite of his personal woes. Hang on tight, this gets complicated.
Another AWESOME book by Bourg. Fast-paced and action-packed yet again. 4.5 stars and the ONLY reason it’s not 5 is because I felt like the end/confession seemed rushed and “fake” in the world of policing. But I won’t spoil anything. Left on another cliff-hanger for the next book. I like that Bourg’s stories are absolutely chronological and have to be in order even though they’re standalone stories.
( Format: audiobook ) "Simon Parker sends his regards." Superb second story in the Clint Wolf trilogy by author B.J.Bourg. After the killings of his wife and daughter, homicide detective Wolf had moved from the city to become Chief of police in a small rural town in Louisiana. Now, a couple of years later, he was established, well liked and respected by his colleagues and even had a new girlfriend, and a dog. But nightmares still haunted his sleep even though his family's killers were in jail awaiting trial. Also facing a possible indictment for killing the man who had a gun to Clint's head the previous year, was fellow police officer, Susan. Then a bizarre murder takes place in his town: a woman shot through the heart by an arrow. It was not to be the only such death ...
Well written with excellent characterisation, the characters come alive as they struggle with their personal demons whilst fully investigating the serial killings. All is meticulously charted as different possible suspects and motives are sorted and found wanting. A mystery to fully engrossed the reader as they, too, confront the various twists of the plot.
As in the first of the series, J.Scott Bennet reads to perfection, his pleasantly accented voice conjuring up the town and it's inhabitants, the pace matching the text and the meticulousness of the investigation, as well as further bringing to life each individual character. The expression, 'hand and glove' come to mind when thinking of story and narrator.
Although the second part of a trilogy, this book is entirely stand alone. Meet some interesting but very real people and enjoy an excellent quest for a serial killer which will keep the reader guessing to the tragic ending - highly recommended.
Book Two in the Clint Wolf series starts 15 months after the events ending book one but dealing with the aftermath. There are two storylines running here: the grand jury hearing I to the shooting that saved Clint’s life and a murderer killing people with arrows.
The grand jury proceedings are going along fine until the DA takes a sudden interest and it’s clear that he has a vendetta against Susan which no one can figure out. The arrow killings make no sense for a long time until after three victims (one is way bizarre) finally gets them a clue they need as to what they all have in common. But even after they are sure who the killer is they can’t find him.
There are once again several things that make no sense plus Clint’s girlfriend Chloe really gets on my last nerve. An additionally we are dealing with Clint’s alcohol self medicating to get to sleep at night and a functioning alcoholic as police chief just doesn’t give me a reason to care about the MC. This book was frustrating as by the end there are really only two characters I’m feeling any fondness for and one of them is a dog. I’ll read book three as it appears it will directly affect Susan, the only character I like now!
I really enjoy listening to Mr. Bennett's voice and is the reason for picking this book. He has this voice that is just right for story telling that keeps my attention throughout the book. - 5 stars
My first story from Mr. Bourg and I enjoyed following Clint Wolf and his team in his investigation to find the archer who is killing people and almost kills one of their own. He also deals with the grief that plagues his nights. I like Susan a lot and I wish he would pick her instead of Chloe who comes across as an insecure nag I wanted to smack a few times LOL Good crew of secondary characters. Well plotted and intense story, I could not figure out who the killer was and I couldn't believe who it was when revealed at the end. The ending is not a cliffhanger, but it almost left me with that feeling the way it ended. I know it is just setting it up for the next book, but I am left wondering and curious why is the district attorney going after Susan. - 4 stars
I really love this series and the narrator sounds just like I imagine Clint Wolf would sound if he was a real live person. This book did not disappoint. It has 2 things going on with it. First why is the DA gunning for Suzanne, and secondly an archery killer ! Think you know who the killer is? Guess again. I was surprised when I finally worked out whom it was. I love the small town aspect of these stories having grown up in the country so it really connects me further. A good author and a good narrator equals a cozy book to crawl into. Suzanne plays a bigger role in this story and it’s not what you think it is. That was a twist and a surprise for me. Gonna start book 3, yay I’m excited. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Oh, this is not a cozy mystery in that it’s fun to read; it’s real life realism. It’s got some violence that is very tolerable and a lot of mystery.
I thought there were a few interesting elements in this book. The killers choice of the bow and red arrows were different if not realistic. Tired of the sheriffs crutch of alcohol to get him to sleep and him able to keep it from his love interest. Are we all thought to live in the dark that this supposed intelligent beautiful officer didn’t think to ask a doc for something to help him sleep rather than a bottle of vodka nightly. I’m most annoyed at the fact that each book is just a tease to buy the next. This book has an irrational DA target a deputy of murder when killing a killer and potential killer of the Sheriff. And her being arrested at the end of this book. Also the killers of the Sheriffs wife and daughter are now being let out of prison. Doubt I’ll read another.

Just as good as the first book in the series 'But Not Forgotten'. There are two-and-a-bit plotlines this time - Susan is up before a grand jury after a killing in book one; someone is shooting people, seemingly at random, with a hunter's bow; the killers of Clint's wife and child are being released from prison and have sent a message to Clint that they are coming for him. Only the archery murders are solved, the rest carry over. Dexter Boudreaux has singlehandedly :) become Mayor of the town, Clint is trying to cut down on his bottle of vodka a night habit, Susan is distracted by the thought that she may be going to prison, and Chloe flits in and out of Clint's life. Only Achilles remains serene throughout! B. J. Bourg seems to have a severe case of 'cliffhangeritis' as this book, too, deliberately leaves several stories unfinished.
This book has a good storyline with multiple twists. However, I don't like many of the characters. I particularly don't like Chloe. She was fine at first, in the first book, but since they started dating, she grew tiresome. And the relationship parts of the book aren't very good.
Someone gets injured in a way that would have kept then out of work for quite some time, but they're working just days later. Not to mention how impared a person who drank a full bottle of vodka to sleep every night would be. Even in a short span, someone would have such bad health outcomes, that it wouldn't be feasible to continue operating as the chief of police.
I'm going to read the next book, but I can't see staying interested in these characters for the length of this series.
You will never see the ending coming in this second book in the Clint Wolf series. Clint leads a talented group of police officers in their sleepy little town of Michon Lou Louisiana. Clint is making progress getting over his losses of his wife and daughter, and he has a new love interest. Guilt and grief still hold him back though. Suddenly there is a bowhunter on the loose and animals are not his target. You will not forget this journey with Clint and his fellow officers as they try to figure out who is knocking off people in their area and why. Excellent narration by J. Scott Bennett. His voice is music to this listener's ears. I listened to this audiobook in the car and in the house doing chores. Could not put this one down.
The Clint Wolf series is new to me but I can already add this to my top 10 favorite series. I gave But Not Forgotten 4 stars, but did not leave a review. I am giving But Not Forgiven 5 stars.
The Clint Wolf series is an intriguing book centered on Clint Wolf picking up the pieces of his law enforcement career in a small town, Mechant Loup, in Louisiana. With his trusted Achilles by his side, Clint assembles family and friends in his coworkers. He has maintained his sharp detective's mind and SWAT skills. He is a well written character.
Both books have been suspenseful from start to end. There are stories going on, carried on through the books, so I suggest reading them in order.
This is the second in the Clint Wolf series by B.J. Bourg. These are written in a casual, easy-going way with interesting mysteries with several twists along the way. At the same time, there is always something else going on in the background complicating the lives of this small town police department in very rural Louisiana.
Someone is killing people with arrows. At first, the victims seem random and unconnected. It is only after a chance viewing of an old picture that the victims may have all served on the same jury. But, for what case? And, why go after the jury?
A good story but left with a cliff-hanger at the end concerning one of the deputies. I hadn't planned on reading three in a row, but ...
Clint - Searching for killer who shoots victims with a bow and arrow. Determined they were members of the jury which acquitted husband of raping his wife. Second trial, he was found guilty. Originally thought it was Gregg Daniels as he recently got released from jail. Until he and his 2 brothers were found killed in the same way. Then thought it was the victim who is now a mail person, Sandra Volson. Determined it was her son, Gregg's stepson who he also raped. Happens to be policeman, William Tucker; Susan being pursued by Grand Jury for killing the Judge and is arrested for murder. Chloe moved in with Clint Brothers involved in killing Clint's wife and daughter being released from jail.

Who is killing people with a bow and arrows? Has Geronimo returned from the dead for some kind of revenge? Whose DNA was found on the arrows? How many will die before Clint and his crew figure out who the killer is and where they are? These questions and more will be answered in the pages of this, the 2nd book in the best-selling Clint Wolf Mystery Series. The writing is outstanding, the characters are well developed and very believable. The storyline is interesting and kept my attention from the first word to the very last word. If you like mystery with a touch of romance then don't miss this one, you'll be sorry if you do. Highly recommended.
I am new to this author and this series. I love a good mystery with well developed characters. I have found both in The Clint Wolf novels so far. I love that Clint, Susan and the rest of the crew are more like family then coworkers. I absolutely adore Achilles and the bond between him and Clint. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked Chloe for Clint, but she is growing on me, for now. We shall see.
I liked the mystery in this book and was totally surprised by who turned out to be the killer. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens next.
After listening book one, I had to get this one! Let me sum this book up for you: Wow, just Wow! I was so shocked! I love this “Longmire” type story, and it’s even better when read by Scott Bennett. His Matthew McConaughey like southern accent brings Clint to life. This is another five boundless Star book; I can’t wait to get the next one!
Another great read love the way the story flow into each book and the Archer killings was a different approach keeps you guessing all the way through very compulsive read and and soo much action just think all is well then something else happens and back to suspense great page turner love the characters Cliff has soo much going on his life from past and present almost feel your part of the book the author brings us .
Fifteen months have passed and Chief Clint Wolf and his team investigate the death of a female who has been shot by an arrow. But this will not be the last verdict. Can they determine a motive and find the killer. Meanwhile detective Susan Wilson is being investigated by the grand jury for her part in a shooting 15 months ago. It would seem that D.A Bill Hedd is determined to indict her but why. An enjoyable and well-written mystery story
I’m thankful this was a fast, easy read, so I didn’t spend too much time on it. There are two decent storylines in this book. The first has an ending, which came out of left-field, but I was prepared to go back for a re-read to see what clues I might’ve missed. The second storyline? The author could’ve left it unresolved. Instead he takes a step beyond and pushes me, the reader, over a cliff.
Each book of this series has gotten more and more exciting! Clint is a very good character though he has issues from his past! He’s trying to move forward with his life. He’s Chief of police in a small town in Louisiana. He’s in a new relationship and things seem to be going well. I for one hope that it keeps going that way in the rest of the series. I loved this book. Now on to book 3 in the series!
At first, when I began the first book, I was put off by the first-person narrative style. But the story was so engaging and there was so much action that I soon finished the book.
I'm hooked. But Not Forgiven carries on with Clint's story in the same juggernaut style. I couldn't put the book down. "Just one more chapter!", I would say to myself as I read on and on. Now I'm about to download #3 (sigh!)
This was a very good second book in the series.Clint goes through a lot in his short time as Merchant Loop police chief. This latest case is almost as good as the first, but still leaves you wanting more. Again, J. Scott Bennett is a wonderful narrator.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”
This was a great book. I thought the idea of using an archer was interesting. This book really keeps the reader hooked and engaged throughout. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery. This is shaping up to be a great series. I listened to the audiobook narrated by J. Scott Bennett, and he is one of my favorite narrators. He really brings the characters to life.
The first real mystery series I read was Longmire and I loved it. I've read several other authors and series since then and none of them hold a candle to this one. This one has likable and believable characters and is just a well written story that kept me hooked until the end . I look forward to the next book.
