OMG do I love me some DumbRunner! Lord knows how many times my husband and I have sent each other Dumb Runner comics. I was very excited to hear there was a book, and even scored myself a signed copy! The book appears self-published, based on the fact that he didn't leave a larger margin in the middle of the book, so the comics don't appear centered on the page. But, frankly, that homemade feel is right on brand for Remy's rotoscopesque art. The comics themselves are pure gold, though of course very, very niche. Would I have understood, let alone chuckled at, any of these jokes just a few years ago? No. Not a chance. Now that I'm a semi-regular but barely-competent runner who's entered a bunch of races and learned words like "Goo" and "Brooks?" Yes, they're hilariously self-aware. But the unexpected bonus here was commentary from Remy at the bottom of every single cartoon. Plus an intro, and a pretty dang funny back cover (where we are invited to write our own blurbs of praise.) This book was fantastic, and I highly recommend it as a gift for any dumb runner in your life.
